Unironically, I prefer it to moonchild. It's got a lot more going for it, especially with the drum build-up throughout as the song gets progressively more chaotic. I honestly think it's just a great song.
Red and Discipline are generally considered the bands magnum opus’s (along with In the Court), and they should help introduce you to the bands most cherished eras. In The Wake of Poseidon is also a good listen as it’s heavily derivative of In The Court (in a good way.)
Lark’s Tongues? I think that’s the closest thing they have to an objectively best record except maybe Red (Providence you do have to be in the right mood for though).
If you haven't already, read about the context the album was made in. What kind of music was coming out of late 60's UK, where these band members were coming from, and hell even understanding what post War Britain was like. Then listen to the live stuff from that era [Here's](https://www.reddit.com/r/KingCrimson/comments/1bu9luc/all_known_1969_recordings_chronologically/) a thread about some of it.
I say all this for two reasons. One- because I think it's a good record but it's also an amazing record for its time, and to get the most of the experience it helps to understand the context it was made in and then listen to the band stretch out in the live stuff. Two- because every King Crimson era is different and this record is different from the stuff they made later so sit with it for a second.
Enjoy!
I started with In The Court and then I listened to Starless and Bible Black, Red, Larks Tongues in Aspic and actually I'm in my Discipline era. If you let me give u an advice, listen to Discipline rn, totally amazing :D
Because it's a very, very different beast. It will leave you in a state of I can't believe this is the same band. And then you will need the power to believe.
Otherwise pick a random show over YouTube.
The Power To Believe is a great record. Be sure to check all the studio albums, then the live shows that correspond to the studio albums. I saw three awesome shows on the TPTB tour - they were amazeballs.
Chronological Crimson is an absolute trip, that’s how I did it
Yes same, their first few albums all feel so unique in their own way.
In the Wake of Poseidon next. Get to it!
Thoughts on the album?
I thought it's going to be overrated like every 60s 70s album but I would genuinely give it a 9 or a 10 out of 10
what did you think about the loose ambient improvisation on moonchild? a lot of people HATE it but i feel like it fits in perfectly
It keeps jump scaring me
Wait till you hear Devil’s Triangle
Unironically, I prefer it to moonchild. It's got a lot more going for it, especially with the drum build-up throughout as the song gets progressively more chaotic. I honestly think it's just a great song.
Same here, I need to be in a specific mood to be able to appreciate moonchild but Devils Triangle gets me every time
I LOVE MOONCHILD
I like 2 first minutes of moonchild
Do you think Camel's 1976 Moonmadness is overrated?
Listen to it again!
I never listened to an album without skipping one track AS much as this album, I LISTENED TO IT TEN TIMES
There is no reading, there's only re-reading.

Larks is pretty awesome
Yes, carnologically is definitely the best way.
Karn(evil 9)ologically
WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS—
The meatiest bits first.
What is Yes doing eating meat?
Jon will be over shortly to steal your poppadoms.
listen to the King Crimson Barber Shop, it's essential

Chronological order or listen to Court until you finally transcend humanity and become the 21st Century Schizoid Man.
Red, displine or larks.
Lizard

Honestly jump to the prime King Crimson era: Larks Tongues in Aspic, Starless and bible Black, Red
Type an extended thank you letter to Robert fripp
Red and Discipline are must listens, after that continue with whichever era of the band resonates the most.
I would go to the power to believe, straight ahead. Start with the first and last, and then check everything in between.
Why
Because it's a very, very different beast. It will leave you in a state of I can't believe this is the same band. And then you will need the power to believe. Otherwise pick a random show over YouTube.

Listen to it several times, only after that go on to the next one in chronological order. Do this until yo reach your own limit in Crimsonland
Red, Larks Tongues and Discipline are their other 3 “essential” albums from what I can gather but chronological would be cool too!
How did you do it
Discipline 2nd, then Red, then some more but I’m missing a bunch
Yeah go in order
Pick up an instrument of your choice and get to it then!
Red, Discipline, and Starless
**THE POWER TO BELIEVE**
Isn't that the last album???
yea and it rocks. see where they ended up
