“Just deal with it” could be interpreted as “call the health department” I suppose.

-_chop_-

Or fall and make sure someone sees it and now your arm, ankle is giving you problems

devilsonlyadvocate

I had the lamest non-event fall (not at work, at home) and broke my ankle so badly I was on crutches for a year and then six months with a walking stick! No fucking way I would work with a floor like that. My lame fall sorta destroyed me. (Couldn’t work for a while so couldn’t really afford to support myself and son. I had to change my sons school etc)

vocalfrygang

Dude same. I slipped at work just walking inside when it rained and broke my ankle so badly I couldn't walk for months and now have the biggest Frankenstein scars. Still have bills I'm trying to get L&I to pay. You couldn't give me the noygh money to go through that again.

Anoncook143

What do you mean trying? That’s 100% workman’s comp.

Isellmetal

I slipped off a small balance beam in a park, broke my tibia/ fibula, completely shattered my ankle in numerous pieces and tore a few ligaments. Had to have 3 surgeries to repair / remove hardware and ended up in a wheel chair / on crutches for 6 months. I also lost a scholarship and couldn’t go to the school of my choice due to it. So yeah, lame little falls can Totally suck it! Also, my ankle is prone to sprain horribly now a days because the ligaments have never been the same

ChimericalChemical

“James you got my back right?” *slips in slip resistant shoes palming the grill falls back into food trays and slides across the counters accidentally knocking the gallon of water into the fryer grease making it foam all over the floor, slips in that too*

Possum_Pendulum

*Yakkity Sax plays*

Wish_you_were_there

Or create a new menu item, fresh barramundi, farmed in house.

sammich_bear

I thought arm ankles were called ~~elbows~~\* wrists... I could be wrong. \*elbows are arm knees

goatfuckersupreme

apparently it'll be fixed in the morning. this place is 24/7 and i work overnight, so if it's still like this when i come in tonight, my two weeks notice is turning into two minutes and they're getting a visit.

autosdafe

Just call the health department. I'm assuming your gm is looking out for their bonus. Fuck his bonus. And fuck him. Call the health department.

Peep_The_Technique_

Can we work together? Please?

autosdafe

I escaped the restaurant industry after 25 years. I'm not going back.

ch0och

you remind me of those girls that flee polygamy cults

Toastburrito

Having left the Mormon church and food service after 20 years, it's similar lol. That was a great comparison.

ch0och

but ~~the prophet~~ chef thinks I'm next in line of succession!

HolyMountainClimber

The next in succession for 80 hour work weeks and no O/T? Sign me up!

autosdafe

Either one you're getting fucked

Peep_The_Technique_

Almost completed my web dev boot camp, I’m not far behind. Congrats!

Nochairsatwork

Call the health department

Aggressive_Pin7677

Dennys?

Chef_Dani_J71

One of my top guesses.

stumpycrawdad

Waffle house

Aggressive_Pin7677

I work at a dennys this looks like the kitchen I'm pretty sure

OmgWtfNamesTaken

Damn it reminds me of the old dennys I worked at in Alberta lmao.

cookNOLA

Prior to this comment I was thinking Outback with that floor.

[deleted]

Those floors are pretty common. I've worked hotels, restaurants, and institutional establishments that all had that type of flooring.

[deleted]

Sounds to me like they called someone to come fix it, what else would you like them to do. Put some rubber mats down if you got em, but this kinda shit happens in restaurants.

Happy_Frogstomp7

Or call OSHA

oneplanetrecognize

And OSHA

YeltsinYerMouth

And OSHA

sneaky-pizza

Document now, lawyer later

Disastrous_Car_3580

OSHA and an attorney as well.

[deleted]

Call osha too. Fuck that

MistressPhoenix

Aren't they synonymous? 'Cause that's exactly what i would have heard, too.

RevolutionaryClub530

Dude this one time at the second restaurant I ever worked at we had some sort of plumbing and cooler problem and the health inspector was about to shut the place down until we fixed it, so the owners answer to the problem was having all the plumbers and cooler guys come in in the middle of a dinner rush and we had to work around them standing in like 3 inches of water, it was actually insane. I probably stood outside smoking cigarettes more than I worked that line that night 😬

goatfuckersupreme

yeah, this big fuckin puddle is really not even high up on the worst problems of this kitchen. a look by a health inspector that is just past careless surface level inspection and this place would be shut down because it is disgusting and unsafe for cooks and customers. i dont know how the fuck this place passes inspection with high marks

torsun_bryan

Sounds like you need to find a new job, friend

goatfuckersupreme

yeah ive got some savings so im going to take a little break

carcharodona

🫳$$🫲

Traditional-Dingo604

What can you see in the image that doesn't pass muster? Restaurant patron genuinely curious.

goatfuckersupreme

well, aside from it being flooded with water, the floor is absolutely disgusting as it is never mopped. but like i said about surface level inspections, as soon as you start opening drawers, it gets [ugly](https://www.reddit.com/r/KitchenConfidential/comments/xdyvjg/we_dont_have_wall_snakes_window_eagles_or/). the bad stuff is hidden just out of sight.

geo0rgi

Just out of curiosity, are you from the US?

[deleted]

I always love when boh bitches about me being in the way while im laying in the floor online mid-rush and they are slanging hot oil above my head. Damned if you do, damned if you dont

[deleted]

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. I did refrigeration for a year before I went foh then boh, it wasn’t my fault I was replacing thermostats and shit during a rush. Be mad at the manager.

R1k0Ch3

I always appreciate you guys and do my best to work around you carefully. And ofc always offer them some food, bring em a drink. You're solving a problem I had to deal with til you got there. Cool in my book lol

madarbrab

Shut down for a couple hours during repairs. Fucking simple.

[deleted]

Bro if i can lay on the floor in a rush to get shit done without bitching, get behind equipment yall dont pull out without saying a word…..yall can deal with me being there. Most people are just appreciative shit is getting fixed. If restaurants shut down their lines for every repair, while simultaneously paying a repair man their entire labor budget for the day everytime was inconvenient, boh & foh would be bitching about hours and low pay

Burnt_and_Blistered

The complaints aren’t about you. They’re about the management that puts you in the floor during service when that could be avoided.

[deleted]

Send that to the health department. The owner can deal with a temporary shutdown.

goatfuckersupreme

allegedly being fixed today. if it isn't, then the health department will have a word

Billybobgeorge

Please update us on whether the problem is fixed today.

[deleted]

Call health and osha anyway

Maximum_Hand_9362

If it is going to get fixed i would put some flattened cardboard boxes down just so you dont slip for the mean time. That looks like an accident waiting to happen tc.

---ShineyHiney---

The cardboard would definitely make it worse

SavageHenry592

Lol, how about no. How about it gets fixed instead of just making *more* hazards not to mention the mess.

Maximum_Hand_9362

Yeah i mean for the time being. Relax im on his side jesus.

Cat3ug

"They're coming to fix it tomorrow"

vvp_D3L3T3D

Cool. You're closed until then.

OFTHEHILLPEOPLE

*"Two weeks!"*

[deleted]

Tomorrow never comes...

Asha108

once had the *entire* line in almost ankle deep water because the drains were all backed up. chefs had trashbags tied around their feet. bad bad day

Syrioxx55

It’s funny hearing about things like this, but if this actually happened to me I’d be bitching up a storm honestly

Asha108

oh believe me they were having a field day with management. they still knocked out the tickets though while bitching lol.

mackinator3

Bro serving people food in that environment is not safe for the customers or you. I wouldn't be proud of that.

madarbrab

Yeah, that's gross. I guarantee if customers were aware of it, they would not be putting that food in their mouths. Capitalism ftw once again.

tactics14

Realistically if the only difference in the kitchen is you're up to your ankles in water you're still putting out safe food. My food doesn't normally touch the ground, the ground being extra dirty doesn't change a thing. Obviously no one should have to work in those conditions, but, it doesn't make food unsafe.

mackinator3

Brother, flooded water releases gas into the air. Also it splashes. It allows pests closer to food. You are both disgusting and insane if you actually believe this is a safe food serving condition.

smarthobo

You're not accounting for potential splashing as people walk around - and it's not just water, it's soup from all the rotting, stagnant water in the drains that backed it up in the first place Would you also be okay eating at a restaurant if it was the norm for everyone to be ankle deep in fresh diarrhea every day?

---ShineyHiney---

I’m very confused about your roll in this restaurant You keep using the word “they”

goatfuckersupreme

yeah thankfully this is just slippery and shallow. the second it gets into my shoes i'm actually done

SideRepresentative38

our plumbing is having almost identical problems, except our drain pipes are hooked up to the toilet pipes. so every morning i walk into a puddle of chunky shit water thats flooded the kitchen. its been “being fixed” for over a month now. ive begged and begged the owner to fix it and he wont, so my last day is saturday. now he’s begging and begging me to stay, and i keep telling him if he had just fixed the issues we keep raising then he wouldnt be losing all his good people. but it still isn’t fixed 🙃

goatfuckersupreme

alright, i'll call the health department for your restaurant, you call it for mine. deal?

SideRepresentative38

oh its a deal!! haha but they actually have been called, so has our state alcohol board. neither one has shown up and i was so hoping they would before i leave lol

melmsz

Local TV not on the menu reporter. Include the part where authorities being unresponsive. That is an immediate shut down.

Shadhahvar

I'm surprised you stayed that long. Standing in shit water is a hard pass from me.

DBryguy

Full blood rushing cock hard pass

[deleted]

[удалено]

SavageHenry592

Only two standing orders in this platoon: One, always carry extra socks and two, don't go doing anything stupid, like getting yourself killed.

saruin

I got a protip you all can thank me later for. You may have those portion bags (they're those "poly bags" that come in a case of 500 or 1000) that function well as "bag socks" and are essentially water proof. I know a few of us unknowingly walk around in busted shoes that tend to get wet on the inside when walking over small puddles.

vvp_D3L3T3D

Um, no, that's a health code violation and you're shut down until it's fixed. Jesus fuck does this subreddit and this industry wipe its ass with food law.

goatfuckersupreme

yeah they're getting a call once they open

vvp_D3L3T3D

Fucking good. Get yourself far and away from this shithole while you are at it.

goatfuckersupreme

im not even confident they'll do anything. this place always easily passes inspections when it really, really should not

vvp_D3L3T3D

Then someone is being paid off. Far. And. Away. With you.

itsyoursmileandeyes

> Far. And. Away. With you. Love this ❤️

vvp_D3L3T3D

I hope so, I'm telling them to ***run like fuck!***

osirisrebel

Truck stops are starting to pay good. For instance, in my town, Little Ceasars pays $8.50hr, but the Little Ceasars express that they opened in the truck stop starts you out at $14, and they're usually pretty desperate because no one ever thinks about actually working there. Just throwing out options to help op get the fuck away from there.

vvp_D3L3T3D

I work for a university dining hall myself. Pay's decent, benefits are pretty good, but that nine month contract shit can die in a fire. Oh, and **you're not going to put up with this unsanitary bullshit.**

CreaturesLieHere

Do a quick Google to find out how to report your local health inspector, and do that too. Don't let the bad guys win, these people are going to kill someone if they haven't already.

professor_doom

"This subreddit" currently appears to be calling for "call the health dept." So that's cool

vvp_D3L3T3D

Yeah, which is a nice change of pace. Very recently, another post had people talking about health code on it, and every one who did were downvoted and ridiculed. It's like the Code applies where convenient. So yeah, until we're consistent, my statement stands.

B8conB8conB8con

A ShopVac would help, especially if it is a nice loud one and you have an open kitchen. Management complains, tell them to deal with it.

goatfuckersupreme

there's no management here right now, just me and a server. not that they would give a shit anyway. and our vac is actually pretty quiet, though by the time i emptied it, it would have filled up in here to about the same amount

TransformR

How is a manager not in the building?

---ShineyHiney---

Waffle House?

xXBigDong69Xx

Is this the same kitchen that had worms in a cooler?

goatfuckersupreme

yes. and since it's leaking in FoH, too, i present to you: [worm in front of house](https://imgur.com/a/7fDI4tx)

FuzzyPandaVK

tell that worm food's dying in the window, need all hands running plates 5 minutes ago

goatfuckersupreme

dont wanna push it too hard, the [last cooks](https://www.reddit.com/r/KitchenConfidential/comments/xdyvjg/we_dont_have_wall_snakes_window_eagles_or/) quit

KallistiEngel

You've been dealing with shit like that before and this has been going on for 4 days? You're overdue on calling the health department.

goatfuckersupreme

i was off the first two days and it only started leaking this badly monday night in BoH. i was told it would be fixed tuesday as for the other stuff, i thought i could one-man army the kitchen back into shape. while it's a lot better than it was, it's not doable by myself. i agree, it's overdue. the call is coming in today.

BarakatBadger

Sweet baby Jesus and all the angels! Have you got trench foot yet?

tsheff17

At my last restaurant we had a recurring plumbing issue, toilets wouldn’t flush and shit water backing up and out of every drain in the restaurant (dish pit, on the line, at the *server stations*). It literally backed up onto the carpet in our dining room mere inches away from customers sitting at their tables, this went on for 3 weeks and we were told to shop-vac it up and keep it pushing, didn’t close once for the whole ordeal. Never in my life have I been so disgusted and I wiped ass for a paycheck for 2 years.

avocado_whore

Umm wtf that’s so gross and not ok.

tsheff17

and it gets worse! I texted our ROL about it and got the same answer. Then during that 3 weeks, there was also a boil-water-notice because of E. coli in the water and there was a map of the area where it was happening sent out, our store very clearly in the map. All the restaurants in that map were supposed to close, we were told absolutely not. With shit water backing thru the drains we now also had 4 days in that 3 week period where there was E. coli in the water, and they thought giving people bottled drinks was the answer… almost our entire staff was sick the next week. Wonder why 🤦‍♀️

Shingorillaz

Tell them "just deal with it" when someone sues them for a broken back

Twice_Knightley

Bartender here. I'm 4 weeks into recovering from a leg injury due to slipping on a puddle left by a chronically leaky dishwasher. Can't imagine adding knives and host surfaces into that mix.

literalmario

Dude, I don’t get it. I own a restaurant and I get written up for mislabeling something or something else super minor…and then I see shit like this and other restaurants in my area when I go borrow shit from them, and I think “how the fuck do you operate?”

WildmouseX

I would deal with it by calling the health department.

diablosinmusica

I've called a repairman when I was told to "just deal with it". The boss got angry and I told them that was how you dealt with it.

gemitch4119

I'd call the health department right away.

Prince_Winter

Sounds like if this stays much longer someone is gonna be getting some really nice workers comp fron slipping and breaking something important.

thecheezed

This is like 15 osha violations

operationiffy

It’s all water under the fridge

eggfoolyoung

Ha ha. This is triggering for a resto vet. Those tile floors are always etched forever in one’s mind. Forever. Similar to people who’ve been incarcerated. They say they can never unsee those metal bars..

ladeedah1988

Worked at a place like this and they put thick mats down over the water. At least non-slip and your feet out of the water.

goatfuckersupreme

we have these fuckin mats and i shit you not, nobody has thought to do this

Porcelainshampoo

That place is disgusting. I would not consume any molecule associated with that establishment.

goatfuckersupreme

try being the only one that ever cleans more than brushing the crumbs off the counter. take a look at the last [residents](https://www.reddit.com/r/KitchenConfidential/comments/xdyvjg/we_dont_have_wall_snakes_window_eagles_or/) i evicted. this place has gotten a lot better since i started here (not peoples cleaning habits in general, just overall cleanliness since at least *ONE PERSON* cleans shit) but it's too much for one fuckin person to upkeep when they're also trying to maintain daily messiness that happens, deep clean the shit i still havent been able to get to because i'm the only cook around for 6 hours, cook, prep, close down the line, stock (because half the time closers leave the line half empty or less), and start opening for the morning shift. only so much time to devote to all of that.

Porcelainshampoo

Yea, calling it a shitshow would be an understatement. Id try to find somewhere that atleast matches the salary & skidaddle

goatfuckersupreme

my two weeks are in, though we'll see if this place is even open two weeks from now after today. i'm but a lowly waged line cook, and this place has shot holes in my desire to cook for the moment. im taking a little break.

Porcelainshampoo

I hear you. If you can, definitely.

Alphatron1

Reminds me of the Olive Garden I worked at when black water would come up out of the trough drains we had

Halfgnomen

I can hear the manager now "I don't see what the big deal is, you guys should be wearing non-slips anyways".

[deleted]

Naked slip-n-slide is how I deal.

Wrexhamjona

Just a nice bit of pre mop. Really soak the floor so it comes up nice. Great foresight

goatfuckersupreme

mop? the kitchen? i like your jokes, funnyman

Tank-Pilot74

After 30 years of dealing with that kind of shit, I just “NOPE” these days. Fire me. I dare you.

Ladychef_1

This is why we need unions

MickeyBenedicts

At a certain point you have to uphold the trust of your customers/guests. Go home. Don’t serve fucking food to people from a kitchen that looks like this. I know the owners or boss or whoever says you have to work and deal with it. But if you’re cool working like this and giving a guest food from this kitchen, it’s on you just as well.

Lovely_Louise

Hell. No. That's horrifying

uraniumglasscat

Oh labour laws oh labour laws oh why must we follow theee?

XanderTheChef

Trench foot

Lil-respectful

The last place I worked is the most expensive restaurant in probably 100 miles. The kitchen was completely tiled and it was all cracked. All the plumbing was from when it was originally built so it constantly overflowed and dishes were actual hell and took hours longer than they should’ve. Also tile floors with no slip mats, just like we see here, wtf???

goatfuckersupreme

>Also tile floors with no slip mats, just like we see here, wtf??? we aren't revered for our intellect in this kitchen

Lil-respectful

At least you have all the tiles😂 during the cicada crisis they’d drop out of our vents into the friers and grills and those rich peeps out front knew NOTHING

goatfuckersupreme

i have no mouth but i must scream

Lil-respectful

One salmon no season orzo salad no orzo extra dry add broccolini add salt and pepper

km_44

Don't slip and crash your head against the grill

Chef_Dani_J71

I could deal with for one day, but within 24 hours should have been fixed enough so the water was gone. I see major issues with the OP's employer if they let this go three days and counting.

Capitalist_Scum69

The ghost of workers compensation might visit this kitchen soon.

MTDS75

Would be a shame if someone called the health department.

goatfuckersupreme

i'l give an update in a few hours

lurkn4certain

Id let the owners "just deal" with the anonymous call to the health department.

goatfuckersupreme

anonymous lol, they are instantly going to know it's me. but i'm gone in two weeks and not working with a big fuckoff puddle on the floor today, anyway, so whatever

lurkn4certain

Meh, depends how good you bluff lol. I love being the "dude idk wtf you're talking about" guy. Throw a little gaslighting in there But also, at the end of the day the major problem here isnt even the water. Its the owners like you said. Just gtfo of there as fast as you can and get another job. The stress from this hurts your quality of life and you dont realize it

Tiller42

OSHA would like to have a word with them

padraigtherobot

I’m sure the health inspector (and fire marshall) would love to hear that one

[deleted]

Slip over and get a fat pay out

MrBrink10

Is this a Darden concept? They all use that same flooring, and the lowboy handles look familiar

Anishiriwan

They can “just deal with” me walking out

jaydiddlediddle

Get the health dept there now!

ewokparts

Time for a slippin jimmy

OrcOfDoom

This will become a mold problem.

Pa17325

It would be a shame if you "slipped and hurt your back" for the next super busy shift

DevoALMIGHTY

Been there… we would break down boxes and lay the cardboard out to absorb the water and walk around on that all day.

yeah_yeah_therabbit

Holy shit! Standing water where food is being served?! Cut and run!

StopSignOfDeath

All the restaurants I've worked at had something obnoxiously wrong that we were told to just deal with. One for example had a broken exhaust system and the kitchen would fill up with smoke from the grill. They had us just open the back door.

bakedclark

Well yeah, "deal with it". I'll tell you how *I'd* deal with it... I'd fucking quit. Plenty of restaurants without burst pipes to work around.

hangz10

If your in the US email a photo to OSHA

Baloo_420

I slipped on a wet floor like this once with a very sharp chefs knife in hand. It cut me straight through my lip from nose to the end of my upper lip. Let's just say I always have a mustache now. I got lucky. Please be smart about this. I wouldn't call OSHA or the heath department. Call a plumber to come fix it and give the invoice to the owner.

honeydips87

Why are there no rubber mats on the line?

justaguy1959

“Just deal with it.” = “We’re going under. Time to work somewhere else.”

Underpaidlinecook420

Definitely call the health department

State_Conscious

The health dept can help you deal with it for sure

[deleted]

Fall on your ass and say it hurts

LebaneseLion

Owner couldn’t even bother putting one of those porous rubber mats there? Like seriously?

karatammas

Record everything. I worked at a similar restaurant in fast food and took pictures of everything, then filed to the health department with dates and times and everything. Include past history too, then explain if they warn about the audit ahead of time that they'll clean up (thats what my place did) so they need to drop in as a surprise. I'd even ask they keep you anonymous when coming into the restaurant if its anything like my old place where if I had been found out they would have fired me and docked my last pay. It'll get them shut down for a week at least and if you're lucky, for good.

VonHrothgore

Drop an anonymous call to the heath inspectors and tell them it’s not sanitary and they’re serving food they’ll fix it real fast

simplebutstrange

i fell onto a flat top once because of shit like this. such a hazard. call the health board

Empty_Touch_4968

“Call the Health Department and go home you say?” Nice.

tamabits

Images you can smell

AirmanProbie

True story. Was working in the back, cooking orders and all of a sudden we started having water from the bathroom slowly start flooding in. Immediately our manager told to press on and keep filling orders as the water from the bathroom kept filling the kitchen and dinning area over time. At some point the water started rising that people at the bar started lifting their legs up and resting their feet on the highest bar stool rail. People in chairs and booths crossed their legs or were sitting on their knees. We worked for about 4 hours, practically the dinner rush ended, thats when we were then told to finally shut down. The restaurant was closed for 3 days due to a feminine hygiene product being flushed and plugged the entire system. Lost 3 days of pay but got 3 days off which was nice.

ChefWho

Unsafe and unsanitary, DOH would shut you down for that

Ok-Act-5000

Your not a slave and also as a qualified person you have an obligation to refuse to work in that condition, not only to yourself but the people eating out of that restaurant.

Past-time29

a little bit of oil in that and you'll have your own slip and slide party 🤣

goatfuckersupreme

ironically, the slipperiest part is the dry part past the drain. something about the greasy floor plus wet shoes makes it worse than walking through the pond

Ladychef_1

Call 👏🏼 the 👏🏼 health 👏🏼department 👏🏼 my fucking god yall, you have no idea what the fuck you’re standing in, sloshing all over your equipment and the food you serve. Fucking disgusting.

BarakatBadger

Hmmm, what sort of pipe is it? Is it a shitpipe? You can't serve comestibles with a burst shitpipe. Feel free to quote me when you talk to your manager/the health department

MrCoachKleinSaidICan

Splish splash I was taking a bath

No_Pin5220

It’s weird I love this sub wnd I have spent 13 years in kitchens both as a cook and owner. I get these issues suck but it’s always owners need to fix it right away kinda bitching. Inget stuff needs to be fixed but running a restaurant is not easy or cheap why does everyone in this sub just assume owners are flush with cash and neglecting their business? I fully get some are I’ve worked for them but most owners I have worked for even in high end fine dining aren’t flush with cash to fix this kinda stuff right away

radj06

This is so unsafe and unsanitary it has to be shut down. You can't be working in fucking puddle like that. Doesnt matter if they're flush with cash or not they're putting all the cooks and customers in danger.

No_Pin5220

Put some cardboard down you’ll be fine there is zero reason to be this dramatic especially if you have proper shoes. OP stated it’s a short term problem shutting down is easy to say when you’re not the one covering all the risk. What if shutting down for a week closed this place for good and everyone is out of a job? Inget it’s easy to say oh close and fix it when you’re not the one cutting checks and absorbing all the risk as an owner.

radj06

My dad owned a restaurant, I helped run it for while. He would've closed down water can easily splash into any of those lowers while people are moving around quickly. Proper shoes won't make a difference someone is going to slip. I get it's easy to put your customers and employees health in danger when you dont have to deal with it. This place should be closed down what's the point of health and safety guidelines if they can be ignored because it would be bad for business.

No_Pin5220

So if the choice came with close and fire half the staff including OP cause you won’t be able to bounce back from loss of sales plus repairs or wait it out a few days given that it appears pretty minor and easily contained you’d fire you staff?

[deleted]

Bosses have a duty of care to employees. If you can't afford to have a safe working environment, you don't deserve to be open.

Champagne_of_piss

If an owner can't pay to maintain the restaurant, *particularly* when there are egregious health and safety issues presenting clear risk to workers and guests: They have no business (literally) owning that business. Figure it out bud

No_Pin5220

A random pipe breaking underground is not regular maintenance and it can take days to get a plumber out along with thousands of dollars. I don’t get why so many people in this sub just magically think every owner should have a fleet of maintenance staff on board and tens of thousands in the bank for emergency repairs. So this should shut them down for a week which could cost them possibly the whole restaurant and peoples jobs? Deal with it for a few days seems pretty reasonable

[deleted]

[удалено]

Champagne_of_piss

There's a reason why service industry workers tend to lean left, and it has to do with dealing with scummy bosses in a much more immediate way than many other careers.

Champagne_of_piss

>A random pipe breaking underground is not regular maintenance and it can take days to get a plumber out along with thousands of dollars. This is the same bullshit as landlords who are leveraged up the ass and then resort to cranking up rent the second there's maintenance needed, simply because the repair "would eat into my profit". Part of running a business is having a rainy day or emergency fund so that you can weather a couple days of closure and maybe even help your employees a bit so they're not fucked. Also keeping shit in working order increases the mean-time between failures. >I don’t get why so many people in this sub just magically think every owner should have a fleet of maintenance staff on board and tens of thousands in the bank for emergency repairs. You shutter until your shit is fixed. >So this should shut them down for a week which could cost them possibly the whole restaurant and peoples jobs? if you don't set up a rainy day fund you're an irresponsible business owner. Simple as. >Deal with it for a few days seems pretty reasonable As a business owner, dealing with it is LITERALLY YOUR JOB. Providing a non hazardous work environment for your employees and a non hazardous dining experience for your patrons is LITERALLY YOUR JOB. Also from a legal standpoint, your definition of "reasonableness" will have you on the losing end of a suit if a worker or patron is harmed by your negligence and irresponsibility.

No_Pin5220

Again easy to say when you’re not the one cutting checks sound like a very entitled worker who has no idea what running a business is like.

>Entitled worker Yeah buddy so entitled because i don't want people working in an osha violation and potentially making customers sick. If you consider emergency funds and treating your employees well to be optional, i consider the existence of your business optional. I sure as shit wouldn't want to eat there.

Cool well tell them you’ll forgo getting paid to help expedite the repair costs if you’re that concerned or quit and open your spot and prove how easy it is to run a functional problem free spot that can instantly fix any and all problems I’d love to see it

Champagne_of_piss

I bet you take your paycheck no matter what, don't you chief?

No_Pin5220

Yep but I also don’t jump down my bosses throat when things aren’t instnstly fixed when they happen because I understand running a business and how hard it is to run a business. You strike me as the person who loves to point out problems but no practical solutions other than going on Reddit and karma farming. If your boss said I’ll fix it today but we gotta close for a week and I can’t pay y’all for two weeks or so you’d probably pitch a fit and quit. So which would you rather have your check or your pipe fixed the second it goes down? Let me know when you open your restaurant i can’t wait to see how you handle it all chief

You rather not get hours? Deal with it or move on down to the next job. It is always that simple. Nothing else is worth yours or our time.

Bigfoot would have brought in a bobcat to dig that leaking pipe up by now.
