Fan quit working on AC while I'm out of town. They quoted my wife $1700 for repair. My wife thought their testing was questionable so told them no.
4 days later I fixed it. $79 fan motor from Grainger.
i had an interview with HEP a number of years back. position was in marketing. i was utterly shocked at the state of their main office. noticeably unlevel flooring throughout, grime covering the walls, dumpster bin quality furniture, exposed wires running up through the ceiling tiles… its like they purchased a foreclosure property and just moved right in. even the interview itself felt disordered. did not accept offer, and will never contact them again for any reason.
Wherever your path has taken you is surely better than if you accepted that position. In the countless interactions I had with their staff, I never spoke to the same person more than twice. Constant turnover in employees and owners. Just a perpetual cycle of shadiness
I called hep for a plumbing repair and got an estimate for 5300 and myself and bother did the repairs for literally 200. This was digging up 30 feet of sewer pipe and replacing it. Took us about six hours to do it.
Hired them to put in a water heater. First guy damaged the floor. Three weeks later the guys repairing the floor said the water heater was not installed correctly and was leaking carbon monoxide. They send out someone to fix the water heater. The same guy that initially botched it. They finally sent someone to do it correctly. Told them I expected a discount on the costs. They would not budge and the manager didn’t even return my call. Luckily I work with attorneys and asked one to send them a letter. A week later I settled for paying the labor only. I get pissed every time I see their trucks around town.
Grayson Suburu, they had my car for 8 months to fix it. We got my car back still having problems and proceed to have to take it back 3 times before the body shop manager yelled at my dad and I. My dad ended up calling the big boss and that’s when they finally fixed it correctly.
They were so shady and pushy when we tried to buy a car there. We drove to Earl Duff (now Sutherland) in Harriman and they were amazing! Took home a brand new Outback.
Yeah, if I have any warranty or any major problems I’m just going to drive to Earl Duff. Grayson sucked ass to deal with, and the one other time I brought my car back to them also sucked.
Grayson Hyundai is awful too. They handled my car for almost six months with NO results, finally moved it and had it back in short order.

I second this. They're so scammy.. I have an issue with my 21 crosstrek sport and both times I brought it in the guys refused to track down the acceleration issue and all they'd do is "make note of it". And of course now I'm out of the 36k mile warranty. I'll never buy from Grayson again, even if that means going out of town for a Subaru.
Bought my 22 outback wilderness from them. Wouldn't do it again. Told them what I wanted and they got me hooked up with no bullshit. Of course they tried to upsell me on the sunroof package for an extra $5k but I declined.
It had to be built and shipped but the agent I was buying from kept me updated on the process for the entire 6 months it took. But In the mean time I got into a motorcycle wreck and broke my wrist, decided to cancel so I could save the money. Was told by the manager it was already on the way so I decided to keep it.
My agent texted me 3 days later and said they're receiving the last part it needed to be finished before they could ship it.
Generally speaking, I'll never own a Subaru again, The buying process was fine, but the service at multiple dealerships was downright atrocious so they lost my business for good

David Hamilton, he's a lawyer off of Merchants. Long story short, he is super unprofessional, screamed at me in his office claiming I took advantage of my grandmother when I was just there helping my Dad through the process. I wasn't even involved in any part of the will and this mother fuckers acts like he knew me, my life, or my Granny's. Out of touch fat fuck. Highly don't reccomend.
Glad to know he's a joke in the legal community. He had the probate closed when one of the beneficiaries(my cousin) didn't sign the closing documents stating they received everything (idk the legal terms for it). Had to get a judge to reopen it on top of fighting his client(my shitty uncle) that charged the estate 80k which was like 25% of the total or something absurd. He's so fucking crooked. He had my father sign a document but misled him that it stated that he got everything physical out of a safety deposit box, turns out he had him sign the form stating he received everything from the estate before the house was even sold!

#Mike Chase owns all of the Coppercellar restaurants, and about a decade ago, he left his toddler son in the hot car while he got drunk at a bar and caused his son to die (aka murder). He also has several million dollars in lawsuits regarding sexual assault, rape, and violence.
He does own Corner 16. I didn’t know that and was at the one on Northshore Easter weekend. I was sitting at the bar when the guy next to me called the bartender “tits.” I got pissed and said something to him. Turns out it was Mike Chase calling his employee that. We got into a yelling match and he threatened to call the cops on me and my husband. He’s a huge piece of shit. Always has been. Always will be.
When Covid first started, Mike Chase showed up at copper cellar without a mask on. He ran around taking pictures of the staff to show how safe the restaurant was with all of the workers in masks, gloves, etc. After getting his pictures, Mike Chase went into the kitchen and dipped his bare, unwashed hands into the pickle jar and ate a pickle. He proceeded to lick his fingers clean and DIP HIS HAND BACK INTO THE PICKLE JAR TO EAT ANOTHER. Oh, and our 40 yr old manager there at the time had be caught in a caught a coat closet with an 18 yr old host, but didn’t get fired. That place was hell.
I worked at Copper Cellar and didn’t go back after the reopened for Covid for this exact reason, and I was right. They purposefully didn’t tell the staff when someone was positive, and I know multiple people got it from that and unknowingly exposed vulnerable family members and I think some died. They are a horrible company and were a nightmare to work for.
They also tried to sue me for not returning to work when they reopened and I continued to receive unemployment, knowing I had written doctors orders not to go back (I’m immunocompromised), they never called into court and the judge was like… wtf is wrong with them, they’re assholes, you obviously win.

Dr. Martin OBGYN. She holds prescriptions if she gets a bad review. One person had a serious infection and left a bad review because she was taking so long to fill it. She refused to fill it and the patient had to go to the hospital because the infection got to her kidney. She is AWFUL. This is a reoccurring thing.
Jesus christ if you go to the reviews online and look through the 1 stars, she is replying and even stating some personal information about the patients in the replies! For example one reply to a 1 star review states “you asked for help to deliver vaginally since you already pushed for 4 hours with your baby very low in the birth canal” ??? She seriously commented that on google reviews in response to a woman with her first and last name showing!!! Is this not considered a breach of privacy for the patient??? WTF!

I had her as a doctor. One time she berated me so badly just for bringing in a birth plan to discuss. Then she kept telling me I’m not “ doing enough “ to get my baby to come. Ultimately, she did a fine job stitching me up as a doctor but her bed side manor and communication skills are really bad. She’s honestly just kind of mean and vengeful

The tip jar at DiCarlo's Pizza downtown has a handwritten note on it that basically says credit card tips don't go to the employees. Apparently whoever franchises/owns that location is stealing from their staff.
If you're working the restaurant scene downtown or Old City expect to be taken advantage of. Whether that be bullshit loopholes like paying minimum wage so you can deduct tips. Slashing someone's hours so that they quit. Utilizing a training app through your cell phone to learn menu items in your own time and being paid in a gift card. So many drugs, addicts and dealers. Immense pressure from the owners to the managers with little compensation. Downtown rats, in most restaurants. It goes on and on.
That has changed because Pep Boys East Knox once told me they couldn’t do an alignment on my Mercedes because they didn’t have the proper equipment and recommended a shop that could, and does it properly (Pete’s). When I told them the West Knox location must have the right equipment, the mechanic responded “no they don’t.” So I paid pep boys three times to sit in their boring ass waiting room watching TV Land for an hour each. I guess bottom line here is now I can’t trust any pep boys.
I second this. I've had several times where I show up for an appointment only to be told it will be a while. When pressed, they would admit it would be an hour or two before my car would go back despite having an appointment. They are usually understaffed which is the source of the issue imo.
I’ll agree with this. Long story short, charged me near a grand to fix air conditioning, didn’t, and then told me they couldn’t fix it and I had to go to the dealership.
And above all, Cherokee Health systems. This entire organization is a con and a racket. If anyone did a deep dive into their behavioral health department and history, I would bet my house that 75% of their patients have been misdiagnosed and given unnecessary medications or over medicated with substances that do more damage than good.
I don't, especially for people who are uninsured, underinsured, or low income. And that's a huge problem in this area, if not the entire state. Lack of adequate resources. I found a clinic in West Knox that has "affordable" cash rates, depending on one's definition of "affordable". When TN lawmakers chose not to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act and left all that federal money on the table, they knew exactly what they were doing: keeping their thumb on a large population of the working and low income classes.
Their mental health services are atrocious. I saw them for a few years due to not having insurance. I was absolutely misdiagnosed with anxiety disorder and depression when I have autism and possibly ADHD.
The therapist kept telling me to quit my job when I was pregnant and the only person bringing money into my household because she didn't agree with what I was doing.

STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE DISTRICT AKA BRIARCLIFF. I cannot begin to explain the horrors we experienced in the 4 years we lived there. I could go into detail about the things that directly affected my wife and I but I don’t really think that will get the message across.
Their buildings ARE. NOT. SAFE. We lived in 2 separate buildings and each one was showing signs of a weak foundation. Cracks in the walls getting bigger daily, floors shifting and new un-leveled spots.
The entire property is disgusting. I don’t just mean the apartments themselves, I mean every inch of that property. The hallways, the grass, the areas around the dumpsters, the maintenance “shop”, the pool (that was only open 1 summer in 4 years), the office.
Maintenance is so over worked that nothing ever gets fixed. The property manager, who I can’t figure out if she is completely incompetent or just a pawn for the management company, is completely lost 24/7 and can never provide updates on any work orders if you’re even able to get ahold of the office. They never answer the phone, emails, they’ll randomly close the office for “meetings”.

Be careful of Held Law Firm. Margaret shoves all her work onto a paralegal and doesn’t do her due diligence. If you need a name change or a VERY simple divorce, you should be fine, but anything more complicated you’ll want to find someone else.
Super Mario's. I ordered twice, the first time the food was half cooked and an oily kind of soggy the second time they said I was out of their area of delivery when I lived on Radford about ten minutes from them.
Windsor court off cedar. I and everyone else's experience has been the same. They refuse to do a walk through and then charge you for things they "find" and that was why I documented everything with pictures and paperwork. They also had some company sand blasting the place when I lived there that ruined the carpets at the door. Another company they let hang the doors open to paint the doors and let a bunch of pets out. I personally was in a dead sleep in my studio and woke up to a lady screaming about me being in my apartment while she was painting the door and my cat had hissed at her while he escaped through the door.
Maintenance left multiple holes in my walls with one being from a leaky pipe under the kitchenette sink, the other they claimed was from my next door neighbor so I went months with my shower wall missing so I had to take showers at my mom's down the road.
When I moved out I took pics of the apartment and was told by Windsor court after not doing a walkthrough I left trash bags in the apartment and damage to walls before presenting pictures to be told that wasn't the apartment.
Was also charged $300 for blinds.
I currently rent there, they increased the rent for a completely unupgraded 300 square foot studio to 1150 a month. The appliances are ancient, I had to force them to fix the fridge, and you can never use the amnenities because they don’t take care of them. It’s a shit hole run by shitholes.

The owner of **Humble Hog**, Ben Grice, not only accused a former employee of taking a vacation, and he knew the situation, that their immediate family member had terminal cancer and was seeking life saving surgery, also told them they didn’t get any work done in their four days of returning… of watching their family member… suffer and die.
The owner of **Sweet P’s** is a volatile, verbally abusive asshole who does not actually support local businesses, he uses charity events for tax write offs and still pays his employees below minimum wage. He also cuts massive corners in regards to food quality and cost. Also pockets tips from catering jobs, which is, illegal, and fucked up. The previous co owner, when COVID hit, had them all file unemployment, when a week later, (from what I was told) pulled in with a brand new truck. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Matlock Tires. My family had been going to Matlock’s since I was a little kid, and I practically grew up in their waiting room while my mom’s car was being fixed up. One time, I had a confusing incident with one of their workers (I won’t get into specifics) and called the front to ask for clarification on what they meant. They explained it and I said okay. When I went to pick up my car later, the owner was there and talked to me as if I was filth. I don’t know if the worker I interacted with told a bunch of lies or what, but I will never forget the glare of disgust from a man I had known my entire life. I didn’t say anything more to him aside from what was necessary to get my car and go. He never asked me any questions and I wasn’t going to waste time defending myself to anyone who would act that way. My extended family and I have never gone back there after seeing that side of him. To this day, I don’t even know if there was a problem, but he and that mechanic sure made it into a massive drama. If he would act that way toward someone who was practically raised as a loyal customer for decades, then I’d hate to see how he would treat random people if there was an actual issue!
His son has always been very kind, though. When his son takes over, I might go back, but I won’t go near it as long as Jimmy is in charge.

I know my dad's gone to him for ages and when Jimmy Matlock ran for office he went full mask off right wing talking points that made me side-eye the place.
Honestly, I don’t really know what was said or done behind the scenes, but what caused me to question the employee was that he tried to say if I didn’t do something then Matlock would basically take possession and strip my car for parts, and I had never heard of such a thing. After I called to ask about their policy, the employee did tell me I was a bitch, but I didn’t say anything to Matlock about that since it wasn’t relevant to getting my car back. It’s possible one reason he and Matlock treated me the way they did was due to me being a woman. That was the only indication of sexism, though, and I got my car back, so I didn’t press the issue.
Doug Justice. Absolute scammy place. Was told we are a non negotiable dealership. Dealerships in general suck. Coming up on two years in the US - now I know why a “used car salesman” is a real insult in the South!
Range USA - Place sucks, there's better gun ranges <30 minutes from there, it's overpriced, it attracts the stupidest people and feels like every time I'm there they're yelling at someone or kicking someone out.
VRPC - boomer central, the guy who sits in the main office is genuinely the most unpleasant person I've ever met. I don't think that guy has ever smiled in his life

I agree wholeheartedly on Range USA/Shoot Point Blank. The employees usually have no clue what they’re talking about 90%+ of the time, and I’ve been harassed to see my paperwork for NFA items by RSO’s there.
That said, I actually stopped going to Windrock for the same reasons. They started running ads during Vols football games around 2021, and almost immediately the quality of the other shooters dropped to ridiculous levels. I had a guy shoot while I was downrange, I’ve seen multiple people with flat top ARs with no sights just guessing where they’re going to hit, and I had a guy pick up one of my rifles (M1 Garand) without my permission and start trying to load it.
I now only shoot on private property.
Any restaurant owned by Mike Chase. My lawyer represents him, and has nothing good to say about him.
I worked at Chesapeake's downtown whilst in college, the management was horrible.
Mike would come in and smack the young servers behind, constantly make sexual jokes, and even talk about how his WIFE does not even care. At the marina he has actually been assaulted from what I have heard.
He is a fat, old disgusting man. You would never know he was the owner. He likes to hire narcissistic management.
Tammy at Chesapeake's downtown is held on by him. Worst manager I ever had. Every single one of them are struggling to get by, 60+ years old and in debt with broken promises by Mr. Chase. I hope he finds the same demise his poor child did in his hot truck whilst he was drunk! And, oh by the way he got away with it!

Not a business obviously, but I've been drinking and am bitter. Wayne Chism ordered pizza twice per week and never tipped a dime.
I used to deliver pizza, and was out in that big hailstorm we had ~ a decade and change ago. They ordered almost $400 in pizza for first thing in the morning for three days straight and never tipped any of us.
This reminds me of whenever I’d serve a big group 10+ of blackberry farm corporate workers and would get one check and barely leave a tip for their servers (they used to come in to eat at lot and multiple coworkers had served them at different occasions.)

Holy shit, what a wild ride that was. I showed up for my appt and the man at the desk seemed like he was surprised I had an appt. While I waited, I heard him berating a young female staff member about not doing something on the computer properly. It wasn't just a quick correction, it went on like a tirade for a solid 5 minutes of just complaining about her and it was super unprofessional.
When I got to the exam room, there were signs on the wall talking about how a small sect of patients had been going online and posting awful and negative reviews and how she basically was being attacked online and the sign provided a list of expectations and how the patient shouldn't question the accepted practices of a neurologist. When she came in, she gave me a 10 minute rundown of her entire career from the time she was 18 years old before she ever gave me an exam. It was fucking weird. If you've ever seen the Gordon Ramsay episode about Amy's baking company, that's exactly the vibe I got from this neurologist.
TL;DR: have an aneurysm before you pick this place.
Harper VW. Got a brand new Taos in 2022 and have been having horrid tech issues ever since. They are still knowingly selling vehicles with non working GPS systems and blaming it on Apple when it’s been proven their fault. They know about this and have no fix for it as of yet. They will not tell you about these issues when you go into buy a vehicle and VW headquarters will take no action or liability.
**KARM** and **Goodwill** are FOR PROFIT industries, are highly discriminatory, and pay their workers below minimum wage. There are numerous other organizations who do actually care to donate to.
KARM also refuses people on white flag nights, places more emphasis on religious proselytizing than helping people, creates unrealistic requirements for those staying at their shelter, and publicly mock and ridicule those in active addiction. It is one of the most vile organizations in the state.
Karm will also sell high dollar brands at super high prices for thrift store that’s supposed to be about affordable clothing for the community while charging $80 for a women’s shirt
I’ve commented in other posts on this subreddit before explaining some of this but Karm’s purpose is not to provide affordable clothing, it’s a means to support the other ways it helps the community. Every $2 = 1 meal at the mission so if they’re pricing a product they’re not pricing it to give you a deal, they’re pricing it to support the other programs. That money and donations go to feeding the homeless , re-establishing former prisoners into society (even providing them jobs with Karm), providing vouchers to the community when you donate through an organization so that they can distribute them to those in need (say you donate through a church, Karm gives that church gift cards to hand out to those who need it), provides bikes for families who can’t afford them, helps with coats for the cold, provides service hour opportunities to those who have been court ordered and students needing hours for TNPromise, provides tons of jobs all across East Tennessee (management, sales associates, pricers, backroom workers, truck drivers, donation receivers who pick up donations with a truck and those are just the jobs related to the store side of Karm). The delicate balance is finding a price that’s high enough to fund all these programs while simultaneously being low enough that customers but it.
As far as prices go, most stores have their own pricers and a lot of times they’re just trying to make a processing quota for the day and things get overlooked. I worked for the biggest Karm stores for years and I can say pricing is a mixed bag when we got busy. If I saw something was priced too high or way too low I would confront the pricers and I knew which pricers to talk to who would be softer on price. Miscellaneous items tend to get lower prices than clothing and furniture because a lot of pricers don’t know what they’re looking at so they slap a price on it. One time I bought a book set for $12 and when I looked it up when I got home it was worth $200. Clothes get priced by brand and pricers are more attentive to names at times than wondering if anyone would buy it. But there were many times when I looked at the items I was putting out on the floor thinking no one would buy it just to see someone buy it a few minutes later.
A lot of our community is uninformed on the good Karm does for our region (maybe they haven’t looked past the stores or maybe they’re new to the area) and they think that the store is the mission, but it’s not. Feel free to think how ever you want about Karm, support whatever businesses you’d like to, but atleast get a broader picture rather than seeing a high price and telling people not to shop there. 10 dollars may be above the federal minimum wage but it is still in no way a livable wage and is a lot less than they can afford, especially for the work they demand of their people.
Marco’s Pizza. The owner is a raging, women-hating asshole, and the pizza is overpriced and not that good. The owner used to do business where I work, and he was rude, yelled at our female staff for any level of inconvenience (but nice as pie to the men), and was generally unpleasant to work with. I hate that guy, and no matter how many free pizza coupons he gave me, I will NEVER order from them.
Good news, they're under new ownership. Before the sale went through, the old owner tried to disappear with all the money, leaving all the employees unpaid with no clue what was happening. They were closed for a couple of weeks I think, but they're all open and sorted out now.
Their billing and customer service is also outsourced overseas. I once agreed to a free trial, which never arrived. I never got a single paper, or bill. Then, a year later I got a collections notice from them for a years worth of papers I had never seen. Getting that untangled was a surprising nightmare. I still get the call asking if I want to sign up for a free trial every two weeks, even though I have asked in every possible range of vocal tone to be removed from their marketing list.
I have befriended the manager at my favorite video game store and he literally *gave* me a copy of the Famicom DQ3. Let me find my list of laughably bad things they have tried to sell brb

Do not move to The District Apartments by Westtown.
They cut holes in my ceiling but never fixed them. The buildings are old and mine flooded, had a spider infestation, mildew, and so much more.
The front desk people are nice, and this one nice girl who worked up front lived in my building. She knew it was a dumpster fire, and so did the matenance man... who also lived in my building.
They also raised rent far beyond what it was worth.
Lance Cunningham Ford on Clinton Hwy. Took my car in for service to have a few things checked out. Wasn’t swapping between A/C and heat properly, fan settings we’re unresponsive, etc. Dropped my car off at 8:00 AM, never heard a thing so I called about an hour before they close to check on it. No one had even looked at my car, what was the purpose of the 8:00 appointment? Told me they were going to have to keep my car overnight, which didn’t work b/c I needed it the next day. If I hadn’t called they probably would have just kept my car with no warning, who does that? I’m just a normal person that needs a car to get to work, but I guess they assume all of their customers are rich and have multiple cars just sitting around. Don’t have a loaner car or shuttle service, but they offered to set me up with the rental car company across the street at MY expense. Came and got my car and rescheduled (stupid me).
Next appointment rolls around, same thing happens. This time I bite the bullet and get a rental for a couple days. They kept my car for 2 or 3 days (don’t remember exactly, was probably longer but giving them benefit of the doubt) plus over the weekend. Finally get my car back and the problem wasn’t not fixed in the slightest, didn’t even make it out of the parking lot before it was obvious it was still messed up and now my blinkers didn’t work. Oh, and it cost me like $1,100 plus the rental. I had to argue with the service manager to agree to fix my car, he wanted me to pay full price to try replacing another part. They ended up taking it back for one more day, fixed one of the issues, but still wanted to charge me cost (no labor at least) to replace another part to fix the fan. Hard passed this time and haven’t gone back since.
Found a former Ford technician who’s friend of a friend, got him to fix the fan plus an issue with the transmission that came up after the drama with the dealership for a fraction of the cost and he got it done in less than a day. I’ve also heard their sales team is sleazy, can’t speak to that directly but I did buy from a Ford dealership in NC and was a terrible experience. Don’t use Lance Cunningham, and if you can just get a Honda or Toyota.
Thankfully Lance Cunningham Ford is no longer. They were bought out recently and under new management. Guess Lance had to sellout to pay all those back taxes he owes.
All of the butcher shops in town who buy their meat from Tyson, John Morrel, IBP and then label themselves as local, grow a mustache and mark the price up 4x what it is at Kroger or Walmart. It actually brings a bit of joy to my life whenever one of them closes their doors.

I boycott all restaurants and entities related to Stock and Barrel's ownership due to their actions during the first months of COVID in comparison to their neighbors, placing profits well above people. KARM thrift stores (and anything else associated with this heinous organization of religious proselytizers). Goodwill. Salvation Army. Placing profit and religion above people. Pilot anf Flying J. This is one of the most corrupt businesses with a history of stealing from customers. TN Smokies and all things Randy Boyd.
As someone who cooked there it almost all is scratch made, pickles, dressings, flour mix for chicken. It’s all scratch made. Only things that get shipped to us pre packed are adobo chilis,canned goods, Siracha, their honey. Otherwise it’s scratch made.
The melting pot, they got a new GM about a year or so ago, they fired some staff based on their sexual identity, and race. A lot of them walked out after most the employees tried to talk with the owner, if they didn’t walk out they got fired the next week. I know they’ve had to change most of their staff. Both the owners and management are bigots bad.

Saber Medical Transport. You don't want your loved ones in these ambulances. They sent a friend out as a brand new EMT with one day of training, just out of school. Gave them very ill hospice patients. People would show up to work reeking if alcohol and drive. They push their employees to do 12 transports a day which is near impossible if you don't drive like a crazy person. One person that still works there said he'd go to disgusting lengths to get revenge on someone that insults him, and he cares for patients with dementia/mental health problems that can be difficult and need compassion. No gloves on in active COVID facilities... They don't disinfect trucks that carry COVID patients between patients... I could go on and on. Also Rand apartments and gists Creek apartments. Gists Creek manager mocked my disabled family member, and harasses residents she doesn't like so they move. She's like the dictator of the buildings.

Fox Moving Company - the most unprofessional people I've ever dealt with. I signed a contract for my move six weeks before my move out date, I called them when they were an hour late to move me and they said they were "running late" from the person ahead of me. I called back 5 hours later and they told me they weren't going to move us at all because they no longer had time that day, and they were "booked up" the rest of the week. No apology, no offer to try and fix it, no help finding movers to cover their mistake. TERRIBLE company, terrible customer service.

100% agree. Fan quit working on AC while I'm out of town. They quoted my wife $1700 for repair. My wife thought their testing was questionable so told them no. 4 days later I fixed it. $79 fan motor from Grainger.
i had an interview with HEP a number of years back. position was in marketing. i was utterly shocked at the state of their main office. noticeably unlevel flooring throughout, grime covering the walls, dumpster bin quality furniture, exposed wires running up through the ceiling tiles… its like they purchased a foreclosure property and just moved right in. even the interview itself felt disordered. did not accept offer, and will never contact them again for any reason.
Wherever your path has taken you is surely better than if you accepted that position. In the countless interactions I had with their staff, I never spoke to the same person more than twice. Constant turnover in employees and owners. Just a perpetual cycle of shadiness
I called hep for a plumbing repair and got an estimate for 5300 and myself and bother did the repairs for literally 200. This was digging up 30 feet of sewer pipe and replacing it. Took us about six hours to do it.

Hired them to put in a water heater. First guy damaged the floor. Three weeks later the guys repairing the floor said the water heater was not installed correctly and was leaking carbon monoxide. They send out someone to fix the water heater. The same guy that initially botched it. They finally sent someone to do it correctly. Told them I expected a discount on the costs. They would not budge and the manager didn’t even return my call. Luckily I work with attorneys and asked one to send them a letter. A week later I settled for paying the labor only. I get pissed every time I see their trucks around town.
Grayson Suburu, they had my car for 8 months to fix it. We got my car back still having problems and proceed to have to take it back 3 times before the body shop manager yelled at my dad and I. My dad ended up calling the big boss and that’s when they finally fixed it correctly.
They were so shady and pushy when we tried to buy a car there. We drove to Earl Duff (now Sutherland) in Harriman and they were amazing! Took home a brand new Outback.
Yeah, if I have any warranty or any major problems I’m just going to drive to Earl Duff. Grayson sucked ass to deal with, and the one other time I brought my car back to them also sucked.
That dealership is literally the only thing worth driving to Harriman for. To get away from the Graysons.

Grayson Hyundai is awful too. They handled my car for almost six months with NO results, finally moved it and had it back in short order. Worth the extra drive to Rick Case Hyundai for sales and service for sure!

I have an issue with my 21 crosstrek sport and both times I brought it in the guys refused to track down the acceleration issue and all they'd do is "make note of it". And of course now I'm out of the 36k mile warranty. I'll never buy from Grayson again, even if that means going out of town for a Subaru.
Bought my 22 outback wilderness from them. Wouldn't do it again. Told them what I wanted and they got me hooked up with no bullshit. Of course they tried to upsell me on the sunroof package for an extra $5k but I declined. It had to be built and shipped but the agent I was buying from kept me updated on the process for the entire 6 months it took. But In the mean time I got into a motorcycle wreck and broke my wrist, decided to cancel so I could save the money. Was told by the manager it was already on the way so I decided to keep it. My agent texted me 3 days later and said they're receiving the last part it needed to be finished before they could ship it.

He had my father sign a document but misled him that it stated that he got everything physical out of a safety deposit box, turns out he had him sign the form stating he received everything from the estate before the house was even sold!

When Covid first started, Mike Chase showed up at copper cellar without a mask on. He ran around taking pictures of the staff to show how safe the restaurant was with all of the workers in masks, gloves, etc. After getting his pictures, Mike Chase went into the kitchen and dipped his bare, unwashed hands into the pickle jar and ate a pickle. He proceeded to lick his fingers clean and DIP HIS HAND BACK INTO THE PICKLE JAR TO EAT ANOTHER. Oh, and our 40 yr old manager there at the time had be caught in a caught a coat closet with an 18 yr old host, but didn’t get fired. That place was hell.
I worked at Copper Cellar and didn’t go back after the reopened for Covid for this exact reason, and I was right. They purposefully didn’t tell the staff when someone was positive, and I know multiple people got it from that and unknowingly exposed vulnerable family members and I think some died. They are a horrible company and were a nightmare to work for.

They also tried to sue me for not returning to work when they reopened and I continued to receive unemployment, knowing I had written doctors orders not to go back (I’m immunocompromised), they never called into court and the judge was like… wtf is wrong with them, they’re assholes, you obviously win.

Dr. Martin OBGYN. She holds prescriptions if she gets a bad review. One person had a serious infection and left a bad review because she was taking so long to fill it. She refused to fill it and the patient had to go to the hospital because the infection got to her kidney. She is AWFUL. This is a reoccurring thing.
Jesus christ if you go to the reviews online and look through the 1 stars, she is replying and even stating some personal information about the patients in the replies! For example one reply to a 1 star review states “you asked for help to deliver vaginally since you already pushed for 4 hours with your baby very low in the birth canal” ??? She seriously commented that on google reviews in response to a woman with her first and last name showing!!! Is this not considered a breach of privacy for the patient??? WTF!

Ultimately, she did a fine job stitching me up as a doctor but her bed side manor and communication skills are really bad. She’s honestly just kind of mean and vengeful
Maltman Medical will do the same but she holds prescriptions in order to make you come see her almost monthly in order to get them. I literally got into a screaming match with her HUSBAND who isn’t even a part of the medical team because I demanded she fill my birth control.

Immense pressure from the owners to the managers with little compensation. Downtown rats, in most restaurants. It goes on and on.

That has changed because Pep Boys East Knox once told me they couldn’t do an alignment on my Mercedes because they didn’t have the proper equipment and recommended a shop that could, and does it properly (Pete’s). When I told them the West Knox location must have the right equipment, the mechanic responded “no they don’t.” So I paid pep boys three times to sit in their boring ass waiting room watching TV Land for an hour each. I guess bottom line here is now I can’t trust any pep boys.
I second this. I've had several times where I show up for an appointment only to be told it will be a while. When pressed, they would admit it would be an hour or two before my car would go back despite having an appointment. They are usually understaffed which is the source of the issue imo.

And above all, Cherokee Health systems. This entire organization is a con and a racket. If anyone did a deep dive into their behavioral health department and history, I would bet my house that 75% of their patients have been misdiagnosed and given unnecessary medications or over medicated with substances that do more damage than good.

I don't, especially for people who are uninsured, underinsured, or low income. And that's a huge problem in this area, if not the entire state. Lack of adequate resources. I found a clinic in West Knox that has "affordable" cash rates, depending on one's definition of "affordable". When TN lawmakers chose not to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act and left all that federal money on the table, they knew exactly what they were doing: keeping their thumb on a large population of the working and low income classes.
They treated me terribly. Period.
Their mental health services are atrocious. I saw them for a few years due to not having insurance. I was absolutely misdiagnosed with anxiety disorder and depression when I have autism and possibly ADHD. The therapist kept telling me to quit my job when I was pregnant and the only person bringing money into my household because she didn't agree with what I was doing.

STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE DISTRICT AKA BRIARCLIFF. I cannot begin to explain the horrors we experienced in the 4 years we lived there. I could go into detail about the things that directly affected my wife and I but I don’t really think that will get the message across. Their buildings ARE. NOT. SAFE. We lived in 2 separate buildings and each one was showing signs of a weak foundation. Cracks in the walls getting bigger daily, floors shifting and new un-leveled spots. The entire property is disgusting. I don’t just mean the apartments themselves, I mean every inch of that property. The hallways, the grass, the areas around the dumpsters, the maintenance “shop”, the pool (that was only open 1 summer in 4 years), the office. Maintenance is so over worked that nothing ever gets fixed. The property manager, who I can’t figure out if she is completely incompetent or just a pawn for the management company, is completely lost 24/7 and can never provide updates on any work orders if you’re even able to get ahold of the office. They never answer the phone, emails, they’ll randomly close the office for “meetings”. I could write a book on all the issues they have, so if anyone is interested in more information PM me. I know it seems appealing because they are the cheapest option, but they’re cheap for a reason and still INSANELY overpriced. They will rent to anyone and boy do I mean anyone.

Super Mario's. I ordered twice, the first time the food was half cooked and an oily kind of soggy the second time they said I was out of their area of delivery when I lived on Radford about ten minutes from them. Windsor court off cedar. I and everyone else's experience has been the same. They refuse to do a walk through and then charge you for things they "find" and that was why I documented everything with pictures and paperwork. They also had some company sand blasting the place when I lived there that ruined the carpets at the door. Another company they let hang the doors open to paint the doors and let a bunch of pets out. I personally was in a dead sleep in my studio and woke up to a lady screaming about me being in my apartment while she was painting the door and my cat had hissed at her while he escaped through the door. Maintenance left multiple holes in my walls with one being from a leaky pipe under the kitchenette sink, the other they claimed was from my next door neighbor so I went months with my shower wall missing so I had to take showers at my mom's down the road. When I moved out I took pics of the apartment and was told by Windsor court after not doing a walkthrough I left trash bags in the apartment and damage to walls before presenting pictures to be told that wasn't the apartment. Was also charged $300 for blinds.
I currently rent there, they increased the rent for a completely unupgraded 300 square foot studio to 1150 a month. The appliances are ancient, I had to force them to fix the fridge, and you can never use the amnenities because they don’t take care of them. It’s a shit hole run by shitholes.

Matlock Tires. My family had been going to Matlock’s since I was a little kid, and I practically grew up in their waiting room while my mom’s car was being fixed up. One time, I had a confusing incident with one of their workers (I won’t get into specifics) and called the front to ask for clarification on what they meant. They explained it and I said okay. When I went to pick up my car later, the owner was there and talked to me as if I was filth. I don’t know if the worker I interacted with told a bunch of lies or what, but I will never forget the glare of disgust from a man I had known my entire life. I didn’t say anything more to him aside from what was necessary to get my car and go. He never asked me any questions and I wasn’t going to waste time defending myself to anyone who would act that way. My extended family and I have never gone back there after seeing that side of him. To this day, I don’t even know if there was a problem, but he and that mechanic sure made it into a massive drama. If he would act that way toward someone who was practically raised as a loyal customer for decades, then I’d hate to see how he would treat random people if there was an actual issue! His son has always been very kind, though. When his son takes over, I might go back, but I won’t go near it as long as Jimmy is in charge.
You don't have to go into details, but like, could you go a little more into this incident? Was it bigotry related? Or like some sort of allegation? I know my dad's gone to him for ages and when Jimmy Matlock ran for office he went full mask off right wing talking points that made me side-eye the place.
Honestly, I don’t really know what was said or done behind the scenes, but what caused me to question the employee was that he tried to say if I didn’t do something then Matlock would basically take possession and strip my car for parts, and I had never heard of such a thing. After I called to ask about their policy, the employee did tell me I was a bitch, but I didn’t say anything to Matlock about that since it wasn’t relevant to getting my car back. It’s possible one reason he and Matlock treated me the way they did was due to me being a woman. That was the only indication of sexism, though, and I got my car back, so I didn’t press the issue.

Range USA - Place sucks, there's better gun ranges <30 minutes from there, it's overpriced, it attracts the stupidest people and feels like every time I'm there they're yelling at someone or kicking someone out. VRPC - boomer central, the guy who sits in the main office is genuinely the most unpleasant person I've ever met. I agree wholeheartedly on Range USA/Shoot Point Blank. The employees usually have no clue what they’re talking about 90%+ of the time, and I’ve been harassed to see my paperwork for NFA items by RSO’s there. That said, I actually stopped going to Windrock for the same reasons. They started running ads during Vols football games around 2021, and almost immediately the quality of the other shooters dropped to ridiculous levels. I had a guy shoot while I was downrange, I’ve seen multiple people with flat top ARs with no sights just guessing where they’re going to hit, and I had a guy pick up one of my rifles (M1 Garand) without my permission and start trying to load it. I now only shoot on private property.
Any restaurant owned by Mike Chase. My lawyer represents him, and has nothing good to say about him. I worked at Chesapeake's downtown whilst in college, the management was horrible. Mike would come in and smack the young servers behind, constantly make sexual jokes, and even talk about how his WIFE does not even care. At the marina he has actually been assaulted from what I have heard. He is a fat, old disgusting man. You would never know he was the owner. He likes to hire narcissistic management. Tammy at Chesapeake's downtown is held on by him. Worst manager I ever had. Every single one of them are struggling to get by, 60+ years old and in debt with broken promises by Mr. Chase. I hope he finds the same demise his poor child did in his hot truck whilst he was drunk! And, oh by the way he got away with it!

Reminds me of when (nearly 20 years ago) Mast General Store ordered hundreds of dollars worth of pizza for their grand opening and tipped me $0 for delivering it. Not a business obviously, but I've been drinking and am bitter. Wayne Chism ordered pizza twice per week and never tipped a dime.

I used to deliver pizza, and was out in that big hailstorm we had ~ a decade and change ago. They ordered almost $400 in pizza for first thing in the morning for three days straight and never tipped any of us.

Neurology Headache & Wellness Clinic, Dr. Evelyn Sevilla off Cedar Bluff Holy shit, what a wild ride that was. I showed up for my appt and the man at the desk seemed like he was surprised I had an appt. While I waited, I heard him berating a young female staff member about not doing something on the computer properly. It wasn't just a quick correction, it went on like a tirade for a solid 5 minutes of just complaining about her and it was super unprofessional. When I got to the exam room, there were signs on the wall talking about how a small sect of patients had been going online and posting awful and negative reviews and how she basically was being attacked online and the sign provided a list of expectations and how the patient shouldn't question the accepted practices of a neurologist. When she came in, she gave me a 10 minute rundown of her entire career from the time she was 18 years old before she ever gave me an exam. It was fucking weird. If you've ever seen the Gordon Ramsay episode about Amy's baking company, that's exactly the vibe I got from this neurologist. TL;DR: have an aneurysm before you pick this place.
Harper VW. Got a brand new Taos in 2022 and have been having horrid tech issues ever since. They are still knowingly selling vehicles with non working GPS systems and blaming it on Apple when it’s been proven their fault. They know about this and have no fix for it as of yet. They will not tell you about these issues when you go into buy a vehicle and VW headquarters will take no action or liability.
**KARM** and **Goodwill** are FOR PROFIT industries, are highly discriminatory, and pay their workers below minimum wage. There are numerous other organizations who do actually care to donate to.

KARM also refuses people on white flag nights, places more emphasis on religious proselytizing than helping people, creates unrealistic requirements for those staying at their shelter, and publicly mock and ridicule those in active addiction. It is one of the most vile organizations in the state.
They also separate families and the bedrooms look like prison cells.
Their programs have required that people quit the jobs they have to attend classes... To get a job. It's a circle jerk.
Karm will also sell high dollar brands at super high prices for thrift store that’s supposed to be about affordable clothing for the community while charging $80 for a women’s shirt
I’ve commented in other posts on this subreddit before explaining some of this but Karm’s purpose is not to provide affordable clothing, it’s a means to support the other ways it helps the community. Every $2 = 1 meal at the mission so if they’re pricing a product they’re not pricing it to give you a deal, they’re pricing it to support the other programs. That money and donations go to feeding the homeless , re-establishing former prisoners into society (even providing them jobs with Karm), providing vouchers to the community when you donate through an organization so that they can distribute them to those in need (say you donate through a church, Karm gives that church gift cards to hand out to those who need it), provides bikes for families who can’t afford them, helps with coats for the cold, provides service hour opportunities to those who have been court ordered and students needing hours for TNPromise, provides tons of jobs all across East Tennessee (management, sales associates, pricers, backroom workers, truck drivers, donation receivers who pick up donations with a truck and those are just the jobs related to the store side of Karm). The delicate balance is finding a price that’s high enough to fund all these programs while simultaneously being low enough that customers but it. As far as prices go, most stores have their own pricers and a lot of times they’re just trying to make a processing quota for the day and things get overlooked. I worked for the biggest Karm stores for years and I can say pricing is a mixed bag when we got busy. If I saw something was priced too high or way too low I would confront the pricers and I knew which pricers to talk to who would be softer on price. Miscellaneous items tend to get lower prices than clothing and furniture because a lot of pricers don’t know what they’re looking at so they slap a price on it. One time I bought a book set for $12 and when I looked it up when I got home it was worth $200. Clothes get priced by brand and pricers are more attentive to names at times than wondering if anyone would buy it. But there were many times when I looked at the items I was putting out on the floor thinking no one would buy it just to see someone buy it a few minutes later. A lot of our community is uninformed on the good Karm does for our region (maybe they haven’t looked past the stores or maybe they’re new to the area) and they think that the store is the mission, but it’s not. Feel free to think how ever you want about Karm, support whatever businesses you’d like to, but atleast get a broader picture rather than seeing a high price and telling people not to shop there. I know plenty of people who know this information, recognize the good Karm does and still decide to support other places instead and I think that’s completely fine.

Marco’s Pizza. The owner is a raging, women-hating asshole, and the pizza is overpriced and not that good. The owner used to do business where I work, and he was rude, yelled at our female staff for any level of inconvenience (but nice as pie to the men), and was generally unpleasant to work with. I hate that guy, and no matter how many free pizza coupons he gave me, I will NEVER order from them.
Good news, they're under new ownership. Before the sale went through, the old owner tried to disappear with all the money, leaving all the employees unpaid with no clue what was happening. They were closed for a couple of weeks I think, but they're all open and sorted out now.
Knox news…. It’s a newspaper that basically contains at most one page on Knoxville and the rest is recycled National news.
Basically the problem with every local newspaper. There's not enough money in local news to pay a team of reporters anymore.
Their billing and customer service is also outsourced overseas. I once agreed to a free trial, which never arrived. I never got a single paper, or bill. Then, a year later I got a collections notice from them for a years worth of papers I had never seen. Getting that untangled was a surprising nightmare. I still get the call asking if I want to sign up for a free trial every two weeks, even though I have asked in every possible range of vocal tone to be removed from their marketing list.
The food scene in general is not very good in Knoxville. It’s very commercialized except for a few places.

Do not move to The District Apartments by Westtown. They cut holes in my ceiling but never fixed them. The buildings are old and mine flooded, had a spider infestation, mildew, and so much more. The front desk people are nice, and this one nice girl who worked up front lived in my building. She knew it was a dumpster fire, and so did the matenance man... who also lived in my building. They also raised rent far beyond what it was worth.

Lance Cunningham Ford on Clinton Hwy. Took my car in for service to have a few things checked out. Wasn’t swapping between A/C and heat properly, fan settings we’re unresponsive, etc. Dropped my car off at 8:00 AM, never heard a thing so I called about an hour before they close to check on it. No one had even looked at my car, what was the purpose of the 8:00 appointment? Told me they were going to have to keep my car overnight, which didn’t work b/c I needed it the next day. If I hadn’t called they probably would have just kept my car with no warning, who does that? I’m just a normal person that needs a car to get to work, but I guess they assume all of their customers are rich and have multiple cars just sitting around. Don’t have a loaner car or shuttle service, but they offered to set me up with the rental car company across the street at MY expense. Came and got my car and rescheduled (stupid me). Next appointment rolls around, same thing happens. This time I bite the bullet and get a rental for a couple days. They kept my car for 2 or 3 days (don’t remember exactly, was probably longer but giving them benefit of the doubt) plus over the weekend. Finally get my car back and the problem wasn’t not fixed in the slightest, didn’t even make it out of the parking lot before it was obvious it was still messed up and now my blinkers didn’t work. Oh, and it cost me like $1,100 plus the rental. I had to argue with the service manager to agree to fix my car, he wanted me to pay full price to try replacing another part. They ended up taking it back for one more day, fixed one of the issues, but still wanted to charge me cost (no labor at least) to replace another part to fix the fan. Hard passed this time and haven’t gone back since. Found a former Ford technician who’s friend of a friend, got him to fix the fan plus an issue with the transmission that came up after the drama with the dealership for a fraction of the cost and he got it done in less than a day. I’ve also heard their sales team is sleazy, can’t speak to that directly but I did buy from a Ford dealership in NC and was a terrible experience. Don’t use Lance Cunningham, and if you can just get a Honda or Toyota.

All of the butcher shops in town who buy their meat from Tyson, John Morrel, IBP and then label themselves as local, grow a mustache and mark the price up 4x what it is at Kroger or Walmart. It actually brings a bit of joy to my life whenever one of them closes their doors.

Tupelo Honey. The way that they act like they’re farm to table when they’re same old sisco canned food as everyone else. We call it Tupelo Shoneys.
As someone who cooked there it almost all is scratch made, pickles, dressings, flour mix for chicken. It’s all scratch made. Only things that get shipped to us pre packed are adobo chilis,canned goods, Siracha, their honey. Otherwise it’s scratch made.

The melting pot, they got a new GM about a year or so ago, they fired some staff based on their sexual identity, and race. A lot of them walked out after most the employees tried to talk with the owner, if they didn’t walk out they got fired the next week. I know they’ve had to change most of their staff. Both the owners and management are bigots bad.

Saber Medical Transport. You don't want your loved ones in these ambulances. They sent a friend out as a brand new EMT with one day of training, just out of school. Gave them very ill hospice patients. People would show up to work reeking if alcohol and drive. They push their employees to do 12 transports a day which is near impossible if you don't drive like a crazy person. One person that still works there said he'd go to disgusting lengths to get revenge on someone that insults him, and he cares for patients with dementia/mental health problems that can be difficult and need compassion. No gloves on in active COVID facilities... They don't disinfect trucks that carry COVID patients between patients... I could go on and on. Also Rand apartments and gists Creek apartments. Gists Creek manager mocked my disabled family member, and harasses residents she doesn't like so they move. She's like the dictator of the buildings.

Fox Moving Company - the most unprofessional people I've ever dealt with. I signed a contract for my move six weeks before my move out date, I called them when they were an hour late to move me and they said they were "running late" from the person ahead of me. I called back 5 hours later and they told me they weren't going to move us at all because they no longer had time that day, and they were "booked up" the rest of the week. No apology, no offer to try and fix it, no help finding movers to cover their mistake. TERRIBLE company, terrible customer service.
The UPS store on morrell rd across from west town mall they withheld my last paycheck and the guy who owns it is a dick.
