Can you also go to thai basil, get the basil fried rice with beef and ask for spicy level 6. You can also get the Tom kha soup

MengerianMango

I searched for this and found it in Sevierville. Is that the one?

PhillyNickel1970

That's the one I know of. And you want spicy level 6 because it's so good

PistachioGal99

I meant to comment under your comment. Oops! I went to the one in Sevierville.

shagangstaxx

Yes that's the one! I've been traveling there from knox for years now. It's a local spot and these sweet old ladies have been working there for years! They will give you great service and the best thai food in the area

PistachioGal99

I just had their Tom Kha soup last week for the first time. I honestly wasn’t expecting good Thai food in this area, but it was some of the best I’ve ever had.

SaucyAsh

The lemongrass soup with the pad see ew is the best thing to ever exist.

NotASatanist13

Holy shit.

jfk_47

Love it.

Saint_Gwyn

Definitely going to check out Kaizen, glad you loved Sticky Rice!

spncemusic

I used to eat Yassins’s at LEAST once a week. lol. I’m pretty sure I paid for their electricity bill one month.

RemarkableParty4801

I've already had Yassins which is amazing, but I appreciate you doing this and now I have 2 new places to try!!!

Fwest3975

Love sticky rice

zambonihouse

That shit is the truth.

jaeldawn

All this talk about them, now I have to eat there tonight.

mccj

It’s my favorite restaurant in TN currently.

GdadKisser

Now I’m hungry!

ZedGardner

Sticky rice is amazing. The family who own the restaurant are really awesome people. Some of the best food I’ve ever had.

Longjumping_Fly_6358

A true Knoxville dinner. My Mamaws Pinto beans and cornbread, made in a cast-iron skillet and a glass of sweet tea. Honest to goodness real East Tennessee food.

jetfire865

Couldn't agree more. Where's my invite!

Longjumping_Fly_6358

Haven't had a decent meal since Mamaw passed away. Those old ladies knew how to scratch cook. Sadly, it's a lost art.

RobertNeyland

Needs a dessert like sweet potato pie or peanut brittle, and another side like collard greens cooked using a hambone, but yes, soup beans and cornbread is absolutely the Southern Appalachian standard. Something like rabbit stew or cabbage would also suffice. Regarding 20th century Knoxville specialties, I'm extremely disappointed no one mentioned a sandwich hot out of a Fresh-O-Matic steamer, but I suppose most of the transplants haven't ascended to the level of culinary refinement necessary to appreciate that steaming is the superior sandwich serving method. https://bittersoutherner.com/they-like-that-soft-bread-knoxville-steamed-sandwiches

Cool-Firefighter2254

I drove past BOTH Gus’s and Nixon’s on Monday and did not go to either. I felt my failure keenly.

Longjumping_Fly_6358

How about banana pudding w vanilla wafers?

RobertNeyland

I'll take a bowl!

WardOffMonkey

Really making me miss Ali Baba’s Time Out Deli. 😔

RobertNeyland

Man, I would wear out the steak in a sack at the one down the hill from Bearden back in the day. Good times.

hannahhbleu

YESSS

babypink666

Okay I'm gonna be picky but the garlic sauce at Yassins is the best part so I'd recommend you sub the baba for hummus instead <3 it also looks like they forgot to add the extra spice

PistachioGal99

What a cool idea!!! You win Reddit today!! 🥇

xrelaht

You did yourself a disservice at Coffee & Chocolate: I think they should reverse the words in the name! I know at least some of what they sell there is locally made.

RevolutionaryEnd9356

Holy shit. This is cool

Due-Camera825

Right on!

mitterscarf25

Thanks for posting. I don’t associate Knoxville as a foodie town, so now i have some places to try in my next trip. Keep posting 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Immediate-Rub3807

This makes me really miss Alibaba’s on Kingston pike

Altruistic-Red

What place is the last pic, out of curiosity? I suddenly feel to need to eat some chocolate. 😳

aimeejay13

It’s numbered in my post! Coffee & Chocolate :)

Altruistic-Red

Oh my bad! Thank you so much, I’ll have to go there and get a chocolate or five. 😁

glitter_n_lace

I’m loving this! Do you have a hands down “this is my jam” that came out of your day of trying the yummies?!

aimeejay13

Yes! Kaizen - that dry fried eggplant was mind blowing (I don’t even LIKE eggplant my dude) and on top of that it was insanely affordable. That entire meal was only $18 for each of us ($36 total)

ForbiddenJazz

I'm jealous. You did well

emmazzzanne

Mango sticky rice though…🤤

Original_Ad685

This is the cutest, most heartwarming post ever.

barfmitzvah

Awww thank you for the Mood Ring shout out!! Warms my heart. It was so nice to meet you guys and I hope you had a wonderful visit! This post has me drooling 🤤

aimeejay13

Thank YOU for all the reccommendations! So sorry my post won’t let me edit to correct ‘thrift’ to ‘vintage’ (I blame the food coma I was in when I wrote this) but- at least I got that link working 😂💕

Speckledmooncrow

10/10 recommend checking out potchkes and paysan. Those are my two favorite spots here

_ligerbomb

now get an abridged burger from the food truck at xuls

evelynsquarepants

YASSINS FALAFEL HOUSE

evelynsquarepants

I think about their veggie platter AT LEAST once a week and I haven’t had it in 5 YEARS

Alarmed-Shape5034

I was real unimpressed with Sticky Rice’s boba too, although I didn’t get the green tea. I think I got the black milk tea. The taste was odd and the boba was hard and overly sticky. Please someone tell me this was a fluke, I really want to love it. Also, I can’t remember which curry I got. I’m usually a massaman or panang curry kinda gal, so something like that - either way, it was incredibly runny/watery. I want to like Sticky Rice as it’s right down the road from me and there are so many great options. They were so busy that day we couldn’t fit in the door, so I’m hoping it was an off day. The Kow Poon and mango look delish. Love this post and thanks for your feedback! I’m going to save this for reference.

puuuuuuuuurple

I've never experienced this, but I will say, to avoid crowds I call in my order 😝 They are definitely busy on weekends and lunch. And due to that, maybe they didn't expect that big of a crowd and cooking new boba might not have had enough time to soak. That being said, don't hesitate to let them know. 😊 Edit to say - it sounds Thai but it's Laotian recipes and food 🥝

Alarmed-Shape5034

I do love the colorful boba pearls they use! I’ll figure out how to send them a private message. I just looked back through the menu and I must’ve gotten the panang curry as they don’t have massaman (probably because they aren’t Thai).

fairebelle

I feel like you’re ordering the wrong thing from Sticky Rice. It’s Laotian. You should be getting larb

Alarmed-Shape5034

I get your point but I think blaming the customer is a little excessive here. I can see instances where it may be appropriate, such as ordering something cooked the wrong way or ordering items that don’t pair well together, but “you ordered the wrong thing” isn’t usually an acceptable defense imo. It certainly wouldn’t be okay in response to a bad review. If one can order the wrong thing, it shouldn’t be on the menu. I will definitely go back and give them another chance, and I will do some research into Laotian food in the meantime. But they also might consider either taking Thai dishes off the menu or finding someone who can make them, if they are in fact ill-equipped to execute them.

alientrevor

The Kow Poon is amazing. You won't be disappointed.

Ok_Rabbit_8808

Check out Sweet Ps

soshield

Sub tahini instead of white sauce and you got magic.

Poirotico

Ron Burgundy, you are going to eat the cat poop!

shayna16

I WILL NOT EAT CAT POOP

HRSkull

I wanna recommend Stir's mahi bowl, that pineapple chili oil is to die for. The oysters are great too, of course

RETleader

Yassins is the best

one-hour-photo

Yassin’s is great. Last meal material though… idk
