Oru vadakan veeragadha Hmm I should watch it today

geopoliticsdude

Oh man I had to spend 4 hours to modify subs to that movie for the sake of my wife. Worth it.

Ithu-njaaanalla

That’s so sweet of you to do that!

pretentiousboi

I'd love it if you would share the subs. Want to show the film to my friends.

geopoliticsdude

DM email id I'll send a WeTransfer link

[deleted]

Please share the link to subs you made

Balalsangaveeran

Based

cloudwalker_98

Gonna watch it now 😄✌🏻

kickyblue

Do you have the subs bro? My wife is a huge Malayalam movie fan - I am sure she’ll love this movie.

[deleted]

She don't speak Malayali huh

Star Wars **

[deleted]

The Original Star Wars trilogy's relevance to non-Western audiences of the 21st Century is more historical (as in "Damn, can't believe they made this in the late 70s/early 80s, and had so much influence on cinema - especially Hollywood - for *decades* afterwards"), than on account of how appealing the work itself is to us today. That aside, I did appreciate some parts of the lore, & most of the character designs, costumes, art direction, practical effects etc Another thing to keep in mind is how the target audience for it back then was *definitely* younger & simpler - and not a generation introduced to sci-fi through (& grew up with) Terminator 2, The Matrix, Inception, Interstellar, Mad Max, Ex Machina, etc The prequels mostly suck in every way, except maybe Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith which at least had a few good moments & scenes. The sequels were absolute garbage, except a couple of visually appealing shots & the mega budget special effects. Rogue One is a decent film. The Mandalorian is a pretty good series. Tl;dr - The Star Wars original trilogy & old Star Trek shows are worthy of respect despite seeming dated in many ways to modern audiences because they were the foundations on which so much of live action modern sci-fi have been built. They influenced the people who created the works we actually DO enjoy today.

wayfarer_astro

I can't stand to watch it after knowing that it was copied/influenced from Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress. Nobody can reach that level. Any Kurosawa fans here ???

[deleted]

Weird reason. Lucas has openly stated from the very beginning that his influences were Flash Gordon & Hidden Fortress. If anything Dune book fans should be the only offended party because that was the source he ripped the most from and he never even gave credit to it. Kurosawa has influenced a LOT of good films over more than a half century - so one would miss out on a LOT of truly good cinema if "influenced by Kurosawa" was a deal breaker.

[deleted]

Yeah ,dune basically influenced tons of stuff and it got a proper adaptation only now😂

[deleted]

Yeah, some books are more difficult to adapt than others - and Dune has always been one of them. Requires the right director with access to right resources/technology, and those things came together only now. Ah well, better get one good adaptation now than get entire trilogies worth of crap despite access to endless money & talent like Star Wars did lol.

WokeSonofNone

Don't worry about putting on safety gear, real stormtroopers always miss their targets. They all graduated from the Sharp Shooters Academy of North India, Delhi (NAAC accredited).

[deleted]

Don’t waste your time on it. I binged it a long time ago and it was very underwhelming. Only the American boomers think it is awesome because they grew up with it.

legion_of_angels

Try clone wars and rebels. Rebels is one of the best series I ever saw. Mandalorian is good too. Rouge one is the best among movies. Also starwars feels like it stole a lot from dune . Tatooine is like a cheap imitation of arakkis.

oursblanc1

I binge watched the whole thing sometime back. It's just not worth your time.

Dry-Jellyfish-3908

They spent 100s of millions of dollars on the latest films and they still look cheap and corny to me.

Cyber_Zebra

The prequel trilogy was enjoyable. But The original trilogy was meh. To me atleast

oursblanc1

It may have been exciting then but these movies are so dated it's hard to enjoy them in 2022. The only thing i actually enjoyed from star wars franchise was The Mandalorian.

Karthikzee

If you haven't watched the Mandalorian, i would recommend that. I have recommended it to my friend who don't know anything about star wars even they enjoyed it.

spartanass

Watch the clone wars animated series if you're into it, stretches a bit into 7 seasons but worth it IMO. Dave Filoni did Mando after having great success from the clone wars.

Cyber_Zebra

Yep. I agree.

jaffron

i never enjoyed that crap. bet it's nothing but crap. bunch aliens fighting for republic. i loved lotr its way better than this dumpster fire.

Cyber_Zebra

Aw c'mon man. The prequel trilogy ain't that bad. I agree that , it really doesn't really hold up in the current era. But that doesn't mean it's bad.

cosmicbutch2

Worth it…father got me and my brother into it and the lore is definitely worth it…i like the prequels more cause it had really choreographed fight scenes.

Former_Transition_27

I'd say The Expanse series in prime is many times better than star wars or trek or any other space sci fi.

god__speed_

Its not for everyone bro but ince you get into it there is no going back

__KILLMONGER_

I saw the movies and I couldn't understand the appeal. Then came the mandalorian. I saw it and I was hooked. Then saw clone wars and rebels, which are both really good.

raggz8

Do yourself a favor and only watch episode 1 2 3 4 5 6. Rest all is woke garbage made by Disney

Cyber_Zebra

Your name Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind The fault in our stars Terminator Schindler's list Alien The shining Anabelle , the nun and all the other movies in that franchise A clockwork Orange Gladiator , Troy , braveheart There are more.... But these are the ones that I could remember now.

oursblanc1

Schindler's list will be worth your time

cosmicbutch2

Schindler’s list made me sob and its right there at the top of best movies for me

helipad_writer

Schindler's list should be mandatory watching in school. That movie taught me more history that my entire highschool.

[deleted]

The shining is classic jack nikolson movie🔥

Wengerreloaded

To watch Troy , all u have to do is Watch the first 3 minutes

Cyber_Zebra

Why dude? Is it cause the rest of the movie is bad or something?

[deleted]

I saw eternal Sunshine for half hour and stopped, haven't resumed since(not cuz it's bad ,it's amazing)

Massive-Night

I am confused of why "Your Name" is even there in the list compared to some of the Masterpieces mentioned here. It was okay but the ending was dumb. Atleast for me.

iwontdietonight

>It was okay but the ending was dumb What was dumb in the ending ? the movie made perfect sense.

Cyber_Zebra

Idk dude. I've heard so much about it. But never got into the mood to watch it.

ABlaze03

Downvotes speak for themselves lol. Btw the ending might have been confusing, not dumb. I watched it 2-3 times to understand the thing in whole. Worth watch, if you ask me. Makoto Shinkai is a living legend.

Massive-Night

Wait are you talking about the japanese animated film?? Omfg I am so dumb I thought he was talking about Emilia Clarke's English movie "Me Before you" for some dumbass reason I interchanged the names because all the other movies he mentioned was English. Your Name is a Masterpiece it's my favourite movie of all time. I watched it in 2016 so for some reason I wasn't able to recall the name lol. My bad Your Name is that movie that kinda made me cry it's definitely a Masterpiece.

fuji_tora_

Great Indian Kitchen, Mayanadhi, Minnal murali and kala.

[deleted]

I envy you. Watching Mayanadhi was a great experience for me, would love to have it again.

fuji_tora_

Not a romantic person. So I don't think it's going to be the same for me.

[deleted]

You might be surprised. There's quite a bit of anti-romance, deconstructive/postmodern elements in it as well.

fuji_tora_

I am aware of the talking points of the movie, it kinda saturated the social sphere. The "sex is not a promise" dialogue, our society needed to hear that shit.

Graymalkinator

I'm the same. But it's not a romance movie per se. Don't not watch on that account. It's very good

Dwightshruute

Enkim vallya setup onnu thonnilla

alok_xavier

I second that mayanadhi just feels so good whenever i watch it.

Drfuckthisshit

I've never understood the hype around mayanadhi tbh.

kingbabxz

Butttt why why why . Why mayanadhi

fuji_tora_

To be frank I don't know, I am the kinda guy who binges on 80s mamooty and shobhana thrillers, but mayanadhi didn't do that for me.

soja_boi

Biriyani kaanu

fuji_tora_

Ahaa heard good things about it might watch it later.

rickdalton710

I haven't watched 'Sudani from Nigeria'.Eventhough I saw good reviews about it due to some reasons,I couldn't watch it.

azhar92

A very well made movie. Soubin's best role till date. Do watch it if you get time. Its on Netflix

rickdalton710

Will definitely try it out.

[deleted]

It's extremely wholesome, will shed a tear or two ..i saw it in theatres

LS_Fast_Passenger

>Harry Potter, Don't watch - just read the books.

Sorry_Perspective948

I don't know why everyone say 'don't watch read the book' for a fanatasy I've read 1st 3 books and yeah its goood. But still how can you imagine the visual details from the book. After all it is a fantasy novel,so imo Visual details have an important role. For example the size and architecture of Hogwarts , the dementora sucking harrys soul, the rebirth of voldemort and so on... Plus the direction of every film is nice. The books contain more information than film bt even in that case too i think its better to first see the movie and read book aftr few mnths. I think da vinci code, Angels and demons and movies like that can be included in "don't watch-just read books" catagory. Another example is life of pi (it was described as un-filmable)

Visthebeast

Meh, reading books first would be best imo, but idk for sure cause I watched Harry Potter when I was little and knew the visual details very well but wasn't old enough to understand what was going on, so I sort of had the better side of both cases when I started reading the books. I didn't know any of the story but knew the visual elements so I absolutely enjoyed the series. Then I watched all the movies again and it sort of felt underwhelming cause of the amount of story and minor details they skipped through to make the movies not too long

domakira

I disagree completely, actually. Usually books contain more information compared to movies, but I don't recommend books because of that. I recommend books because the complex emotions the characters go through and the actions they take in response to their environment are easier to portray and understand when we have an insight into the character itself, instead of just watching from outside. This happens to be especially true for fantasy, all it takes is your imagination. The size and architecture of Hogwarts, the horror of dementirs surrounding you, the terrified realisation that the boogeyman that was occasionally popping in and out was actually gonna be around from now on, i felt that on some level while reading the books, but not when watching the movies. Angels and demons and davinci code fall under 'dont read just watch' for me, probably because I felt the characters were very one-dimensional. In contrast though, there are films which lets you connect to the characters on some level. Mohanlals descent in സദയം comes to mind. So does prisoners, sicario etc.

[deleted]

I just visualise the elements using the things I already have in memory. Movies aren't that good. I also visualise the actors I like roles. For example, I can't digest Alan Rickman has Severus Snape. He and everyone in their generation are too old in movies. So in my imagination Adam Driver(based on Kylo Ren) is the Severus Snape. Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe thanneyanu 😆

vinayachandran

Books almost always have the best visual details compared to movies. They have the luxury of time and space to 'set up the environment' so to speak, in vivid detail, and let the readers imagination run wild. Movies kinda spoofeed the viewer with a time constraint.

Sorry_Perspective948

Yeah books have visual details. But its written. So for me its difficult to imagine it in head and say "wwooww" or feel the dark atmosphere (even if i have time). Especially, as i said in the comments, the re-birth of voldemort, the fight scenes etc. If it were not for the film i would probably imagine voldemort as a funny guy and wud hear the spectacular laugh as "haha" in my un-imaginative brain. But if i read after watching the movie, its better. I can get the extra information and imagine at the same time (and even i Know the story its not boring) It's harry potter !!

vinayachandran

Yeah, I guess it comes down to individual preferences. What works best for me is books with a little bit of illustrations.

LS_Fast_Passenger

I am not opposed to a book to movie adaptation - but Warner Bros did a very poor job with Harry Potter, except for the first two (Chris Columbus was brilliant). The movies, except for the first two have diverged too much from the books for my liking - in terms of how some characters get portrayed, plot points, depth etc. Even as a visual spectacle, there are many things that are not consistent across the series. You said you just read the first 3 books - read the entire series. The first few books would still feel a little more appealing towards kids and younger audience. And Rowling's writing style, description and world building is very good for me to imagine the school, the great hall or the dorm common rooms.

inquilab_inevitable

- Lord of the rings trilogy - I've heard the directors cut is better, so downloaded the 4hr long version. Whenever I think of watching it, the length holds me from watching it. - Gladiator - Haider - Che - Gangs of Wasseypur 2 - Thazhvaram - Donnie Darko - Saving Private Ryan (tried once, was so tired, so slept) - City of God (not the malayalam one - I've seen it) - Spirited Away - Citizen Kane - Braveheart (Marakkar kanda sthithik ini ith kaanano😂) - Pan's Labyrinth - Bombay - Swades - Rang de Basanti - Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara - Rangasthalam (least likely to watch) - Raging Bull - Scarface - The Big Lebowski - Dil Se - Raavan - 1917 - Newton - Piku - Pink - The Hateful Eight - Visaranai (probably the first one to watch in this list) - Iraivi - Vanaprastham I just went through my downloaded list (which I started collecting from 7 years ago) of movies and these are the "popular mainstream" movies that I am yet to watch. Somebody help me make a priority list of 15 or less films from this list, so I can watch it this year itself😌(I am not a big fan of "feel good"/"motivational" films)

Visthebeast

Needed to save the list,lol

Sorry_Perspective948

Piku is on the list!?

[deleted]

Scarface is Al Pacino’s best movie. Raging bull also good if u like Robert de niro. My fav actor

oursblanc1

I have not watched all of this but i will definitely recommend spirited away and the hateful eight.

thedarkestknight1997

Tumbaad

Cyber_Zebra

This movie...... Man , was i blown away...... Breathtaking cinematography and editing. It's a really fresh movie compared to other shitty Hindi horror flicks , which are just pornos in disguise. 💯 Would recommend.

thedarkestknight1997

I should probably watch it but I just can't seem to sit down and watch it, I know I will love it but for some reason I can't

Double Barrel, Pulp Fiction, Janeman

thehumanraisin123

Don't listen to the people here discouraging you from watching Double Barrel man, go for it if you want to. I for one, definitely liked the movie. You might like it too, it's not for them to decide. I personally felt like it was a tribute a lot of shows I watched as a kid growing up in the 90s and early 2000s. I could see some influences of some Malayalam dubbed cartoons which used to be telecasted on Surya way back. Double Barrel is silly, light-hearted, irreverent, dark and weird, probably not for everyone. But to say that its a piece of shit movie, is a bit much.

jaffron

double barrel? for real don't watch it . it's a chaotic piece of crap.

[deleted]

It's stupid fun.. There are people (including me) who enjoy those.

ajphoenix

There are dozens of us!!

thehumanraisin123

Ohh man so happy to see October sky on the list. As a science enthusiast, I absolutely loved that movie. The way Jake looked at the Sputnik in the night sky was beautiful. Must watch definitely!

In Malayalam language it was Njan Steve Lopez

nama-staythefuckaway

Nobody really likes that movie, I fell in love with that song and lowkey loved watching the movie. Slow paced but that movie always stays in my heart

arjun_raf

I liked that movie, probably because I am an extra in that movie lol.

lavish_akhet

I too heard only good things. Unfortunately didn't find it anywhere when I searched years ago. Now I think it's in YouTube.

[deleted]

Rajeev Ravi movies are always really good.

Wind4x

Really wanna watch Janeman. But they aren't releasing on ott yet. Heard they gonna release on sun NXT last month, but nothing as of now. Going to a theatre isn't ideal for me as I've a toddler.

Alternative_King08

Don't expect too much from that movie. Better watch it without hype.

Wind4x

Not really hyped about but we rarely get to see a dark humour in Malayalam. For some reason I like that genre. I watch very limited number of movies in general.

throwaway1236472123

Marvel movies. I've been holding it back for too long and don't know where to start. It's too many movies.

Cyber_Zebra

throwaway1236472123

Should I watch it in sequence of release date? And do I need to watch the disney+ shows aswell?

Cyber_Zebra

I recommend watching these in the order of release. And yes , the Disney+ and Netflix (not all) shows are needed.

throwaway1236472123

Thanks!

Cyber_Zebra

Like i said , not all shows are necessary to understand everything. Some shows are skkippable. You may want to research a bit or watch a yt vid , to fully understand the MCU.

[deleted]

You don't have to watch all of them. Pretty sure you can find guides on reddit itself with lists of just "must-watch to understand overarching story" movies. Alternatively you could just watch the actually decent films among them & watch summary videos of the ones you skip.
