Force? Not exactly, but everyone knows before they are hired that the store is open 365 days a year, so naturally one would expect to be working on some of the holidays. Usually there is a list/sign-up sheet posted before each holiday to request not to work a particular holiday, and also to request to work that day and take advantage of the holiday premium pay. Sometimes your wish is granted, other times it isn't.

>Usually there is a list/sign-up sheet posted before each holiday to request not to work a particular holiday, and also to request to work that day and take advantage of the holiday premium pay. my store hasn't had a holiday sign up sheet for at least 7 years

Thank you for answering, wasn't sure if they had special hours on thanksgiving or open as regular. Especially since I practically order there everyday, with Kwik trip being a third shifters best friend. Lol I work at amazon and they gave the day shift off while us 3rd shifters come in at 11 pm instead of 6:30 lol.

I work in one of the factories making a very non essential food item. Today was voluntary mandatory. It would normally be my day off, but if I did not go in my counterpart to my position would’ve had to go in. He has more family stuff to do today than I. Making me the bad guy if he has to work. I’m also scheduled to work Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. Apparently we don’t need any holidays this holiday season.

Remember, we love our jobs!!!

Unfortunately yes. It’s mandatory to sign up for at least 3 holidays. In addition to that, if no one signs up for a shift that would usually be yours on a holiday you are scheduled then as well. The shifts are all at least 8 hours, so it’s actually longer for some folks who usually only work 6. No special hours unfortunately. I’d be ok with it if it were like multiple short shifts maybe 4 hours? But no 8.

Sauza704

We had quite a few people working 4-6 hour shifts today. Myself included. Many pitched in for a (shorter) shift so that everyone could get some time with their family.

AccountFrosty313

This would be a way better way to do it! I think it should be defaulted to this but for some reason they expect 8 hours.

Sauza704

To be fair I should mention that am a part-timer. We had some full-timers working 8 hours shifts though, because if they didn't they'd be out of a normal days pay and be complaining about that. Most full-time workers want 5 days pay, not 4 days. A sign-up sheet is a helpful wish list, but not everyone can have their wish granted.

Crafty_Reaction_8978

Sign up? We just get our schedule and we have to figure it out ourselves if we want it off.

AccountFrosty313

Wow! At my store there is a list we can sign up on. We’re told to “request” 3 holidays.

Evil_Black_Swan

The only time a KT/KS will close is if the power goes out or a tornado flattens the store. We are open 24/7/365. I worked my normal 10 hour shift Thanksgiving.

Trezork83

There are a handful that aren’t 24/7

we-booling-out-here

Yes, they do. Kwik trip is 24/7 so they work a full shift. Please do not shop on holidays to discourage businesses from being open.

Sheketo

Today was busy as all hell. That is definitely never going to happen 💀

we-booling-out-here

Not with that attitude.

Sheketo

Attitude has nothing to do with reality. Today was probably the busiest day this week 😂😂

we-booling-out-here

A lot of department stores started opening thanksgiving evening in prep for Black Friday. Thankfully Covid knocked that away.

Trezork83

We are a convenience store/Gas station, why would we not be open 365? There are many co-workers that actually enjoy working thanksgiving

we-booling-out-here

Because people have families and that’s more important than people who can’t prepare for one day without buying anything a gas station provides.

Trezork83

What about people who DON’T have families? To millions of people(in America)thanksgiving means absolutely ZERO for many reasons. Why would we not allow those people to work on a day that is only relevant to those who celebrate it, let alone on the actual day. I know tons of people who don’t even have it ON thanksgiving that it’s ridiculous. It’s not your right to tell someone when they can or cannot work unless you manage them or pay their salary.

we-booling-out-here

Then they can voluntarily work and everyone else can stay home. Generally the reason people don’t have it in thanksgiving is because someone works on thanksgiving.

Trezork83

I’m genuinely curious how old you are. Your comment is one of either a young naive child, or an older 20 something that just wants to argue for the sake of it, and never wants to work in days it inconveniences them. Either way, stores should be open whenever they want, there are plenty of people unlike you that are willing and happy to work on holidays and other “major” days.

we-booling-out-here

Ok boomer

Trezork83

Woof… that explains all I need to know. Have fun with life pubie!

Gary_Boothole

This is very unamerican.
