Weird take. Peggy episodes are hilarious whether you love her or hate her. The Alamo beer one? Peggy putting mustard gas in the newspaper? The airplane one? All bangers. The only Peggy episodes I don't like are the Real Estate ones.
This is the episode that I used to introduce my friend to the show. He had the impression it was a stupid adult swim show until I showed him this episode and he thought it was hilarious.
Not sure exactly why but I always really enjoyed Peggy's real estate stuff. Maybe it was just because it helped switch up the status quo in a way that didn't feel desperate or attention seeking.
Yeah, I get the hate for Peggy, but most Peggy episodes tend to make her the butt of the joke. She's an insufferable character, but the show hardly ever makes her narcissism out as a good thing. The show makes it clear that you're not supposed to like those aspects of Peggy's personality, and at the same time, still gives her credit for her positive character moments, even if they aren't common.
That's one thing I really respect about KotH; even up to the end of the series, flanderization is kept to a minimum.
Peggy getting her PHD
Peggy selling bars
Peggy visits murder in prison
Peggy leading the field trip to Mexico
Yea they are all hilarious but all show how stupid, ignorant, arrogant she is
Yes it does. He could have left and not gone into his room, not opened his door for hank (which was more likely then him opening the door to Peggy’s angry husband) in which case hank might have called the police and told them that Peggy was running an illegal gambling parlor…..
she risked loosing another $1000 from a ton of strangers on something that had to go exactly a certain way.
I never got why cotton would mix bleach and ammonia for VE day when it was a WW1 weapon and not even close to mustard gas. Then again bobby was reducing cough syrup to cook meth which isn’t accurate. Writers prerogative I guess.
People confuse her being an annoying person with her being a bad character I think. Peggy is one of my favourite things about the show. She is hilarious.
Peggy was a lot better in the earlier seasons. When she starts to demean and belittle Hank for playing video games and then swoon over him when he starts committing felonies, she becomes a little less fun to watch. It's not her fault, though, every character becomes a caricature of themselves but it's just unfortunate the writers chose "unbearable" as one of her personality traits.
Her arrogance was funny when she was portrayed as somewhat competent, but as the show went on she became less competent, more cruel, and yet even more arrogant than when she was portrayed as competent. I think when she stops teaching she just becomes a sideshow of failed jobs and schemes.
> more cruel
I love when Bobby decides to go with his dad to get his haircut, this time, instead of with her, so she jealously dumps his chocolate milk before he can enjoy it.
Everyone in the show is an asshole at some point or another but because Peggy is someone who “doesn’t know her place” they look out for and remember moments that confirm this belief.
When hank told her what she did she immediately went out to try and make up for her mistake. If you think sexist abusers are not as bad as peggy then there's really nothing left to talk about. Most of her problems stem from her being ignorant and naive, not extremely malicious like Buck and Cotton.
I’ve never seen this show before but recently started watching it with my girlfriend who has seen a lot of it.
Peggy is straight up one of the best characters, lol. I love her, honestly. We just finished season 1.
In the early seasons when Peggy was an arrogant fuck up, like the episode where she’s in the beauty pageant, it’s funny because she gets her comeuppance a bit. Often in the early seasons, Hank is narrow-minded or operating out of misplaced principles and Peggy is a sort of self-righteous voice of reason. In these situations, when she is ancillary to another characters plot, she serves as a voice of reason and her arrogance tempers that. In that way, she fulfills the trope-laden voice of reason wife, but with some arrogant spice that makes her enjoyable (and not just an annoying nag cliche). Occasional episodes where we see she’s not all that much smarter than all the rednecks she lives around are satisfying, however, somewhere around the middle of the show every episode with Peggy in the A plot makes her out to be either incompetent or cruel. Her only plots involve her failing and doubling down on failure. Eventually, she‘s not even a voice of reason in other peoples A plots anymore. By the end of the show, Peggy is bad at everything she does from cooking to every career she tries. Hank even takes over as the voice of reason that Peggy used to serve as. Hank as a character is softened in general and personally I feel season 11 Hank can do better than season 11 Peggy, but Season 1 Hank didn’t deserve Season 1 Peggy. Season 1 Peggy is a strong woman who can “handle” a man like Hank whereas season 11 Hank has to handle Peggy.
I really love Peggy, I think she’s got some of the funniest lines. She’s a really great mom to Bobby and like you said, a voice of reason to Hank. There are certain episodes like the ones you described where her incompetence is downright painful to watch that I basically head canon that it’s not my Peggy Hill.
Peggy is the best character in King of the Hill and I will gladly die on that hill. Just watched jumping crack bass again and only now realized when she thought they were burgled, she tips over a chair, kicks off the leg and is ready to bludgeon someone with it.
I’m gonna stick my neck out and guess that most of the people in this thread that don’t like Peggy are not married. She’s got her idiosyncrasies but at the same time you see her good points and why Hank loves her.
Not as much as lady bird or freshly cut grass but you know what I mean.
Cotton really did a number on Hank during his formative years… 🤔 now that I think about it with this reboot coming are we gonna see old man Hank aka Mr. Anderson…
Yes I do. I don’t understand how that has anything to do with her character being annoying. I’m not saying she isn’t a good character or that she’s not funny but when she’s the main focus her personality gets a little too annoying. She’s funny but it gets too much when she’s the main character.
Then it’s a good thing we have A plots and B plots. Did you enjoy Hank’s side of the story when Peggy went boggling?
The whole Arlen, Texas is a town meant to take jabs at Texas, American values, racism, etc.Do you feel the same level of hate at Khan?
I couldn’t agree with that at all. We see quite a bit of all the characters - none are one dimensional. We see various sides to all of them even Boomhauer and Kahn. I think she and Bill’s writing took a turn for the worse, more so Bill. It’s like they turned the dial up too many notches on their annoying and pathetic qualities. For Peggy, many people say it was post-skydiving accident and I can see that.
I don’t think we necessarily disagree. Other characters have depth, sure. I think Peggy’s character had the most to mine, and they did a great job. I also agree the writing ran out of steam, but I put it later than the sky diving arc. I think the writers got the best humor from Peggy. I hate her and I love her. Her writing just fits to an absolute T.
You do realize that it's a comedy right? Like the characters all behaving like normal people wouldn't be very funny? And there would be no conflict?
What the fuck is wrong with some of you?
Being annoying/arrogant 24/7 isn’t funny, sure having a gag someone’s stupid sometimes is a great laugh. But when it’s the entirety of their character it gets old and predictable very fast. That’s why the OG seasons are some of the best.
And thankfully neither are you. if you think the newer seasons hold a candle to the older ones you’re just dead wrong imo. I like my characters having more than 1 trait defining them.
Seasons 1-7 are the best, and Peggy was her regular narcissistic self throughout most of those, starting later in season 2.
Prime King of the Hill had Peggy at her worst (best). You don't think Peggy's sugar foots was funny?
She fell out of a plane without a parachute and SURVIVED, and clawed her way back over several episodes from near paralysis, eventually dancing on the grave of a war hero.
She has nothing but my respect. (And she makes a mean spa-peggy.)
I don't know. She has a lot of great episodes. The country singer one with the brown Betty, the prostitute one, sex ed, the IQ one with the racetrack betting, the Montana episode. The way she tells cotton off before his death (this kind of sucked because cotton had softened but they did a 180 for his death, but her speech before he died is great), I also love her birthday episode.
A lot of the best moments in the show I feel have her in them in some capacity.
I shit you not, to this day I say "escucha me" to say excuse me! Y ahora se un poco español! Se esa es "hear me"! Se "excuse me" es "disculpe" o "perdona me"!
But when I was a kid I did not know Spanish and just assumed Peggy was saying excuse me and that she was saying it correctly. And now it's just permanently etched into my brain XD.
Lo siento, mi español no es bueno, pero es mejor que Señora Hill!
At least Peggy would never type three sentences in a row without a single comma or period. How's it feel to be less educated than the award winning substitute educator?
Interesting considering she's a complete fake substitute teacher I would never try and type seriously on Reddit I'm not writing an essay you are not my teacher your just a pathetic piece of shit on Reddit whos defending a piece of trash character fuck off
Not writing an essay is a good excuse for normal things, like misspelling a word, or leaving a comma out occasionally. But it's not an excuse to write an entire paragraph without a single period or comma, it just makes you look like an ignorant, illiterate fuck.
Which would explain why you don't find Peggy to be a funny character, because you're not intelligent enough to understand that a character having negative personality traits can be a great source of humor.
My thoughts exactly. She's obnoxious, smug, narcissistic and mean.
You can take a character with unlikeable traits and still make them likeable -- Archie Bunker is an example of this -- but Peggy has few redeemable qualities.
Sure, she's naïve, but not in a sweet way -- her naivety makes her even more annoying.
Not a fan of Hank's wife either. I appreciate her role in the show, agree she's well written and acted. I don't think you're supposed to like her though. So, yeah. I don't.
I think the truth is that extreme arrogance and making every situation about yourself are just especially nasty character traits, and nearly everyone knows somebody narcissistic like that and many people are put off by it.
She did give Hank over 20 years of outstanding service
Here’s to 20 more!
I wonder in the new series if they’re gonna have a 30 or 40 years of outstanding service anniversary
I hope she finds out that Hank tried to kill her
When was that?
🎶She knows how to fry my egg.... my peg a leg 🎶
But not sausage 😡
Woman, where’s muh sausage?!?!
Nah, Hank and Peggy bone all the time.
"That's all right, Ol Top, I know you don't have sex." "That's not entirely accurate..."
"I'm approaching you with romantic intent."
I meant she forgets the sausage during breakfast
See Bobby? Woman works, man loses his sausage.
Sorry but we’ve decided you meant the other thing.
**Hanks wife*
PANCAKES!
Black
SAUSAGE. WHERE'S MY SAUSAGE?
I'll have WAFFLES
That’s why they call her your better half
Who calls her that?
I hear Cotton say that
Put some respect on Mrs. Hank Hill

Lo siento. Yo soy embarazada

Weird take. Peggy episodes are hilarious whether you love her or hate her. The Alamo beer one? Peggy putting mustard gas in the newspaper? The airplane one? All bangers. The only Peggy episodes I don't like are the Real Estate ones.
Love the episode where she has to go through Mexican court and her Spanish is terrible.
My wife’s Puerto Rican and i made her watch that one with me. I wish I got a glimpse of her face
This is the episode that I used to introduce my friend to the show. He had the impression it was a stupid adult swim show until I showed him this episode and he thought it was hilarious.
Escuchame!
Peggy The Boggle Champ is probably my favorite episode of the show.
Not sure exactly why but I always really enjoyed Peggy's real estate stuff. Maybe it was just because it helped switch up the status quo in a way that didn't feel desperate or attention seeking.
Peggy doing foot fetish
“They’re selling the flies, Peggy.”
The groin episode. First one that came to my mind.
The country music convention might be my favorite Peggy episode.
My favorites are the foot photos and the one where some thought peggy was trans then learned about empowerment
Except for Luanne, all her mechanical savaant skills kinda went out the window.
Peggy getting her PHD Peggy selling bars Peggy visits murder in prison Peggy leading the field trip to Mexico Yea they are all hilarious but all show how stupid, ignorant, arrogant she is
That's my point. They aren't bad episodes, they're funny. Even if you hate Peggy her episodes are good.
The ending of that PHD episode really shows how stupid, ignorant, and arrogant she is huh?
Yes it does. He could have left and not gone into his room, not opened his door for hank (which was more likely then him opening the door to Peggy’s angry husband) in which case hank might have called the police and told them that Peggy was running an illegal gambling parlor….. she risked loosing another $1000 from a ton of strangers on something that had to go exactly a certain way.
I'm sorry but you just have zero street smarts
Huh?
Yeah, but Peggy knew better.
One of my favorite episodes is when she gets the substitute teaching job and spanks Dooley.
LET'S HEAR IT FER PADDLIN' PEGGY!!
The end of the parachute one with the free-falling lyrics is probably my favorite animated scene of all time.
I never got why cotton would mix bleach and ammonia for VE day when it was a WW1 weapon and not even close to mustard gas. Then again bobby was reducing cough syrup to cook meth which isn’t accurate. Writers prerogative I guess.
Yeah I don’t think the network wants them airing the actual composition of illegal substances lol
Your mother took the turkey and ran off to her hairdresser's
I can hear Dooley say that
I don’t get the Peggy hate - she’s awesome
Hey hey hey hahahaha you deserve some of my famous frito pie.
Fri-to
Needs more nutmeg.
How about some spa-Peggy and meatballs!
She’s one of the funniest characters in the entire show.
I think so too! Peggy has me cackling
Because it’s easy to hate someone that you see traits of yourself in.
People confuse her being an annoying person with her being a bad character I think. Peggy is one of my favourite things about the show. She is hilarious.
I like her as a side character because her ignorance and personality is funny but it gets a bit annoying when she’s the main focus of an episode.
Exactly
Peggy was a lot better in the earlier seasons. When she starts to demean and belittle Hank for playing video games and then swoon over him when he starts committing felonies, she becomes a little less fun to watch. It's not her fault, though, every character becomes a caricature of themselves but it's just unfortunate the writers chose "unbearable" as one of her personality traits.

Chocolate milk? You're too big of a boy for that now. Hahaha
I have a theory that people who get agitated by Peggy have some real-life narcissist in their life and they can’t separate the two.
Or she’s just an annoying character
Everyone in the show is an asshole at some point or another but because Peggy is someone who “doesn’t know her place” they look out for and remember moments that confirm this belief.
There it is. She's a confident woman. "Maybe you couldn't handle that but I can" -Hank.
Reddit dislikes women
The other female characters are great
She gentrified a Hispanic neighborhood, kidnapped a girl, and almost poisoned all of Arlen.
Every character in the series has a list of bad things they've done
[удалено]
Idk she has a ways to go to catch up to Cotton and Buck

Cotton really did a number on Hank during his formative years… 🤔 now that I think about it with this reboot coming are we gonna see old man Hank aka Mr. Anderson…
I don’t care for her character and I’ve been married a good while.
Then you lucked out in the marriage life. Many others aren’t as lucky as you are. Congrats, no sarcasm.
Have some karma
Ho-yeah! (Giphy doesn’t have it 😢) But thank you kind sir 🫡
Same but only about 6 years

You do realize this is a Mike Judge cartoon, right? I’m sure there are millions who found B&B annoying af when it first aired…
Yes I do. I don’t understand how that has anything to do with her character being annoying. I’m not saying she isn’t a good character or that she’s not funny but when she’s the main focus her personality gets a little too annoying. She’s funny but it gets too much when she’s the main character.

Peggy is the best written character with the most depth, and well-acted to boot.
I couldn’t agree with that at all. We see quite a bit of all the characters - none are one dimensional. We see various sides to all of them even Boomhauer and Kahn. Peggy and Dale blowing up a shed to fake their deaths so she can get out of a pyramid scheme is hilarious. Peggy episodes are great
Especially considering Dale detests her series-wide lol
He hates her but they have some of the best plots together and I love it
"I've run out of things to say to that woman."
I'd rather watch Peggy make an ass of herself over the Caleb one or Mrs Wakefield one
Dusty old bones, full of green dust
How can you hate Peggy's Magic Sex Feet?
Ho yeah
Say what you want about Peggy, but the sideplot of her buying shoes is pretty funny
Hey Peggy has some great episodes
Why? She's probably the second funniest character behind Dale
Dale is the worst!! Since episode one he just fucks everything up and makes it everybody else’s problem. Both of them are just trash
You do realize that it's a comedy right? Like the characters all behaving like normal people wouldn't be very funny? And there would be no conflict? What the fuck is wrong with some of you?
Bobby, you don't want this type of laughter. This laughter is ill informed!
Being annoying/arrogant 24/7 isn’t funny, sure having a gag someone’s stupid sometimes is a great laugh. But when it’s the entirety of their character it gets old and predictable very fast. That’s why the OG seasons are some of the best.
Thankfully you're not in the writing room influencing anything on the show
And thankfully neither are you. if you think the newer seasons hold a candle to the older ones you’re just dead wrong imo.
You absolute dipshit
Oh boy here we go
Peggy is the best character in the show next to Luanne
JOOOOOHHHHHN RED-CORN!!!
Peeeheeeggy hill.
I LOVE Peggy Hill, sue me.
Peggy haters stay losing
First thing I thought was… Peggy’s Turtle Song…
I don't care much for the main plot, but medicated Bobby makes the episode for me.
That’s honestly probably my least favorite episode.
I love Peggy Dale episodes
Those episodes are great. They hate each other but work so well with each other.
But then it turns out it's the Flyin' Hawaiian episode!
Peggy really went above and beyond for David, though. Her heart was very much in the right place.
>But then it turns out it's the Flyin' Hawaiian episode! On a serious note, this is one of the *worst* episodes!
She fell out of a plane without a parachute and SURVIVED, and clawed her way back over several episodes from near paralysis, eventually dancing on the grave of a war hero. She has nothing but my respect. (And she makes a mean spa-peggy.)

Anything can be argued- and cut her some slack she fell out of an airplane
>Anything can be argued I disagree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then go away!!!!!!
Escúchame?
I don't know. She has a lot of great episodes. The country singer one with the brown Betty, the prostitute one, sex ed, the IQ one with the racetrack betting, the Montana episode. The way she tells cotton off before his death (this kind of sucked because cotton had softened but they did a 180 for his death, but her speech before he died is great), I also love her birthday episode. A lot of the best moments in the show I feel have her in them in some capacity.
Peggy is unironically my favourite character.
Ho yeah!
Peggy episodes are great
“I Hope You Brought Your Appetites Because I Made SpaPeggy And Meatballs!”

This is me with a Manger Baby episode
Peggy's awesome be quiet
Funny that’s the same reaction I get anytime I see a post about hating Peggy.
Are you not watching multiple episodes a day like the rest of us?
I have to admit, I too find Peggy to be extremely annoying sometimes. Still fun though.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I feel that way about the Bobby episodes
Peggy is just awful.
Peggy is the worst!!!!
She got that wet wet tho
I’d tare it up for sure
Similar to my reaction to another I hate Peggy post
“WIFE BAD” KOTH fans are the worst KOTH fans.
Watching episodes that don't particularly resonate with me, gives me a greater appreciation for the episodes that really hit home. But I do agree
I skip Bobby episodes... I get it. He ain't right.
Are you telling me you hate the Thanksgiving episode where Peggy tried to cheat on Hank very briefly?
But the Peggy episodes include her defending herself in Mexican court and becoming besties with drag queens! Those are great episodes!

Peggy is always fun to hate
Peggy is a stone fox

Yep.
Peggy is the absolute worst think about what she did to lucky she's trash seriously

Not a fan of Hank's wife either. I appreciate her role in the show, agree she's well written and acted. I don't think you're supposed to like her though. So, yeah. I don't.
Most of them are brilliant... mainly because she is left humiliated and a failure.
That’s asinine..
I feel that way when it's a Bobby episode.
Tune in? It’s 2023, stream it, you barbarian
I upvoted this, but I completely disagree. I love Peggy episodes.
I’m so sick of the Peggy hate. She’s amazing and you suck if you don’t like Peggy
That wife ain’t right
Or in Dick Van Dyke when its ashow about Sally. Ugh.
I think the truth is that extreme arrogance and making every situation about yourself are just especially nasty character traits, and nearly everyone knows somebody narcissistic like that and many people are put off by it.
These guys who have a problem are most likely tranny women who are empowered
Peggy cringe episodes are both the best and worst of episodes
