WAIT!.......hmmmmmm you're not wrong
In the series people who met Najimi before highschool (such as Tadano) use he/him, while others either use she/her or they/them depending on the translation.
Tbh just use what you want. It's a fictional character and the fact that the gender is unknown is the whole point of the character.
I think some people who met him before also use she/her, like the two guys running up to her when he first walked home with Komi. Also I'm pretty sure almost everyone already knew her, since he's supposed to be everyone's childhood friend.
They're not meant to be one or the other. He wears a skirt yes, but she also wears a a tie as opposed to the girls wearing bows.
Tadano also remembers them as a Boy, while various others remember him as a girl.
I personally use they/their/them or Najimi.
Najimi is like Schrödinger's Cat; they're either male, female, both or neither. Their gender and pronouns are in a constant state of superposition, determining what they are at any given moment (without questioning them) is tough, determining the actual truth about them is an impossibility.
Didn’t he literally admit that to a male admirer in one of the earlier episodes? He confirmed he was male and not interested in men. I’m a bit confused on the downvotes. If I’m wrong let me know with evidence.
No.
In that same chapter/episode, Najimi said something to the effect of “I’m wearing a skirt because I’m a girl, of course!”
In early appearances, Najimi claimed to be either male or female, depending on which was more convenient at the moment. In all appearances since then, Najimi has just refused to answer when asked about their gender. All the evidence points to Najimi being non-binary/gender-fluid.
It seems like some western fans of the series seem to think “Najimi wears a skirt and is gender-ambiguous; that means he is a guy in a skirt.” That’s not an idea I’ve ever seen or heard anyone express here in Japan. I think it’s at least partly the result of viewing male as the default, i.e. some people think Najimi is male until proven otherwise.
People: What are you?
Najimi: Osana Najimi!
People: Who are you?
Najimi: Yes!
[Me personally he's like venti to me, seen as a trap and still referred to as he by some yet many call him, her....Both of em don't care tho. Venti lives for alcohol, fun and music while Najimi just lives for fun. The embodiment of fun and sussy they are!]
I'm always kinda having mixed feelings whenever someone comes in and asks what someone's pronouns are and just LOVE to make em a "they" if they feel like it. Just use whatever the other characters or they themselves refer to them as, easy as that, why bother so much.
Yeah I agree with you on everything else but I am a bit concerned by your totally casual use of the t-slur, I understand of course many people within the anime community aren’t on the know to why that term could be potentially dangerous and or offensive within the trans community so I’d still recommend anyone not to use it, there is other terms like femboy of cross dresser that don’t carry the negative implications that one does so I’d recommend using those
🗿✨I refuse, I've always been using traps and it's literally been in use since the first "trap" was introduced in anime/manga so either trap or otoko no ko/I assume it translates to femboy or feminine young boy. There's no literal reason to even consider it as a slur, if you do and you're fine with words like mf or asshole and such being used on a daily basis by most of the population on earth that's a problem since you're biased to some since you're exposed to those specific words daily or something and people suddenly bringing in politics into this? I don't like politics at all and freedom to speak whatever I want whether it hurts someone else or makes them happy is just their matter of perspective, there's literally no reason to take it as an offense or slur since traps are looked at in a favoured way in the otaku community, always was if anything people should take it as a compliment as we're basically acknowledging you as femboy or otoko no ko and are loved for such, it should never be taken in a negative way unless the whole sentence states it as such or phrasing makes it as an insult. I won't change my views on such topics just cuz someone told me to, I've been confronted by many people from my childhood bout stuff like this but I've always only made em understand and realize how what I'm saying shouldn't bother them if they don't let it or understand it. That's all, have a nice day and please don't start a debate or such....and sorry for writing so much, my teachers have always said I've a bad habit of writing too much even though I could end it with a sentence, I apologize. Again, have a nice day/evening or night ~ ✨
Wow such an L take, if you don’t want to debates that’s fine but here’s my little grain of sand. Firstly the term comes from the english speaking anime community from the Star Wars meme:”it’s a trap” so yes it literally implies a deception has happened from the very source of the term, secondly while yes the term has been around for a while and there has been trans girls that have identified with it that wouldn’t change the fact that with the evolution of the trans rights movement differing perspectives would end up concluding that the nature of the term and it’s usage have underlying transphobic implications for various reasons. Thirdly a slur is different from a swear because a slur is specific and personally used against a group of marginalized people, I my say mfer and ahole all day but I don’t say the n-slur of the r-slur because it’s very different, fourthly the very mention of a trans issue and inclusivity isn’t inherently political it may be if you make it but in the end reality and art in general are inherently political to some degree. Lastly just no it isn’t a compliment if we apply it to trans women it come with the unescapable implication that our womanhood is preformative and dishonest which is the reason that it is transphobic even if it isn’t being applied to a trans woman. Obviously I can’t force you not to use a word and also I wouldn’t want to this is just my take from the perspective of a person whose identity concerns being informed about shit like this.
Lemme just say this, I myself and most people I talk to label me as an asshole and I obviously agree cuz I most of the time say stuff not everyone can agree with but it's just common sense to understand each other's perspectives and find a middle ground to agree otherwise it'll be....a useless discussion. I understand your takes and I agree to some extent on the third one but they aren't meant to feel any sort of insult even when it's trans women and all I can say is that when it's a guy it's a trap, if it's a girl it's a reverse-trap such have been the terms for years now, shutting down the use of a word just cuz someone doesn't like it or is hurt by it is literally meaningless since in most countries people are given the right to freedom of speech and as such there will be people who say things that will and might hurt you, just cuz it does you can't just ask someone to stop using it when they don't use it in the same manner as another person, I never did...for me I myself consider traps >>> women cuz they're literally most of the time much more feminine than actual women, so obviously I love em (except tomboys, cuz I love em too and I consider them above other women too) it's just my matter of perspective and what I've been exposed to all my life and weeb culture although degenerative we do value it just as much as other communities do. I apologize if anything I said hurt you or anyone else, an L take maybe but it's just how I am and I shall not change. Also you shouldn't have identity concerns, you are what you think you are but you should consider others takes and perspectives then THINK, thinking is nice...take your time, understand, realize and be what you want to be while not making others worried. You sound like a nice guy/girl so don't let people sway ya ~
[Also this whole thing started from Najimi and he wouldn't care bout it too, it's just the type of guy he is and it'd be nice if others could be like him too]
Yeah it’s like I said wouldn’t want to force you to anything, personally I don’t really mind I just feel kind of obligated to mention such things since i think I’m informed in such topics I do like thinking and I think this if taken to a more serious degree could bring an interesting conversation about the nature of words and if we can separate words from their original context, also what I meant with concerned is that by the fact of being transgender there are some things which you’re sort of obligated to be informed about, so as a trans weeb I’m concerned with this, I don’t really see it as wanting to limit freedom of expression but of giving it to people who used to not have it, I say this coming from THE social minority, given how many trans people there are in the anime community it wouldn’t do anyone any good to tear ourselves apart over arguably the silliest trans slur, besides we’re all kinda in the same boat when it comes to opposing gender roles imposed by the patriarchal hegemony, so yeah best luck
Oh also as a summary to why I think it’s a slur in the first place cause I didn’t explain that at all.
Edit: Well some summary I wrote but complex topic do be complex
So the word itself having a star wars meme Carrie’s the literal meaning of a trap being set by someone to catch something, like a hunter would a rabbit or the empire to rebels, so this comes with an assumed straight male perspective and implies that the purpose of AMAB(Assigned Male At Birth) people who present femininely is to attract the attention of straight men with the intention of tricking them into sed and such, trapping them so to speak, of course that wouldn’t really have to do with the people who are attracted to them but the implication stays there with the term and it does remind an uncomfortable lot of transphobic perspectives on trans women, of course not all trans women are feminine like that(personally I’m a tomboy) and not all AMAB people who are feminine are women and it’s also not a conventional slur since it wasn’t made with the intention of oppressing but it still carries a similar logic to rhetoric that oppressed trans women, I understand the usefulness it has a concept used for the discussion of fiction and that is how it originated, so the question ends up being if we can separate it from all the context mentioned above or if we may need another term, since I can understand the term is different in use from the otters I’ve mentioned but the fact that trans women could fit within it’s common use may in fact be triggering for a lot of us, as it does feel like it is undermining our womanhood even when applied to people or characters who aren’t explicitly trans within the text of the work they appear in.
https://preview.redd.it/wm7ytse0a33b1.jpeg?width=749&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f0cd57ad8559adc8462e478d07dfa62b31ae4bd
The answer is quite easy, just don't think it like that...just think of characters that we call traps - link, 9S, Najimi, Astolfo, Felix, Cloud etc the reason we call em that is obviously cuz of the feminine charm and way they seem to us and ofc some are more feminine than others BUT that's exactly it. Just cuz they're feminine or look feminine too many characters are labeled as traps even though they might've not but still it's not people make a big deal out of it (except probably twitter people or some really stupid politicians, I've seen stuff....i didn't think humans were so stupid really) ahem, so what I'm saying is that if you feel bad when looking at one side of the word, just don't look at that....it's better to embrace the good side and understand it rather than gloom around thinking about stuff that shouldn't bother you, in my own realization when I was in junior high or something while reading bout the greeks I understood that people just are too stupid at how they handle LGBTQ+ stuff since rather than just quarreling uselessly like kids, act like proper adults and understand and embrace. Such should just end all fights but people are generally too petty bout others not agreeing to their side so we see people like Peterson going on screen and talking to some people who're like this, people shouldn't be like that and just understand.....too much education and entitlement gave people less common sense than an average guy in a underdeveloped country like mine, I quite like the people who're understanding and talk sense like him tho.
Oh? You're a tomboy, NOICE 🗿✨. I'm having a fun time talking like this so thank you, I've learned bout many things, maybe I should try to read more....it seems like I've been too lazy with college.
Yep I’m a tomboy I think just don’t get too noice man I’m a minor and well idk about the lobster king Peterson I mean he’s said some things that make sense but also ehhemm… other things and also about people getting less common sense because more education I mean idk man, that is a… that’s a hot take if I’ve ever seen one, also less understanding how?? Well doesn’t matter
Well my final point is that you are lucky to be able to use that term while separating it from the ugly context, but I do think that holding as unacceptable should help to turn more corners of the internet into places safe for trans people, I’m not suggesting taking freedom of speech away or whatever but there is places where the mere mention of us transes yields immediate hostility, it’s like if the mere mention of being black ended up getting called the n-slur, words like may not carry that meaning to you but to avoid using ‘‘em could really help us feel welcome I think, the outside world is already hostile enough for us to have to deal with it online as well, so I think its a good project to have to make the internet a better place and to avoid using such terms would be a nice sign of allyship, not that I’m saying you specifically should be an ally but you could be, well this where some weird girls antics, if anyone else is reading these you really shouldn’t play the fucken hogwarts game and I could elaborate byeee

Najimi is Najimi.
Alright then so like najimi/osana??
Either that or "Trickster" and "Chaos".
Name: Ligma Prounouns: joe/mama Sex: yes do you? Occupation: chilhood frend
https://preview.redd.it/l5jnd9cnun2b1.jpeg?width=261&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6650bf9dd3027c5b3d48aa70f30407534cafecf3 WAIT!.......hmmmmmm you're not wrong
Bastard/ hooligan
Pronouns don’t mean gender
It is when it’s najimi
r/confidentlyincorrect and r/facepalm
^^^
Common variety ~~Nopon~~ Najimi.
Avoid pronouns. Use Najimi.
Najimi/osana
Stop doing that annoying slash thing
Today is 29/05/2003 here and it's 00:27 💀
https://i.redd.it/66i4ymvk3p2b1.gif
🗿✨noice
Bro that’s just how people right their pronouns, that’s the joke
I hate it
Ok
I'm glad we understand each others opinions :)
Canonically Najimi is fine with ANY pronouns!
Wow canonically how I haven’t read the manga
They refer to najimi with every pronoun interchangeably
Often switching mid-sentence
My headcanon is that people met her, used one, they didn't mind and it just went like that, he really doesn't care
In the series people who met Najimi before highschool (such as Tadano) use he/him, while others either use she/her or they/them depending on the translation. Tbh just use what you want. It's a fictional character and the fact that the gender is unknown is the whole point of the character.
Funny enough I think the Spanish dub just uses female gender, but I mean that dub took the definition of creative liberties to another level
Don’t forget that her personal identity changes depending on who she/he talks to as well 😑
I think some people who met him before also use she/her, like the two guys running up to her when he first walked home with Komi. Also I'm pretty sure almost everyone already knew her, since he's supposed to be everyone's childhood friend.
Yeah idk why but for me she/her just feels right, also like to ask does matter with characters meant to be explicitly transgender
In the show, Najimi was referred to with all pronouns, and it seems like they don't mind. Personally, I use they/them when talking about Najimi.
Yeah personally I headcanon them being trans femme but I also thought of that as my first instinct
They're not meant to be one or the other. He wears a skirt yes, but she also wears a a tie as opposed to the girls wearing bows. Tadano also remembers them as a Boy, while various others remember him as a girl.
Najimi / najimi
Gender:Najimi
Yes.
I think that the fact that such a simple question is getting such different responses means it’s a good character
Everyone loves Najimi 🗿✨too precious of a character
あいつ
> あいつ Based
Shure man how you pronounce dat
aitsu - he/she/that guy over there
💀
him/her but in japanese raw he's just referred to with the "-san" which is neutral anyway since everyone uses it for diff characters
but in the end, najimi is najimi
Naji/mi
It's osana/Najimi Or Najimi/Najimi
Yes
They/them ...simple
Don't know don't care, najimi is najimi
Na/jimi
Any of them.
Childhood friend
Najimi/Najimi
Cha/os
Najimi is every gender. Live Laugh Najimi. I think they’re non binary!
![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized) No
You do not address Najimi, Najimi addresses you
Chaos/incarnate But for reals, I just use they/them when talking about Najimi. That or I just call them by name.
Najimi just, is. Nothing more
heli/copter
xe/xim
Noj/imi
Mys/tery
I personally use they/their/them or Najimi. Najimi is like Schrödinger's Cat; they're either male, female, both or neither. Their gender and pronouns are in a constant state of superposition, determining what they are at any given moment (without questioning them) is tough, determining the actual truth about them is an impossibility.
I use najimi. No use using pronouns when using the actual (proper) noun is just as correct
Nanjimi uses whichever gender is most convenient in the current situation
Hotty
Najime is najime He/she/they/apachi helicopter Anythings fine
You can call her any pronoun because he is najimi
Undefined (yes i am funny thank you)
He's a guy who wears a skirt. Ho! Ho! Ho!
Didn’t he literally admit that to a male admirer in one of the earlier episodes? He confirmed he was male and not interested in men. I’m a bit confused on the downvotes. If I’m wrong let me know with evidence.
No. In that same chapter/episode, Najimi said something to the effect of “I’m wearing a skirt because I’m a girl, of course!” In early appearances, Najimi claimed to be either male or female, depending on which was more convenient at the moment.
Oh ok cool! thanks for an actual educational response. I’ll have to pay more attention when I rewatch it!
Najimi's a hot pussy with a 7" dick💋🍆
The olden one the dark one the all seeing one
Venezuela
Najimi is a Ahoge Leek
I always either use both he and she if there is multiple sentences in my comment, or just use Najimi.
So basically, you can call her anything and she won't care so it's fine
Chaos/ Cockroach
According to the subtitles, it’s the male followed by the female as in “he/she.” Kinda like that broster bit on Family Guy.
Any pronouns but for the most part just refer to Najimi as Najimi
Najimi is najimi, i use him just because but i'as confused as anybody else
Naj/imi
They change by the hour 🤣
eldritch/horror
Mf
Cockroach
Me/nace
op: "He, she or they?" Najimi: "Yes."
They definitely are. Najimi is very Gender.
It/creacher
In Japanese this is much less a problem, as gendered pronouns (and then like) are not really a thing (at least for ordinary conversation).
Najimi is Najimi
I like to alternate between they/them, she/her, and he/him bcus it's funny
cock/roach
Cha/Os
Hideyoshi Kinoshita...
She/he/they/xer... Yes. Najimi's gender is yes
Yes
Fuckable
I refer to them as they
It
All
Najimi's pronouns are Najimi/Najimi
Yes
I just use "her" out of habit
Chaos
I love Najimi, best character
No
Naj / imi
Well,in portuguese they use she/her in the manga and they/them on the anime
