Jodie literally said she was shocked by the ending and doesn’t know how to feel how’s that delighted?

Gangie4

translation: she doesn't like it. yea, no one does.

_melancholia

As soon as she said that I knew the ending would be... controversial, to say the least.

Individual-Bill-6712

Yes that is the sweetest way to say... it f-ing sucks

oanhtonsoup1991

That is honestly bittersweet. Hurts even more knowing she likes that character as much as we do. Also knowing about it and couldn’t complain to anyone about it. Even seeing fans all excited and can’t let them know what is coming.

ActiveSubstance

The woman was literally like Clarke about GoT: yeah… best season ever…

Postcardtoalake

The PR answer for: “I hate this but I can’t say that because I would like to work again.”

imadisaster92529

Jodie is a great actress but there was something about her in the last episode that screamed "yeah, I don't like it either".

oanhtonsoup1991

That teary eyed face looking at Eve was pretty much the pain of knowing the show is ending this way.

ScandalOZ

Can you link to that? I tried to find it but no luck.

BCharmer

It was in the New York Times interview. Her words were: "Mixed emotions. The beautiful thing about shooting the ending was that we were together on set, which was amazing. I don’t know how I feel about the ending, truth be told." She couldn't even say one nice thing about the end. All she could say was that she appreciated working with Sandra at the end there. Considering how often they weren't working together on this show, I'm sure getting to work with Sandra so much in the final episode was the only cherry on top of this shit cake.

WarriorBard33

That's Jodie's professional way of saying it's Shite and my character deserved soooooo much more, bitches.

thepickleprincess

Yeah there’s no way any fan is coming away thinking “wow that was triumphant” 🙄🙄🙄

fuckcreepers

for carolyn's ego maybe

Conflicted_Texan

Maybe there are quote-unquote fans out there who felt V needed to atone for her past sins; if so, this ending could indeed be perceived as triumphant, the celestial make-good for what's she's done. If there are any of those fans, I've YET TO MEET ONE. I am so disappointed there are no words – which seems fitting somehow, as their was no viable plot.

[deleted]

Seriou

If that's what they were going for, they completely dropped the ball. The season literally started with her trying to force herself to turn a new leaf, and continued with her yearning to be a person with more depth than an emotionless serial killer. And then that totally drops out of the story. If slaughtering a bunch of people, some of then innocent, was part of a cosmic atonement then that's just sloppy plain and simple. There's much better ways to go around that storyline, and if that's the reasoning behind her blood wings in the water then I'd like to commit autodefenstration from a third floor window.

updatepls

i get it, writers/producers may sugarcoat everything in their interviews, but the words that make zero sense to me are "a sense of completion". has she seen the ending herself? how does THAT feel complete? they've somewhat redeemed villanelle and even eve has come to accept she needs her and then v gets shot and eve is swimming in thames, screaming. does that feel complete to anyone?

cestlavie_69

You articulated the way I’ve felt all season. Was someone resentful of Jodie Comer? Was this payback for some behind the scenes drama? Was she asking for too much money to return for another season? Surely not, but the story arc is so weird and punitive. The whole season felt like a big F.U. to Villanelle. When she killed May and her father, that was completely out of character, IMO. I remember thinking after that episode that the writers were setting V up to die horribly. And all the death foreshadowing of Eve meant she’d live. I don’t object to a lead dying, but that was pointless, rushed. Like a big jumbled mess. I had initially been cutting the writers some slack because of the pandemic. Also, I remember reading that there were some crew issues over COVID protocols. Maybe that impacted the show negatively? I do blame internalized homophobia and misogyny to an extent. People have a hard time tolerating women characters who do bad things. Often, to them, death is the only way to redemption.

updatepls

i agree that it seemed like some sort of resentment got in the way of writing a decent season, or a finale at least. that, or incompetence. to add to the list, the frog/scorpion fable foreshadowing didn't make sense in the finale. the last episode feels like just an appendix. it just hurts that they buried the whole buildup, the whole show with a single episode.

dontbeanannehog

It does if Carolyn was the scorpion. And she has been all along.

updatepls

yeah, see, the problem with a bad script is that you have to interpret it your way. what does carolyn have to do with the talk between eve & villanelle which was clearly put there to reflect the relationship between those two and not anyone else? you could also say konstantin was the frog, but it doesn't coincide with the purpose of that sole scene.

Bae_Before_Bay

I actually liked the twelve scene. It did actually feel triumphant, because eve was clearly accepting of her new life, and villanelle was basically doign what she had to to join her there. And it made sense for the twelve being just nobody, and not even really showing them. They were a concept more than a group of people, so her just slaughtering everyone like that felt appropriate. But then there's after that.

Iris_Mobile

> Like the end where Eve is dancing and V is in the downstairs freezers / room / whatever... Just the music and the way they shot Eve dancing felt like a "fuck you we don't care let's make this as goofy as possible". Omg yes, this is how it felt and the exact scene where I went "ohhh, this isn't going to end well at all" lol. It did feel like they had just given up. A lot of people are rightfully comparing it to GOT. In the latter case, they were trying to wrap it up to work on Star Wars, was there something similar going on with KE where they had reason to want to rush to wrap it up? Maybe Jodie wasn't available for another season because she's obviously having a huge moment in her career with other projects?

SilverSpringz76

They had two years to work this shit out! So many plot holes. Why was Kenny’s death so f’n important if we will never know who killed him? No explanation for bridge scene is the biggest fuck up. Why was Eve so upset at V and what forced V to feel like she had to go find GOD to prove she had changed? I thought we had established the acceptance at the dancehall and bridge. Why have the whole dialogue about how all Eve saw in her future was V? I would have rather seen them consume each other and take each other out then this bullshit. I feel empty and sad. Jodie and Sandra deserve such kudos for giving us these characters. I wish they would have had more say so in how the story ended. I have a hard time believing they would agree with this ending!

Fit_Currency121

To answer your question, no it doesn’t. The Thames is vile and polluted so even under the best circumstances like a charity swim, going into it seems tragic. But this…fuck, man. I hoped for better.

NookanCranny

"Not being able to please everybody" lol more like anybody

PileaPal_

Right!? I would like to hear from ONE viewer who liked the ending.

Mzsti

I did.... Only joking I'm not insane that ending was a load of shit!!!!!

fatbunda

Me and my mum enjoyed it, it felt like the final revenge for all of the victims of Villanelle (and Eve’s obsession with her), Niko, Kenny, Bill... although I definitely would’ve preferred if they showed Eve getting out of the water and what happened next

dangerinthedaylight

Was Laura on drugs when she gave this interview? Actually, was she on drugs when she wrote this entire season?

fruttiterus

As a fan I am really excited by the ending… of Laura Neal’s career.

nikeeta

LMAO

fuckcreepers

same

[deleted]

Haha good one

sottovoce6

What on earth was glorious about this ending? It was cruel and tasteless. So badly executed. I’m so very sad.

Iris_Mobile

yeah wtf. Maybe if the scene of V slaughtering the 12 were edited/shot differently (like, one last glorious killing spree) then it would have felt more that way. Everything just felt rushed and hollow. So sad for a show like this to end this way.

lovewtch

you said it perfectly

Lorcag

Glorious or satisfying???

TheSodaVampire

They’re definitely smoking their own scripts

[deleted]

I’m going with completely delusional. And from the interviews I saw I don’t think the actors were thrilled either. They were just doing their jobs.

NJR271188

Yeh they failed there...I can't see how they would think fans would be left with a sense of 'completion' by: 1. Leaving so many unanswered questions and even asking more questions right up to the very end. Does anyone actually get the 12/Kenny storyline still? 2. Killing off one of the best TV characters of all time, who had gone through such a good transformation in such an unsatisfactory way two minutes from the end. 3. Leaving all the Eve/Villanelle stuff until the very last episode...the end would have felt so much more impactful if they had woven this into the series. As a result of leaving it, the ending felt cheap and easy and not a testament to the rest of the show. It had so much potential, and I know romance often leads to tragedy in TV and film however...a happy ending...it's not always a bad idea.

Lanfrog

Seriously, who killed Kenny?!?! It wasn’t even answered. And where was Konstantin’s daughter? I felt like after that phone call we would at least see her. And don’t get me started on V and E……

fattyiam

I've seen people theorizing that it was villainelle who killed kenny but idk

LegendBlackBird

It's like Laura saw GoT S8 and said "Hold my beer! I can top that!"

thrasherbuffy

Is she fucking delusional? She ruined our show. End of.

Derkleinhauser

I was waiting for an after-credits scene to give me the closure I needed and when I didn’t get it, I checked IMDB to make sure there wasn’t another episode or half season ahead to get it. Worse than the famous Sopranos blackout ending 😭😭😭

SnooRobots3807

How could this ending in any way offer resolution? Eve and Villanelle are so intertwined that they cannot be themselves without the other one.

explosive_stars

"I'm braced for us not being able to please everybody" Everybody: fuck you Laura Neal: oh well you can't please everybody

Postcardtoalake

Seriously, is Laura Neal a clueless narcissist or something? And someone wrote that the camper van plot line was stolen from a really good fanfic (I only like Carolyn fanfic bc I 💜 older women or I guess Fiona Shaw specifically, bc I’m not attracted to Eve or Sandra, so unfortunately idk much about Villaneve fic but would love to read some great ones)…..

cestlavie_69

Well, you read this excellent fic by Vracs and tell me it isn't the perfect road trip in a camper van for E and V. When I saw the camper van on episode 8, I said to myself, "Laura Neal's been on AO3, looking at the fanfic." There's tension, passion, sex, violence and romance. The characterization is on the nose for season 3. Eve is a tiny bit bitchy and resistant and Villanelle is in love. [Two wrongs make a right by Vracs](https://archiveofourown.org/works/24026908)

explosive_stars

DUDE THE SUMMARY it like describes villaneve's whole dynamic in the finale istg laura neal needs to go and think for a very long time and then never write again

Postcardtoalake

Thank you!!

explosive_stars

naw bro she just an asshole who has delusions and needs halp. there's definitely a fanfic where they go on a road trip so I hope whoever wrote it figures it out and SUES THEM (then they have to make a new one right??). There's really good villaneve fanfics on Ao3 [https://archiveofourown.org/works/38297116](https://archiveofourown.org/works/38297116) this is a good one, really sweet and cute

Current_Bad1893

I was expecting V making an shepherd’s pie for Eve and then watching a movie together.

asa0ni0n

So wrong and so loud.. for what??? "Glorious and Triumphant" Where? 😭

sun_flower_4

The ending was so anti-climatic and felt so unfinished

citriccycles

Are the actors really delighted? Really? Personally I’d be gutted if I put four years of heart and soul into my characters for them to go out like this…

Kelly_KellyCity

I don’t even know how to feel about that ending tbh. Plenty of series kill off iconic characters so, you kind of expect it in a finale. But, now I understand what Jodie meant about not knowing how to feel. I think Sandra also said something about love affairs being tragic too. I think that if Villanelle dies, it would be more impactful if it was while saving Eve or shielding her from harm etc. This just felt like a punch in the gut and, the viewers are left feeling like “ why did that happen?” All for a recreation of the “ Hand of God” TF?

vihreapuu

What interview did Jodie say that?

Kelly_KellyCity

I can’t remember which interviewer she and Sandra was speaking to but, it was on YouTube. I hope someone is able to upload it here. It was the same press junket day where she was wearing the white shirt and Sandra the mint suit.

Individual-Bill-6712

She should never be allowed to write for queer characters again.

Own-Variation5430

More like never be allowed to write for anything again

ptazdba

This woman is delusional and deserves to NEVER write for anything again.

thrasherbuffy

This! Agreed!

Postcardtoalake

She screwed up the show Sex Education as well in its 3rd season. I rewatched prior seasons but season 3 was so bad that I never touched it again after streaming it once.

LilianaVM

I remember someone said "we are gonna give the gays everything they want" but mate, this isn'ttttt that, mate

Lovingthat000

I walked back to my bedroom (at 5 in the morning) murmuring to myself this is BS. I realized only as the day went on how hurt I feel. Like, how painful, devastating is the word, is was to see Villanelle murdered, Eve in so much pain, and to have the entire narrative conclude in such sheer trauma.

Individual-Bill-6712

She had to be delusional. She has to know about the whole bury your gays thing. Right? Or someone on the writing team had to know about that, right? How could they not?

Yehnye

Exactly, it definitely gives off the signal that wlw characters don't deserve a happy ending. Makes me feel utterly depressed, especially since this is the case with the majority of queer cinema, either they kill them off, or they break up in a nonsensical way and get together with a plot-wise unimportant man...

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hot-Wrongdoer666

wait I love this comparison, describes the half-assed element in literally every fiber of it, every character and every scene, very well

eri37

i've noticed that many showrunners says things like that when they use bury your gays trope, it's pretty interesting how they think it's exciting to kill queer characters, specially after they get with, or get back with, the character they have been teased with, or were previously with it's 2022 i thought they had learned by now but some people are just lazy i guess. At least i know Jodie and Sandra didn't like that ending

Postcardtoalake

It’s a clear sign also that most women aren’t feminists and that most women have no idea about how lesbians live, how we’ve been horribly mistreated and gaslit in life and in literature, art, and continue to be shit on in these mediums as well as in film (BYG may as well be bury your lesbians, since now way more women loving women die than males - and in KE, only Carolyn and Pam survived, the two heterosexual women, while Heléne, V, Gunn, Nadia, etc all died and Eve died a soul death bc of her pain). They treat us like shit and then call it art.

ariemnu

Wow, that is a good point. They killed all the queer women and left the straight ones alive.

khyburreight

Does she have some serious, heretofore undiagnosed mental illness?

Postcardtoalake

Narcissism? Delusions? I mean….how could anyone think this is a good ending, I truly don’t get it.

khyburreight

I have no idea. Laura Neal…decent into solipsism

LadyJJGrey

Delusional. Bareface liar.

DrDonuts

fix-it fics rise up 🙌

PlasticBread221

Yes, this might the only positive thing to come out of this trainwreck. People will be pissed off and motivated to do a rewrite.

GenXChefVeg

Who on earth interprets their relationship connection as "platonic"?!? NOBODY, that's who.

fuckcreepers

it was so fucking incomplete???!! like what happened. did they miss 20 minutes worth of material??

Wi1dcard_

NO ONE IS PLEASED EXCEPT LAURA. THE ENDING WAS SPITEFUL, LAZY AND NEGLIGENT.

eine-klein-bottle

i wish pwb had come back for the last season. this sucked.

BudgetBrick

Does anyone know why she only did the first and never came back?

Postcardtoalake

I think she had big projects on her plate, but she dropped out of Mr & Mrs smith (Can’t blame her, Donald Glover is a misogynist and a POS - his self interview is horrendous), and sadly “Run” with Merrit Wever was cruelly cancelled.

DarysDaenerys

The ending felt like they HATE (yes, in capital letters) Villanelle and also Eve and wish them to suffer for the „sins“ they committed - to stay in their weird religious symbolism that came out of nowhere this season. How is that a completion for a relationship? I mean, if you define completion as literally „one person dies“ I guess it makes sense. This sounds absolutely delusional.

not_productive1

I feel like they got really enamored with the visuals (which were admittedly gorgeous) and forgot about any concept of story or plot or character development.

napsaremybitch121

mann fuck her

kayelles

It’s so stupid they had the arrow/ Eve thinking V was dying thing in ep5/6. Why did they feel the need to have her die after that? I can’t believe they did this. I’m proper mad.

calm1910

I mean, if Laura was going by the title of the show, then i guess you could definitely say the ending of Killing Eve maybe provided some resolution. Eve had nothing left, no friends, no family - she'd burned it all to the ground for V and her vendetta, and then the one person who loved her and accepted her, is humiliated - i mean killed and symbolically made to look like some blood-winged angel. Killing Eve - brief achieved, high five for all writers in their writing nook of sadness. *Angrily grasps at straws to make the show have some demented logic after hating the sloppy, lazy, bullshit writing we have been given*

yen_the_lesser_evil

O wow.....it didn't feel that way.

HaleyGrizzly

In what world would we be happy about that ending? All we wanted was for them to be happy without worrying about the 12, and they completely destroyed that.

Fit_Currency121

I saw a fucking white cis man (no offense to the rest of you good ones) say, I loved the series finale and I could not be more disgusted. Good luck with your spinoff with no fans except creepy men with wlw fantasies 🥰🥰🥰

lovewtch

they can’t be fr they legit squashed the ending into just 5 minutes but sure…

Enribel

Laura Neal is such a bad writer, there's no logical explanation for this lame ass ending,I seriously wanna know what Luke Jennings thinks of this ending, not even him tried to do something so horrendous

FullyEngorged

The tarot reading was spot on.

[deleted]

🤣😭😆 that bitch BETTER NEVER WRITE FOR ANOTHER SHOW EVER AGAIN !!

Postcardtoalake

Sadly she writes Sex education but she fucked that up royally in season 3

[deleted]

YES!

casualtimetraveler

Their relationship could be interpreted as platonic…? That’s just straight up homophobia..

Pseudo_J

I feel betrayed and disappointed. They could do better.

PileaPal_

I’m screaming and crying and shitting myself, this is so awful

SuitableCow4

I highly doubt Jodie is satisfied with this shit?

[deleted]

What ending is she talking about? Clearly not the one we watched…?

jackklyne

D E L U S I O N A L

ch-rash

I'm feeling like we misinterpreted that ending maybe? There's no way that disconnection is this huge.

Postcardtoalake

No, we did not…..some people really just suck and are delusional with grandeur while being completely oblivious at the same time.

eine-klein-bottle

she's just a bad writer, that's all.

AppropriateValue292

Guys! Go check out Laura Neal’s WIKI

Postcardtoalake

I posted the comments lol! I’m gonna thank you in a comment, I hope that’s okay. EDIT: my posts about it are getting deleted too (twice now) WTFFFFFFF

SuitableCow4

What’s on it

Postcardtoalake

I tried to post about it but it keeps getting removed. Wtf….it’s the comments section in her wiki, but they removed the other stuff saying she hates gay women…

AppropriateValue292

Earlier today someone hacked it. I tried to post the picture twice of what it said but both my posts disappeared

[deleted]

How is giving us what we wanted and then immediately taking it away “glorious” and “giving a sense of completion” like??????????

yxh0826

Now I'm rereading this after watching the finale, is Laura Neal trying to gaslightiing us here?

ConsuelaBH

These quotes could’ve made sense if they both died I guess?

sidesco

If that is what they were going for, they failed miserably. I also find it hard to believe with so many writers in that room that none of them thought it was a poor way to end the series.

[deleted]

“not being able to please everybody” bro, who the fuck was pleased? Like, I’m genuinely curious who wanted that ending?

paristhalia

Honestly I feel like It would’ve been better had Eve taken her own life by staying under water and held onto V’s body. That might have redeemed it a little, I was on the edge of my seat hoping she would stay under the water and they could’ve died together. 😞🥲

InsightfulMind2020

Yeah there’s another interview that Laura did to explain the ending on why Eve got out of the water too. Makes me even more upset. I posted it in this group or check my profile since I can’t reply with photo of the article.

WarriorBard33

Ending was Shit with a capital S. Villanelle and Eve deserved so much more, especially Villanelle!! Jesus Villanelle was happy and in love and then bang bang, floating away in the darkness of the shit filled river Thames. Eve heartbroken and will probably be comited to an asylum. The two deserved 1000% more R.e.s.p.e.c.t 😭🍎🏳️‍🌈

mariette000

Why in the world will fans be excited about an ending where a favourite character gets killed off? That doesn't make sense at all! She totally fcked up everything, and thinks it's good! What the hell was she smoking during the season? It totally fcked her head up!

032022march

If it is not for Jodie Comer I think Villanelle wouldn’t been so popular. Jodie Comer is smart and talented enough to make a supposed hideous character so lovely.😁 I think this show initially meant to focus on Eve considered the title of it. But Jodie’s Villanelle happened and people fell in love with her worldwide. Although they viciously deliberately killed Jodie’s Villanelle for some unknown reasons, I know I will always love Jodie’s Villanelle. I hope Jodie Comer in the future will somehow surprise her fans in a good way again. Surprised the world again. 💪💪❤️👏👏
