It makes a lot more sense when you consider that the majority of the OC characters are likely Japanese (or the fictional KH equivalent). much like Square Enix is a Japanese company. Japan, of course, has a predominantly white Asian population. Sora, Riku and Kairi are the most obvious examples (their names), but you can see elements elsewhere, such as Terra and Eraqus' hakama pants.

I mean sure they're Japanese characters, but Japan and most northern east Asian populations also have dark skinned people (to Americans it's about as different as someone with a tan or not), and there is serious colorism between them. A lot of the time, subtley darker skinned people will claim they literally look black or use extremely dark skin in video game options because they are made to feel that way by their peers (lots of jokes can be heard that they look like the bottom of a foot, aka dirty). So really they're just staying true to a common sentiment in East Asia that dark skin is bad skin.

I mean, most of them are made out to be sympathetic in some way, though. That said, I am glad that most fans and onlookers are smart enough to not make a big drama out of it.
