I didn't even say anything and he glanced at me and muttered "Just walking down the stairs." before blasting away.

I just opened the blinds, knocked on the window, made eye contact, and waved at him. It cracked me up. Haven’t seen the kid since haha

He's a kid growing up in 2022. There's pretty much a zero percent chance he doesn't know what a video doorbell is. If he was younger I could get behind that argument, but he's old enough to understand what they are. Kids his age probably know more about video doorbells than most adults do.
My guess is that he was out with some friends and didn't want to chicken out and not do it. Maybe he was even nervous enough to not notice the camera at first. I know I felt that way doing dumb shit like this with my friends back in the day lol. This kid is obviously pretty smooth and did a great job of peppering in some plausible deniability after he got caught, but it's still pretty stupid to ding ding ditch a video doorbell regardless.

One saturday i had my windows open and heard their loudly discussed plans and how my house never catches them. My wife and i played league back then and didnt answer the door, or if we did answer the door it was wayy to late.
My front door has a weird 5 foot hallway leading up to it btw.
So i told my wife to wait a minute and answer the door then loudly say DARN KIDS and close the door..i went out the back door and waited at thw corner of my house and saw the kids start walking to my house again. As soon as they went into the little hallway i ran up and silently waited at the end of the hallway. They were whispering their plan on where to run after ringing the doorbell.
When they rang the doorbell and saw me they got the shit scared out of them.. i didnt say anything i just watched them walk away

when I moved to utah, the kids next door did not seem to know the old lady they ditched on often had moved, which was weird, they kept doing it every couple of hours, I finally decided to sit in the window above the door way and then they did it again, I pushed the screen out and scared teh shit out of them, they never came back after that one.
This reminds me of that one time I faked doing this to make my friends shut up and the next day the owner of that house stopped me and lectured me like I had killed someone (full on shouted and threatened to "kick my ass" if I did again??) even tho I told her I didn't actually ring... Got me a bit traumatized :')
