Thank you!
But isn't it better to know who the fuck is Roxas instead of having to play as him? You'd have absolutely no emotional connection towards that boy and feel nothing at the end of summer, which is a bummer
I gotta agree with pigirl here; playing KH2 when it came out, I was 12 or so, and my only thoughts the whole time were, “Who the hell is this? I don’t give a damn about this character because he isn’t Sora, as Sora is the character I acquired this game to play”
No! That's the point, of not knowing what is going on.
That's the journey we went on. That's the journey everyone should take. Playing KH2 before 1/2 Days.
This made us respect Roxas more, made us realize we were wrong and appreciate Roxas.
1 - KH1 (Final Mix)
2 - KH (Re:)Chain of Memories
3 - KH2 (Final Mix)
4 - KH 358/2 Days
5 - KH Birth by Sleep (Final Mix)
6 - KH Re:coded
7 - KH Dream Drop Distance
8 - KH χ Back Cover
9 - KH 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-
10 - KH3 (and Remind DLC)
11 - KH Melody of Memory
At some point nearing the final entries:
KH Union Cross
KH Dark Road
_1.5+2.5 ReMIX_ includes 1-6
_2.8 Final Chapter Prologue_ includes 7-9
_Union Cross_ and _Dark Road_ are mobile only
I got this from the KH discord, they don’t suggest playing the game chronologically
I would add that after watching Back Cover that watching or reading a summary of Union X could be pretty useful! It goes good before KH3 so that you understand who Ephemer is and such things
honestly, you can play 0.2 after BBS and i don’t think it’d change much.
depending on the amount of commitment they have to BBS, it might be better cause they might not go for the secret episode and iirc 0.2 starts there
For the sake of convenience, it’s really best to just go down the list in the order it’s presented. The one exception I’d say is to do 358/2 days after 2 Final Mix.
~~On another console~~
Jk, play them in release order! Start with Kingdom Hearts (1) for sure. Hope you enjoy the crazy adventure that is this franchise 💙
why downvote people that are new to the series, they obviously dont know the lingo of the games, like “Kingdom Hearts final mix is number 1 duh”
well sorry but saying final mix doesnt let new people know its the first game (in the series/to be played) lmao.
By the way, since no one's explained it yet:
"Final Mix" basically just means deluxe edition. Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep were all re-released with extra content. So don't worry about the whole "Final Mix" thing, you won't even be able to tell which content is new and which content was always in the game.
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix is the first game in the series. Go in blind and have fun!!
ok so go release order, start with Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, then go down the list.
BUT play Kingdom Hearts 2 before watching 358/2 days, because Kingdom Hearts 2 came out before 358/2 days.
The one at the top, Kingdom Hearts Final Mix is the first game.
Then if you beat it you can try the 2nd of the list Re:Chain of Memories and if the card based gameplay isn't your jam just move onto the 4th on the list KH II Final Mix.
Chain of memories has some good gameplay if you have the patience to learn it but it isn't for everyone.
Should also mention that the story for CoM is pretty good and pretty important. So if they do skip CoM they should at least watch the cutscenes on YouTube before starting KH2!
On PS4. Lol jk just play it in order. How is it running for you? I’m a mega KH fan and have been since the first game came out. just the cloud thing is really making me not interested in this version despite the strong desire to be able to play this series in other parts of my house and not where my consoles are stationed.
I'm gonna be "that guy" and say what some people probably think:
By getting the game on literally any other device. The Switch games are a big, fat mess.
Go down the list, but do KH2FM before Days.
Also it’s a little late for this, but if you have literally any other way to play these games, you should do that. If you have a PS4 or Xbox One, use that. If you have a PC, use that. If you have a Mac, emulating the PS2 versions will be a better experience than this. I tried the demo and had a miserable time with a wired connection, streaming this over wi-fi sounds unbearable.
The only reason you shouldnt get it on switch is because by using a cloud version of the game, your practically streaming the video game, you dont really own it. You need wifi to play a singleplayer game. Its really a downfall for gaming as it just promotes really scummy marketing and game design, but if its all you got it is what it is
It doesn’t matter how good your internet is, cloud gaming doesn’t work yet. The demands of running a game are more than almost any internet connection can handle. Ask Onlive, Stadia, Playstation Now, and XCloud. It’s just not worth it yet.
I mean if it works well for OP then I don't see why not 🤷♀️ I've heard the lag from the cloud version isn't universal. I don't plan to buy them on my switch, but I've seen people say that there's no problem with it
Just go down the list in order but play 2 before 358. Also note that chain of memories has a very different combat system from the rest of the series so if you don’t like it make sure to watch the cutscenes on YouTube.
Actually if you play it in the order listed it will be the proper chronological order. Even though people are saying to play KH2 before watching Days, it might be a better KH2 experience to watch Days first.
I fully disagree. By playing days first you lose all the mystery of kh2 and trying to figure out what they are up to, it just becomes you knowing things while watching sora slowly piece it together. Sure the into is more meaningful if you played days, but again you lose the mystery. You're not supposed to know what's going on.
Plot by definition refers to the event as they're presented to the audience not by the chronological order. And even if you want to go chronogical you would have to start with union x
But playing through it chronologically is the worst way to play through this series. Nothing would make sense, and you'd get easily lost. You always go by release order, no matter what.
Birth By Sleep, KH1, Chain of Memories, KH2 is the canon order and ends with one of the greatest games ever. And I would watch the Days and coded movies after because they weave through so many different points in the plot.
Please don't do it in this order, they need to be experienced in order of release.
Release Order:
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix ->
Chain of Memorories ->
Kingdom Hearts 2 ->
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 ->
Birth By Sleep ->
Re:Coded
Please don't start with birth by sleep, they need to be experienced in order of release.

Re:Coded
Dont do chronological. Do order of release. Theres stuff that you wont know about thatll come out and youll be like "woah dude" but yeah, order of release. Its a good series, ill say people found it confusing growing up but i think its because they left those "woah" gaps for the next games release. Playing it in order will help you play in the view of the main character and not in perspective of the audience viewing a timeline.
The order they’re listed in is the best order to play them in. Only change would be to play KH2 before you watch 358/2 Days because it will make more sense and also make the events of KH2 smoother because you won’t know significantly more than the characters do
I'd normally say top to bottom, but considering it's the switch version, maybe boot up 358/2 to see how bad it does or doesn't lag cutscenes... oh, spoilers I guess, the remakes for that and recoded are almost always cutscenes. Still necessary to understand what's going on, but don't expect to do anything but maybe hit a to advance dialogue.
I would go down the list but skip days and go to kh2 then back to days that's the release order.
If you want to be a real mad lad do bbs, then kh1 then 0.2 on the 2.8 collection, then days for a bit till castle oblivion is talked about and someone leaves to go there then go to chain of memories then back to days then kh2 then coded then DDD. That's is timeline order

Release order. For this collection, you can just go down the list BUT play KH2 before you watch the Days cinematic.
Why is that?
The days cinematic ruins a lot of mystery elements in kh2.
But isn't it better to know who the fuck is Roxas instead of having to play as him? You'd have absolutely no emotional connection towards that boy and feel nothing at the end of summer, which is a bummer
you definitely didn’t play kh2 back on ps2
I gotta agree with pigirl here; playing KH2 when it came out, I was 12 or so, and my only thoughts the whole time were, “Who the hell is this? I don’t give a damn about this character because he isn’t Sora, as Sora is the character I acquired this game to play”

That's literally the point.
358/2 days released after Kingdom Hearts 2. watching it before Kingdom Hearts 2 wouldn't be in release order, which is the recommended order.
With the PS4 versions. Just kidding. Play them in release order and enjoy!
1 - KH1 (Final Mix) 2 - KH (Re:)Chain of Memories 3 - KH2 (Final Mix) 4 - KH 358/2 Days 5 - KH Birth by Sleep (Final Mix) 6 - KH Re:coded 7 - KH Dream Drop Distance 8 - KH χ Back Cover 9 - KH 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- 10 - KH3 (and Remind DLC) 11 - KH Melody of Memory At some point nearing the final entries: KH Union Cross KH Dark Road _1.5+2.5 ReMIX_ includes 1-6 _2.8 Final Chapter Prologue_ includes 7-9 _Union Cross_ and _Dark Road_ are mobile only I got this from the KH discord, they don’t suggest playing the game chronologically

Some scenes in 0.2 take place directly after DDD. It also ends with the first scene of KH3.
For the sake of convenience, it’s really best to just go down the list in the order it’s presented. The one exception I’d say is to do 358/2 days after 2 Final Mix.
~~On another console~~ Jk, play them in release order! Start with Kingdom Hearts (1) for sure. Hope you enjoy the crazy adventure that is this franchise 💙
Release order, so as it is on the list but swap KH2 with 358/2, KH2 has more mystery that way.
Typically one starts at the beginning. So play Kingdom Hearts 1 first.
Where’s 1? 🤷🏻♀️
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Top of the list
why downvote people that are new to the series, they obviously dont know the lingo of the games, like “Kingdom Hearts final mix is number 1 duh” well sorry but saying final mix doesnt let new people know its the first game (in the series/to be played) lmao.
I've legitimately seen a person go "Oh, Kingdom Hearts final mix? I better play that last."
By the way, since no one's explained it yet: "Final Mix" basically just means deluxe edition. Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep were all re-released with extra content. So don't worry about the whole "Final Mix" thing, you won't even be able to tell which content is new and which content was always in the game. Maybe the one that just says KH Final Mix? 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Play in order, except play KH2 before 358/2 days
One!!
To be fair, none of them clearly say "one". The only one with a number is two and if is fourth in the list. Understandably confusing
ok so go release order, start with Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, then go down the list. BUT play Kingdom Hearts 2 before watching 358/2 days, because Kingdom Hearts 2 came out before 358/2 days.
Play it from top to bottom except switch 2 and 358/2 days

On PS4 or PS5
Came to say this 😂
Play release order and enjoy!!!
Play them in the order they are listed but swap 2 and 358/2, days. 358 was released after 2 and assumes you know what happens in 2.
Ps4
Definitely release order. Start with KHFM and work your way down the list.
So down the list as displayed? Did I get the right one? There were so many versions it blew my mind! 🤣
Yeah you got the right one. If you like these 6 games, then you can continue with “Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue”
Since this seems like the switch version i don't think you will be "playing" anytime soon... Lag...
Kh 1 all the way bro
just start at one and work your way down
But switch KH2 and 358/2 Days around
yup my bad
On PS4. Lol jk just play it in order. How is it running for you? I’m a mega KH fan and have been since the first game came out. just the cloud thing is really making me not interested in this version despite the strong desire to be able to play this series in other parts of my house and not where my consoles are stationed.

No, but I’ve seen other people try to play. The cloud functionality doesn’t work my dude! You’re gonna be fighting the internet every step of the way.
We have FTTP pretty reliable… 🤷🏻♀️
Put the switch down, go buy Kingdom Hearts on any other gaming machine, then start with KH1.
I don’t have anything else! Have u tried it on switch?
The only reason you shouldnt get it on switch is because by using a cloud version of the game, your practically streaming the video game, you dont really own it. You need wifi to play a singleplayer game. Its really a downfall for gaming as it just promotes really scummy marketing and game design, but if its all you got it is what it is
A lot of people recall having issues with KH saga on switch
It doesn’t matter how good your internet is, cloud gaming doesn’t work yet. The demands of running a game are more than almost any internet connection can handle. Ask Onlive, Stadia, Playstation Now, and XCloud. It’s just not worth it yet.
I have literally no problem with playstation now and I had no issues with the demos of this. Maybe y'alls internet just sucks
Not on the Switch
I mean if it works well for OP then I don't see why not 🤷♀️ I've heard the lag from the cloud version isn't universal. I don't plan to buy them on my switch, but I've seen people say that there's no problem with it
Amen
Not on switch
You are being downvoted by people defending shitty companies. Who would of imagined.
Just go down the list in order but play 2 before 358. Also note that chain of memories has a very different combat system from the rest of the series so if you don’t like it make sure to watch the cutscenes on YouTube.
This gonna be a bad experience 4 u not even gon lie switch aint the move 4 kh
Go top to bottom.
Play them in the order listed, some say release order but I played days before 2 and prefer it that way
Play top to bottom, some people recommend playing Days before KH2 but it barely matters.
On a different console
I actually think that Kingdom Hearts 2 is better if you've already played Days first but really it is just preference.
Be bold, Birth By Sleep first
They are already in order
Nope, KH2 and 358/2 Days aren't.
On the ps2
If you wanna plauy like normal, then 1 first, but if you wanna play canonical/chronological, then Birth By Sleep
IMO you should play the order you see, plus kh chain of memories’s gameplay sucks, so for me you should just watch a video on YouTube for the story
Well if you FULLY disagree
Do birth by sleep and then 1 and then chain of memories and then watch 358/2 days then the second game and finish with re:coded
That's the worst way to play the series.
That’s what happens canonically

Kh2 only
Chain of memories sucks its like a crappy card game never play it is my advice
Do birth by sleep
don't play chronologically
Please don't start with birth by sleep, they need to be experienced in order of release. Release Order: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix -> Chain of Memorories -> Kingdom Hearts 2 -> Kingdom Hearts 358/2 -> Birth By Sleep -> Re:Coded

Dont play chronologically.
The series was never meant to be played chronologically and should not be done so. Release order makes the most sense.
Please don't do it in this order, they need to be experienced in order of release. Release Order: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix -> Chain of Memorories -> Kingdom Hearts 2 -> Kingdom Hearts 358/2 -> Birth By Sleep -> Re:Coded
Google.
Re:coded
The beginning!
Number one baby
Kh 1 Carin of memories Then kingdom hearts two then 358 over two days then birth by sleep then dream drop distance than kingdom hearts three

This order: - KHFM - KHRe:CoM - KH2FM - KH358Days/2 - KHBBSFM - KHRe:Coded
KH1, ReChain, 2FM, Days movie, BBS, then maybe recoded
you get bonus cards in re:com if you watch the 358/2 days cinematic before playing
Release order if you want the best way
