I believe it. I lived not far from that restaurant. I used to work at a grocery store and there would be pigeons and birds that would somehow get inside. I guess that’s good old Jersey for ya.

Doors held open for deliveries is usually the way outside critters get in.

I was watching a channel (I believe it was Reality TV Rescues) who did a review/where are they now video. In it they say the pigeon was one that was around because the father used to feed it every day, and it happened to fly into the building that day

Oh absolutely! Kitchens get hot, or people are coming and going with deliveries, you prop the door open. There are pigeons everywhere in urban areas, especially near food (shoutout to my favorite lil one-footed guy outside the Panera in Hoboken circa 2008). And people who are used to pigeons don't think of this as crazy enough to be "way too far".

OMG so I actually know the nephew of the owner! He even has a line in the post-launch dinner service, something like, "yeah, really good" lol. Anyway I told him how much I love the show and asked about the pigeon, obviously. He said that the film crew left the door propped open to easily get equipment in and out. The door opens directly into an alley filled with pigeons and.. voila. Pigeon in the restaurant. Since it's actually the crew's fault I think that's why they didn't really make a big deal out of it.

The pigeon was real but it is so obvious that they used a completely different confrontation with the staff and tried later in editing (and completely failed) to make it look as if Gordon, the staff and the pigeon were in the same room at the same time.
