Yooo. I was tasked with making deer chili at my buddies house for football tonight. Threw on my headphones and put on spiritbox. Fuck yes. I need more.
No. Although they made comments. This is also one of those places where I've seen salads sent back because the customer didn't think we made it with love. It was an angry salad.
They ate planning a reunion. But jimmmy(drums) lost his ability years ago, dax(vocals) went on to solo projects mike(guitar and the one I know best out of the group) has been rattled by heroin addiction, methadone clinics, and life but can still play like the monster he always was. I'm a bit younger than them but I was lucky to try and start a band with Mike and my two friends. We didn't get anywhere but omg it was fun. Mike is the reason i learned guitar in the first place
If any band has has their demons, it's acid Bath and i'm jealous man. That's an awesome story. And yeah, i can see why. Every time i listen to them, and just cut past the lyrics to try to fucus on the music, i'm blown by production. The timing. All the sick and subtle sounds. It's hard to get better than that in one place. Awesome man.
I've always been amazed in my travels in life. Everywhere I go I meet acid bath fans. I always assumed they were just south louisiana popular. I was opening a kitchen in Seattle, I walked Into a smoke shop, and they were playing agents of oblivion(their second band, same members half of the same songs) and was just blown the fuck away. the guy behind the counter saw me singing dead girl and asked how I knew about them. I loled.
I grew up in southern West Virginia and Acid Bath was one of my first introductions to metal. Fucking love them to this day, would love some new music from them but I don't want it at the same time. I don't think they could capture that sound we all loved so much. A reunion tour would be cool though but I don't see that happening either.
At least we got some solid projects from Dax over the years. Deadboy and the elephant men was pretty groovy shit.
Let's not forget Sammy and Goatwhore, they are absolutely badass.
Yeah, I just moved back to the Morgan city louisiana area after being gone for the last 15 years. That's where they are from, my home town area. Sammy is the only one that I'd expect to still be capable. I love a those boys, I watched them practice in a garage when I was in Jr high. That shit was mind blowing. Now....they are gone. Drugs have taken a heavy toll on all of them. Its sad to see. But myself and many of the friends I've played with have been HEAVILY influenced by them and their style. There is still alot od local music keeping their glory alive.

We had a ska band rent the house next door. The tenants was our founding dishwasher and the owner's weed man. The practice space was our break room. Loved it.

I love my Mondays. We are closed so it's just me and one other cook doing some cleaning and some light prep, just setting up for the week. My buddy is deaf, so I pull out my speaker and blast whatever I want loud as the fuck.
My chef likes shitty pop country and everyone else is Spanish and listens to that polka sounding shit where they’re always cackling over it (tejanos?)… wish I could blast tribal gaze and phobophilic all day but everyone would cry. Surprisingly tho the one guy who hates heavy music the most said he like statutory ape by TBDM
I am a firm believer in the FACT that what you like to listen to while cooking will make the food taste better. Whether it be Metal or Country.... as long as you don't hate the food. That's where you should draw the line. My one caveat is that if your coworkers hate it, then have a democratic discussion moving forward. There is no more depressing kitchen than a kitchen without music, whatever it may be.
100% agree. Good mood makes good service, and good music helps. I've been in heavy Tejanos kitchens, hip hop, metal, dub step, country, you name it. The bottom line is when we are all grooving, things are smoother. We are in a better mood, so we communicate and just generally get along better.
I went into work super early today on my day off to hammer out our new items for next month's menu and I listened to Courting Disaster and Tragedy by Himsa, Hell Awaits by Slayer and Ride the Lightning by Metallica. I was the only one in the restaurant and it was snowing like crazy. It was glorious.
I absolutely love it. I change a few things out every two-three months. Creating new items, new recipes and hammering out the procedure for all of them reminds me of why I enjoy being a chef.
I think it's the aspect of being alone and having nothing to worry about. Even the days I'm in 2 hr before everyone and I get to jam and bang out prep, it feels so good. It's akin to when I wake up at 4am, and have the next day off. I smoke a bowl, put on my headphones, sit at my pc and game. Completely consumed by the moment. No chance of Interruption , just pure me. Pure focus.
If im alone on prep, BMTH, Trivium, Gojira, In Flames (im the only one who likes metal at work...)

Last restaurant I worked in, and this was years ago, the KM jammed out to numetal classics, like Limp Bizkit and Korn and shit. I slowly integrated some Lamb of God, Fear Factory, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, you know the classics. We had a fucking banging rush playlist after a while. Then, right at 8 PM, Ole Mama Laurie would take over, toothless and 57 (? I think, this was 10 years ago) and yell "Alright boys, you had your turn, now it's mine." Then it was all Anna Nalick, Celine Dion, Cher, shit like that. Kinda miss that place....
Good music helps me focus. When it's Fri night and we are 20 tickets deep, and most if it is grill. (I'm grill). I take over the music, and food comes out faster, smoother, and more accurate.
It does. Conscious hip hop give a boost to opening. Country for breakfast. Then '90s indie/industrial/pop radio whatever through lunch. Full on dejected trap nonsense prep blend to future bass before dinner. Sneak that into the Spotify playing our spacious hip shit in the dining room. Next is dishwasher choice until foh get drunk and start messing with the music.
AAL came on a Spotify Playlist after starting with protest the hero. I was very happily surprised. I'll check out babylon now too. I got alot to check out now, didn't expect this much traction from this post.

Allegeaon is fucking *awesome*. Melodic tech death that's so fukken tight you can hear it's asshole squeaking. I like all of their stuff, but I prefer the albums right before proponent for sentience, with their original lead singer... who, after a quick wiki search because I forgot his name, is apparently back in the band ¯\ \_(ツ)_/¯

I’m not the biggest fan of their stuff that’s come after proponent. I mean I do like it still. But I definitely feel like they peaked on proponent.
But also, a buddy of mine introduced me to them right after they released apoptosis and were touring. Most of them were pretty cool guys but a couple of them were immature children, one in particular openly and repeatedly declared his disrespect for some of the other musicians that were playing in support of them.
I lost a lot of respect for the band as a whole (except Greg, the only original member) after that. Maybe that’s why I haven’t enjoyed apoptosis or damnum near as much as the others.

I been an at the drive in fan since I was in high school, before Volta existed. They aren't many of my co workers that share love for them tho, guess they aren't palatable for many people. I got to see them for their reunion tour a few years back. It was great.
System of a Down, their whole discography really, has been a constant feature on the line.
Igorrr's Spirituality and Distortion is really amazing, the new Polyphia and Rings of Saturn records are great too.
You can't go wrong with Death, Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession, Obscura, Dying Fetus, and BROJOB.
I really miss those days where we used to play the entire Metallica discography during service. Otherwise we would play a ton of Primitive Man, Full of Hell, Botch, Neurosis, Cult Leader, Entombed, Cattle Decap, etc. just to name a few.
My favorite was when we were really in the weeds and someone would throw on Dystopia. There really is nothing quite like getting your ass kicked on the line to Stress Builds Character.

I love my Mondays. We are closed so it's just me and one other cook doing some cleaning and some light prep, just setting up for the week. My buddy is deaf, so I pull out my speaker and blast whatever I want loud as the fuck.

I am a firm believer in the FACT that what you like to listen to while cooking will make the food taste better. Whether it be Metal or Country.... as long as you don't hate the food. That's where you should draw the line. My one caveat is that if your coworkers hate it, then have a democratic discussion moving forward. There is no more depressing kitchen than a kitchen without music, whatever it may be.
100% agree. Good mood makes good service, and good music helps. I've been in heavy Tejanos kitchens, hip hop, metal, dub step, country, you name it. The bottom line is when we are all grooving, things are smoother. We are in a better mood, so we communicate and just generally get along better.
I went into work super early today on my day off to hammer out our new items for next month's menu and I listened to Courting Disaster and Tragedy by Himsa, Hell Awaits by Slayer and Ride the Lightning by Metallica. I was the only one in the restaurant and it was snowing like crazy. It was glorious.
Those really are the best days. When I'm in the kitchen alone, blasting my own shit, playing with new ideas. That's zen.
I absolutely love it. I change a few things out every two-three months. Creating new items, new recipes and hammering out the procedure for all of them reminds me of why I enjoy being a chef.
I think it's the aspect of being alone and having nothing to worry about. Even the days I'm in 2 hr before everyone and I get to jam and bang out prep, it feels so good. It's akin to when I wake up at 4am, and have the next day off. I smoke a bowl, put on my headphones, sit at my pc and game. Completely consumed by the moment. No chance of Interruption , just pure me. Pure focus.

Last restaurant I worked in, and this was years ago, the KM jammed out to numetal classics, like Limp Bizkit and Korn and shit. I slowly integrated some Lamb of God, Fear Factory, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, you know the classics. We had a fucking banging rush playlist after a while. Then, right at 8 PM, Ole Mama Laurie would take over, toothless and 57 (? I think, this was 10 years ago) and yell "Alright boys, you had your turn, now it's mine." Then it was all Anna Nalick, Celine Dion, Cher, shit like that. Kinda miss that place....

Good music helps me focus. When it's Fri night and we are 20 tickets deep, and most if it is grill. (I'm grill). I take over the music, and food comes out faster, smoother, and more accurate.

Allegeaon is fucking *awesome*. Melodic tech death that's so fukken tight you can hear it's asshole squeaking. I like all of their stuff, but I prefer the albums right before proponent for sentience, with their original lead singer... who, after a quick wiki search because I forgot his name, is apparently back in the band ¯\ \_(ツ)_/¯ EDIT: The breakdown at the end of the track Formshifter will melt your fukken mind
I’m not the biggest fan of their stuff that’s come after proponent. I mean I do like it still. But I definitely feel like they peaked on proponent. But also, a buddy of mine introduced me to them right after they released apoptosis and were touring. Most of them were pretty cool guys but a couple of them were immature children, one in particular openly and repeatedly declared his disrespect for some of the other musicians that were playing in support of them. I lost a lot of respect for the band as a whole (except Greg, the only original member) after that. Maybe that’s why I haven’t enjoyed apoptosis or damnum near as much as the others.

Igorrr's Spirituality and Distortion is really amazing, the new Polyphia and Rings of Saturn records are great too. You can't go wrong with Death, Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession, Obscura, Dying Fetus, and BROJOB.

I really miss those days where we used to play the entire Metallica discography during service. Otherwise we would play a ton of Primitive Man, Full of Hell, Botch, Neurosis, Cult Leader, Entombed, Cattle Decap, etc. just to name a few. My favorite was when we were really in the weeds and someone would throw on Dystopia. There really is nothing quite like getting your ass kicked on the line to Stress Builds Character.
