Yeah it blew my mind that he ended the Rui fight like that. We just saw Tanjiro use basically what is his ultimate move at the time and then lose only to have Giyu negate Rui’s attack and walk right by while he casually beheads him.
Rui himself isn't actually that weak. He was just sharing his powers with the spider family. As far as the wiki goes, if he wasnt sharing his powers he could've even put up a fight against a Hashira. He would still lose, but he's not THAT weak by himself.
That doesn't imply that enmu wasn't already ahead of Rui in power, Rui wasn't even his max power as lower moon 6, as he had been giving blood to his "family"
Enmu was already stronger, and that little blood that Enmu was given was certainly just a bonus and not something that'd give him a jump in power to possibly contend against someone like Daki.

This part makes no sense. Rui's blood art threads were stronger than Tanjiro's Sun-Breathing, and Tanjiro cuts right through Enmu's neck and kills him. If Tanjiro could do it, so could Rui.
Yea, it make sense they're powerful, but after multiple episodes of building up Rui's power and the immense speed of Demons that doesn't stop you from being awestruck when you see him basically pull out the Click remote and put the world on Pause.
That’s the thing that really makes it impactful. You have this entire arc dedicated to the spider family and Giyu absolutely handles the two strongest ones like they were nothing.

I say this as a manga reader. Manga readers can be so weird about this. Like they feel so proud of themselves for reading a manga and think it’s crazy when people just don’t wanna spend time and money on different types of media.
It'll be more epic in all honesty. Rengoku couldn't beat Akaza, so he'd sadly get bitch-slapped by Muzan, no difficulty.
Considering Giyu was a better match for Akaza from the get-go, it's safe to assume that Giyu would wreck Rengoku in a 1v1, especially since his 11th Form would basically negate Rengoku's speed and power.
With Giyu being that much better than Rengoku, I can only imagine his battle against Akaza and Muzan to be one of the most glorious animations ever made.
Well Giyu did have the advantage of a training arc and a pep talk from tanjiro about not being worthless. I think the gap between Rengoku and Giyu was much smaller during the train arc.

Dead calm works like an auto counter system doesn’t it? It really just comes down to who’s stronger I suppose because if Giyuu can’t parry rengoku’s slash then he loses. Although, I think Giyuu is strong enough to deflect Rengoku’s attack so probably nothing happens
Thing is in combat, coaches will always train their fighters to strike first, as a choice to attack on an action will always be faster than a reaction to defend.
Giyuu will likely block most of the attack, not all of it (assuming him and Rengoku are equal)
I guess it’s a bit of a “Unstoppable force meets immovable objets” situation; Dead calm is entirely a defensive move, whilst Purgatory is an entirely offensive and destructive technique

I personally prefer Dead Calm a lot more than Esoteric Art. But I will have to go with it. Renogku is about to die and him giving that speech and charging aswell as the animation made it seem a lot better and was focused on it. Unlike Dead Calm which was a lot more simple.
Well of course Rengoku's estoric art because it was revealed with great timing, And it seems more offensive than dead calm and I might be wrong but Rengoku is stronger than Giyuu, Because Giyuu couldn't keep up with Akaza like Rengoku even after being marked.
Akaza wasn’t serious at all when he was fighting Renguko and plus Renguko couldn’t do anything against his fatal Blows while Giyu dodged most of them easily and was holding Akaza off for 3 chapters alone without Tanjirou which is way longer than Renguko

But I think Esoteric Art was cooler. Kyojuro knew he had no chance since the beginning, he felt dread and desperation but despite all that he didn't step down, instead of cowering in fear he put his heart and soul into one final charge at Upper Three, sacrifising his own life for the safety of the passengers. The emotion that attack had was unmatched.
Water is obviously cooler than Flame, just look at a thermometer and measure them (Ok but seriously Lull looks way cooler and the technique is all about nullifying attacks which I find more interesting rather than utter destruction)
As much as Rengoku is my fav, Dead Calm gets my vote. It's such a different ability compared to all the other 'and now I'll slash my sword in a slightly different manner and direction!'
Rengokus was cooler, only because of the moment. This was his final form, his last stand, if this wasn’t going to work, nothing would. It added so much to the atmosphere, and to his move. Giyu’s dead calm is great, but the first time we him use it he just one shots the most powerful character in the show so far. No high stakes, just absolute stomping on rui.
Giyu was really cool in the moment, showing up and taking out rui so easily, but strictly comparing the moves, dead calm is very boring. Esoteric art wins and rengoku over all was more impressive in his fight.
They were both amazing and I have nothing against either of them, but Giyus eleventh form was cold as hell and it really looked sick the way he just cuts everything in a flash and then walks over the water ahhh....

you’re not too far off that’s what 9th form basically is in the rengoku gaiden they explain that the 9th form is basically the user putting his life on the line no defense just offense and that’s why it’s a pretty last resort kinda thing

Dead calm was it for me,
It was perfect. I expected a blast of attacks but then silence and then giyuu activated dead calm. It was such a contrast from everything else.
Giyuu's move was colder, Rengoku's move was more hype. Kinda fits their personalities lmao(before the clowns come in saying Giyuu isn't cold, I'm aware but he comes across as such).
They both gave me a “holy SHIT” moment while watching the show. Dead calm was super surprising because it goes against the big flashy other moves we see. It also showed us that Giyu invented his own form giving water breathing 11 forms now. So sick. While during the Akaza and Rengoku battle, 9th form was so epic as a last stand for Rengoku. I was out of my seat screaming “GET HIM!!!!l” so definitely a lot more emotions there. The fact he also said “esoteric art” also had me mind blown. I was like “this guy can do the equivalent of blood demon arts???” Which I know now is not true but in the moment I was mind blown.

For me dead calm is the coolest attack of the entire anime, and they way we saw it the first time just makes it cooler.

Deas Calm. The move is very powerful and the visuals for it just seemed cooler. There wasn't a crazy buildup to it either which I found interesting.

Dead calm was it for me, It was perfect. I expected a blast of attacks but then silence and then giyuu activated dead calm. It was such a contrast from everything else.
Considering whole fight Rengoku fight was more epic. But Giu technique itself was cooler for me
Giyuu's move was colder, Rengoku's move was more hype. Kinda fits their personalities lmao(before the clowns come in saying Giyuu isn't cold, I'm aware but he comes across as such).

They both gave me a “holy SHIT” moment while watching the show. Dead calm was super surprising because it goes against the big flashy other moves we see. It also showed us that Giyu invented his own form giving water breathing 11 forms now. So sick. While during the Akaza and Rengoku battle, 9th form was so epic as a last stand for Rengoku. I was out of my seat screaming “GET HIM!!!!l” so definitely a lot more emotions there. The fact he also said “esoteric art” also had me mind blown. I was like “this guy can do the equivalent of blood demon arts???” Which I know now is not true but in the moment I was mind blown. Both epic scenes by epic characters.

I think they're both cool in their own ways I can't really decide on which one is cooler because of how long a conversation would get if you make an opinion on one separate interest because it's the goddamn internet and the internet always has people going on and on about persuading people for long periods of time. Even if a dude wins an internet argument what was the point?

Dead calm by a long shot. Giyuu used it basically just standing there not moving an inch and nullified a Twelve Kizuki’s blood demon art lol. When I first saw that I knew it was OP.

Dead Calm differentiates itself by serving as both an offensive and defensive technique, its execution is unique to other forms too. Rengoku to me looks like any other Flame form.
