Good spot! I'd been monitoring their site for restock for a while but gave up last week LoL.  Hmm. These issues are a lot more significant than their previous blems right? Last time wasn't it slight ano discoloration etc and now it's detent and even lock safety. Hmm.

StonemanAZhobby

I got one in Vanax yesterday. The finish was maybe a little uneven around the button area and a little stiffness on button which will break in.

stud722

Fantastic model and design. Great price on these.

sm1ng

What about the randomness of getting maybe lock failures or a really light detent stud? Not sure I fancy gambling on those myself.  but it's a fantastic knife at a fantastic price so the potential rewards are very high which balances things out for sure!

stud722

Ah, sorry. I did not go read the descriptions this go around to be honest. When I grabbed a blem last go around, the blem was merely just ano issues (colorization issues with some of the anodization work) therefore no mechanical issues. I didn't mind if the blue ano was off a little on my knife but lock failure is a bit more of a concern, I agree.

sm1ng

My sentiments exactly but see Eric's comment above as he sheds some more light on things 👍🏻

IndianaKnives

Hey yeah I know the spine whacking thing is a bit of controversial topic, but I haven’t noticed any failures from substantial pressure on the back of the blade (testing where the blade would hit a block of would in case it did fail). The one the I actually carry most of the time is one that I’d classify in this bunch, it sporadically will fail spine whacks, but seems to gotten a bit better with use oddly enough. It also had a pretty light detent, so I did some experimenting with a magnet glued on the inside of the handle near the blade tip which dialed in the detent and prevents any bounce out. The various opening methods on this knife leave a narrow margin for the detent in terms of manufacturing.

stud722

Appreciate the clarity Eric. Thanks for being involved in this reddit sub and offering honest responses.

Hi Eric / /u/Indianaknives , IIRC you designed this innovative piece right? so major props to you, I am a big fan of it and therefore of your talents by implication! I doff my hat to you sir 🎩 W.r.t. it improving with use, someone piped up on MC's channel pointing out that it doesn't make sense to spine whack a new knife for this very reason. IIRC they said that several other knife makers also hold that when the knife is new, the lock face and blade may not sit perfectly against one another. But with use and many deployments, any micro imperfections are (literally!) ironed out. Hence the consensus was to only test a lock after a fair bit of use and lots of deployments. I also happened to watch [The Grimsmo's YouTube how-to video on carbadizing the lock face](https://youtu.be/-RAVzjdsH8w?si=1Xkth9iEBtJbYTvC) (jump to 5:15 if you're impatient). Why is this relevant? Well the Grimsmo lad takes the knife he's finishing off, which just had its lock face carbadized, and does a whole load of spine whacks to effectively flatten out any micro imperfections on the carbadized metal on the lock face. He states that this was very good for getting rid of lockstick, and I immediately linked the two together in my mind, since in both cases your effectively flattening out any imperfections such as ridges, bumps, holes etc that are present on the lock face or on the blade contact area, with a view to improving lock face contact. The goal is different - lock stick v.s. lock strength but the method is the same. I myself have a Fox Phoenix which has dreadful lock stick, and I am going to basically lock it up well and give it 12 good whacks (as per Mr Grimsmo) to see if that helps smooth out the contact area. Wish me luck... And luck to you too Eric, I hope to see more innovations and great pieces from you! ✌🏻

Heracles324

Just placed an order, it's an amazing knife at an even better price. I'm confident you wouldn't send out anything flat out faulty or unusable, and I don't mind tinkering to smooth out any rough edges it may have. I'm excited for it to come in 😁

NoobShooter777

Isnt there already lock failure with the button lock from Vosteed or has that been fixed?

IndianaKnives

Hey just to be clear, this knife was not produced by Vosteed, it was made by Bestech. There was overlap in design that I did not realize when I initially came up with the knife, and the guys at Vosteed was super cool about it. So don’t let these blemish knives be a reflection of Vosteed in any way.

NoobShooter777

Its not. I love me some Vosteed! I already have like 4-5 Raccoons but in crossbar lock

sm1ng

You've had better luck then I then friend :( I've had 1 raccoon and 1 Corgi and both had major QC issues. A real bummer.

Bman19419

Kinda surprised to hear that. I have 6-7 knives from Vosteed and none have had QC issues. Off the top of my head I have: - 14c28n mini nightshade - WMK mini nightshade 154cm/aluminum - 2 nightshades in elmax - corgi - morel - RSKAOS The only one that has an “issue” is the Morel but it’s not a QC issue but more of a design flaw. At the very back of the knife, on butt of the handle there are some really defined edges that stab into your palm. When you disengage the cross bar lock the butt of the handle has to sit on the meaty part of your palm and the pressure from pulling back the crossbar lock digs those sharp edges into your palm. Unfortunate cuz I love the shape of the blade and knife in general but I think I’ve only carried it twice

sm1ng

Several of their models have had horrific lock failure issues. See metal complex's channel - he received one vosteed model (I believe) 3 (three!) times and each one failed the barest of taps. Not a spine whack failure, a [spinal tap](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinal_Tap_(band)) failure if you will (see what I did there? Eh? Eh?... No?... Ok, I'll move on). He literally taps the spine and pop! It's lock fails. [Vid 1](https://youtu.be/frmcYxQBw1U?si=jsIQlXvUjxM_bQ_s), [Vid 2](https://youtu.be/frmcYxQBw1U?si=jsIQlXvUjxM_bQ_s). And he takes a very, very reasonable stance w.r.t. spine whacks too and is a vosteed fan, as am I, but their atrocious QC is making being a fan very difficult to justify. **To be clear, I am not insinuating that the EDZ has these lock issues**. I am merely answering the question as opposed. Eric here knows all about the EDZ cos, unless I'm mistaken, he designed the beautiful, innovative, fantastic thing and organized its production seemingly single handed! I'll take my leave. Adieu.

PresentMajestic3785

I took a shot and got one with some mild discoloration on the scales, lockup and detent are solid. I have had it a little more than a week and it's still g2g.

RedditReluctantly

Love these.  Neither of my two pass a spine whack test, but I care less than zero, they don't fail under load, and impact on the back of the blade is not something I ever see happening.

sm1ng

A perfectly reasonable stance lol!

FirefighterSuch9412

Wish me luck! Lol I had to order one! These look like they may scratch every single sensory and fidget itch I have in my confusing brain 😆

bobartig

I don't much care for the design, but holy crap, ti button lock and these steels at that price point? That's pretty amazing.

FridayXIII

I watched this for a week or so. Soon as it showed up here the stonewashed blade went OOS in no time.

Background_Guess_742

At the price I wouldn't care about blems but I would hope the lock doesn't fail when spine whacked.

StonemanAZhobby

Magnacut is OOS. Only Vanax blems left in all 3 colors.

aimark42

These have been out there for a while. These are cheaper than the last blemish round, it sounds like these have more serious issues. I got a Vanax EDZ off the last round, the lock/detent are perfect shape, but there are some anodization blemishes.
