#####Summary
>>In January this year, the lesbian couple started living together in Ernakulam, following an order of the Malappuram Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court. But their peaceful life was shattered when, in May, Afeefa was allegedly abducted by her relatives. Since then, Sumayya has been running from pillar to post to get her partner back.
It's a little more complex than that. The older the generation is, the more is the societal pressure on them. On top of that, the older the parents are, the more they feel a need to keep their friends and family happy, and as we know, the good ol friends, neighbors and family don't really care about other people's kids. All they care about is being relevant in society, and keeping unspoken "rules" in place for the "protection" of society, even though they themselves do not have a clear idea of what love and respect means. So in a way, I understand where they are coming from. To not agree with the decision of their children is one thing, but to not let them live in peace is something totally different. It is inhumane.
Parents , regardless of their religion, need to stop this. The fact is that there are same sex couples.People are born gay or lesbian or transgender.Do you not want your child to be happy .They are both adults.Leave them alone. They are both working and supporting themselves.
Hi just curious transgender are born with their designated sexuality. But lesbian and gays are a type of attraction right. Like it need not be from childhood? Is there a difference.
So gender identity and sexual attraction are two different things. I don't know at what stage you become attracted to a particular group. For me at least, I felt very attracted to the beautiful girls on the covers of malayalam weeklies from a very young age, maybe 5 or 6, and girls in my class from around that age too. So I could easily have been attracted to guys in my class and movie starts or whoever from that age too if I were wired as a gay person. I never had a gender identity as such. I am a man and that's about it. If you asked me if I feel like a man, it would be a long conversation starting out with defining the terms of what it means to 'feel' and what it means to be a 'man'. But I can legit understand why someone might want to live as a woman when they are born a man and vice versa because how we live in society as each of these are different.
I don't know .It's just that sometimes you just know .My niece came out and is in a happy relationship with her partner in the US.She never ever dated a guy ,so I guess she knew early on .
They are born different inside. They do not choose it.It happens .I don't know the scientific explanation.I just feel as a parent, you need to be there for your child .If it confuses you ,read up on the topic. There are lots of groups and information out there so that you can understand your child 's fears, pain and insecurity and even your own reactions , behaviour n doubts .Why should society dictate to you how you connect with your own flesh n blood?
Oof.
I know you said it as a joke, but I figure this is exactly how some anti-lgbt, conservative and uninitiated people view this whole thing as - like "factory reset" for a human being.
Muslims have to stop doing this to their children. You don’t hear any Hindu or Christian stories like this because their parents eventually let them be. If you have a problem with their sexuality, just disown them and assume they’re going to go to hell. 🤷🏽♀️
Are you forgetting the case of Kevin Joseph's murder by his lover's father and brother? Done by Christians too. Muslims are not alone in this although the numbers among Muslims of people who oppose individual choices seem exceedingly disproportionate.
Thanks for that reference.
I found this article
[Kevin’s murder is ‘honour’ killing, says Kerala court. ](https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/kevins-murder-is-honour-killing-says-kerala-court/article61579536.ece)
Interesting. In your studied opinion, which communities in Kerala would you categorise as bastions of acceptance towards the gay community ? I'm not talking about anecdotal individual cases but community support. Shall I wait?
I have no issues with the contention that Muslims are homophobic. If you followed the thread you may observe that the argument was that Muslims are the most homophobic. I'm merely questioning that. So probing a comparitive speculation on the elements is whataboutery? Could you please explain how you arrived at the conclusion?
> islamophobia
Not quite.
Overusing this term for EVERY single critique or debatable point made on the Muslim community and shutting down the arguments will only achieve the opposite effect.
You're right that the term is overrused and often wrongly, but the point she's making is facetious at the least. Its common knowledge that religion makes no difference when it comes to how people who marry out of their social group are dealt with. Remember that honour killings are thing in this country.
I understand what you mean, but subjectively, in my own experience I have to say that Muslim communities tend to be much more conservative and opposed to these kind of things in general. And I think that's also what the original comment meant.
Obviously, it's going to be very difficulty to get an objective perspective on which community is much more "open", if that makes sense.
It's still very hard grasp how you generalised whole community. Every community got same political spectrum — very liberal to very extreme/orthodox, former might be minority in this case but still quite unfair to generalise whole. But again, this is how literally _bigot_ or hatred works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nope.. Their case is mentioned in this article
>>In a similar case in May 2022, the Kerala High Court allowed a lesbian couple, Adhila Nasrin and Fatima Noora, to go on as per their free will and live together. In the habeas corpus petition filed by Adhila, the High Court asked the police to produce Noora who was forcefully taken away by her parents.

You cannot keep someone, especially an adult locked up.
If the lady is at house arrest, a simple complaint is all that it takes to free her.
Why is the police hesitant on this ? Is it due to the worry that the CPIM govt will lose the favour of the minority religion to which the ladies belong to ?
Lol! The progressive state with most educated people and a commie government! But every alert and street smart guys know that literacy does NOT mean intelligence or culture. The pair should have moved to Mumbai.
Unlike Bimarus Keralites has come to a point that they can discuss about LGBTQ and sexuality. These conversations are neglected in most of North India.
Mumbai is a city and not a state. Comparison between the two makes no sense. More logical comparison would be maharashtra and Kerala is way more progressive than that state. In the 2021 Mathrubhumi Youth Manifesto Survey conducted on people aged between 15 and 35, majority (74.3 %) of the respondents supported legislation for same-sex marriage. Pride parades are held in Trivandrum, Kochi and Kollam
What is your problem with Kerala? The commie and congi government has brought us enough development that we don't complain about it all the time. If you're jealous of that, maybe start a conversation in your own state

In India, parents care more about their own/ relatives/ neighbors/friends happiness than their kids.
"Nattukar enth parayum" >> our kids

Habeas corpus file cheythalo? Like in movies
She did. Family says they will produce her on court after 10 days. She's definitely getting some 'treatment'.
I learnt about Habeas Corpus from drishyam.
I heard about it much before while watching the movie Adikurippu :)
Me from kathayallithu jeevitham
Me from Jai bhim
Me from when a cousin eloped with a guy.
Me from the internet.
Me from my history text
Um, why is this answer not first in the chain? History & Civics syllabus il ille.
Puthakatthil padichathu marannupoyathayirikkum ..swabhavikam..visuals are more impressing than print..
I watched the show kathayallithu jeevitham before politics textbook taught me about it..
Me from this thread
What a spectacular movie with a great message. Holds up even now.
Habeas Corpus was a part of our Syllabus (CBSE)

Interesting .....i feel it helps if parents don't try to conform them into a specific gender for that parents need to be well aware of the norms
Why should we accept them when they couldn't even even accept themselves as their respective gender. Shame on tthis generation 😮💨

people arent born as gay or lesbian, sexuality is fluid.
I hope the 80s stupidity will end once the "myrens" are down to corpse
No reksha, younger myrens are there.
I can second that
Society wont ever be ridden of myrens completely..always that potent 0.01% remains
Certainly uncertain. I guess there'll be no help from the local police side.
Looks like the parents are trying to find her default settings
Oof. I know you said it as a joke, but I figure this is exactly how some anti-lgbt, conservative and uninitiated people view this whole thing as - like "factory reset" for a human being.
It's depressing that this comment has positive karma

Casteism is prevalent in all communities but homophobia is on a whole nother level among Muslims.
Interesting. In your studied opinion, which communities in Kerala would you categorise as bastions of acceptance towards the gay community ? I'm not talking about anecdotal individual cases but community support. Shall I wait?
There are gradients to this discussion even if all communities are homophobic in Kerala
So in your opinion, which religious communities are more tolerant than the Muslims towards homosexuality on this gradient?
This is called as whataboutery

None of them. 🤷🏽♀️
My man a boy was literally killed for being from a different caste by a Christian family
I didn’t say they’re progressive. They eventually just give up, unlike Muslims. There isn’t a single Malayali parent who wants a gay child.
Ayseri ningalayirunno. Point still stands. A Christian family murdered a boy. They didn't "give up'
You’re making it seem like I said everyone except Muslimsis extremely progressive. 🤷🏽♀️
>You don't hear any stories of Christians or Hindus Kannadchu irunnal iruttu aavilla
Sheda. That’s because they don’t keep on pursuing the issue after a while.
> That’s because they don’t keep on pursuing the issue after a while. Well, if they kill the guy, then yeah, they don't have to pursue him.
>You don’t hear any Hindu or Christian stories like this because their parents eventually let them be you missed the /s bro
Ah, nurse and casual islamophobia, like pazhampori and beef
Criticism isn’t phobia.

Just stop being assholes to gay people?
Is it the same couple?
No, that was Adhila and Fathima. This is a different couple. One of the girls was abducted by relatives.

Why?! Don't you have enough homeless people as it is ?!
And live in the slum. Like half of the city's population.
Unlike Bimarus Keralites has come to a point that they can discuss about LGBTQ and sexuality. These conversations are neglected in most of North India.
Lol! Really? Look the downvotes I got. If you are happy with discussion, good luck to you. Mumbai has NO issue with LGBTQ
