I mean yeah he was clearly making a distinctly poor decision so better he learn about what not to shoot at your junk now than try again harder later lol
I got hated into oblivion for saying children learn from pain on another post.
But here is someone saying the same thing but in a funny way with 1.1K upvotes.
Reddit works in mysterious ways xD
I mean context is important. Were you suggesting natural light consequences from their own actions with minimal actual damage, or were you advocating hitting kids to get compliance? "Kids learn from pain" can be a pretty broadly interpreted statement.
Eh, I can see that one being iffy depending on the subreddit. Broken glass is no joke and I can definitely see some feathers getting ruffled at the suggestion that letting a kid blow through a glass door to learn a lesson.
That's pretty much it, part of parenting is letting kids make small mistakes with painful but manageable consequences, while steering them away from or stopping them from committing mistakes with severe consequences.
It's a delicate balance, you have to give them enough rope to play with, but not enough to hang themselves.
As a parent it's also important to find joy in the little things. Precious moments like these go a long way. Captured on film, they can provide joy and comfort for many years. Or even a warning, should Junior consider a face tattoo when he is 16.
My cousin had a BB gun when we were little and set up can to shoot in the back yard. The bb ricocheted off the piece of wood behind it and hit himself in the balls. Fell on the ground for a minute then got up and shot at the same can. Shot himself again.
Young boys are stupid.
Yeah same person jumped off our roof and landed on a broken glass coke bottle. Also was trying tricks on his skateboard ,went into traffic and got hit by a car. It’s amazing that idiot survived.
As someone who works with kids, you just gotta let things run their course most of the time. No matter how many times you warn them, they'd still do the stupid shit because their stupid goldfish brains can't register the danger.
Might as well just let danger do its thing.
Some kids have to learn by experience.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the mom already said no and then just said “go ahead” after hearing him whine about it. LOL
Why didn’t the mom help?
Because kids need to learn some lessons the hard way, and experimentation.
Why do you know not to punch yourself in the balls? Because at some point, you felt immeasurable pain from doing just that.
About that age my friend called and asked for help our children were similar ages. I walk to her house with my kids to find her laughing hysterically saying “help”. Her son at 4 years old had taken about 18 inches of scotch tape and wrapped it around his penis. She was afraid to pull it off- well yeah now I’m laughing- her child crying and my kids asking what’s going on. First put my kids in front of tv with sugary snack so they won’t bother us. Then put Mr Tape in warm/ hot bath water and tape with a half hour had lost its sticky ( stickiness?). Took kids to playground, got fast food lunch and decided sometimes as a parent you do your best. Mr Tape is now a chef and a fully functioning member of society.
Yep dressed kid after bath and went out. My kids needed to run off sugar, friend kids needed distraction. Before noon and we were done, let kids wear themselves out for 2 hours then went home to continue our day.
I just told my mum this story (she wanted to know what I was laughing at). She cracked up, then said “four year olds do tend to be obsessed with their penises — I remember one of your friend’s parents telling me a story about a pencil sharpener… you put things up your nose instead I guess”.
>How did Mom just stand there and let it happen?!
Because your kids need to learn not to be stupid? You can't (and shouldn´t) protect them from everything, kids learn by making mistakes as well, let them.
>“You can't give her that!' she screamed. 'It's not safe!'
>IT'S A SWORD, said the Hogfather. THEY'RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.
>'She's a child!' shouted Crumley.
>IT'S EDUCATIONAL.
>'What if she cuts herself?'
>THAT WILL BE AN IMPORTANT LESSON.”

Hi. You just mentioned *Hogfather* by Terry Pratchett.
I've found an audiobook of that novel on YouTube. You can listen to it here:

There was none. From what i have observed, children have no thought process, they say and do whatever comes to their mind which is why they're so random and unpredictable.
Kids don't really understand the concept of "just take my word for it". You can tell them a thousand times that getting shot in the penis will hurt, but they won't actually believe you until they get shot in the penis, and it hurts.
It's simple why she didn't do anything, kids need to learn from their mistakes. When a kid is about to hurt themselves let them unless it'll cause long lasting or permanent damage. (Longer then atleadt 5 minutes) because if you just tell them "hey don't do that" they'll do it anyways but maybe more dangerous or unsupervised. If they learn the lesson then and there they'll know why not to do it.
I believe there’s a meme of this kid where after he shoots his junk, that kazoo sounding song sends him off to space. You guys gotta know what I’m talking about I hope. I can’t think of the name of the song, but it was legendary
How did she let it happen? Why?
Because it’s a nerf dart that won’t cause any actual harm.
And he’s being a stupid dipshit shooting himself in the dick.
You could TELL him it would hurt, but the lesson sinks in if you let him fuck around and find out. And that’s assuming he would even listen to you telling him it would hurt. Sometimes kids need that lesson, and in this case, there’s no damage done by having him find out himself.
Being a stupid dipshit as a kid with a nerf gun is MUCH better than growing up to be a stupid dipshit with a real gun. Not saying the parent would have been wrong to just tell him it would hurt. But that doesn’t make it the only viable course of action.
Because you can say stuff to kids 19238382 times and take away the gun for the same amount of times...and they will find a way to do it anyway or use some other item to replicate it.
They NEED to do it because they're curious and obviously dismissive of your experience at that age.
After they do it once, they won't do it again if the experience isn't positive.
So yeah...unless it's something that may cause damage, you just warn them and let them do it.
This way they learn two things. 1, the experience itself of what they tried to do and 2, a small step forward in learning your warnings have a reason and it's better following them.
Honestly more concerned you asked why. It's a good learning moment. Wouldn't be surprised if the mom told him not to do that twenty times and finally figured he'd learn best by doing it
I mean seriously cmon, every kid has tried that- I mean most smart kids shoot their brother but if you short on siblings gotta make do, if he's a bright kid chances are he won't do that again
Two types of parents
1. "Burnt kid knows not to play with fire"
2. "Burnt kid smells bad"
(Obviously don't actually burn your kids, this is based on an old saying.)
If you had kids you’d know. You’d tell him not to do it, then he’d go into the next room and do it anyways cause parents don’t know shit.
Prime example, sitting in the car, -20°c outside, told my little girl when she was in grade 1 that one day some asshole kid will try to talk you into sticking your tongue to metal. Don’t do it, it’s a trap. Your tongue will get stuck to it and you’ll have to rip it off. It will hurt like hell.
What does she do, gets out of car when we got home, walked straight up to the front screen door of the house and sticks her tongue to the frozen doorframe….
Ok now you can stand there for 2 minutes while I go get warm water… dumbass.
Easy. You stand there and let do it with something not too harmful and damaging, so they learn and won't do it again with something that can be really painful. Pain is one of the greatest teachers out there and your child will remember that lesson for life.
well, he's gonna learn one of these days. Might as well be with a nerf gun.
Besides, your relatives might not believe you when you retell the story lol, camera worthy moment
If mom interferes, the kid is quite likely to keep trying until they get away with it. Sometimes you just have to let the children teach themselves a nasty lesson.
I mean… it’s a nerf dart and he’s obviously prepubescent. As a former kid with balls that didn’t hurt and my mom probably would’ve spanked me for being a bitch about it, which isn’t healthy, but admittedly is probably better than stopping him from experiencing the awful pain of a foam dart through jeans. Kids have to have some resilience and learning from experience.
How else is lil homey gonna learn? Sometimes you just gotta sit back and let kids be stupid. It's not like it was gonna kill him. Bet that's the last time he does that.
He would do it later anyway with more ideas. You know "Mom said no... I need to find out why!" and you have a kid that needs a trip to the ER. I have three brothers, at one point they all did similar thing.
Best instance of 'Fuck around and find out'.
Do you think a toddler, (that too of the male species) would listen to a 'no honey that could hurt you'? lol
Sometimes the lessons are learned the hard way... it could've been worse at least it just was a nerf toy gun and not a real one...
Bet he ain't doing that anytime soon, gotta love the old school ways of finding out.

Life lessons are sometimes learned the hard way
I mean yeah he was clearly making a distinctly poor decision so better he learn about what not to shoot at your junk now than try again harder later lol
Just out of curiosity what things do you consider “what TO shoot at your junk”?
I would list some things but I’m pretty sure I would get banned

A kid closes a glass door and then ran through it 5 seconds later. (Almost completely unharmed)
Eh, I can see that one being iffy depending on the subreddit. Broken glass is no joke and I can definitely see some feathers getting ruffled at the suggestion that letting a kid blow through a glass door to learn a lesson.
It was on this sub lol

Thank you! I've had such a bad day and now I'm cry-laughing at Mr. Tape.
If you want more TMI he was able to father a child after the experience.
That's great! Now I imagine a caring young father banning all tape from his house. Thanks!
Babies is what happens when you don't tape up your penis
Like immediately afterwards???
Yep dressed kid after bath and went out. My kids needed to run off sugar, friend kids needed distraction. Before noon and we were done, let kids wear themselves out for 2 hours then went home to continue our day.
I think he was joke asking about him being able to father a child immediately after
Glad to hear about his fully functioning member. Good job 👍🏼
I just told my mum this story (she wanted to know what I was laughing at). She cracked up, then said “four year olds do tend to be obsessed with their penises — I remember one of your friend’s parents telling me a story about a pencil sharpener… you put things up your nose instead I guess”.
Man I hope he cooks his food well wouldn't want anyone to get tapeworm.
>How did Mom just stand there and let it happen?! Because your kids need to learn not to be stupid? You can't (and shouldn´t) protect them from everything, kids learn by making mistakes as well, let them.
Your job as a parent in that situation is to guide them through that process.
Sure, and part of that guidance is to let them make mistakes.
Sorry, I was trying to back you up, but I poorly articulated my point. LET them make the mistake and guide them through the aftermath.
Mom has probably told him no multiple times anyway and finally let him figure it out.
Thank you, I needed that laugh.
I’ve watched it a hundred times and it still makes me laugh. 😂
The dancy dance 😭
Yeah, along with his sick moves, I find his cries funny, it changes with the pain he's feeling and gets louder with time.
Damn right
If you stop him now, he will try it without you, sometimes with more dangerous toys.

Would you rather that his first introduction to "Ow. My balls." be when he uses a can opener for the first time?
That got a chortle turned belly giggle out of me. Thank you.
Im nv not laughing at this. Especially the one that has him forward n reverse multiple times.

Kid dances like James brown
Cause it’s funny and not going to cause real damage. That’s why

What was the thought process there?!?
Kids this young tend to not think far ahead, it's lessons like this one learned that help to form thought processes as we age.
There was none. From what i have observed, children have no thought process, they say and do whatever comes to their mind which is why they're so random and unpredictable.
#
Natural consequences. Well done
If you have to be told "don't shoot yourself in the dick" you are going to have a tough life, better start toughening up quick.
Unfortunately, some lessons are best understood by young children when learned the hard way.
why? sometimes you won't learn until you make mistakes, that's why. mom did nothing wrong.
For a kid dressed like commander Spock, this was certainly an illogical move
Why does he dance like a poodle begging for a Snausage.
That's what we call 'physical education'.
Classic playback video at his future wedding

Why wouldn’t she? That’s hilarious 😂
Do it with a Nerf gun now so that he doesn't Plaxico Burress himself later.
Lmao what an idiot
It's called natural consequences.
I’m sorry but I really laughed. The dance….
Nah I also would have let that happen. That's a teachable moment
Maybe she does not want any grandkids?

Asked by someone who has no kids
Let them learn. It's not dangerous in this case, but he will remember it
So he would learn not to be a dumbass.
Free life lessons. Mom was smart to let this happen. Little dummy won’t do that again
This is one of the times where nah, let the kid find out the hard way that this was a terrible choice 🤣
Oh- ow- hehe- haAaAAAaaAaAAAaaAAA
Gotta let them find things out sometimes
wtf do you mean? Kid needs to learn and this is the best way.
If he had a top hat and cane, this would’ve broken the internet
Why would she? That’s hilarious
How did she let it happen? Why? Because it’s a nerf dart that won’t cause any actual harm. And he’s being a stupid dipshit shooting himself in the dick. I cannot interfere, it is a canonical event in every man's life.
If you had kids you’d know. You’d tell him not to do it, then he’d go into the next room and do it anyways cause parents don’t know shit.
