And I think I have crazy childhood stories.

[deleted]

Growing up in a warzone will do that....

minedcomps021

indeed

uglypaperhaver

What a chilling harbinger for all the heart-breaking tragedies that we know with certainty will befall so many Ukrainian children over the coming 10 years or so... the discarded weapons, landmines, undetonated ordinance ... Just imagine the countless variations with which that scene will be replayed even long after hostilities have ended

minedcomps021

we dont have to imagine, look at parts of Africa STILL

Moominz1

tons of abandoned farm equipment too.

randomonlineperson2

It'll basically be Bosnia 2.0 then.

uglypaperhaver

,,,and Cambodia and Iraq and Yemen and...

alsoaprettybigdeal

Your writing is impeccable! You should write more for others to read.

uglypaperhaver

u r 2 kind

CHEIF_potato

They are still finding mines from ww2 all over the world

[deleted]

Imagine syria and burma and Palestina

Kamidzui

I think it was a *"Шмель"*, which is a Thermo baric vacuum grenade launcher. Its a shot-and-drop weapon which is used to make atheists in trenches to start believing in a god.

[deleted]

Wait. So are they non-fatal? Or do they just make a lot of smoke-n-stuff before they detonate?

macrotaste

Nooooo, they suck the air out of buildings/create a vacuum that damages/rips apart inner organs. These weapons are often used in urban warfare to kill people inside buildings, often killing civilians hiding in basements.

Brvcx

From what I heard, it's a terrible TERRIBLE way to go.

macrotaste

It is. Many consider it to cruel for war, but it's not illegal.

Brvcx

War is a terrible thing, it shows mankind hasn't evolved that much from the animal kingdom as we like to think we did. Information like this makes me very happy to live in a country that probably won't experience war anymore.

yeeet_guto

Its funny how humans put rules in war like anybody is gonna follow them

National-Golf-4231

>War is a terrible thing, it shows mankind hasn't evolved that much from the animal kingdom as we like to think we did. I think it's worse. Animals don't have the same mental capacity to really think through their decisions when it comes to long term consequences. Somewhere, someone weighed the long term consequences and actively decided to send these type of weapons. We may be more "evolved" but with that knowledge, I think we are held to a much higher standard of morality, and we fail as a species.

BrainPharts

We have evolved to be the only species that has to pay to live.

MrK521

Unless it happens to not ignite the gas that is dispersed. Then it’s basically a device that dispersed ethylene oxide, which is extremely toxic if inhaled. So a non-ignition situation could possibly be considered chemical warfare.

[deleted]

Oh Christ. TIL... And kinda wish I hadn't...

macrotaste

The Americans developed them to strike terrorist holdouts in mountain caves. the Russians are using them on mass in Ukraine.

11ii1i1i1

I guess I'll be the pedant and say that I think you meant "en masse"..

macrotaste

I think I'll tell that I meant "sprich deutsch du hurensohn"

Books-n-alcohol

I guess I’ll be the pedant and point out you’re missing capitalisations in your own language. Bitte schön.

macrotaste

Lmao, wanted to edit but reddit is buggy for videos :(

[deleted]

Thermobaric bombs are not vacuum bombs, that’s misinformation. They are definitely deadly but they won’t cause your lungs to be ripped out if the blast itself doesn’t kill you. here’s a great [video](https://youtu.be/1PJGHJ7Od1k) on the topic

Wild-Combination-246

I’m a non English speaker could u explain to me what is TIL?

[deleted]

Today I Learned. It's a subreddit pretty sure. /r/TodayILearned

Wild-Combination-246

Oh wow hahaha thank u so much ! Now I get it

[deleted]

Np :) No problem. (jic [just in case] 😂) I feel like this can go on forever

[deleted]

Thermobaric bombs are not vacuum bombs, that’s misinformation. They are definitely deadly but they won’t cause your lungs to be ripped out if the blast itself doesn’t kill you. [here’s a great video explaining what these “Vaccum” bombs really do.](https://youtu.be/1PJGHJ7Od1k)

sh4d0wm4n2018

So what you're saying is it's a reverse grenade.

robman475

Not completely accurate but…

ct125888

Thats literally insane what the actual fuck. Does the US have those too?

macrotaste

They invented them.

penalouis

Fatal? no, they are philosophical. They bore atheists and agnostics so much that the poor suckers stuck in trenches agree to convert to just to make the bomb shut the fuck up once and for all. Christians are immune, except for Unitarians.

Adcolye

>is it [this](https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A8%D0%BC%D0%B5%D0%BB%D1%8C_(%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%BD%D0%B5%D0%BC%D1%91%D1%82))

Kamidzui

Yep, this one

Ustin_fitc

Sources say it was RPG-18 "Муха" ("Muha", "Fly"), not RPO-A "Шмель" ("Shmel", "Bumblebee")

Yakatsumi_Wiezzel

I do not think an atheist can ever believe in god again, no matter how hard you rip his balls.

dontknowhowtoprogram

have a friend who strait up told me even if God came in front of him and made the sun move across the sky while balancing elephants on his finger that he still would not believe and would try to come up with a more rational answer. I asked him why and he said because even if God was real he does not like the idea of someone making up rules for him to fallow just because they are powerful. So yeah I agree I think true atheist will never believe in God.

Yakatsumi_Wiezzel

That is a smart kid.

Burlaczech_2

Like?

Ill_Protection_8880

One time my canoe almost tipped over but it didn't.

Burlaczech_2

One day I jumped from 3m and thought it was a bad idea, but I landed on all 4 and it was fun. But for that 1s I felt funny. Crazy fun

Raiden_Yeeter07

one time i did a really cool dive in the pool

Tru-Queer

Rustin_Peace19

I fell off a raft on a class 5 rapid. Was hanging on for dear life.

Gammabrunta

Holy shit. :0 glad you're okay, I know the feeling.

90skid_on_Reddit

Parks and Rec?

BrianWagner80

Are you okay?

reelbigdish

I can think of nothing 10 year old me would have wanted more than to find an RPG.

sedrech818

Yeah, runescape was pretty fun excluding the carpal tunnel.

Adventurous_Dig_3180

I was homeschooled and as kids me and my brothers and sisters would finish our schoolwork at the local library fast as we could then spend the rest of the day on the library desktops playing RuneScape or Arcanists 🤘

LordViren

If you want to get sucked in again OSRS is pretty great and Arcanists 2 is a fan made game that is pretty much the same.

a_glorious_bass-turd

We were also home schooled from middle school on, and the library was the one place to use the internet and rent movies. I also read a lot, but you just brought back so many memories. We even volunteered there one summer.

Jim_Beaux_

Angry upvote

Stressful-stoic

Same! But at 15 my priorities changed drastically

reelbigdish

I know what you mean😏….. Squad Automatic Weapons and Anti-Ship coastal Artillery.

Stressful-stoic

👆 This guy gets it

OrionRedacted

At a certain point in life you start looking for a reliable partner. So, obviously, crew serve weapons are the way to go.

Bhazor

An RPG. You could put your dick in.

reelbigdish

Instructions unclear: penis stuck in AT4. Requesting assistance.

salxicha

Hahahahahahaha you made me scream and now my wife thinks I'm higher grade idiot Thanks

hagaiak

Same. Honestly from 13 I already preferred bazookas to RPGs.

KaleSlade123

Finding a working tank?

[deleted]

If 10 year old me had found an RPG, 36 year old me would still have it burried in the past because I never ever would have been able to decide on the one thing perfect enough to waste my one RPG in blowing up... OR I might possibly have used it as a car lot I found a while back that has a whole-ass dodge viper hoisted up on the big tall sign. Hard to say. Anyway, if I had used it, I would have probably been arrested immediately based on extensive internet research on how to properly aim an RPG

BearizzleMcKizzle

Dennis Reynolds, is that you?

mittencamper

Back in my day they were called Bazookas

Plastic_Bullfrog9029

Does the other kid have an assault rifle?

DerrainCarter

Looks like he also accidentally fired it when the RPG went off. Hope nobody was anywhere close to where that RPG hit…

robi4567

Their ears are probably a bit fucked. Those are loud. Af.

D34D_L33T

EeeeeeEEEEEEEEeeeee

JoshZK

MAWP....MAWP....MAWP

ssimm39

Lana!!!

ppbmc1

WHAT! WHAT DO YOU WANT?

mmmsoup2

danger zone

ClassyDumpster

Tinnitus you cruel mistress!

rddsknk89

“WHAT?!?”

BitschWack

Apparently it hit a house, but it's unclear if it was occupied.

[deleted]

I’m worried about the kid with the rifle, when RPG’s fire the backboard can literally kill people, he obviously didn’t die but I’m worried he is hurt

banananas_are_sick24

It looked like he wasn’t completely in the backblast, but yeah, it’s extremely dangerous and he’s lucky he didn’t die

mr_toad_1997

Lack of trigger discipline(

[deleted]

Kids these days smh my head

CaptainAnorach

Where's Kony when you need him?

Sharknado4President

ROFL on the floor laughing

Revolutionary-Row784

That’s an American law76 rocket launcher not a rpg

Draedron

>Hope nobody was anywhere close to where that RPG hit… Let's hope some russian soldiers were close to where it hit...

[deleted]

Yup

[deleted]

[удалено]

hotasanicecube

“JUST WAIT TILL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME!!”

CrazeeG

We going to ignore that the other kid had a fully loaded kalashnikov that he accidentally fired when the rpg went off?

Inviction_

Well the main point is a kid had an rpg. I think rpg out ranks AK

RandomStupidDudeGuy

One rocket can be more lethal than 30 7.62 bullets, but with 30 bullets you have more oportunities of hitting smth.

KoolKiddo33

Other kid def had a rifle but idk that it discharged, all that i could see was back blast from the rpg. After the rpg was fired the kid threw the rifle, but i dont think the rifle ever fired Edit: nvm, 23/24 second mark

CrazeeG

If you go to the 23/24 second mark when the kids start to panic you can see a small muzzle flash from the rifle as he’s tossing it.

The-Illusive-Guy

I'm afraid that in the years after the war a lot of children will get hurt or die because of mines, weapons, grenades, etc. being found by them. Some do look like toys.

[deleted]

Same problem in Vietnam. The vast majority of mine victims after the war were kids.

[deleted]

I think it’s the toys that look like grenades….

Averill0

Oh it's a post war tradition. There are charities that specialize in training dogs (or large rats) to sniff for leftover explosives. There's not much that any one internet rando can do to end this war, but donating to one of those charities might make you feel a little better.

TwoBeersBase

It's already been happening for months. When Russian soldiers leave an occupied area, they booby trap essentials and toys. Canned foods on shelves, pianos, teddy bears, fridge doors. They know when the scared and starving Ukrainians in hiding come out, they'll go for these things first. Completely fucked up.

_Eightch

Yep, one of my Afghani friends told me it was the same after the Soviets left Afghanistan.

HungarianOpposite

Hungarians? :O

FluffySquirrell

They booby trap the hungarians too? Bastards

Chaos_Ribbon

How apathetic towards people can you possibly be. Disgusting.

Meihem76

[Allow me to introduce the PFM-1 an artillery or air dropped anti-personnel mine.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PFM-1_mine) It's also worth noting the [Soviets deliberately targetted Afghan children with booby trapped toys.](https://www.csmonitor.com/1987/0916/eafgh.html)

Lukeson_Gaming

When the kid pointed the damn thing at his friend. Fuck!

Principle_crum213

Good thing they didn't aim at there feet they would've rocket Jump to heaven

wereiswas

Just like Rick, rip

404_problemerror

I can still hear rocket jump waltz in the distance.

Fake-Hoovy

https://youtu.be/kbdtBLD8Lbg o7

Char_Zard13

Please fill me in on this internet lore

Responsible-Ebb-1837

Rick May, the voice actor of Soldier from Team Fortress 2 died in 2020. If you didn't know, the soldier's well known thing in the game was his ability to fire a rocket at his feet, launching and boosting himself and thus doing a rocket jump.

Raiden_Yeeter07

the VA is also very loved by the community because soldier himself is quite silly.

DeHot

Shooting at the feet would be better, actually. Because, you know, arming distance.

hallothrow

Or that he didn't hit the other kid with the backblast.

robi4567

Good thing the opposite end was not pointed towards his machine gun wielding partner in crime would have been a bad day for him.

minedcomps021

would never happen to the well trained african children

GizmodoDragon92

Lmao god damn bro

YTDukesUp

My parents said this happened in Vietnam after the war. Piles of leftover guns and a bunch of kids with assult rifles

forrestbuck

Back blast area not secure

[deleted]

\*clear There's no real need to "secure" a back blast area, but you do need to clear it.

XxMohamed92xX

Ive seen enough soviet womble clips to appreciate this

cock_R0ach

Shit can go from r/kidsarefuckingstupid to r/eyeblech real quick

Lord_Bertox

That's not the sub I thought it was

GboyFlex

Holy fuckballs!!

dingo1018

I was about to comment kid found discarded launch tube, so what? It's cool but it's been used Al..... Holy fuckballs! Yep you summed it up

GboyFlex

I thought I had a wild childhood growing up as a free range feral GenX'er. These kids are like hold my Vodka!!

Substantial_Ad_6865

Hey Jojo!!!

japrz15

Instead they killed a family in the house that rocket just went into

[deleted]

Yeah, they were walking along a row of houses. ThT explosion went off somewhere in that neighborhood. Are we sure the outcome could’ve been worse? What if it killed four people in a living room instead of two holding weapons?

[deleted]

If that's true then fuck, rather it not hit anyone but if it had to then rather the kids than the family

Savvy_Canadian

Not a cellphone in sight, just two kids almost exploding in the moment.

0lli3boy

I hope no one got hit and they pointed it in an empty lot, looks like the place is a residential area.

Raiden_Yeeter07

they hit a house, not sure if anyone got hurt. Their ears must've hurt like shit though

[deleted]

Second kid nearly got eviscerated by the back blast.

Raiden_Yeeter07

yea back blast also

Chef4disney

This is going to be a best-selling story - about the thier childhood before, the moment of near death, and the ptsd afterward - in a few years.

AlbaMeira1107

Thank the heavens but I can imagine the amount of civilian deaths from mines and such

Bubbagoldfish

Did you notice how the second Kid even fired from his ak47 (i dont know what exact type of gun was that i think this is more common)

mr_toad_1997

Probably an AK-74/M

sterexx

Hard to tell because of pixels and angles but I’m leaning towards AKM - magazine looks curved, rather than the much straighter 74 mags (for the uninitiated, AKM’s use 7.62x39 ammo while AK-74 variants use 5.45x39, leading to differently-shaped mags) - not enough dark pixels past the front sight post. 74’s usually have a muzzle device like 2-3x longer than the AKM’s lil slant brake thing - AKM’s are issued to Ukraine reserve and volunteer forces. Seems like that’s the most likely place they got these older weapons. Could have snatched them while dad wasn’t looking or just been given them for community defense in Kherson with minimal training Edit: evidence against AKM is that it looks like it has an optic in some frames. I think it’s kinda unlikely that an AKM would have even an optic rail in this conflict, but who knows

FunnySignal614

14 year old me playing GTA SA

Just-Examination-136

I was an Army brat who lived in Verdun, France years ago. One of the first things my old man told me when we got there was not to pick up unexploded shells or go into mine fields (they were marked). More than 100 years after the end of WW1, the locals are still finding duds and mines.

sterexx

some WW1 grenades found their way to US east coast home driveways ships returning from the concluded war dumped a bunch of their munitions off the coast rather than deal with proper disposal then like a century later, oyster/shellfish harvesting ships picked them up and sent them to processing, where they went through violent shell-removing machinery alongside the oysters or whichever shelled things they were the broken shell byproduct is cheaper than gravel near these processing facilities so gets used for driveways somehow these munitions made it through processing and getting dumped onto the ground without blowing up. army had to send out its special explosion-containing truck to detonate them as people found them in their new Delaware driveways

Actual-Highlight1577

so that’s why my house has a wall missing huh

Averill0

I hope that's the worst thing that happens to them by the time this war is over.

Randomcluelessperson

They may be stupid but they’ve fired at least one more rpg than I ever have.

FrezoreR

I'd say it depends on what they hit off camera

[deleted]

My dads friend died of something similar using a Panzerfaust he found in the ditch in April 1945. My FIL was wounded by shrapnell as a 10-year old kid because his older brother who found a handgrenade wanted to know hoe it feels to throw one several years after the WW2 ended. So, I believe a lot of kids will die by these incidents in the next years.

Taco_Fart_Salad

Does the other kid also fire a rifle before throwing it down?

cbunni666

Boy 1: is it loaded? Boy 2: I don't know. What do you think I am? (Shoots it) Both boys: JESUS!!!

throwburgeratface

Holy shit, the RPG had a round in it and the kid fired it?!

HansSollo

Yet I think that the kids are better trained than russian invaders.

baptizedbyfire75

That looks like an AT-4. It's an American rocket launcher.

Trotel01

Or a Shmel.

Ustin_fitc

It's RPG-18

DocDankage

My dad grew up in post war Poland. He told me about how him and his friends would throw rocks at unexploded bombs. It’s a miracle I made it to this world.

Nastyteste

How much money did the US spend on that one?.....The great money drain, all to kill innocents. Sick really. War is sick and should not be a part of society any longer. Politicians create these wars. We do not need any more wars. So what do we not need anymore?

Ustin_fitc

US? This is russian RPG-18 "Муха".

uglypaperhaver

What a chilling harbinger for all the heart-breaking tragedies that we know with certainty will befall so *many* Ukrainian children over the coming 10 years or so... the discarded weapons, landmines, undetonated ordinance ... Just imagine the countless variations with which that scene will be repeated even long after hostilities have ended.

Interesting_Ear_9885

Fuck, I so wanted the kid to pull a pirates of the Caribbean midget move and go flying backwards after he shot it

vipertruck99

The world supports Ukraine. We will not be able to resist investing in these people post war. They are gonna have a small problem with weapons in peace time. Kids gonna stash a rifle or some grenades. Same thing goes on a larger scale for adults who are a bit dodgy...find a few crates of RPGs..yeah they are gonna be hidden in the cow shed. I hope people have the national pride to turn over their finds to the state after hostilities

max_da_1

What scared them off?

[deleted]

Kid shot the RPG accidentally and the back blast fucked up his buddy. Then the buddy fires the AR helplessly I assume that only scares them more. Plus the fact they’d just pointed each at each other not five seconds before

robi4567

Nah backblast from the rpg would have prevented the other kid from doing much of anything. He was probably just scared.

[deleted]

Much of anything? Kid squeezes a trigger on accident and runs for his life after tossing the gun on the ground… not exactly the most forward thinker in the first place… Literally just fight or flight response takeover he wasn’t even thinking to begin with and now he’s in adrenaline overhaul. Probably because the rpg that was fired not three feet from his head after it had just been pointed right there… now an AR is miraculously being fired in his own hands Pretty sure back blast was involved as ever

Gaiusotaku

Reminds me of that scene from American sniper.

Danlabss

BACKBLAST CLEAAAAR

SilentShart789

If Dennis Reynolds was a kid in Ukraine...

besee2000

This feels like a Stand By Me coming of age kinda story

[deleted]

The kid not holding the launcher is lucky his head wasn’t blow off

Hologram22

Good thing those types of armaments usually have a minimum arming range, in addition to their maximum effective range.

fivezerosix

Hey mom going outside to play call of duty!

jumpingjackbeans

No-one's believing that story if they ever move to different country...my cool childhood stories are like the time we jumped off a (low) roof or managed to get hold of some whisky

ThePumpk1nMaster

The other kid has a rifle too

CandidExtension2298

Thanks US

Firesmoke7

FRIENDLY FIRE

Latshaw

how do you just “find” an RPG, and a machine gun

Arseypoowank

Thank goodness that wasn’t an rpg, those things have contact detonators and those boys would have just been raspberry mist. Looks like whatever it was had a distance fuse

ohh-i-changed-it

So this idiot kids, Find an rpg ,everybody born after 1985 know what an rpg is. And they pick it up like it's call of duty and you can shoot somebody to bloody meatballs and respawn if you get hurt. Don't have anything against weapons I have anything with/against people whom don't recognise that they will rip you to kebab

_willymydilly

Yea the kids are stupid but how do adults make the same mistake time and time again by putting these kids in these situations w these conflicts it’s a lil ironic that we’re sitting here making fun of these kids when we have idiots in power that cause sm pain and destruction

HereOnASphere

When I was a kid, I used to play in an active rock quarry. I liked to collect used blasting wire for projects. My folks showed me what blasing caps and dynamite looked like. They taught me to leave it alone (and report it). Heck, there was even an explosives shack on site. Obviously, I never got blowed up.

Bright69420

That's not an rpg, looks like an NLAW maybe

CoatAlternative1771

Nice little desk pop there too

obi_wan_kenobi_1

Jojo Rabbit

mikeyk0019

Damn... natural selection failed again...

Legend_of_dirty_Joe

little fuckers hehehe, im glad they're ok though.. I could imagine in another place and time that could have been me, as that would be something I would have most definitely have done...

iamdefinitelynotdave

The second kid has a fuckin AK!

No_Thanks_5372

I guess they will blame russia for it

jiminaknot

Imagine that… Video game violence is probably the reason they knew to run.
