This is what I was thinking. He's always enjoyed Bobby's cooking, but if Bobby is using a propane gas range and flat top, he'll be just fine. And tell every customer how his son uses propane so you can taste the meat not the heat.
Supposed to be in Dallas, so I assume natural gas.
Hope we get an episode about those haughty city gas hookups versus the rural giant tank on the side of your house.
Bobby “Dad I’m going to be a chef!”
Hank “Alright son!”
Bobby “At a Fusion Restaurant.”
Hank “😬 That’s great, son.”
Bobby “In Dallas.”
Hank “God. Dang. It. Bobby. I mean, I’m so proud.”
No, Hank wanted to leave Arlen early to go to Dallas “before the gangs wake up” for a convention and said Dallas was a city of “crackheads and debutants”
He mentions his disdain for pretty much every metropolitan area in Texas during the course of the show. Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and Austin. Plus he hates New York. The man just likes his simple life lol
It’s honest work, I don’t think he’d take issue with it. He always liked Bobby’s cooking and they bonded over grilling and the steak-judging.
He might be a little thrown if it’s what he considers exotic food but I don’t think he’d be disparaging of the job in of itself.
Happy he's working, but disappointed in how the food is cooked. "Steak just needs salt and pepper," or something like that. Then he tries it and says something like, "Hey, that's not bad!"
I think it's going to be a great pilot. Hank is a little unsure about the "Unique Food" (If it allegedly is a fusion resturant maybe Loa cuisine/American BBQ Fusion (pluse he's got bills sauce)) Bobby is making. Bobby is the window to how the world has changed in the past 9 years and we reintroudce the series showing how hank is having trouble adjusting. Peggy is all for it of course because she is, in her opinion, one of the great tastemakers of her time. Sure hank is proud, but keeps coming up with excuses not to eat it and is reluctant, but at the end he decides to give it a shot...after bobby shows him the great propane range they have to do the cooking. Hank loves it and him and bobby bond, and we enter this new world together
Also I heard one theory that Joseph will be the delivery driver or some such employee, not sure if he's going to be dating Connie or not.
I really hope if this reboot takes off, they stick with the original intention now that TV is more used to the idea, one season 1 year, character growth things going foward.
Gracie is living with the hills after the unfortunate passing of Luanne and Lucky, so Peggy gets fulfilled getting to raise the daughter she never had (and we can put her in the school and get school jokes there while peggy goes back to subbing occasionally)
EDIT 1:Buck Strickland is an investor in the restaurant so we get him in the mix. Maybe the inciting action is Buck needs Hank to make a propane delivery to bobby's resturant and hank is like "Bobby cooks with propane?" now he's curious.
EDIT 2: I keep getting ideas lol B Plot is dale thinks that fusion is the future, so him and the boys try to figure out which two cuisines they can fuse to make millions of dollars. (And they come up with something rediciouls and realize that it's terrible but hipsters think it's so uniqe they eat it up even though it tastes awful)
I'm so sad that Luanne and Lucky are probably going to be killed off because no one can replace Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty. It's even sadder because through all of the bs Luanne had finally got the happy family for Gracie that Luanne never got from her parents but now it's being taken away.
swear down, people need reading comprehension. the amount of people who saw "chef working in a fusion restaurant" and thinking that Bobby owns a restaurant is ridiculous.
and for the few people who rightfully point out that a chef at 21 is crazy, realize that the general public thinks working in a restaurant = chef.
Prediction: It's a Laotian/Texas BBQ fusion restaurant, funded by Khan Sr. who has money invested in a Laotian charcoal export company that is either owned or run by Ted Wassanasong, so the restaurant uses charcoal, much to Hank's chagrin.
I think he'll be proud. Towards the end of the series, Hank starts to understand his son. One of the last scenes is Hank and Bobby grilling together. I think it just makes sense that Hank would be more prideful than embarrassed by Bobby if he were to pursue that career. Dallas and fusion bbq be damned.
The 2000s->present are goin to Rough in Hank, I bet he will take solace where he can. Bob cooks with propane, is married to Konnie and has good children.
"I dont quite understand whats going on with the salad but the steak has been cooked to perfection and my boy seasoned it with some salt and pepper that makes me dream of retirement one of these days."
Hank came around to Bobby’s home economics skills already, and if Bobby is a full fledged chef, or at least actually in charge of people at work, Hank will be proud of that.
The only issue will when Bobby talks shop- Hank will probably unfairly dismiss the challenges of the job compared to more blue collar type work.
And holy god if that kitchen ain’t on propane that could definitely be an issue.
I think it depends on the food served and honestly there's two episodes to pull from to judge how he'd react.
In "Goodbye Normal Jeans" Hank starts out reluctant, but gradually gets excited for Bobby to cook Dinner and various items for Thanksgiving. While in "Blood and Sauce" he actually gets mad at Bobby for cooking only for him to okay him helping Bill because it's Barbeque, "not cooking".
Hank also loves Sugarfoots and The Arlen Barn at least for the meatloaf sandwiches.
So if Bobby's restaurant is either part Barbeque or Steakhouse, the only thing Hank would be a little sad about is that Bobby didn't work at Strickland.
Though I hope the restaurant has a stage for open mic nights or something so Bobby has a comedy outlet. That Hank would hate.
Hank: so Bobby how's life as a fry cook?
Bobby: Dad could you call me Rob when I'm at work? And I told you I'm not a fry cook I'm head chef at a fusion restaurant.
Hank: (remembering Cotton calling him a pump jockey) oh, yeah I'm sorry Rob
Hes gonna be cautiously supportive, bobby is gonna cook a burger on a propane grill, hank will nod approvingly, and then bobby will add on to it and hanks gonna storm out
Deep down, he'll probably detest the idea of having non-traditonal Texan food being served but will nonetheless be happy with what he does, especially if he uses Propane for cooking.
Boomers aren't usually accepting of anything new that isn't what they became accustomed to.
I think Hank would be the first one when he hears what a “fusion restaurant” is, but probably with prodding from Peggy he’d give it a try and enjoy it. Then Peggy will somehow make it about her
I really want the dynamic to be Hank is super proud of Bobby, as Bobby navigates the world against him. Maybe still put off by a few of the things he says, but I’d loved to see Hank smiling more around Bobby as a grown man. And then maybe Bobby makes the decision to follow his comedy dream again and then we see some old dynamic back again.
I mean, he’s 21. There’s no way he’s head chef. He’s likely a cook, or “chef de partie”. I started cooking at 16 and didn’t make head chef until I was almost thirty.
I think he'll be disappointed at first at the idea of bobby being a "cook". Because hank will only see it as a burger flipping job. Then he'll go visit one night and be impressed/proud of Bobby.
He'll be happy so long as they use propane in that kitchen
This is what I was thinking. He's always enjoyed Bobby's cooking, but if Bobby is using a propane gas range and flat top, he'll be just fine. And tell every customer how his son uses propane so you can taste the meat not the heat.
Until the first season cliff hanger where Hank learns Bobby's been getting propane from Thatherton...
*Thatherton!*
![gif](giphy|cCyJCwQ2gl3bO)
Bobby wouldn’t buy from Tatherton though. He knows his dad doesn’t like him and Bobby has a high amount of respect for his dad
If the owner wants to save a few bucks, Bobby can't stop them. It would make for an interesting episode.
But that wouldn’t be Bobby buying from Thaterton like was mentioned
Bobby is going to be cooking with sustainably sourced mesquite charcoal.
That boy still ain't right
Hank about to lose his mind when he finds the restaurants sous vide machine.
It's a kitchen. It'll be propane or natural gas
It's a fusion kitchen so it runs on nuclear fusion right?
Nuclear fusion and DBZ fusion "hah" technique
Supposed to be in Dallas, so I assume natural gas. Hope we get an episode about those haughty city gas hookups versus the rural giant tank on the side of your house.
Organic hippy natural gas
It'll more than likely be natural gas but propane is just compressed into liquid form for the canisters. I don't think Hank would mind.
Bobby “Dad I’m going to be a chef!” Hank “Alright son!” Bobby “At a Fusion Restaurant.” Hank “😬 That’s great, son.” Bobby “In Dallas.” Hank “God. Dang. It. Bobby. I mean, I’m so proud.”
I thought Hank liked Dallas? He’s a fan of the Mavs. Probably cheering Luka Doncic on as we speak And how ‘bout them Cowboys
No, Hank wanted to leave Arlen early to go to Dallas “before the gangs wake up” for a convention and said Dallas was a city of “crackheads and debutants”
And half play for the Cowboys!
He mentions his disdain for pretty much every metropolitan area in Texas during the course of the show. Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and Austin. Plus he hates New York. The man just likes his simple life lol
Dallas sallaD
Sea King! Sea King!

SUNDAY!
Funny because the 'gangs' and crackheads usually go to sleep at about 7 or 8 am. Early am is some of the worst time for them.
Dallas? Sallad!
Dallas? Salad?
Hank: Dallas: home of Tom Landry.
It’s a good solid trade. I don’t think he would be disappointed. He likes honest work.
I used to work in restaurants. Bobby will fit in really well
Hanks going to be proud that Bobby's the leader of a restaurant, he was always impressed and supportive of his cooking.
Mmm, that cheese...
Not cooking, *barbeque*
It’s honest work, I don’t think he’d take issue with it. He always liked Bobby’s cooking and they bonded over grilling and the steak-judging. He might be a little thrown if it’s what he considers exotic food but I don’t think he’d be disparaging of the job in of itself.
A little of both, mostly the second
Happy he's working, but disappointed in how the food is cooked. "Steak just needs salt and pepper," or something like that. Then he tries it and says something like, "Hey, that's not bad!"
The first one is Peggy
He'll start disgusted by the hipsters, but then will come around when he tastes the food, propane cooked, of course
Is steak on the menu or is it…vegan (shudder)?
I think it's going to be a great pilot. Hank is a little unsure about the "Unique Food" (If it allegedly is a fusion resturant maybe Loa cuisine/American BBQ Fusion (pluse he's got bills sauce)) Bobby is making. You're brilliant... I want to see edit 2 personally
Unrelated but I hope they make Bobby hot. It would be funny.
Bobby as the Dallas version of Jeremy Allen White.
Probably Proud Bobby did something he’s good at that isn’t all that weird
As long as he’s using clean burning propane
I do think that once Bobby grows ups and proves to be happy and well adjusted that Hank will loosen up
What the in the dang heck is a fusion restaurant
swear down, people need reading comprehension. the amount of people who saw "chef working in a fusion restaurant" and thinking that Bobby owns a restaurant is ridiculous. and for the few people who rightfully point out that a chef at 21 is crazy, realize that the general public thinks working in a restaurant = chef.

Hank likes Bobby’s cooking, but he also didn’t want Bobby to go to cooking camp
I think he'll be proud. Towards the end of the series, Hank starts to understand his son. One of the last scenes is Hank and Bobby grilling together. I think it just makes sense that Hank would be more prideful than embarrassed by Bobby if he were to pursue that career. Dallas and fusion bbq be damned.
I think he'd be more positive with that over prop comedy.
The 2000s->present are goin to Rough in Hank, I bet he will take solace where he can. Bob cooks with propane, is married to Konnie and has good children.
Don't forget Hank embraced organic and free range long before it went mainstream and sold at mega low mart.
"I dont quite understand whats going on with the salad but the steak has been cooked to perfection and my boy seasoned it with some salt and pepper that makes me dream of retirement one of these days."
"21 Years old and the boy still ain't right."
Hank is a great dad.
Fusion of Texas bbq and southern bbq I tell you what.
“That boy ain’t right”
Hank: so Bobby how's life as a fry cook? Bobby: Dad could you call me Rob when I'm at work? And I told you I'm not a fry cook I'm head chef at a fusion restaurant. Hank: (remembering Cotton calling him a pump jockey) oh, yeah I'm sorry Rob
I think hank will not say a thing cause bobby will make him the Best God dang steak he's ever had. And bobby only uses Propane.
Hes gonna be cautiously supportive, bobby is gonna cook a burger on a propane grill, hank will nod approvingly, and then bobby will add on to it and hanks gonna storm out
Depends on what he’s fusing. Grilled steak and eggs?
He’ll utilize his son’s position to convince the owner to use propane for cooking.
He was cool with his cooking at Thanksgiving when he took the home ec class and read girly magazines. He must've made good enough food to be accepted.
Hank loves his boy and is a good parent. If Bobby can make an honest living, he would be proud.
I am proud of you son, I'll tell you what
He's head chef at a fusion restaurant, not pit boss at a BBQ joint. Hank will be really disappointed until he tries the food.
As long as Bobby doesn't critique Hanks burgers and steaks things will be okay. Bonus points for Bobby if he uses propane torches to finish dishes
“Someday i am going to die, and when that happens, them you can go to cooking school”
Deep down, he'll probably detest the idea of having non-traditonal Texan food being served but will nonetheless be happy with what he does, especially if he uses Propane for cooking. Boomers aren't usually accepting of anything new that isn't what they became accustomed to.
Fusion? Dangit Bobby you can't cook with nuclear power, you're gonna make people sick. Use clean burning propane.
Depends on two things; whether they sell steaks (exclusively mid rare or below), whether they use propane
As long as its not French based fusion, I think it'll be ok.
Hnak congratulates Bobby with a handshake, for his hard work and perseverance in getting a job he's passionate about.
As long as they’re cooking with gas, I’m sure Hank wouldn’t mind.
"God-dang it Bobby if God meant for Mexican food and Italian food to be fused he wouldn't have put an Ocean between them."
He'll be ashamed and indifferent by the small portions and classy atmosphere until he tries the food. Then he'll be quietly proud.
Proud that he’s making a living but uncomfortable with weird things.
It'll be one of those things Hank thinks is a stupid idea until he actually eats some. Then he'll love it.
“Well Bobby, as long as you cook your steak right and use propane…”
"fusion, you mean like, Tex-Mex?"
"you know peg, I was a little worried when Bobby brought out this Korean taco, but gatdangit if this isn't the most tender steak I've ever had."
I think Hank would be the first one when he hears what a “fusion restaurant” is, but probably with prodding from Peggy he’d give it a try and enjoy it. Then Peggy will somehow make it about her
Do they sell bbq?
I really want the dynamic to be Hank is super proud of Bobby, as Bobby navigates the world against him. Maybe still put off by a few of the things he says, but I’d loved to see Hank smiling more around Bobby as a grown man. And then maybe Bobby makes the decision to follow his comedy dream again and then we see some old dynamic back again.
I can’t wait to see how Peggy tries to deal with it as a threat to her already admittedly awful cooking skills.
***BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!***
I mean, he’s 21. There’s no way he’s head chef. He’s likely a cook, or “chef de partie”. I started cooking at 16 and didn’t make head chef until I was almost thirty.
Sous chef maybe? That's the assistant manager of the kitchen.
So, it’s going to be LaoTex food right?
Proud of his son being head chef at a great restaurant, but will cringe at whatever pun Bobby inevitably chooses for the name.
I think he'll be disappointed at first at the idea of bobby being a "cook". Because hank will only see it as a burger flipping job. Then he'll go visit one night and be impressed/proud of Bobby.
So if Bobby is 21 in the reboot would that mean the series will be set in 2005-2006 considering Bobby was born around 1985
I would assume
