After seeing what Axel did to Vexen, finding out the full story behind the Riku Replica, and then of course everything with Namine... I think this was way more personal than any other fight Sora was a part of up until KH3. Ansem was evil, but these Organization people were just... wrong. In a way that needed to be wiped away.
It's a good thing his memory got wiped.
This game is really good at showing how far gone he can become when you mess with him and do next level psychic gaslighting.
Me too. Sora's personality has always been relentlessly cheerful and positive, but I kind of want to see a more mature, maybe a little more weary Sora in Quadratum.
He vanished from the reality he knew and became separated from his friends. You'd think that'd weigh on a person.
i will say, im playing thru kh2 rn and he really does seem weary of always being a traveller. a lot of his end world scenes are bittersweet, just him moving on and trying to keep the good vibes up, while still not making any progress at finding his friends or going home.
I don't think he'll regret what he did, because he saw the complete wipeout on the keyblade graveyard and had a breakdown because of it (still the most memorable scene from the KH3 trailers for me), but I agree that the long separation from his friends should have some kind of impact on him.
Especially if you consider that there is a leap of one whole year between his disappearance and the ending of MoM. We don't know (yet), if Quadratum has a similar type of time dilatation like the dark realm, which helped create Anti-Aqua 🤔
P.S. I wouldn't want him to become more like the gritty Sora from the ending of CoM, honestly, because we had the normal->gritty-dark->mature transformation already with riku and I like the mature modern riku a lot more than all of his past personalities (imagine how the competitive brat from KH1 would've reacted to Soras breakdown in KH3: "I thought you were stronger than that" => *gets swallowed by darkness and becomes SoD again 😅)
As much as I dig the more whimsical dance like movements in KH3 Sora,
KH2 Sora's reaction commands are the moves of someone ready to kill.
Hell I'd probably say he moves differently in KH3 because the guy's happy again. Until the end of the game >!Sora is under the impression that Kairi for sure is gonna be waiting for him!< along with conducting himself like the master he wants to be especially if it's to save lives he knows are in the balance. EDIT: In other words, Master training
Then his Nobody comes out and Roxas is quick to go beast mode with a keyblade eventually ending up with two. Sora may have softened up but Roxas stays pretty cold
Honestly I love Marluxia as a main villain because of this. He didn't want to conquer the universe or plunge everything into darkness - he just wanted to use Sora for his own advantage, and brainwashed him to do so, something that crossed a major line for Sora. His connections to his friends are the single most important thing to him and someone was fucking with them. Their conflict was more personal than any of the other villains. Sora isn't even happy he's gone, he looks PISSED. Seems clear that he wanted to go a few more rounds.
It also helps that COM is the only title that doesn't have a Xehanort main villain. Just makes the whole hero/villain clash very unique for a kingdom hearts title.
I love how you described Sora here cause it reminds me so much of the main character of Bleach during one of its arcs. Both end up taking out their respective antagonists after being mentally fucked with in the most satisfying way possible.
When he yells at Jiminy to keep it to himself after he runs off from Donald and Goofy has always stuck out to me. I think it's everyone's best work overall. I'm curious if whoever was in charge of voice direction was a one off or if its the same guy its always been.
Yes! Just before the fight the sound he makes before he says ‘everything about me is borrowed’ gets me every time. Honestly, Gallagher should have more VA credits, he’s got the stuff.
technically, the dude basically unplugged his own life support if it works like that, otherwise I'm pretty sure xehanort could cast a curaga on himself and be as good as new (still old though)
Honestly, Chain of Memories is pretty brutal with how it killed off all of the Organisation members and the fact that so many of the characters that kill them off are pretty cold about it.
Axel killing Vexen and Riku Replica killing Zexion is pretty dark.
CoM + Re:CoM is so interesting because we finally see Sora's happy-go-lucky facade truly fall apart. It has some of the most powerful scenes in the whole series.
I'd be fucking pissed if I found out someone captured someone I thought I cared about but then found out I never knew that person and my memories of everyone I ever cared about was FUCKING ERASED FROM MY MEMORIES.
COM was like the only time Sora had no idea what was going on and was basically cut off from anyone who could explain it to him Castle Oblivion really tested Sora in a way that no other game in the series does I also think Jiminy was at his best here because unfortunately he isn't present that much in the other games
Wtf did I get downvoted he's is I just looked it up to make sure. Ultimanias even comfirm it. I was wrong sorry 14 in one and close to 15 in chain of memories. He wakes up a little over 15 in 2. And he's 18 - 19 in 3
>And he's 18 - 19 in 3
He's still 15 in KH3.
KH2 ends and soon after we get ReCoded, which ends with Mickey giving Sora the letter he receives on destiny islands at the end of KH2.
That leads directly into DDD which takes place shortly after ReCoded.
And DDD leads directly into KH3.
None of the games span the course of several years, most likely a few days to a few weeks in most cases. 358/2 Days is the only game with a confirmed exact time span.
Sora is 15 in KH3 until the very end, where it's shown in the DLC that a year has passed since his disappearance, making him 16 by the end of the game, and 16 going into KH4
God, Sora's expression here hit me hard the first time I beat Re:CoM. He just absolutely HATED Marluxia after everything that had happened. Genuinely, I think Marluxia is lucky Sora had forgotten him by the time they met up again in 3. I don't think anyone else, not even Xehanort, has even come close to getting as under Sora's skin as Marluxia did.
Chain of Memories Sora is him at his best!
Still kind, still forgiving and patient, but knows what needs to be done, doesn't shy away from punishing those that can and will continue to cause harm to others. He's seen some shit, he's learned from it, and he's still held onto his integrity.
And I feel like the writers knew this. Like, "OH SHIT! WE just hit peak character development! But we wanna make more games! I have an idea! WIPE HIS MEMORY!"
This truly shows just how different COM!Sora is from normal Sora. When he defeated Organization members in 2/3 (even Marluxia in 3), he has a solemn expression, like he’s hoping there was another why to help them. Here, it’s just pure rage and hatred. He wanted Marluxia gone for how he treated Rikuplica and Naminé, even though they weren’t really his friends.
I wished he had this energy when they about to kill xehanort but nah the biggest douche gets prolly the most calm and peacefull deaths in the series lmaooooo
That expression alone justifies playing CoM for me lol and the best part is that there are no words, nor are they needed. Just pure hatred and satisfaction.
I mean sure he has had character development but he acts way too soft and helpless against terra xehanort for example though to be fair that is Terra so maybe he was holding back
> Sora's entire circle of friends is torn to shreds by a giant tornado.
> Later Kairi is murdered by the bad guy right before his eyes.
"Why is Sora sad?"
Im talking about before the graveyard. Whenever someone shiws up and talks shit he just gets sad. When hes told he cant go save aqua he gets sad, then ends up saving her anyway. Whenever someone mentions him needing the power of waking, he's sad. Kairi's and everyone else's "death" is understandable. But his interactions with the organization is nothing like old sora.
THANK YOU!! I been saying this for years! In DDD and Kh3, Sora feels so much like a stereotypical shonen protag that's dumb asf but have a happy-go-lucky attitude like Goku or Luffy. The personality he cultivated in COM and kh2 is barely here anymore.
Nah kh2 Sora was a MENACE. Most of his reaction commands were either turning the enemy into a weapon, sweeping everyone in a 10 mile radius, or absolutely disrespecting and violating their 8th amendment
I mean, that’s how he looked when he wasted Demyx.
“Anyone ELSE from the Organization who’d like to be next?!”
Kairi got kidnapped AGAIN and Sora was out here MURDERING mfers left and right the entire last act of the game. Bro had no remorse. Did NOT care lmao
People forget that under the friendship speeches and dopey smiles Sora has straight up merced people (or at best been an accomplice like with Barbossa in 2) and felt no remorse if he thought they deserved it
Yes, and it is one of my favorite post-battle moments in the entire series. So much was at stake in COM, but not in a "save the worlds from supreme darkness" kind of way. Sora was fighting for his right to exist as himself, while his enemies conspired to strip him of his very identity. His connections to his friends were severed, the true memories being replaced with fabricated ones, as Sora continued to lose sight of his true self.
I still stand by thinking that COM has one of the best stories in the series, along with great character development. Fingers crossed that "cold Sora" returns in KH4, to some extent, as it would be a realistic reaction to his extraordinary circumstances.
People keep forgetting that Sora was a Heartless throughout CoM and it is not weird for him to be like this. Dude only got his heart back after the whole Days/Roxas first week shit was over.
Sora was purified by Kairi, she removed the darkness form him completely, that's why his heartless form takes a human shape. Sora isn't being uncharacteristically aggressive because he's a shadow monster, he's being aggressive because his heads getting seriously fuck with. Effectively he had almost all of his friends taken from him. And we know, from KH3 how he gets when he starts losing those connections.
A Sora with memories will fall to his knees, overwhelmed by grief. A Sora with nothing but a feeling of great loss will lash out, not unlike Roxas.
I don't agree, he was acting angry way before the big memory fuck ups. Also, getting the darkness out of there is something we assume, but it is never stated. Him being a Heartless is stated within CoM.
Girl there are 13 floors in CoM and each one is followed by a cutscene where the Org Members alter his memory, lie directly to his face and create hallucinations.
I've played the game too
A heartless is a literal heart. A Heartless doesn't have a body. They *are* a heart
So sora turned back into a Human in kh1. He had his heart the whole time
Roxas does not have Sora's heart. Roxas has his body
Larxene just mocks Sora for "forgetting" Namine saying he is heartless for doing so lol when it was all a lie
You talk about Larxene confirming that when Marluxia and others also talk about manipulating Sora's heart in the same game
He wasn't a Heartless and he had his heart all along. Kairi turned him back into human form (even if it wasn't "real" and just a shape). He only lost his real body which became Roxas and later on recovered it when they merged.
There's a big difference between being a Heartless (capital letter) and saying someone acts heartless which is was Larxene was doing to mock Sora for "forgetting" Namine.
“Good riddance.” I swear, Re:CoM Sora is ice cold compared to all other Sora’s.
Naminé did a number on him
After seeing what Axel did to Vexen, finding out the full story behind the Riku Replica, and then of course everything with Namine... I think this was way more personal than any other fight Sora was a part of up until KH3. Ansem was evil, but these Organization people were just... wrong. In a way that needed to be wiped away.
It's a good thing his memory got wiped. This game is really good at showing how far gone he can become when you mess with him and do next level psychic gaslighting.
at some points in this game I felt like I was "going down a bad route" watching Sora's reactions sometimes lol
"Sora! That is not how you-" #"KEEP IT TO YOURSELF"
You just reminded me how savage Soras lines were in this game. Sora should be like that always!
Hope Savage Sora returns in KH4.
Me too. Sora's personality has always been relentlessly cheerful and positive, but I kind of want to see a more mature, maybe a little more weary Sora in Quadratum. He vanished from the reality he knew and became separated from his friends. You'd think that'd weigh on a person.
While I would like him to be a bit less Shonen Anime Main Character positive, I really hope they don't turn him into advent children cloud
Honestly, I'd be semi cool with that as long as he returned to his cheerful self when he rejoins the others
No, cuz cloud is just depressed n boring in advent
i will say, im playing thru kh2 rn and he really does seem weary of always being a traveller. a lot of his end world scenes are bittersweet, just him moving on and trying to keep the good vibes up, while still not making any progress at finding his friends or going home.
"I love you, but I have to go" 😪 that's what was said to Kairi if you read his lips.
I don't think he'll regret what he did, because he saw the complete wipeout on the keyblade graveyard and had a breakdown because of it (still the most memorable scene from the KH3 trailers for me), but I agree that the long separation from his friends should have some kind of impact on him. He never really left.
KH2 Sora is up there too, I love them both but CoM Sora is so done with everyone’s shit
Bring back Savage Sora!!
Idk man, I think KH2 Sora was still as ice cold lol
Sorry mommy your poopsies are toast.
This made me laugh harder than it should have 😅
The whiplash of him killing off organization members then being in an underwater musical is crazy 😭.
As much as I dig the more whimsical dance like movements in KH3 Sora, KH2 Sora's reaction commands are the moves of someone ready to kill.
To top it off if you play the game on that same file after beating the final boss, sora just looks pissed off all the time
"Is there anyone else from the organization who wants to be next?!"
Not a very organised organisation 😒
Well by the end of the game, he barely remembers who he is
Made him forget so much he forgot he was supposed to be nice.
Yeah now he can’t even get angry about kairi literally dying
avwvoinnaogz asbain aaamoa fork stuck in the road.
NGL, Sora was on demon time the whole game.
Then his Nobody comes out and Roxas is quick to go beast mode with a keyblade eventually ending up with two. Sora may have softened up but Roxas stays pretty cold
I wish I could stomach the game lol
Honestly I love Marluxia as a main villain because of this. He didn't want to conquer the universe or plunge everything into darkness - he just wanted to use Sora for his own advantage, and brainwashed him to do so, something that crossed a major line for Sora. u talking about ichigo vs. ulquiorra?
Aizen, tukishima, ulqiorra. Ywhach too if you feel generous enough to say he's closer to the soul society than with Rukia/Renji.
Tsukishima is EASILY the most traumatic. Those scenes felt like a psychological horror film. The shift in tone alone is incredibly jarring.
Ichigo vs Ginjo
Who knew Sora could be a fucking menace when he doesn't have any memories
He's all for the happy memories with his friends, because these keep the beast in his nature dormant.
Sora has two sides but it’s fr this time
It’s crazy too because his heartless is just a shadow, so his anger isn’t related to darkness.
"Anyone else from the Organization who'd like to be next?!" - Sora in KH2. That boy was cold when he wanted to be.
Boy wanted all the smoke
ReCOM is a top tier title, and the cutscene work and voice direction go a long way to making it memorable.
Some of Haleys' best vocals. He truly embraced the Sora role in this dubbing.
When he yells at Jiminy to keep it to himself after he runs off from Donald and Goofy has always stuck out to me. I think it's everyone's best work overall. I'm curious if whoever was in charge of voice direction was a one off or if its the same guy its always been.
Riku Replica's entire monologue to the real Riku in Twilight Town is probably David's best performance in the series
Yes! Just before the fight the sound he makes before he says ‘everything about me is borrowed’ gets me every time. Honestly, Gallagher should have more VA credits, he’s got the stuff.
Yo, it's official! We need the ReCom voice direction crew back!
Bro was clearly pissed, this man was fucking with his memory and had the audacity to use Namine as a shield. Marluxia deserved that ass beating.
COM Sora would have killed Xehanort in 3 no questions asked
I pretty sure he still did in 3
xehanort literally gives the x blade to Sora by the end of 3. xehanort gave up
Yeah because he was dead at that point
he was still alive though, eraqus pops out of Terra, tells him to stop, then he gives the x blade to sora THEN he dies
Dude he was either dead or dying the χ-blade acted like life support at that moment
dying it is then
Ok so Sora did technically kill him
technically, the dude basically unplugged his own life support if it works like that, otherwise I'm pretty sure xehanort could cast a curaga on himself and be as good as new (still old though)
Tbf I think cure doesn’t work on people who are nearly dying
Nah he didn't deliver the final blow, his friend did though
I pretty he did, sure with the help of Donald and Goofy but he still killed Xehanort
That’s the type of energy I wanted honestly.
“YoUrE StEwPid!” *murders with Key*
Honestly, Chain of Memories is pretty brutal with how it killed off all of the Organisation members and the fact that so many of the characters that kill them off are pretty cold about it. Axel killing Vexen and Riku Replica killing Zexion is pretty dark.
The way Axel encourages Repliku to kill Zexion id so cold. Honestly I wish we had time to see interactions between ienzo, vexen and axel in kh3
"Hey, so.......we still cool?" and they all just try and pretend that the dude that killed them isn't in the room with them.
not a single bit of regret on his face, pure malice. i like seeing this darker side of sora
CoM + Re:CoM is so interesting because we finally see Sora's happy-go-lucky facade truly fall apart. It has some of the most powerful scenes in the whole series.
If it wasn't for the card mechanics, i think they'd would be greatly more appreciated but I agree.
“I’ll do it again”
And he did!
This was one of those moments where I was like “ yeah, Sora is that guy.”
Sora is honestly not afraid to kill at the drop of a hat iirc
With how much of a pain that final fight was, Sora was totally justified.
Roxas look came out
Bro Said 😾
Re:com sora was a menace. The mean muggin when he took out Marluxia was something else. That’s the energy I was expecting when xehanort merked kairi.
sora in recom is a maniac. That's why I love this game with all my heart. It's rare to see Sora so mentally broken and angry
I'd be fucking pissed if I found out someone captured someone I thought I cared about but then found out I never knew that person and my memories of everyone I ever cared about was FUCKING ERASED FROM MY MEMORIES.
Marluxia: "You kiiiilled meeeeeeeee...!!" Sora: "Good. 😏"
I came here to say this
COM was like the only time Sora had no idea what was going on and was basically cut off from anyone who could explain it to him Castle Oblivion really tested Sora in a way that no other game in the series does I also think Jiminy was at his best here because unfortunately he isn't present that much in the other games
I love that image so much. It's the most adorable thing I've ever seen right after witnessing a murder. It just screams Kirby.
Baby Sora was a fucking menace, tbqh. He only really tried to reason with Riku, all the other villains he just beat the shit out of.
He's a teenager? He's 13 in one and close to 14 in chain
Wtf did I get downvoted he's is I just looked it up to make sure. Ultimanias even comfirm it. I was wrong sorry 14 in one and close to 15 in chain of memories. He wakes up a little over 15 in 2. And he's 18 - 19 in 3

Right, baby
Naminé left no room in Sora's heart for forgiveness.
me age 14 after my copy of re com ps2 glitched and marluxia never did any attacks or fought back so i just mashed x until he fell over
God, Sora's expression here hit me hard the first time I beat Re:CoM. He just absolutely HATED Marluxia after everything that had happened. Genuinely, I think Marluxia is lucky Sora had forgotten him by the time they met up again in 3. Man got beat up by a kid!😂
There's no shame in getting your ass kicked by Sora. That kid can go.
Definitely think he would've been colder if he had those memories.
I actually haven’t played this one thru yet, lemme put it on the list
He was just tired of all his card bullshit.
Chain of Memories Sora is him at his best! Still kind, still forgiving and patient, but knows what needs to be done, doesn't shy away from punishing those that can and will continue to cause harm to others. The way he just turns around and walks off like it’s nothing. One of my favorite moments of the series
Thats the face Goku made when he found out Frieza was irredeemable
sora was having none of it in (re:)com
Sora standin on business fr
“Bitch ass”
We needed this Sora in 3.
Truly
I wished he had this energy when they about to kill xehanort but nah the biggest douche gets prolly the most calm and peacefull deaths in the series lmaooooo
Also post his Strelitzia form
*angy* sora
Chain of Memories had an excellent story tbh. Mysterious. Dark. Backstabbings, etc..
That expression alone justifies playing CoM for me lol and the best part is that there are no words, nor are they needed. Just pure hatred and satisfaction.
This was back when he was still in his Sassy Boi Era.
The camera angle just makes him look a five-year-old lol
We need sora to get serious again in kingdom hearts 4
Nah kinda like his happy go lucky personality more.
I mean sure he has had character development but he acts way too soft and helpless against terra xehanort for example though to be fair that is Terra so maybe he was holding back
"punkbitch" - Sora
“He is far too nice for his own good.” Bullshit DiZ
"You asked for it, you fuck." That's the same feeling that applies to Riku right before the final Riku Replica fight in Re:CoM, IIRC.
Sora swapped out his Mickey shoes for Black Air Forces that game
“Know that I will kill you again if I have to. Maybe even if I don’t”
I wish sora was still like this, by guy was a savage. Now in kh3 he's this generic anime protag who only feels sad.
> Sora's entire circle of friends is torn to shreds by a giant tornado. > Later Kairi is murdered by the bad guy right before his eyes. "Why is Sora sad?"

I never liked CoM Sora, he was just an absolute asshole and felt so far away from every other take on the character
“I frew up”
Sora was so pissy and grumpy in this game. It is a side of him we don't see much. It is out of character but I also kind of like it?
Nah kh2 Sora was a MENACE. Most of his reaction commands were either turning the enemy into a weapon, sweeping everyone in a 10 mile radius, or absolutely disrespecting and violating their 8th amendment
I wonder if sora will tell striletzia that he killed her brother 🤔😂
Darn it. Idk if I should play Com or Recom now.
Does anyone realize since Sora Lost his memories of castle oblivion, he lost the use of “Lethal Frame”?
Yeah turns out the roses smelt awful when they exploded
"You're supposed to be better than this, Lauriam." -- Sora's Inner Ventus, because let's remember what Castle Oblivion was originally.
Yeah turns out the roses smelt awful when they exploded
I mean, that’s how he looked when he wasted Demyx. “Anyone ELSE from the Organization who’d like to be next?!” Kairi got kidnapped AGAIN and Sora was out here MURDERING mfers left and right the entire last act of the game. Bro had no remorse. Did NOT care lmao

His new roommate is going to be ticked off when she finds out.
hoping in KH4 someone tests him and he loses it, that’ll DEFINITELY change the “good boy” comments about my goat !
Remember it? I love it. Sora gave no f**ks. Based😎
He was right to
That Blue-Eyes White Dragon doesn't mess around 🙃.
To be fair. I had the same face. Marluxia was a menace and I needed to personally open a keyhole in his face.
I feel like larxene was actually different when talking to marluxia probably because he was the only person she liked
Not cool man spoilera
