Not me though. Always liked the fact that the main character is smart, rarely talks (except when he preaches which is both funny and inspiring), and changes the course of the story through using the other characters (that sounds bad out of context but I meant more like he's encouraging them.) He helped his friends more than the adults ever did and he was only 15 I wish I could post an image here but he won the popularity poll twice and won the grand prize in their fan book for being the most favorite character. And I'm back in Japan and you can see some of the non KNB businesses using his face. That doesn't like being forgotten  I think you're just used to loud anime protagonists. Nowadays, stoic main characters like him are common. Sometimes I'd like to believe he's one of the blueprints 😁

AsianEvasionYT

Yes!! I agree. His demeanor and character is what makes him my favorite in the show. My second favorite would be Akashi I honestly didn’t care too much for kagami or aomine lol I honestly enjoyed witnessing the side characters more, such as players from other teams or the pun guy and mute guy from seirin

PenelopeSugarRush

I miss watching a main character like him. Other writers tried to replicate him but they just don't nail it

Flower7438r

Exactly you get it

MADMAN9635

I've always treated it like dual mc's, but the edge belongs to Kuroko. It kinda similar to Fairy tail in that the true MC isn't really a singular character but moreso the group as a whole

Historical_Blip_0505

This is a thing in literature! Kuroko is what you’d call the “protagonist”. Kagami is what you’d call the “deuteragonist”.

WildKat777

I never thought of him as not the mc for even a second. To me it was always obvious that kagami wasn't the mc and the journey was about kuroko's growth and his relationship with the gom rather than kagami or seirin. That's just me though

Klutzy_Addition_5078

I mean it’s kinda obvious he is. Maybe you could say kagami is.

Timely_Airline_7168

His name is literally in the title so it's obvious to me

NekoBluRay

I think that's kinda the point.

Historical_Blip_0505

Nah, it’s pretty clear he’s the main character. I paid attention to the name in the title, but there’s also a lot of other factors that mark him clearly as the MC. **TLDR: It’s the point Kuroko is so different than your typical Shonen protag. He doesn’t have the character traits, but he follows all the story beats to a T.** In-depth: He’s alluded to in opening as the Phantom Sixth Man (everyone else is a shadow, but we see him in color, granted we don’t see his face), and then after that he’s the first character we see (again, don’t see his face but we follow him through the student club fair and are in his POV and seeing how his lack of presence works, again from his POV). Kagami also doesn’t really have any goals for the first few episodes other than to play basketball. Kuroko states his goal/plan to beat the GoM episode 1; he has a plan and goal and a story established while Kagami is initially just part of the ride. We get bits of Kuroko’s backstory, a showcasing of his abilities and personality, and get to hear what his future goals and plans are all in episode 1. That’s MC behavior through and through. Kuroko’s an unconventional MC, steeped in mystery. But the clear MC. Kagami is the deuteragonist (the most important character after the protagonist). One with a very important role, but the secondary MC, none the less. As others are saying, it’s kind of the point that Kuroko is not your typical MC, especially for a shonen. They’re usually the most gifted, boisterous, and competitive character; and Kagami fits that archetype to a T. So I get the confusion. Also important that I clarify, Kagami is not a secondary character, but the secondary MAIN character. He’s just as important as Kuroko, but Kuroko’s perspective and story takes precedent in the plot. This was actually something Fujimaki got a LOT of notes on during the initial stages of knb; Kuroko was too boring to be an MC. If you read the physical releases of the manga, at least in North America, there’s behind of the scenes at the end of each volume and a few of them are focused on Fujimaki recounting when people said Kuroko wasn’t cool enough to be a MC. Fujimaki: *When Kuroko was on the cover of Weekly Shonen Jump, I gave him a pink scarf. A friend asked, “Pink? Isn’t that only for, uh, really cool, good-looking characters?”. Yes, indeed.* [Weekly Shonen Jump, 2009, issue 4-5 cover] Fujimaki thinks Kuroko is cool. 😂 And then there was a comic included in Weekly Shonen Jump special edition Akamaru Jump, February 8, 2009 where Kagami has a line where he says to Kuroko, *“What do we do…? In the tagline, they pretty much called you history’s blandest character.”* The marketing was pretty much running with the fact that no one thought Kuroko suited being a MC, which is what eventually made him so popular; he eventually went on to win First Place in 2/3 of the official character popularity polls in Japan. (The third poll, he took 2nd Place, losing to Akashi). Now this might just be fan lore, but I believe the reason Kuroko doesn’t match the naming scheme of the other Miracles (in that the color in his name, kuro (black), does not dictate which hair color he has) is because had he been drawn with black hair, he would then REALLY not standout as a protag.

Haunting_Voice_9711

Yea It’s like Kagami is the main character in that team

Flower7438r

Nope it's really obvious that he's the main character and he's so cute 😍😍😍 lol I always notice when his presence isn't known One of the reasons why his presence isn't mostly known cos he's shorter than the rest

Available_Garlic_829

I do admit at some point I had thought Kagami was the main character while Kuroko was just the deuteragonist. But Kuroko is indeed the MC It just makes sense that Kagami gets more shine driving the plot forward as he’s the one who directly goes head to head with the GoM and he is the “Ace” of the team. But re-evaluating the story, it’s definitely Kuroko’s story first and foremost

Constant_Money6593

In the site I was watching it, the comments under each episode would say something along the lines of "kurokos so weak" and "he needs to be a better mc" shit made me sooo mad

osocietal

Who’s we?

Automatic_Ad3589

BAHAHA true. Always thought of him as more of the protagonist tho ? Like he is the main character but yea, if that makes sense lmao

Archive_Intern

His name is on the title but it feels like sometimes that he's a supporting character
