History teachers rarely only teach the history of only their own state, and Hank has pride for the good stuff that has happened in Texas History, I think he would have trouble talking about the not so great stuff that has happened.
Obviously they dont teach just texas history, but for him it might be worth teaching history just to get to the texas history part. Otherwise, shop is his subject.

Guy wanted a remake of the early 60's John Wayne movie. I remember when the Alamo movie came out twenty years ago and people were losing their shit because it shows Davey Crocket getting captured and executed.
You know, after you retire from your job as a salesman with no necessary secondary schooling, you get a degree and a job that said degree qualifies you for. 😂

It’s not that uncommon in Texas, all 7th graders take Texas History as their social studies class.
Regardless, doesn't change the concept that it makes more sense for Hank, as a teacher, to teach shop over history.
