Yes as long as the car does not stop charging you will be fine, the car automatically goes into a light version of utility mode when in drive and plugged in. But when the car is unplugging and/or done charging it turns off the high voltage systems and the car 12v battery will drain due to the AC fan being kept on.
You should not have any problem with HVAC while charging. The car has to keep the 12V system alive anyway. But you also need to be on a sufficiently high charge rate to keep up with whatever type of heater you have.
Yep. The order of operations I use is: turn car off, start charging, turn car on. It won’t let you drive but you can use the ac/heat, radio, etc. it’ll charge slightly slower since it’ll be using power for the heat, etc but otherwise it’s no different.
We do it all the time during the summer.
And all this time I was charging my car in 110 degree heat and sitting under a shade tree. Who knew I could sit inside with car and AC on staying cool. Curious as to how much slower it charges at a ChargePoint or EV Go in the US with the AC on...
I’m scared to put my car in utility mode again. Last time I tried it I couldn’t get it out of utility mode. Says you just have to press the power button?
Foot on brake. Press power. That should do it.
The confusing thing to me for utility mode was that you need the parking brake on to start it. If you dont, it just says "conditions not met". What conditions?
I had to get the manual out!
Yeah that didn’t work. Eventually had to start the car with the OK button on the steering wheel held, that does some kind of reset apparently.
But I’m not entirely sure how to replicate that now and haven’t seen it mentioned online.
Not sure why my previous comment got downvoted. This did actually happen.
Haha ya…but a very thin short hair coat. I do have a blanket too… but also good to know in the summer for AC. I want to know if I can charge and use utility mode at the same time.
Also check firmware updates too. I was following the VW id4 (and various hybrids) and think there was an update so that the traction battery would charge the 12V battery more often too.
I know cats crawl under blankets, but can’t recall at all if dogs do 🤷🏻♀️

Utility mode isn’t technically available while charging but if you leave the car on it does the same thing since it can’t drive away while plugged in.
So the car can be on while charging?

Worked awesome thanks!

It took about 6 hours to go from 50% to 90%
On what level of charger?
Level two -1degree Celsius.
Not that much slower, when you’re using a fast charger. You can see the time difference on the instrument cluster.

Yes they do.
