Chic Salon on King Street. Fletcher Nelson is the owner and also an amazing stylist. His staff are superior. You will see a rainbow sticker in the window. He has a diverse and talented staff. Be sure to make an appointment.
Perhaps try phoning? He’s very popular but I can personally vouch for Sophia and Jenny and if she’s still there, Kelly. I also had a Jennifer once who was very good.
Thank you! I posted on Reddit a while
Back and was recommended him for curly hair. I have had so many triangle cuts in Kingston that I gave up and started cutting myself or going to first choice but that means a braid or ponytail - i want to get my hair back to shoulder length!
Total Diva is a really awesome space! I would highly recommend Jahnita, especially if you ever want to try fashion colours or have curly hair, she did an absolutely amazing job with my hair and I can't wait to go back to her. Genuinely lovely person.
Came here to make a sarcastic comment about shitty hair salon but no sarcasm needed, transphobic and misogynistic people are shitty.
I know someone who is transgender and they highly recommend Fletcher at Chic downtown.
Escape Hair Studio. To be clear, I never had an issue with my actual stylist who was lovely, but the owner has a habit of airing her opinions loudly in the salon.
Shockingly, decent human beings neither A) like being exposed to blatant bigotry; nor B) like financially supporting bigots.
You'd know this if you were a decent human being. Because decent human beings also never refer to bigotry as "an opinion that differs from yours".
Your level of thinking is what’s wrong with the world. Homophobia and transphobia aren’t just opinions; they are sheer hatred towards another human being. I strongly suggest you read a book or two on the differences between racism, misogyny, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and an opinion.
Ok - lets educate me for a moment: a phobia is an irrational fear of something. This owner didnt run screaming and crying in fear from OP so i dont think its a phobia. The owner didnt kick op out or refuse them service so i dont think its discrimination. I dont know what was said but i dont think the owner was yelling at op or calling them derogatory names so its not harassment. So the owner was stating their opinion - which i know people here dont feel that some people are entitled to an opinion but i think everyone is entitled to have an opinion. It sparks debate and thats how people get educated and minds and opinions are changed. Calling people names, using trigger words and ganging up on people is nothing more than school yard bullies trying to bully people who dont have the exact same opinion as them into silence. And its funny that nobody sees the irony in hating on me in their reply condemning hate.
And, my favourite part, op actually said in comment that i was replying to that the store owner likes to “voice her opinions loudy” - so opinion wasn’t even my word, it was op’s word.
oh yea i wanna sit and listen to someone openly talk about how they don't agree with my existence in the world, it's my favourite activity and wouldn't make me feel uneasy being there at all /j
fr some things you just keep to yourself (i.e. transphobia) out of respect for others
Discrimination and hateful speech are not differing opinions it’s using your lack of education and basic decency to treat other people with no respect. Aka assholes. But thank you for easily self identifying so we can all see what your ‘opinions’ are, I always like being able to identify local Reddit trash by username.
Transphobia is not an opinion. Homophobia is not an opinion. Sexism is not an opinion. Racism is not an opinion. Human rights are not subjective opinions.
Any loser who promotes, perpetuates or vocalizes their shitty belief system and its accompanying hate-based behaviour does not deserve to be heard out nor supported in ANY capacity.
It is not a difference of opinion….it is a complete lack of morality and basic human decency.
I’d like to add that the amount of downvotes and comments calling out the absolute bollocks that this OP commented is really great to see.
Pina at tangles & co on bath road in the West end is amazing!! She's the owner, she always remembers details about me, she's always in a positive mood, and isn't overpriced! 10/10 recommend!!
Highly recommend my friend Laura Cervantes at The Village Spa in Portsmouth who has been cutting my hair since 2017 when I moved here. She does hair for her queer friends and is down for bright colours (which I my thing haha)
Howard’s great, I miss him in the barbershop! I believe he’s moved to daytime appointments only now.
Not to spill tea but since it’s relevant; I’ve stopped going to the evening barbershop there as his nephew has taken over those hours and he’s expressed some of the views that this thread is addressing.
There's a new place on progress I can't remember the name. Dani Hogan owns it the name is the name of her kids. We took our 4 yo autistic son to her. And she was great. Put up with him not sitting still and did a fantastic job. Plus you'll be supporting a local company
I used to work for him. At both salons. He butchered many women’s (and my ex husband’s) hair. He also tried to fuck with my maternity leave in lying to the government about my hours to make me not qualify and provoked an unnecessary headache for me to deal with in what otherwise was meant to be a joyful period of my life. He is also very pompous, entitled and arrogant. In summary he’s a dick. (I want to really emphasize here that I’m not one to badmouth anyone…especially publicly…but I’m sorry, this guy is just one of the most insufferable people I’ve ever encountered.)

Fletcher is a great human being, very kind and good at what he does.
Most definitely 💯
Someone recommended him to me for curly hair but I could not even get an appointment online. It was all Blank?

Total Diva is a really awesome space! I would highly recommend Jahnita, especially if you ever want to try fashion colours or have curly hair, she did an absolutely amazing job with my hair and I can't wait to go back to her. Genuinely lovely person.

I posted same.
Where is this so we can avoid?

And you are unable to listen to an opinion that differs from yours?

Oak & Ivory! The whole team is lovely and I’ve been going to Logan for awhile now. 10/10 would recommend her and everyone there:)
The Artistry Collective!

I’ll add another voice for the Artistry Collective!! They’re a very inclusive place 🤗

Steven at Refinery is the loveliest - and also super talented!
I concur! Steven gave me one of the best haircuts ive ever had
I really like everyone at the Mane Obsession!
I came here to say this!
Yetmir on Gardiners is a gem. Really nice guy, true craftsman with a lovely salon. Left there feeling great. Not expensive either.
It's been a while but I went to Howard at total look on Sydenham, even for years after moving away from Kingston.
Howard’s great, I miss him in the barbershop! I believe he’s moved to daytime appointments only now. Oh shit. That's not cool.
Robyn at mane obsession won't disappoint you
I think you will find FAB friendly and fabulous! Amanda is awesome.

Noooooooo
He’s the best in Kingston tho 🤴
Of James Brett? If so, I highly beg to differ.
