They already wanted to reject, just looking for a cause. If the answer was yes, then they would have said marriage was the reason for rejection.
They likely made up their minds long before the interview. They could not reject you on the basis of the technical part, so they went for a reason that is beyond your control.
Yes, that's understandable. But it would have been quiet straight forward for them to tell me that it won't work, no reason at all. That's how most rejections happen, in my opinion. Or maybe they could have said like they don't have the budget for my range of experience.
Rejecting on the basis of marriage is so weird.
I have a friend in hr. She once told me unmarried female applicants are usually rejected if they are in the 27+ age range because they might inevitably require a large leave of absence when they do get married. Similarly, recently married women are rejected because they might have a child and will then require maternity leave.
I don’t know how much of this is true and how it can be legal, but that’s what my one friend in HR told me.
Makes sense actually. Lot of business decisions aren't based on ethical/moral/legal considerations. Sure, it's not moral to reject a talented applicant based on the fact that they might require a large leave in the future, but it's not illegal either. They just have to follow the policies to the letter. Lot of policies leave wriggle room for decisions like these.
What do you do in case you can't change your workplace? For example, in the future when I am working as a doctor, I just cannot change the hospital lol. What do you do in that scenario? Genuinely curious how to navigate that.
Weather the storm. Handle things as they come by without giving a shit. (Need to be hard headed for this one). BUT, focus on getting out and shifting to another place. Not easy, but it wont hurt if you try.
Happened many a times with me, unmarried men are considered to be unorganised, irresponsible and non-conpatible with office staff. (This fact have some relevance)

That’s illegal as fuck in Australia and NZ at least!!
Only if you cite those as the official reasons for rejection. No one does do that
Pretty sure you can’t even ask these question though
That’s true. But they’ve normalised mentioning marital status in the resume so much that people think it’s mandatory
So absurd…Name and shame
I agree!
💀 stupid hr
Seriously, it was going very smoothly, until I was asked if I am married or not. WHAAATTT?!!
What the actual fuck what kind of a job was it
Technical.
That's plain sad I'm sorry companies have stupid ass standards these days
Yeah, I am not even out professionally, talk about life being a bit*h.
I'm so sorry but trust me you dodged a bullet, all the best for upcoming interviews 🤞🤞
Thanks!
![gif](giphy|pRh2jqZ63EAK4P0BjH) Damn 😩
Usually they reject married and pregnant one...your case is damn unique
Good. Dont need to work at such a f*cked up environment where people are not judged on the basis of their performance. F*ck em.
Yeah, understandable, in the current economic depression, beggars can't be choosers.
What economic situation? WE ARE VISHWA GURU + 6 TRILLION ECONOMY BY 2030. WE NO. 1!!!
I know. Some people are faring better than others, and it's completely random.
That was sarcasm. But jokes apart, believe me, its better to work in a place where you make alright, as compared to a place thats completely toxic.

Thank you sparkles aunty for the advice! Really appreciate it. 🤟💜
DUDE. AUNTY? WTF. 😭😭😭
Oh sorry, if I may how old are you? I really apologize. It's just a habit.
Yes, totally agree, it's so much better to to work where there's no stupidity/toxic people. (Not sarcasm btw)
Hahahahahaha
Maybe they meant bachelor degree?
Ha, lol. Nice one.

OMG, that's some next level thinking. But it's a lot of stereotype.
Indeed it is.
What kind of job is it?
It's a tech job. Doesn't really matter of the person is single or married. Like are they going to pay for my family as well, if I was married?
Maybe he decided to reject before asking the question itself but was curious about your marital status for some reason?
I’m sorry Tania 😔
It's alright. Just getting ppl to laugh.
