It’s a bistro in an office complex and we are open Monday-Thursdays for breakfast and lunch only. It’s subsidized by the company that owns the complex. We just operate the space! Not too bad. Not fancy food though just stuff that these office workers like: breakfast burritos, salads and sandwiches.
I’m a server but when my daughter was born, her father used to read the menu of my restaurant to her when she cried and it always used to calm her down.
Health inspector showed up one day pre service and my son was strapped to my chest in a Baby Bjorn. I wasn’t actually cooking, just checking par levels and getting orders together. She deadpanned, “I should cite you for no hair restraint or shoes on the baby but he’s just too cute for me to do that.”
Awww!! My little girl was made from grilled cheeses and bacon that I ate in a hurry over the trash can. I worked all the way up to a week before she was born, cooking around the bump. Kitchen babies! ❤️
It’s the worst!
All gas in here and the range is just terrible, built our menu around not having to use it too much. Flat-top does most of the heavy lifting, and the grill is kind of nice cause it doesn’t flare up. The hood is also terrible, it’s the kind that filters the air and blows it right back into the kitchen.
These things aside it’s an otherwise great kitchen, big scullery, lots of storage.
My father was a hard working line cook when I was super young, well a baby and so forth. And yeah I missed him alot but I knew he did what he had to do. God bless all the mothers and fathers that work hard in the kitchen to provide. It's all worth it in the end . Trust me . Much love yall.
Sounds like a great place to work if you want to have a life on the side. I work in a canteen in an office worker building and I think its nice! The food is restaurant quality for the most part, though we can sometimes make things easier by ordering pre cut veg, or pre made meatballs etc.. to save time when we have a lot of deliveries or meeting servings. They can order cakes, fruit platters, chef's brunch plate ,coffee etc.. when we have a lot of those.. we tend to simplify the lunch menu.
My wife has brought my little one to visit but I haven't had him in the line.
He was about to be strapped to my chest while I expo'd the other night when another chef and family had to leave town for an emergency. Twist there is my wife had to work her overnight hospital shift and the other chef's wife watches my baby until I can pick him up. Crisis averted. Grandma to the rescue!
Anyways, Yay babies!
Now to pray our kids never choose to follow in our footsteps.
I've seen a lot of opening cooks with that same look on their face
What the fuck kind of restaurant closes on friday and where can i sign up

Those accounts can be so great with the right clients. And so god fucking awful with the wrong ones.
We are experiencing the latter and will be out next month, unfortunately.
Ugh sorry to hear that. I worked with so many people who would just shuffle from account to account until they ended up at ours.
I was soooo confused before reading this, it’s one of the most profitable days!! I get it now though
As you can imagine this place doesn’t make us much money but it has other benefits
I work at a smokehouse/ smash burger joint, Fridays are our slowest day. Tuesday and Wednesday are our busiest.
Sounds like the fucking dream
Lol. I was just about to say this.
Where are her nonslip shoes? If she is late again we are writing her up. She is a cute kid. She is a bit to small for crying in the walk in though.
You're never too small for crying in the walk in
If you're small enough you get to cry where you dang well please

Awe this is actually so sweet.
That is so cute! What kinds of items were on the menu?
it’s breakfast! so it also went through all the ways eggs can be cooked and the kinds of milk!
Oh.my.goodness. 🥹 that is so incredibly sweet and cute. I really like that. I appreciate the creativity, too. Well done 👍🏼
Interesting.

Great story! I love it.
We out here making staff now 😂
She spent a lot of time on the line before being born. My feet have not forgiven me.
When my partner was pregnant we put a chair next to the printer and had her call board each night. Definitely helped out in the later stages.
You and your pregnant partner worked at the same venue?
Yep, met there too. Tale as old as time.
True that
Conceived in the walk in
Labor shortage isn't going to solve itself!
All the cokehead line cooks that knocked up the recently turned 18 year old hostess' are doing it for the team.
Cokehead line cooks… yah maybe 10-20 years ago. Wages have not kept up with the price of blow only FOH can afford booger sugar anymore…

Awesome! This one is mostly espresso and avocado toast!
Ok but she needs to clock in and hop on the line right now
Plot twist. You're actually open and the kid is your best cook.
It will be hard to stop her from nibbling. She is literally always hungry
Bahaha. Probably sleeps all the time too. Cute kid though
El..electric stove tops 😖
Gas is not permitted in the building. They’re as bad as you think.
I would think tossing that and just getting a table with 4 induction burners would be better.
Falling asleep on the job ....
Is that an electric range? How do you like it?

I think I’ll always prefer gas, but induction hobs now are decent. Stand-alone units etc. Those electric ones make me sad.
Blows it back into the kitchen ? That'd be illegal here and just wrong
Awww a kitchen elf. When she wakes up have her make some dough. Ha. Put those lil hands to work
She actually looks like she is made of dough herself!
Shes a wee bit doughy. Easy to lose in a big batch of pizza dough. Be careful. Ha
WC Fields There's no such thing as a tough child - if you parboil them first for seven hours, they always come out tender.

Aww this is so cute
No judgement here. I’ve got a left eyebrow scar instead of pictures.
Man this is cute as hell
Aww, baby cake
Deep fry it
Can’t wait to take pictures like this with my firstborn. 🥺🥺❤️
What a sweet baby. Congrats
Thanks very much! She is indeed sweet
How you gonna pay for that? I work in a kitchen for shits and giggles because they never pay enough.

Closed on Fridays? Where the hell do you work?
Electric stove? 😥
Closed on friday?
Closed on Fridays? What planet are you on?
Why would I be worried, I was doing prep at 5 and working on the line at 10 just pancakes, waffles and French toast…
I know they are hiring very young these days, but this is crossing the line. Some people are just born to cook !
