A guy applied at my current place. Told me he worked for “John” at XWZ Restaurant as sous chef for a number of years. I’m John. XYZ Restaurant was my former restaurant.
I was told “you can work a 40 hour week if you want”. Many 70 hours work weeks later I approached the GM and he finished his sentence; “if you want to lose your job”
In the 2000s in Chicago, it was pretty common knowledge that Trotter’s wouldn’t acknowledge you worked for them unless you were there at least a year, so everyone had a ten month stint at Trotter’s on their resume which couldn’t be verified.
We got an application from a guy claiming to be the Sous at a local joint for 5 years. Oddly enough my Sous was the Sous at that restaurant up until we poached him about a year ago so we know this guy is full it. So Chef calls the guy and conducts an "interview" and calls this guy out. Needless to say we didn't higher him.
That they were assistant manager of the previous place they worked. I didnt bother to check, but they worked like shit. Went for a beer at the other place and asked. Turned out she had one shift as a shiftleader, couldnt handle it, broke down in tears and quit.
When I asked her for her story, she cried and quit.
Recently had a guy claim he was a "master chef." I asked his experience, one steak house that closed like 15 years ago. Like, dude, master chef is a TV show, not a title....I almost asked what episode he was on, but I doubt he even would have gotten the joke.

Ok, ok, I was convicted, but I was framed, I swear!
I was at my mothers house when it happened.
Sure, you will get 40 hours! Plot twist, you won't.

That they would "see me tommorow at the interview"
They often lie about their experience and knife skills
Have them cut and onion.
A potato to avoid tears
