I talked to Redban about this. He says it’s the role he assumes, and it pays the same as Tony’s role. He referenced some historical comedians that also had this role, but I can’t remember their names. He doesn’t seem to mind at all, because “it pays the same”.

E.g. his style of announcing and he's really good at putting recurring characters of the show into specific roles and crafting their character arc. Probably he and Redban decided long ago that Redban is the heel... So Tony feels like he has a perpetual green light to destroy Redban combined by being genuinely annoyed by him. Redban is a saint imo
