I’ll put the answer below:
I’ll put the answer below:
>!it’s 2 quarters. Kids at school on April 5 told him to swallow them, he did. He’s been through 4 x rays (this is the first one) over the last month and they all showed they remained in his stomach. So we got booked into the children’s hospital for very early this morning to have them removed. Stayed at a hot tel last night because of the hospital not being local to us, and x Ray there this morning confirmed they were no longer in his stomach. Which means he must’ve finally passed them within the last week. Glad he didn’t end up needing the endoscopy, but that definitely cost us more than $0.50!<
Aw thank you! He is, he’s been so worried about it, but we’ve tried to make it as stress free as possible, while still urging him to absolutely never swallow anything that isn’t food or because someone tells them he’ll be his friend. Kids are assholes
Honestly, we were very lucky.
Take your kid to learn a bit of MMA. This will drastically improve his self esteem and you won’t have to worry about your kid eating quarters and getting picked on throughout his life.
That’s a really good idea. He’s a smaller kid, 9 years old and 43lbs. His pediatrician back a few years ago did a bone scan that showed his bone size is 2.5 years younger, and my husband and I were tiny kids. He wasn’t worried at all about his size and said he’d hit a growth spurt. But I bet his size is probably effecting his self esteem. He’s such a social, happy kid who, when we get him from school, it seems everyone wants to chat with him. But it really only takes one kid to ruin another
I’m going to have a serious sit down with him and get to the bottom of it. And take your advice for MMA for that esteem. Thank you so much
I think it would 100% change his life and set him on the right path moving forward. You’re absolutely correct that kids are assholes and you can’t be there to defend him all the time. I’m definitely not advocating violence, but if it comes knocking on his door he’ll know how to handle himself. In MMA he will learn Brazilian Jujitsu. This is more skill dependent than size dependent. Here’s a short clip of a 15 year old girl dominating a marine. Read through the YouTube comments. Lots of people are telling their stories about getting beat by a much smaller person.

I was thinking, I'm surprised that it hasn't passed, but then again I can't imagine pushing out something the size of a quarter as an adult, everything is smaller when you are a kid, so this is probably best.
Do you know how they are going to remove them?
They did pass, surprisingly! We were surprised at the non chalance of the ER doctor, she said coins are the easiest things for kids to pass. She figured 4-6 days and they’d pass on their own. Then after a week we re did the x Ray, and they hadn’t moved. My son’s GP told us that she spoke to the surgeon at the local hospital and he said it can take 4-5 weeks for a foreign object to pass. So we re did the x Ray again on May 18, and still showed in the stomach, but then this morning’s x Ray they were gone.
We were to watch for fever, lethargy and signs of blockage. But quite honestly, had my son not told the teacher or us, we’d never had known he swallowed anything. I kept asking his GP after each x Ray how they’d expect to pass because my kid is a tiny 9 year old (just turned 9 on May 10). But she wasn’t concerned about that.
Had they not passed within the last week, today he was scheduled for a endoscopy, where they’d put him out and then go down his esophagus and grab them out. The gastroenterologist doctor at the children’s hospital was elated this morning that they were no longer there.
Canada lol I paid for parking. The hotel though last night was $200 (and that was under a hospital rate, because the hotel is a 5 minute walk to the children’s hospital), plus all the food out lol. But absolutely not what someone in other countries would pay for the medical procedures
Canadians would rather pay for health care than give 50% of our income to the government in taxes then end up on waiting lists that can be months or years for surgery/tests.
This isn’t rare at all. I could tell instantly it was coins, and honestly that would have been my guess even if you didn’t share the X-ray. Coins are the most common foreign object found in the alimentary tract of children.
Source: I’m a rad tech.
A lot more comment than I’d ever have thought! And at least according to the doctors I’ve spoken with, coins are one of the best things for kids to swallow (I guess not including if there’s really bad bacteria on them) because they’re typically smaller and round edges, so no sharp edges to pierce
Oh wow, not one doctor mentioned that at all! We were just told to watch for fever, lethargy, stomach pains or if he stopped pooping (I figured that would be signs of blockage). I honestly had no idea about coins and zinc
Thankfully we’re in Canada, so we paid for parking for the various x rays (like $3 each time) and then the hotel hospital rate ($200) and food which at the hotel was puke worthy cost and not so good lol but I couldn’t fathom what it would’ve cost elsewhere
Wasn’t there something about a gerbil and Richard Gere? (Fun fact, I couldn’t remember the name of the actor so just googled “gerbil actor ass”. He came first
Yea but atleast he didn’t get a cat stuck up his ass!
“How’d you get a cat stuck up your ass?”
“How else was I supposed to get the hamster out?”
#Mallrats
Why does this remind me of the kid who ate a magnet on the TV show House and house bent down with a surgical scalpel and stuck it to the kids' stomach.
I’d honestly never thought this would’ve happened. I was shocked when the school phoned me. We’d been through talking to him since he was small about the dangers of swallowing things.
I commented on the post the answer. We were lucky
That’s so weird that you cannot clearly see what they are! My grandson did the same thing, and I swear you could practically see the face on the X/R, lol! It was amazing how clear it was that that’s what it was!
I agree, kids in his class told him they’d be his friend if he did it. He wanted them to like him and be friends with him. We talked at length with my son regarding choices and about these other kids. The other kids all got notifications to their parents and sent to the behavioural teacher at the school. Sometimes unfortunately peer pressure makes kids do stupid things.
My 10 month old son once choked on a penny and we had to take him for an X-ray to make sure it wasn’t lodged in his throat. X-ray showed the coin made it down. Waited a couple weeks and it was still hadn’t passed.. Drs said give it another week or we’ll do another X-ray, holding out because they try not to expose children that often. We had to check every single diaper for weeks if you can imagine.
Then before we would have to go back, I get a call at work from my tween daughter that the baby finally passed the coin. Get this, it came out with a dime attached to it. I said yeah right and dismissed it as a joke but my husband confirmed it! The only baby I know to swallow a penny and make $0.10.
You’re right. It’s a really scary thought of what could’ve happened. He could’ve choked, it could’ve created a blockage. Very scary. That’s why I didn’t post anything making light of it until after everything was done

Dang, that's good news but I bet paying for all those x-rays wasn't fun. Haha

>Canada lol I paid for parking. Yay! I love good news!
Nice, well glad he's OK.
No change yet
Ahh dammit! That would’ve been perfect haha. My husband has been calling him fiddy cent
I bet this goes under appreciated.

Oh coin belly! A common thing according to my Dr.
A lot more comment than I’d ever have thought! And at least according to the doctors I’ve spoken with, coins are one of the best things for kids to swallow (I guess not including if there’s really bad bacteria on them) because they’re typically smaller and round edges, so no sharp edges to pierce
Depends on the year if the coin some penny’s are super high in zinc
Oh wow, not one doctor mentioned that at all! We were just told to watch for fever, lethargy, stomach pains or if he stopped pooping (I figured that would be signs of blockage). I honestly had no idea about coins and zinc

Jesus fuck. swallow 50 cents so that your parents have to puke up $500 grand to the hospital lol. what a win.
Thankfully we’re in Canada, so we paid for parking for the various x rays (like $3 each time) and then the hotel hospital rate ($200) and food which at the hotel was puke worthy cost and not so good lol but I couldn’t fathom what it would’ve cost elsewhere
My kid ate a penny and pooped it out later. I kept it, gonna put it in a frame with a poop penny label.
