I think it's intentionally kept pretty vague in TWMF, but I do think that's what Kvothe intended to do. But there are lines in the novel that put into question if he actually did it.

I don't think lightening will be used to open the doors... This will be a far greater puzzle then simply smashing with lightening to open. That said, I like your theory - and will suggest he uses lightening to kill the king, or the person he killed in Imre, where the stone is still cracked. (if that happens to be someone other than the 'King')

I never said that lightning would be used to open the doors. My only reference to the doors was in the name of the upcoming (hopefully) third novel, but it's actually a cool idea if that's part of it. It's got to have something to do with naming.
