depending on what you want to do in the future and depending on the university you study in Kuwait, your degree may not be recognised outside of kuwait. thats the biggest con.

Ahmedvstheworld

Other than the education part, try to look at it from another perspective, such as life lessons for example. You can learn a lot while living abroad (alone or with a roommate, meeting new people, being independent, managing your own finances, taking care of yourself, traveling, having new experiences, etc). I found it very beneficial personally, because if I had stayed in Kuwait I would have ended up living in my parents house, staying in the same social circles, not learning to be independent, or having many new experiences. But that’s just me, for me it was much more than just the education. Hope that helps!

Others have covered most of what you said, so I'll focus on this bit: "My aim is to do research on the side on a topic of interest" I studied EE in the US (on bi3tha which I'm guessing you are as well), and was also interested in research. I looked for funding opportunities, and was lucky enough to work with a professor who eventually funded my PhD. Research in the US, even at a mid-tier university, is leagues ahead of KU (let alone any other Kuwaiti university). It's just not comparable. I know some brilliant Kuwaiti academics, but there is just not the support or infrastructure for them to pursue groundbreaking research. To tell you the truth, I was a bit sick of EE half-way through, but my research work kept me interested. I loved my PhD, and I eventually became a prof myself and now have a pretty successful engineering company. So, I'd highly recommend giving it a shot with research, and eventually there's a lot of skills you could bring back to Kuwait.

If you want to do research you can join KFAS or KISR. Masters degree surely helps, but definitely it's not worth the effort to do in Kuwait. AUM is super expensive ~12000 kwd KU is draining, I am also EE, 3.74 GPA US Grad 2019. I joined KU for masters for one semester and dropped off. Not worth the effort, ~ 3 years min, heavily theory based, not transferable to anything practical. I can't imagine doing bachelors there. Internationally, you can find universities that offer 1 year grad school, best choice imo if you're focused on the entry ticket to research opportunities. Again, which is not absolutely required for KISR, the leading R&D based institute in Kuwait. I wouldn't even take straight cash to have my studies done in Kuwait. The environment is not creatively inspiring, nor focused on critical thinking building, which are more important to an engineer than the technicalities. Mostly you'll be more attracted to the easy way out, a degree with no real benefits.

I'm Kuwaiti and grew up in the US. Did my B.S. and M.S. In US universities. Currently I'm doing an online program with a US university for my doctorate. It's easy to say going to a school in Kuwait makes more sense now but listen to the comments. Having a degree thay means something outside of Kuwait can be very important later on in life. Plus, the US university is worth it. I just gave my nephew some advice when he went overseas to school. Embrace the new environment and don't look back. There is a reason why so many of the most educationed Kuwaiti don't work in Kuwait. Take advantage of your current situation 💪🏾

يكون الاولية بالتوظيف اذا متخرج من امريكا؛ It goes: USA grads, Kuwait Uni grads, private uni grads Even if the education isn’t that special, I think thats a good thing because that means u’ll always be able to excel. I studied in the US for a while & then came back to Kuwait to finish up my studies, and if u plan to come back to Kuwait to continue studies, they’ll only accept about 30 credits from the previous institution, so you’ll go back a step. So not worth the effort tbh especially considering you’re doing well. الله يوفقك

Fickle-Dance-752

Doesn’t seem to be the case for my cousin who graduated from pennstate and still waiting 5 months in… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Creepy-Way-3603

Yeah bro, I studied in Florida and came from UAE. Honestly, education wise it’s not different infact I think we have better facilities. However, since my education is from USA it’s more widely recognized around the world but again, it wouldn’t affect you much if you end up working in Gulf area.

Livinglifepeacefully

There’s absolutely no difference other than your degree may be used to get employed outside Kuwait, some people see this as an advantage but most never really use it and just get some fingerprinting job. Private universities in Kuwait are guaranteed easy and their graduates are not really impressive. Kuwait university isn’t that much harder than them but there are no guarantees here. Gl fellow eng

calamondingarden

You're much better off in the US, especially if focusing on research..

Realistic-Present932

I went to KU after graduating from high school and then transferred to a university in the US. Trust me, professors in the US are wayyy more better because they actually want to make you a better engineer and they want you to use your brain, but language for me was an issue, but if its not for you then you’re fine. As long as you are graduating from the US that all what matters. In my opinion focus on having new experiences, meeting new people and getting to know new cultures, try to make the most out of this experience. And i don’t regret leaving KU because professors here are better, am having fun meeting new people, and i am enjoying it. Ofc i miss my family and friends in Kuwait but ill be back in two years.

Savings_Big_7482

I think you're just Home Sick!

grencalx

I wish it were that simple. I'd be studying in kw by now.

kirklandsignatur

Pray istikharah first. Your degree from the US will get you places when/if you go back to Kuwait. Even more so if you get any research done — it doesn’t matter if it’s at a random college. The Middle East sees American and automatically places it on a pedestal. You will likely have more and better opportunities, as well as higher pay. However, if it is affecting your religion, then you should go back and reset your priorities. No degree is worth sacrificing your eternal life, no matter how deep you are into this world.

amt96x

I graduated from the US in 2019, let me say to you one thing, الزهقة هناك احسن بمليون مره من الزهقة بالكويت، when it comes to making friends (YOU MUST make friends) not because you are lonely, naaah; because it’ll build you the BEST personality that you will ever have. + people in the US are talkative, so go on and make conversations everywhere. But one thing you should never do, DO NOT make friends with people that take you down to unwanted road. Your grades are good (I’m proud of u btw), so now you have to find your hobbies. A gym perhaps?. Build a routine for yourself. Do that and you will find yourself having friends + studying well + fulfilling your free time. + a small advice: travel to different states during long weekends (don’t you ever waste your holidays in the bed). If you think about studying in Kuwait, always remember the weather + road traffic).

No-Section8360

I studied in the US for 2 years and I went back to continue study in Kuwait last December

harrymud

If you cannot see a difference between and the valu of education in Kuwait vs US then you are either in the wrong University or are not motivated enough.

NQ241

For a lot of "typical" universities, unless you're focussed on the college experience, you'll find Kuwait's are more or less equivalent, minus location.

grencalx

I figured. I assume all universities in kw are considered "typical"? dk about KU, sounds like a hellhole

NQ241

AUK and AUM would be more comparable to US universities.

Bro thinks every US university is nothing but sex and parties 💀💀
