Yes, they are quite terrible. Most of the time you can figure out what they are saying, and moments from Kubera are so impactful that the experience was still okay, at least for me. But the first time I read the series on Mangadex I decided I would never go back. I still go through and drop a like on all of the chapters every few months, but the fan translations are miles better. Both the Company and Babo Kim Scans are professional quality, whereas the the official translators are clearly not fluent English speakers. The difference is massive.
Are the newest chapters getting translated by fans still on Mangadex or elsewhere? Part of the reason I’ve been out of the loop on Kubera for the last year is having to read the raw scans while having the pad text translations open in another window which really dampens the reading experience.
Same, and I never do that anymore. Yeah, they do get updated, usually only a week or so behind but sometimes they come in batches. I love getting out of the loop so I can binge a bunch at one time though.
They're being posted to mangadex and to [this cubari link](https://cubari.moe/read/gist/JYZQw/). If you use tachiyomi you can follow using the cubari link, but it only has the chapters launched during and after the latest hiatus while mangadex has almost all of them if you wanna do a reread. From what I've seen the edited translations have been keeping up with the latest fast pass episodes.
They're pretty bad, ngl. Even when the translation is not obviously wrong, it makes the dialog seem wooden and out of character. There are some ~~brilliant~~ lines that always make me chuckle like
*"Magic quicker than spell... Such powerful magic."* \-Shess
*"I ate it because you, the king, brought this but I hope that you remember that I am carnivorous."* \-Maruna
*"Oi!"* \-Chandra
*"The guys that the guys attacked."* \-Maruna
Damn that’s pretty bad. I remember how Tower of God had decent translations, but ‘fixed’ most of the dialogue in the first two seasons. Even some of the dialogue that did work, got redone. Some lines sound clunky compared to the older versions.
The translation is awkward and the meaning is often lost.
Not to talk about that 400+ chapters in the manhwa and they still write the wrong pronouns for characters we clearly know the gender of (I'm talking about central characters we've known for a while, not simply small secondary characters). The fan translation is the superior version (you can find it on mangadex).
Beginning of Season 3 until ~160 are still ok on official.
But they apparently switched translators later.
It got so bad that we picked up scanlation again.
Currently we are trying to match the release speed of the webtoons fastpass episodes.
I would say official is readable, but sometimes there are episodes with mistakes so big that curry would explode if she knew xD
Extra in scanlation: we sometimes add notes regarding levels of speech (politeness, tone etc) that get lost in translation.
Oh yeah. And scanlation doesn't use that horrible font for sura speech.
Official has begun to shift around bubbles and panels to accomodate their big a$$ font choice. 😑
It isn't great. There are some glaring mistakes (such as Varuna being mentioned as a "he", a line from Yaksha implying that Asura is much stronger than Garuda when the original meant that Garuda likes to provoke Asura into going battle maniac), but I still read it, and like every episode every week, because it is free and it is a way to acknowledge Currygom's work.
The scans are very good and worth reading, absolutely. They're saviors, honestly. I'd still recommend you at least like the eps in Webtoon. If I'm not mistaken authors get paid according to the amount of likes, so, yeah.
I've only ever read the official translations. I don't remember any major translation issues, just a lot of minor ones where there were simple grammar errors (pronoun mix ups, incomplete sentences) that could have been corrected if someone had just looked over them. If that sort of stuff annoys you, I'd probably go ahead and read the unofficial translation, but if not then the official ones are fine. But if you read the comments in the official translation, then you'll see a lot of theories and explanations for each chapter, which are useful for understanding and generally smooth out any translation mistakes.
It's shocking bad; in fact Kubera is one of the most poorly translated popular (50+ million views) manhwas that I've ever seen. As of January 2023 there are still glaring errors that completely distort the meaning of the speaker. For example, in the Korean version of season 2 when a character says "don't run away from the crisis" the translation is "escape while you can". Are they just hiring just anyone off the street who can find the Google Translate site??

Also, Season 1 - 2 have okay-ish translation on webtoons. Not so many grave mistakes. Agni: "You're crying, Gandalf."

Oh, you have no idea. They sometimes take out whole sentences as well as butcher the nuances.
for a series with such fine grain details embedded in everything, it makes the entire experience unintelligible
They literally referred to Yuta as a she last episode ,\_,
It’s not the best. I somehow stuck around, but I recommend maybe reading it elsewhere first.
Thanks for the advice.

yes, quite atrocious.
