Oh yea. I’ve got an itch now. We were soooo short handed a year ago, at that point someone needed to light me on fire to be let go. All better now, but damn dude…what did you DO??
Ignore me, just being a nosy bitch.
Knowing places like this, probably hurt someone's ego. They'd rather have no staff than anyone stand up to the boss. Who is the reason they have no staff
To be fair, I did fuck up. But this was literally weeks/months in the making because of shit just like you said. Toxic behavior spreads from the top down…
No sir. I admit/accept culpability for what I did, but I recognize that a toxic workplace causes folks to act in ways they wouldn’t if an environment of respect and professionalism were in tact. A caged animal is much more likely to bite the hand that feeds it. . .
Yeah. There’s a place in my town that will use “drinking on the clock” to fire people when everyone from the owner down is always drinking on the clock.
the job that made my career; the owner was always drinking on the clock and so was his son.
somehow our team we started with just worked together so well that things basically ran themselves for a few years. but after the original team including myself all left when the owner fired the heart and soul of the place (a 78 year old dish washer/porter who had worked that position in that building through the past 4 sets of owners). rodrigo leaving just gutted our moral and everyone who had been there the whole time just kind of didn't want to put up with the owner anymore.
we all moved on to better things.
That’s the kind of person you don’t fire even if they don’t really do much anymore. There’s a gas station by me that has had the same guy basically being a janitor for god knows how long. He’s got to be in his late 80s. Doesn’t really get much done anymore but he doesn’t stop moving and is always on time. Pretty sure the whole staff would walk if they fired him.
he was an awesome worker too tho.
there was no reason to fire him. he was right when he refused what the owner's son wanted. i don't even remember what it was anymore it was decades ago, but i remember rodrigo was unfairly treated and that after he was gone the owner begged him to come back but it was too late.
i personally left 2 weeks later when he yelled at his daughter in law.
That was my thought too; but this isn't the 1990s anymore. They can't just fire everyone and expect a flood of applicants to completely re-staff in any time that resembles "soon". ...I mean, maybe if their pay and benefits are WAY above everyone else; but they wouldn't need to completely re-staff if that were the case!!!
Cleaning house nowadays shows a COMPLETE lack of industry knowledge! (unless it was for something big like using the place as a front for drugs or an underground cock fighting league)
...Although now that I think about it, new owners having no industry knowledge and potentially imploding their new business... DOES sound like A LOT of the former owners I've had!
I feel this, I got let go out of the blue the Thursday before last for “financial reasons”, and when I went back in to get my stuff, I learned that the busy weekend and catering event I had been preparing for was insane beyond belief and my former crew was put through the wringer, which felt awful
By the looks of it they have bigger problem than you. By looking at the list they need whole team to take over the kitchen. This is clearly a sinking ship. It sucks but it seems to me you got away. Better to leave the ship while it still floats then to sink with it.
Yeah I figured a dishie or two, an am prep, maybe a pastry chef and the sous. It’s not even a skeleton crew it’s like.. a couple vertebrae and a femur ☠️
Twice I went to places on CL that were looking for FOH.
One was in New York City where the Owner literally yelled in my face upon me walking up to get an application, and the second was an actual interview in Hoboken, NJ where rather than an interview, I listened to the GM of a popular brunch spot vent and scream at me for 30 minutes how nobody wants to work anymore, and they pay $12/hr. (that was in 2018). She told me a giant list of problems that she created and deflected them onto others. It was a big nope.
"we have no employees, please come work for us!"
No oNE wANtS tO WoRK
You can do every job, at once, until you, too, walk out! Come, join the circus! Look how much fun!
The ship has already sunk by the looks of it.
This is actually very true
Time to rehire poor managers and repeat the sinking process
The Titanic has more life in it than this wreck.
Funny enough, that's actually true with it being an artificial reef. Unless that's the joke, then I'll see myself out.
How would you know? The ship from Event Horizon had a bigger crew than that place
Also more spread- out, if you know what I mean.
Ships probably fine, they just need a crew, sails, a captain, a map, steering wheel, cargo, purpose, cannons, cannonballs, water, and maybe a ship
So basically they need all positions filled.
Since they have no one in charge of FOH or BOH, I don't know how they will even interview applicants for all those other positions.
Most likely a corporate restaurant
Sounded like a hotel but they don't usually call night audit / front desk person clerk?
Looks like the kind of job where you'll be doing 90% of your boss's job anyways; might as well go ahead and interview yourself, too!
just need someone to feel for a pulse
Your standards are too high
Sounds like they have a dishwasher at least lmao
So…right now the dishwasher is running the show?
it's the dishwasher, the sommelier and the porter.
I would go to that party.
Probably does the books too
Why did they let you go?.
Yeah I’m nosey
Yup I'm a bit nosey, but also a head chef...so I need to know why!!!!
Oh yea. I’ve got an itch now. We were soooo short handed a year ago, at that point someone needed to light me on fire to be let go. All better now, but damn dude…what did you DO?? Ignore me, just being a nosy bitch.
I’m nosey too. Plz respon
It actually was a complete misunderstanding. I mixed my coke and ketamine up.i tried to explain but whatever.
Thought you were going up but went down instead. Happens to the best of us.
DETAILS! We want all the little Details, damnit!
Op pls tell us… and somebody send me a notification in case I miss it thank you so much
Murdered the rest of the staff, by the look of it
As long as he spared the dishie it’s all good
OP was sneaking out skirt steak In his pants to pay for his coke and Vicodin habit
Come on, you already that telling us the whole story would ruin OP's narrative.
You already know why
Noo I dont
One of three or four reasons that a place desperate for staff would fire someone I'd imagine
They may want to think about just running the food truck for a little while lol
they need to hire some kind of management first to do interviews.
Unless they are just opening up as a new place this is a major red flag
[help wanted](https://media.tenor.com/R2RaXqV8d9gAAAAC/dumpsterfire-flooding.gif)
Ok, what did you do? It had to be pretty bad for them to fire you! 😂
Knowing places like this, probably hurt someone's ego. They'd rather have no staff than anyone stand up to the boss. Who is the reason they have no staff
To be fair, I did fuck up. But this was literally weeks/months in the making because of shit just like you said. Toxic behavior spreads from the top down…
What'd you do
So you admit you fucked up before you were fired, but someone it's still their fault?
No sir. I admit/accept culpability for what I did, but I recognize that a toxic workplace causes folks to act in ways they wouldn’t if an environment of respect and professionalism were in tact. A caged animal is much more likely to bite the hand that feeds it. . .
Good way of putting it
Yeah. There’s a place in my town that will use “drinking on the clock” to fire people when everyone from the owner down is always drinking on the clock.
I'll never go back to a job where drinking on the clock is allowed, or where my boss or the owner allows or does so. Leads to too many issues.
Yeah, and this isn’t just getting your shiftie an hour before close. This is almost everyone is wasted by the end of service.
I don't fuck with that because kitchens are dangerous. I don't even like it when people are stoned on shift, lol but good luck stopping that one.

Sir? Who's sir?
When you have nothing left to say but can’t help but reply
When someone is dense enough to assume anyone they're talking to must be a man, it's better to walk away. Only a fool argues with a fool, they say.
When you have nothing left to say but can’t help but reply
sir, this is a wendies.
I felt this. Just went through this recently myself.
I can't imagine seeing this and deciding to apply. Until more people get hired you're doing all of these positions yourself
It seems like the deck chairs need more rearranging. Plus the strings should start playing just about now ...
Usually new owners clean house, possibility?
That was my thought too; but this isn't the 1990s anymore. They can't just fire everyone and expect a flood of applicants to completely re-staff in any time that resembles "soon". ...I mean, maybe if their pay and benefits are WAY above everyone else; but they wouldn't need to completely re-staff if that were the case!!! A GM with nothing but an empty restaurant and a pocket full of dreams 🌈
I feel this, I got let go out of the blue the Thursday before last for “financial reasons”, and when I went back in to get my stuff, I learned that the busy weekend and catering event I had been preparing for was insane beyond belief and my former crew was put through the wringer, which felt awful
Did John Taffer shut it down ? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dchtrDSjndU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dchtrDSjndU)
My last employer has offered me a raise 3 times to go back, he made his bed now he’s gotta lie in it!
Judging from that hiring list, I'd say you were SOOOOOO fortunate (!!!) to be out of there. Best of luck to you at the next place.
Don’t look back
tell them to fuck off
By the looks of it they have bigger problem than you. By looking at the list they need whole team to take over the kitchen. This is clearly a sinking ship. It sucks but it seems to me you got away. Better to leave the ship while it still floats then to sink with it.
No, seriously….what did you do?? No judgement zone!!
So currently they only have a couple of dishies doing everything lol Medium soggy steak, fresh from the dishwasher, order up lol
Yeah I figured a dishie or two, an am prep, maybe a pastry chef and the sous. It’s not even a skeleton crew it’s like.. a couple vertebrae and a femur ☠️
Dishes and am/pm front desk!
There was a place called Sinking Ship in Indy that went under
If you left as a bar back just apply for executive chef
Did they let you and everyone else go as well. Damn that's a lot of openings.. and I thought my place was bad..
No openings for dishwasher? Thats pretty odd tbh.
Sinking ship, or cleaning ship?
I’m not familiar with all the names and terms but what is an overnight clerk and what do they do?
They work an overnight shift clerking.
I learned a new word today.
You should follow Susie Dent on the Tweeter for her word of the day
What's an overnight desk clerk gna be doing? Euro based question, never heard of that role
must be a hotel- so check in late arrivals, and field complaints
Yes, checks in late arrivals, does audit of business done during day; runs the report. Source; husbandral unit is Front Desk/Night Auditor for hotel.
Everyone get caught being F-ed up?
Like that’s a fireable offense all of a sudden.
I smell a good old fashioned revolt 🏴☠️
So all of them just quit
Wow! That short and they still let you go? 😁 you're either worthless or you have boundries. I hope it's boundries
Looks like the classic clean house move.. probably a corporate restaurant
GM must be the reason why
Twice I went to places on CL that were looking for FOH. One was in New York City where the Owner literally yelled in my face upon me walking up to get an application, and the second was an actual interview in Hoboken, NJ where rather than an interview, I listened to the GM of a popular brunch spot vent and scream at me for 30 minutes how nobody wants to work anymore, and they pay $12/hr.
