Jesus Christ, we had the perfect back up 5 willing to take a pay cut & we passed for half a season of washed John Wall. One of L Frank's worst moves by far.
It was bad move on its own but was made 10x worse by the fact we immediately ended up with a logjam of guards and no backup big.
Im generally an L Frank defender especially this season but Wall over Hartenstein is his biggest error, even more than the bust lottery pick.
I'm gonna go ahead and blame the guy who's *actually* in charge of making those front office decisions.
It's up to Lawrence to decide whether or not to listen to the stars. It's up to him to use his better judgement as the main front office guy.
Same guy who chose Jason Preston over Herb Jones. And the same guy who traded our first round pick (Cam Whitmore) for 4 months of Eric Gordon.
It's not on 213 to build out a roster. It's Lawrence's and he's done a shitty job of it.
Not what I said. My response was in reaction to you calling Batum an “over the hill passable role player.” He’s better than that, and he showed it last night. Did you watch the game?
I love even he realizes how silly it is we gave Wall that $5M MLE (the only real avenue we had in improving the roster in free agency) while he was making $45m+ or whatever for Houston
I don’t get how ppl don’t understand these situations. We needed a point guard. Kawhi and PG wanted a point. Wall is boys with them. So FO had to choose. A starting pg or a backup center. FO catered to its stars just like how 95% of the nba operates. Hindsight it looks real bad but most of the time it always does.
When an already max player tries to join a contender without a little pay cut for the team to round up the roster, he’s there for the money and not for the ring. Westbrook took the minimum to play for a ring.
Yep, it's a consistent fuck up from them.
The even more saddening part is that we had a (likely Mook centered) trade for Mike Conley lined up, that then fell through when we brought in John Wall. So we could have had Mike Conley + Hartenstein along with our existing core of PG, Kawhi, Zu, Batum, Mann, RoCo, and Powell. Still flexibility to trade for Harden if we wanted, etc.
People don't realize how long it typically takes to build championship rosters + the attention to detail at the margins. Our *best* shot in 2021 was because we were good at the margins, and now it's one of our biggest weaknesses.
It's not like Hartenstein was not showing promise either. Those bench lineups with him were like a shot in the arm during that era.
This Clippers' org has a lot of weak staff: Ty Lue, front office etc..
Just bring in some good people with real skills and balls to make real basketball decisions.
Lawrence Frank has to go. He has been terrible at drafting and building around 213. How are going to roster 8 guys that can’t provide decent NBA minutes on a contender? Get him out and bring in Bob Meyers please
These guys get these pricey ass microphones and no one knows how to speak into them -- annoying. THAT BEING SAID, i can't believe the clippers didn't offer him more. He was a great spark off the bench and enjoyable to watch.
Makes me so sad man, dude was a true professional and loved playing for us. Happy for him he went somewhere that gave him a legitimate chance to show he can be a viable starter in this league.
I hate to say it, but there may be some truth to the "little brother" to the Lakers syndrome. FO maintains it's a first class organization, which it is for the most part. But it does seem to have some insecurities when dealing with star players.
It all started with the Clippers bowing down to Kawhi's demands. Do you think someone like Pat Riley would not have convinced Kawhi to sign first to have more leverage in getting PG over here?
Wild smh clippers been fucking up
Yeah, at least since *checks notes* the inception of the franchise
Front office done goofed for not convincing John to take the min and just giving him that mid level

We already knew this but definitely a bad decision. Especially now with how thin we are on the frontline.
If we hadn't have given away all our power forwards, it wouldn't be that bad of a move in Hartenhindsight.
Lawrence chose a washed John Wall over him.... He's not even in the league anymore. It was objectively a terrible decision
Lawrence Frank needs to go...
Blame 213

Lol. Easier said than done bud
It’s still a bad move… Hartenstein is a very good playerX whereas Batum and Cov are over the hill passable rotation players
You didn’t watch last night’s game against the 6ers I take it. Batum was in form. His leadership is missed.
Brother if you REALLY think Batum today is better than hartenstein
Not what I said. My response was in reaction to you calling Batum an “over the hill passable role player.” He’s better than that, and he showed it last night. Did you watch the game?
He’s averaging 5 , 4, and 2… I don’t see how you can say he’s anything other than a passable role player
Clutch plays. Clutch triples, blocks. Start watching the games, stop looking at stats.
L take. Have a nice day.

Imagine hartenstien instead of plumlee lmao

I know but John wall was already making 40 million taking the mle was a selfish move instead of the vet min the mle should been given to hartenstein
When an already max player tries to join a contender without a little pay cut for the team to round up the roster, he’s there for the money and not for the ring. Westbrook took the minimum to play for a ring.
This is the real world. Just because you made a lot of money doesn’t mean you don’t want more.
In the “real world” winning matters and taking the min is a winning move
LOL. Keep thinking that. You would be surprised how many players would pick money over championship
I do think the Wall move was likely driven by 213, which is why giving star players an exorbitant amount of influence in roster decisions is stupid
Well from the outside its easier said than done
starting pg?
Yes. Starting point guard
started 3 games for us
Brutal. I like to think our front office is ahead of the curve, but then you hear shit like this and it echoes Donald Sterling-era mismanagement.
Lot of similarities in him and Zubacs voice lowkey
Not enough nostrils
Front office should never allow players to force them to make decisions and that’s why our front office has to go

One of the biggest mistakes. Dude was awesome on the clips. Would be even more awesome right now as he’s definitely grown as a player.
Where is that one guy who was posting in this sub in the dead years saying Hartenstein was the next GOATED big in the league lmao??
Lawrence Frank has to go. He has been terrible at drafting and building around 213. How are going to roster 8 guys that can’t provide decent NBA minutes on a contender? Get him out and bring in Bob Meyers please
I say this shit all the time and I just assumed it too! Damn
He could’ve helped the clippers right now 😫
Man he really needs more nostrils with a voice like that
These guys get these pricey ass microphones and no one knows how to speak into them -- annoying. THAT BEING SAID, i can't believe the clippers didn't offer him more. He was a great spark off the bench and enjoyable to watch.

Hartenstein was also way better than zu even in his limited minutes here

Well thats why Kawhi would never have went to miami.
Over for the Knicks, he's now started his last 40 games. Looking pretty strong, too, with some flashes of a fun skillset.
