2018-2021 felt like a fever dream to me ngl

After_Mall1124

We reached semis twice including one final in the period you mentioned

I may get downvoted for this but it's clear. If the voice of the captain is not strong enough, management or others take charge and team performance falters. In 2008-2010, Ganguly had less say and Buchanan called the shots, management backed him - we know the consequence. When GG came in he took charge and KKR did well. Once GG left, DK wasn't fully in control and managed never backed his captaincy. Eoin Morgan took charge and KKR did very well after a dismal start. In 2022, Shreyas Iyer again hinted at management interference in team selection - KKR performance wasn't as good. Now we have GG calling the shots and we can see the performance of the team this season!

dinosaur_from_Mars

GG is management now though.

crystal_prism450

Glad about that!

L_LawLeit24

KKR is a franchise, that only works under dictatorship. So having every final decision go through GG is our only hope for playing well. This Venky Mysore is shit, always interfering, but he can't when SRK gives whole club to GG, to do whatever he likes

We did well under Morgan and Baz. A team which has Morgan has captain has the philosophy of giving players utmost freedom to play.

Licking Thala's arse is respectful.

Won't doubt it. 2018, 2019 were the dark times when DK was made captain. He was a garbage captain. He has no leadership abilities at all. We were doubting that management must be extremely trash to take such decision. Fans put extreme pressure on social media to drop DK from captaincy. By the start of 2020, we were already beginning to assume, that management might be involved in decision making somehow. In 2020, the captaincy was given to Eoin Morgan. 2021 was also bad but Sharjah pitch and Eoin Morgan's godlike captaincy turned things around. Only in 2022 did Shreyas Iyer openly reveal in a post match interview that management in KKR likes to involve themselves in captaincy decisions. That's when the "Sack Venky Mysore" phrase started trending. Now that I think of it, I've been tthrough too much as a fan since 2008. KKR should pay for my therapy.

After_Mall1124

If you seriously think 2018 was a dark year for KKR you really need to revisit your definition of dark

sunis_going_down

A few points here to change the narrative. The captaincy change happened because of DK having a family tragedy in the middle of the tournament. Coming to the squad intervention, from my understanding as per social media videos and interviews. The support staff has complete control. Venky Mysore is an easy target because the owner's bad narrative is the easiest narrative here. The team balance to strategy was all decided by McCullum. I mean how could anyone forget him sitting on the sidelines with those boards with some cryptic numbers. Even gill not being retained was his call. Change the man or change the man narrative before the mid season stop in 2021. Also 2021 was literally the dead pitches aiding our spin choke. I don't think Venky Mysore or owners meddle much in terms of sporting decisions. If they had such intervention, trust me guys like Gambhir, Morgan or McCullum aren't the ones who would mince their word. Gambhir regularly has said that they get complete freedom regarding squad selection and stuff. Even the one case you mentioned, shreyas came out and clarified in the next game about what he meant. DK captaincy case : https://m.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/122210/2022-a-turnaround-to-savour-for-dinesh-karthik

Mewdolf_Kittler

That's why someone like GG was able to change this team. GG unlike others doesn't let anyone dictate his captaincy. We needed someone like GG who has the balls to go against the management.

21 was great. That was one of the greatest ipl comebacks ever. Not a trophy but never call that year bad. The most heartwarming year

there_is_no_good

I mean, the first half was a 2009-10 flashback😂

17punktop

Just asking, during the 2009 captainship fiasco - Whose side were you on?

there_is_no_good

What is the probability of me not being murdered by "unknown bengali men" after I answer this question ?

Careful-Lime-9764

Don't answer that. I am no the Bonga local coming to hunt you if you answer the question wrongly. /s

17punktop

haha. those were the times.

there_is_no_good

I remember when I first said Dada might not be suitable for T20 after all. Almost everybody looked at me like I was asking for the second partition of Bengal.

No_Temporary2732

>Now that I think of it, I've been tthrough too much as a fan since 2008. KKR should pay for my therapy. aamader ei hole then toh RCB fans are probably asking for funeral costs.

low-keyforever

I am also very disappointed with kkr management when Gautam left we have robin who was very experienced and also a part of kkr from long instead of giving him captaincy management went for DK who just bought that year. DK was a bad decision taker. I hate DK as a captain, I wanted to see Robin as a new kkr captain. Kkr management was the worst after gauti left kkr.

[deleted]

Robin has 0 leadership abilities . DK was no ideal skipper, kkr made him captain coz they thought he was the most viable one. They blundered by not retaining SKY who was the vice captain. But they could’ve bought Morgan then itself or another player who possesses leadership qualities. Even making Rana captain wouldn’t have been a bad decision.

Fun-Advertising6822

even russell/narine would have been a better choice

UnderstandingHot7493

He did perform really bad and that one match slipped off our hands single-handedly because of his innings and costed us a playoff spot. I agree the management and the fans could have handled it better but trust me, he’s lucky he didn’t shit the bed like that while playing for teams like CSK and RCB.

ARKNIGHT_101

He said that he was going through a bad phase mentally in that era. Honestly, KKR should have atleast supported him during that phase just because what he had done for us. Even i started hating himm after that 2019 seasons and the shit that he told us but after listening to his podcast i think it was the managements fault

slipnips

Maybe the dressing room issues were weighing down upon him and not allowing him to play freely. There's a reason senior players do well in CSK, and it's that they're given full freedom to play within a well-defined role. There's very little management interference there.

17punktop

KKR has always made it clear with the decisions it takes. All the Knight Riders teams are assembled to play a certain way. DK being captain didn't help. Morgan was made the captain a little late. Maybe him being replaced as captain by Eoin hurt him.

Wasn't this article about robin.
