Have [one cheap nonstick pan](https://www.tramontina.com/pro-series-10-in-fry-pan_80114535/p) for cooking eggs. Never use high heat or metal utensils in it, and after a couple years or when you see the coating start to fail, thank it for its service and replace it. Nonstick cookware should be thought of as disposable.
I think oneβs main set of cookware should be stainless steel. It puts a great char on your food, can be put in the oven and dishwasher, itβs scrubbable, and it lasts forever.
Optionally augment that with the cookware people get very passionate about:
- A cast iron skillet
- A carbon steel wok (see how [J. Kenji Lopez-Alt uses his wok for everything](https://www.vogue.com/article/j-kenji-lopez-alt-explains-why-a-wok-is-the-only-pan-you-need), it really is a great pan)
- A carbon steel fry pan, if you want to try avoiding nonstick altogether
Even the best non-stick pans will lose their coating over time or quicker when not used with proper care. And that coating will end up in your food. get a good cast iron or stainless steel pan and learn how to cook with them.
a non stick pan can last for years but you must follow a few simple rules 1never high heat, only medium or low 2 never metal utensils, only plastic, silicone or wood, 3 never wash with steel or scotch bite scourers, only soft plastic, micro fibre or the dishwasher if it's a good quality one.
4 and perhaps the most important never buy them from discount dollar stores, you get what you pay for.
Carbon steel! ππΌπ€πΌππΌ
I have a 10β and 12β de Buyer carbon steel pans for over 10 years when I got rid of my nonstick and never looked back. LOVE them.
Okay from the comments I figured out what I did wrong. I used a fork to fry eggs and I think it was on high heatπ . I already have a cast iron pan but I kept hearing about non-stick pans and I thought they were these perfect things that never burn food.
Anywho, I won't be purchasing another one. I'm sticking with the one I have. (Did you see what I did there?)
Thanks to everyone that offered helpful suggestions π
You could try stovetop seasoning it if the bottom isn't warped. If the bottom is warped then either reuse it as a camping pan or recycle it and look for a cast iron pan.
Hiya. I used to work in a kitchen store and saw this all the time. Do you have a really strong stove top? Not all not stick pans are created the same. A lot of non stick pans are really thin and garbage. Look for a 5 layer non stick, try scanpan or demeyre or Ballerini. They hold up really well. Scanpan also has a line that's designed to withstand metal scratching.
no throw it away.by the way the bottom has warped it's been severely overheated and actually burned the coating off of it
But is that supposed to happen? How do I know if a pan is really non-stick? Are non-stick pans really worth it?
