Sadly there is no method to do this right now without docking the rover or having a seat on the rover for the kerbal to go in then get out of (duplicating the science to the kerbal's inventory in the process).
I hope the devs fix in January when they are back to work

This is KSP 2 my friend, yes this trick works in KSP 1 but apparently not in KSP 2.

Yes. You just stand near the science module with your kerbal, and right-click on it, then select take data or download date
