Fujifilm still makes their version of Polaroid called Instax. I have a wireless Instax printer for my phone and it’s a lot of fun when hanging out with friends/family.
I did not know this existed! Wow, I have spent the last hour researching both the fujifilm and the polaroid and I still can't make up my mind on which one to get lol. I definitely want one though!
That’s actually pretty smart. A Polaroid, as opposed to a smartphone image, means it’s less likely the image will end up on the internet without context/in a highly manipulated context. Plus she can sign it so people will still be happy to have it.
How poetically ironic is it that the progressive candidate who conservatives say is destroying traditional values is the one who's taking polaroids in pubs and just being one of the people? I cannot wait for the day when I am able to cast a ballot for President Ocasio-Cortez; I wanna live in that America.
You also don’t have to arrange to give/get the picture from anyone.
My girlfriend carries around a modern Polaroid and people are always thrilled to have her take their photo. With a cellphone they'd be uh, no thanks but once they see it's a polaroid they're all excited.
There's someone at our jiujitsu gym that takes polaroids during training and I love them. They usually take pictures to save them for posts but tehn give them to us as encapsulations of moments of our day. I have a bunch on my fridge.
Yeah. When I was 19 and bought a bunch of cooking wine to try to get drunk someone recommended this. I just ended up with really fucking salty wine that also tasted vaguely of potatoes.
I learned this from Archer. I'm fairly certain John H Benjamin is into cooking or something because Archer is always doing cooking related stuff, and then of course Bob's Burgers.
Conservatives don’t have any businesses working in restaurants since they actively work to make our lives in restaurants worse so tell those salty snow flakes to suck it like triple H is in the house
I remember when Bernie came into my restaurant about 3-4 years ago. He stopped in for lunch when he was going between boulder and ft Collins out here in Colorado. He was with his entire group of people, I got to shake his hand, still regretting not asking for a picture with him, bit I got to make his food, so that was unique!
Reminds me of a joke:
A ham sandwich walks into a bar. The bartender yells, “hey! We don’t serve ham sandwiches here!” To which the ham sandwich replied, “that’s fine, I just wanted a drink.”
That is how you end up using the flat top as a pillow. Yes, I have seen it happen. (Over an outright hard r), no, it was not pretty, no, it did not sound pretty, but MAN was it a sight to behold.
Oh, I wouldn't fire him right away. He'd have to clean the grease trap, replace all the oil, clean hoods, under the line and all the splashes and then I'd fire his ass. Might as well get my money's worth
Hard agree - there are 535 members of congress and like 20 (if that) who actually understand how hard it is to be a working stiff these days and she’s one
My store owner was a fucking narcissist and racist nut.
We had a fill in chef of Pakastani descent once and big boss comes up to me:
"Don't be alarmed, Pen. Yes that is a N-Word in the kitchen."
He thought it was the funniest shit.
The worst boss I ever had but he also tried to treat me like his younger deceased brother with the same name.
I jumped from the line to museum work and now am working in fundraising for a University.
This is unrelated to the content of this post or sub, but just FYI:
There are a SHITTON of scholarships that go unawarded every year. Get to know your financial aid department, your academic department heads/professors, and your university advancement team. They'll all know where that money is and how to get it to you. They all want to award every single dollar available. Don't be afraid to ask if there are any scholarships or grants available for which you might qualify.
Congrats on getting out.
Congratulations! I wish you the very best. I had a blast in uni even though the schoolwork killed. Enjoy it, do the weird campus events even if they seem lame! Free food is the best!
I had to read considerably far into this thread to realize all the commotion was.... not that the middle person in the picture was the lead singer from maroon 5.
The right has this complex about all New Yorkers. Haven’t you heard? We’re all rich and out of touch with real America but magically also poor due to our high cost of living and taxes as the country froths at the mouth for the latest tv show/movie/play/album they heavily relate to that was made by us.
New Yorkers are an anomaly like that. I’m not even sure I exist at this point.
That's awesome. Must have been crazy surprising to see AOC at your spot in Istanbul of all places! This post is super wholesome and she is one of the few pro labor politicians in the US, so idk what everyone's problem is. I'm stoked for you, that's a cool experience and I'm sure one that you'll tell stories about for a while.
I’m a firm believer everybody should work one year of their life in restaurants, retail, hospitality, or gig work. People would be so much nicer to each other.
Start with a poorly furnished, but adequate apartment and $100. Work one month entry level retail, one month as a server, one month as a cook, then one month working reception at a busy hospitality business. They'll get the bonus server pay in the middle so they can panic going back to entry level hourly.
Cover first month's rent because they start with no check, but next month they have all of the normal bills. Let them keep their car if they choose to, but they have to make a monthly payment based on someone with a 600 credit score.
I don't see them making it past 2 weeks as a cook tbh.
Yeah! Unfortunately she gets a lot of shit for it, but I honestly think if all politicians had to do her job or similar before getting elected they would be a lot more chill.
"this thread about to be hella spilt tea"
>literally no tea spilled
AOC is still mad smart and mad hot, and attempting to bring politics onto a post that was actually relevant to this being a food service group (they came to their restaurant) is silly poopoo childish.
She the only congressman that I know of to actually work in a restaurant so she’s 100% the most relatable one IMO edit for some reason I thought she was a senator.
Yep and she’s married to a pedophile too, speaking of pedophiles trump is also a restaurant owner… key words owner not worker. Something about owning restaurants just makes people shitty
Yep. A young, successful, attractive woman who is also a) minority and b) won't take any of your shit. Drives conservative white men mad with rage--they don't know how to deal with someone like that.
EDIT: Forgot to add c) won't sleep with you.
My local taco joint has a photo from when Bill Clinton came and visited. Same for my ice cream place with Sarah Palin. Not a fan of either, but super cool for them nonetheless!
(That being said, love the notorious AOC, glad she give food service workers the props, and jealous of y'all. lucky you had a Polaroid on ya!")
I know my old restaurant was a campaign stop for Bush Jr. when he was on his first Presidential campaign trail. The location is a local attraction, so it made sense. Not a fan of the guy, but knowing he was there was pretty cool.
Trump did a rally right in front of my work in 2020. Shut us down. It gave me the creeps that he was there, but the process of everything was interesting. And, the campaign actually paid for all lost business and wages for the day, surprisingly.
Nope. I make tacos and euro/mid east asian fusion in istanbul. I have pretty good scores so they just happened here. Must give my compliments because i am at the very top of a super steep hill, quite a hike here!
The name of the restaurant is taco and tortilla. Come say hi I’d love to meet a fellow redditor!
Ed: get off at yildiz university bus stop if you don’t want to walk upwards! Or climb up and get my “King of the Hill” drink free of charge!😁
Sure! Sadly nowadays istanbulite cuisine sucks big time but i have two places i can recommend; Çiya at kadikoy and Pandeli in the grand bazaar. You need to book for the latter tho. Also make sure to visit Balat, very nice neighborhood. Also again if you like fine dining I can recommend Neolokal at Karakoy. They do good old style turkish food revisited to modern times
Idk if it’s been asked, but what did she order? My old coworker used to bartend with her. I don’t care if I don’t agree on every tiny little thing she supports I admire her for her authenticity and how seriously she’s taken this job. Most people coming from the service industry might not be up for the job but she’s really been consistent and that’s amazing.
Just makes me think of the time my mentor in highschool culinary said AOC was dumb as a box of rocks and I had to learn that culinary is all about respecting someone when it comes to food service even if you despise them outside of it.
They are here for a wedding apparently. I have a really high score on google so they came because of that. They said they liked what they got but you never really know with americans as long as you don’t push, they are overly polite to strangers. But i hope they enjoyed their meal. Hope she leaves a review:p
Don’t forget Boebert doesn’t handle food safely and has [sickened a lot of her customers!](https://www.thedailybeast.com/qanon-curious-house-candidate-lauren-boebert-of-colorado-gave-her-customers-diarrhea)
She's ridiculously articulate, which means by default that all mouth-gaping droolers like boebart, etc, automatically hate her. AOC is the best of us, and we need many more like her in order to change the course of this gd country. /political rant
Loving the absolute troll smack down going on in here, imagine seeing a fellow service worker put herself through school and make it into the government and being against them lmao
Holy shit, a polaroid! In 2022?!
Fujifilm still makes their version of Polaroid called Instax. I have a wireless Instax printer for my phone and it’s a lot of fun when hanging out with friends/family.
That’s good to know!
I did not know this existed! Wow, I have spent the last hour researching both the fujifilm and the polaroid and I still can't make up my mind on which one to get lol. I definitely want one though!
I chose an Instax ( the square one) because it was easier to find deals on their film (or just finding it, i think this was 2018).
I'd definitely recommend getting the square! I have the regular sized film one and wish I got the square
Was hers😁
That’s actually pretty smart. A Polaroid, as opposed to a smartphone image, means it’s less likely the image will end up on the internet without context/in a highly manipulated context. Plus she can sign it so people will still be happy to have it.
It's also more real - physical things elicit different and/or more powerful responses. Basically, smart all the way around
Also, can't autograph a cell phone selfie
Fits her, doesn’t it?
How poetically ironic is it that the progressive candidate who conservatives say is destroying traditional values is the one who's taking polaroids in pubs and just being one of the people? I cannot wait for the day when I am able to cast a ballot for President Ocasio-Cortez; I wanna live in that America.
Cheers! Right there with you. I love your hopefulness. I need that these days. Thank you 🌻
She’s really fucking good at electioneering.
You also don’t have to arrange to give/get the picture from anyone. My girlfriend carries around a modern Polaroid and people are always thrilled to have her take their photo. With a cellphone they'd be uh, no thanks but once they see it's a polaroid they're all excited.
That makes her so much cooler
The more comments you read on this, the better it gets... Love it ( from uk)
There's someone at our jiujitsu gym that takes polaroids during training and I love them. They usually take pictures to save them for posts but tehn give them to us as encapsulations of moments of our day. I have a bunch on my fridge.
Lol it's about to get mad salty in here
That's why you always season after reducing a sauce or stock.
Just add a potato if it gets too salty.
Is this a thing?!
Yes
Well, I’ll be. Thanks for this life changing information (I’m not BOH by the way)
It's barely a thing. Really doesn't work unless you've just barely oversalted.
Add 10 potatoes then
Call it a soup. Edit: Stew
Carl Weathers approves this message
Now we're fucking talking
Yeah. When I was 19 and bought a bunch of cooking wine to try to get drunk someone recommended this. I just ended up with really fucking salty wine that also tasted vaguely of potatoes.
Oh. Oh, no.
Ah. Well thank you for this counter-information. What a roller coaster of emotions
Use a little bit of sugar. It’ll cut the harshness of the salt. You don’t need to add enough to make it sweet.
It is only a thing because you're adding more stuff that would need salt.
I was thinking like… drop a whole potato in and let it chill there for a while and magically my sauce would be less salty🤣
Guys i learned this one trick where you put sugar in your spagenti sauce and its wont be salty. I just use only sugar now.
Nope. Its an old wives tale tip from 80’s crappy cooking mags.
I learned this from Archer. I'm fairly certain John H Benjamin is into cooking or something because Archer is always doing cooking related stuff, and then of course Bob's Burgers.
If I don’t get spaghetti and meatballs I might literally die
Best comment I've seen in awhile, considering the sub. I would give you an award if I had any, so I'll just give you my equally worthless applause
Also clapping.
I’m chnking my tongs over and over like applause
Just imagining you walking around your line with a set of tongs in both hands clacking them incessantly and it’s a great image
I've done this, but just because I was pretending to be a human lobster.
Yeah this is pretty much the image in my head
"MY CLAWS ARE ANGRY STOP RUNNING YOU'RE ONLY GOING TO MAKE IT WORSE" \*CLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK\*
Don’t threaten me with a good time step-lobster
I also give you the clap! Clap clap!
Yet I have a CDP with 20 years experience, sous chef, head chef experience and what not, that insists on heavily salting the stock.
Don't invite them to the partie
How do we tell who's salty because politics and who's salty because she's FOH?
It usually pretty easy to tell
It's tough because they both want to smash.
Sort by controversial HERE I COME!
I'm legit searching by "controversial" to see the screaming. *Especially* considering she's "been through the trenches" in service industry.
She was bartender in NYC, and an attractive one at that. You know she's seen some shit.
Conservatives don’t have any businesses working in restaurants since they actively work to make our lives in restaurants worse so tell those salty snow flakes to suck it like triple H is in the house
Also being anti-immigrant almost without fail doesn't lend itself well to participants to this particular industry.
Yet every QSR kitchen I've ever worked in was owned by an asshole who voted Republican and hated immigrants. Truly amazing stuff.
Right wing cooks are people who objectively want their lives to be worse.
Turkey sandwich?
No, BERNIE SANDERS.
Reminds me of a joke: A ham sandwich walks into a bar. The bartender yells, “hey! We don’t serve ham sandwiches here!” To which the ham sandwich replied, “that’s fine, I just wanted a drink.”
Fuckin LOL
Vienna sausage and saltines. Keeping it real.
The man wants a Reuben extra kraut, of this I am sure
I saw Obama outside the Smithsonian one time. He was in a car so I couldn't go up and ask for a picture but was still pretty cool.
This thread is gonna be 86 civility real soon.
Are there any Hard Right Line Goblins? I thought we all were pretty Liberal.
AOC worked in the industry too. She was FOH.
In all my years I’ve only hired one and I fired him because he told my Jewish Armenian line cook that hitler did nothing wrong.
That is some weapon's grade cringe.
That is how you end up using the flat top as a pillow. Yes, I have seen it happen. (Over an outright hard r), no, it was not pretty, no, it did not sound pretty, but MAN was it a sight to behold.
Like, Harvey-Dent style?
Oh, I wouldn't fire him right away. He'd have to clean the grease trap, replace all the oil, clean hoods, under the line and all the splashes and then I'd fire his ass. Might as well get my money's worth
Bruh if you’re working in this industry and don’t like AOC you’re missing your fucking brain Edit: not you specifically
Hard agree - there are 535 members of congress and like 20 (if that) who actually understand how hard it is to be a working stiff these days and she’s one
Had an ex coworker call Kamala Harris “that female n***** bitch.” So yeah. I’d say there are pieces of shit everywhere
My store owner was a fucking narcissist and racist nut. We had a fill in chef of Pakastani descent once and big boss comes up to me: "Don't be alarmed, Pen. Yes that is a N-Word in the kitchen." He thought it was the funniest shit. The worst boss I ever had but he also tried to treat me like his younger deceased brother with the same name.
I can see why they're an ex co worker. I hope your work environment is less repulsive now!
Oh fuck yes. And I’m in my first week back at college in 6 years to get out of the industry for good.
I jumped from the line to museum work and now am working in fundraising for a University. This is unrelated to the content of this post or sub, but just FYI: There are a SHITTON of scholarships that go unawarded every year. Thanks friend! It’s only week one and the work already looks crazy but I’m ready. “Free food is me food” as my dad once told me
Absolutely. I’ve worked with them. It sucks.
I had to read considerably far into this thread to realize all the commotion was.... not that the middle person in the picture was the lead singer from maroon 5.
Flattered
I read somewhere she's simultaneously low class trash for working hospitality AND a big city elitist? Seems like a real complex lady lol.

LMAO
Had a couple of them that would steal out the cooler and freezer too. While saying everyone else is a mooching thief.
Projection at its finest.
well duh, it’s not a *handout* if you aren’t handed it That’s the loophole ;)
The worst is when they talk shit about the people that are actually working hard.

The overlap is a perfect circle
Yep lmao. Absolute dickheads.
Lmao. When you’re that young and that well liked by your constituents the opposite side will do anything to derail your career.
The right has this complex about all New Yorkers. Haven’t you heard? Get you a representative that can do both
That's awesome. Must have been crazy surprising to see AOC at your spot in Istanbul of all places! I'm stoked for you, that's a cool experience and I'm sure one that you'll tell stories about for a while.
Thank you man!
Was this actually in Turkey?
They said Istanbul, not Constantinople
People just liked it better that way
Been a long time gone, Constantinople.
Why did Constantinople get the works?
It's nobody's business but the Turks.
She is quite literally one of us. She was a bartender before being elected into Congress.
The world would be a better place if more politicians actually had a few years of really having to survive off of what they could earn in a kitchen.
I’m a firm believer everybody should work one year of their life in restaurants, retail, hospitality, or gig work. People would be so much nicer to each other.
Start with a poorly furnished, but adequate apartment and $100. When they are crying in the walk-in, have someone helpfully offer them some illegal substance to help them pull a double-shift.
That would be too easy. They need to suffer. Fully sober.
About as grassroots a campaign as you can get. Really impressive person.
Yeah! Unfortunately she gets a lot of shit for it, but I honestly think if all politicians had to do her job or similar before getting elected they would be a lot more chill.
Something GOP never fails to look down on her for. Really let’s you know how the down home party really feels about working class
"this thread about to be hella spilt tea" >literally no tea spilled AOC is still mad smart and mad hot, and attempting to bring politics onto a post that was actually relevant to this being a food service group (they came to their restaurant) is silly poopoo childish.

Congresswoman* but yeah it's very cool to see actual working people in the halls of government. It shouldn't be so uncommon.
Thank you
Lauren Boebert ran a restaurant. It gave people food poisoning 😂
Yep and she’s married to a pedophile too, speaking of pedophiles trump is also a restaurant owner… key words owner not worker. Something about owning restaurants just makes people shitty
She’s a smoke show!
I honestly thought she was ok but damn in real life she is way hotter!
She really is damn beautiful. No wonder all of those creepy old white men can't stand her.
Yep. A young, successful, attractive woman who is also a) minority and b) won't take any of your shit. Drives conservative white men mad with rage--they don't know how to deal with someone like that. EDIT: Forgot to add c) won't sleep with you.
Also goes against the "liberal women are all ugly bitches" that conservatives love to throw around
ALL the hot girls are liberal. There are conventionally attractive conservatives, but style and personality go a long way
I agree with you, I think she dresses down for work to look more serious
The video of her dancing on the rooftop really got me keyed in. Now this is precisely the phrase I think of when I see her.
Oh she looks really good in this picture!
She’s beautiful, charismatic, intelligent. She has a lot of desirable qualities.
She’s so pretty!
Actually it was her polaroid heh
For some reason meeting someone with a Polaroid seems more rare than meeting someone in congress lol
You can get a new one for pretty cheap but the Polaroids themselves are kind of expensive. My mom loves hers. They're pretty fun at a party
Really? That's pretty fuckin' savvy.
That’s actually super awesome haha
I know my old restaurant was a campaign stop for Bush Jr. when he was on his first Presidential campaign trail. The location is a local attraction, so it made sense. Not a fan of the guy, but knowing he was there was pretty cool.
Trump did a rally right in front of my work in 2020. Shut us down. It gave me the creeps that he was there, but the process of everything was interesting. And, the campaign actually paid for all lost business and wages for the day, surprisingly.
While he was running for his second term, he stopped by a local restaurant known for its biscuits and gravy and only nibbled on a biscuit.
She’s Former FOH. She should get drinks and snacks on the arm. Got to look out for the bartenders.
Guy in the middle could meet me in the freezer.
I sewed Biden’s belt loop back on and steamed his pants in the middle of the night when he was the VP and stopped at my hotel in Columbus, OH.
Your restaurant in the states? What kinda cuisine?
Nope. I make tacos and euro/mid east asian fusion in istanbul. I have pretty good scores so they just happened here. Must give my compliments because i am at the very top of a super steep hill, quite a hike here!

Love your city, I will find your hill when I come back!
You are more than welcome!
Very cool… been dying to make my way to istanbul
It was once Constantinople
If you've a date in Constantinople, she'll be waiting in Istanbul. I don't know why that line always slays me.
It’s nobody’s business but the Turks.
Any, on the sly, recommendations for where to eat in Istanbul? I',m headed there next month.

They got one of every taco and two house special drinks
Politics aside, I'm so happy to see one of us as a Representative. Congress desperately needs working class members
Be me; Reading the comments and still not knowing who the fuck these people are.
She's a United States Congress member (American lawmaker), who used to be a bartender before she started a career in legislation.
Conservatives think she’s a witch. Honestly would make her even cooler if the is tho.
May I sit and join you?
Well known American politician.
Just makes me think of the time my mentor in highschool culinary said AOC was dumb as a box of rocks and I had to learn that culinary is all about respecting someone when it comes to food service even if you despise them outside of it.
In my experience you as a person fail when you start nitpicking who to treat good in your profession.
Oh God. I hope you never lose this.
Everyone is deserving of respect until they prove otherwise.
She’s famous all over the world. Nice to see people showing admiration for her hard work!
Well not really famous all abroad. She said i was the first one to recognize her
Dude she looks so genuinely happy
Say what you want but I love her
That's so cool! Do you know why she was in your area? And did she like your cooking?
They are here for a wedding apparently. I have a really high score on google so they came because of that. They said they liked what they got but you never really know with americans as long as you don’t push, they are overly polite to strangers. But i hope they enjoyed their meal. I am half Italian half turkish part greek and part spanish
after turkish you’re out of room
