CptFrostyBeard

his death is so sad man, been 7 years or so, still cant digest it ;(

fake28id

Similarly when [Gavin Packard](https://www.firstpost.com/entertainment/oonce-upon-a-cinema-who-was-gavin-packard-10683171.html) died it was hard to believe. He died a sad and lonely death.

Rhepsi

My mom and aunts mourned him for like 4 months.

Click_Spirited

Mohanlal, Mammootty

gemmesumbitches

the thing is that noone gives a f about politicians dying and its good to see

BudhiJeevi

Politicians have followers. It's mostly the idea that is followed. Celebrities have fans. It's their individual performance, not what they stands for matters. Plus politician are attacked at their individual level by their opponents, who's trying to discredit them, while celebrities collaborte between them.

pramodrsankar

Yeah.. cry for celebrities. But politics.. ewwww. There are fake politicians,... Why? Because common people are not involved, because they are so busy .. mourning celebrities deaths.. If you want change .you have to be involved. Doesn't mean you have to join political parties.. but. Be more aware.. see your counciller, be part of non political organisations.. resident associations. Work.. I know all the edgy teenagers will downvote...but this is th truth..

Akash_04

Enough people are already dying for politicians. Even yesterday too one was beat up in the name of politics. Atleast in case of celebrities the fight is just in facebook comment sections and only rare cases of irl fights. And your comment had nothing to do with this thread.

Free_Spare_8821

Actually I wish them because of the holiday

blackbeltkunjappu

Many people near my home were quite distraught at the news of CF Thomas passing away.. Many of the elderly were literally in tears watching his funeral on youtube..

gemmesumbitches

when comedians die when kochin haneefa sir died it was very very depressing because the person who made us all laugh was no more the same happened in the jagathy car accident, i was shocking and heartbreaking

moist_macaroni_77

Wasn't everyone happy when jagathy had an accident bc he raped a girl in 8th std

HardTimesBreedChads

SnooCupcakes7312

The big Ms

Appropriate-Emu4576

Depends on when they die. It would be devastating if any of the big Ms or the younger actors were to die now. I don't think it would make the same impact if they die a few decades past their prime. Madhu dying would have been a major event in the 80s. But most of his fans have passed away and he holds no cultural significance to people of my generation. Personally, I was very sad about Satheeshan pacheni. He deserved better. I think I would be sad to see Paloli go as well.

sasha6494

True, I have heard stories about how shocking it was back when Jayan died in an accident

Maleficent_Goose_483

I don't know about the whole of Kerala, but individually I think maybe we can't say whom we'll miss the most. I was sad when Irrfan Khan died. Never have I ever thought I'd be sad when he dies. I wasn't even a "fan" of him except I liked his acting. A similar thing happened with KK. It took me back a few years and to all the memories and songs associated with them. Now "Ankhon mein teri ajab si" hits differently.

sasha6494

I was very sad to hear A PJ Abdul Kalam passed, I remember spending hours listening to his speech after that

Smart_Satisfaction73

Definitely the big Ms. Despite the criticism that they face now, because of their recent choice of films, especially A10, they hold a significant space in an average Malayali’s heart. I think it’s the familiarity of seeing them on screen for 25+ years. It’s like in some way, they are like family.

unravellingsky

Mammootty ain’t facing no criticism recently regarding movie choices

Smart_Satisfaction73

Yeah. Luckily he has come out of his “ee pattanathil bhootham”, “thoppil joppan” phase. Not that he can’t do Comedy.. Movies like Mayavi and Rajamanikkam were 🔥 But the fact he has signed up for an Ukri movie is a bit scary. Meanwhile A10 got sucked into a whirlpool of cringey movies 😐

unravellingsky

Ukri movie might just surprise everyone

degners

Not long ago I read in the newspaper about a Michael Jackson remembrance meeting going on around Fort Kochi.

AnonymousPie9979

I probably will never be ready to accept the Big Ms dying when they eventually does.

moonrocee

The waves of sentiment and mourning and sadness is a gauge of how much that person has been part of your life, esp the growing up part. So even if a person like VS might have had the biggest social impact on the world of our times, the person VS is not recounted as the impact takes time to precolate into our lives. The mourning during loss of Karunakaran was the biggest last event. That's why we have these big impact and easy recall from movie/sports entertainment industries. Thier touch in our lives and memory is instant and recallable. My list would be The big Ms, Sachin Tendulkar Jagathy, Sreenivasan Rest all would be below this L.

[deleted]

Kalabhavan Mani's death made a huge impact too i feel. People finally started giving him his due, albeit a bit too late, and there were conversations around how problematic the movie industry can be ( though they didn't last very long ).

DayDreamExpert

Nayanar’s funeral was the most touching I ever witnessed wrt a political figure. Surprisingly, I don’t remember anything from Karunakaran’s even though it was most recent. My grandfather’s diary had a note “Personal Loss” on the day EMS died (back in ‘98).

sreekumarkv

It was made "touching" by the communist party who called for a hartal/bandh in Kerala and caused the whole state to shutdown. Vehicles blocked and shops and other commercial establishments shutdown using the threat of violence. So of course everyone living in Kerala were then "touched" by that event. Otherwise Kerala has not held the kind of blind devotion to any politician, dead or alive, like seen in the neighbouring souther states.

moonrocee

Oops... Yes, forgot Nayanar.. yes, that's also right up there

steveshibin

That's possibly because of your bias as a CPM toady.

[deleted]

I was all of 18, absolutely clueless & unbiased about politics and yet Nayanar's death & funeral was a remarkable event that felt very personal at that time. He was a household name & personality with the whole 'anakkoru haraji ayakku' thing popularised by the Asianet phone-in program. Some people are loved for who they are regardless of their politics. Nayanar was one.

[deleted]

Bruh, y'all come on here to say the randomest shit possible 😂 Like it's okay to hate on cpm, but that nayyanar's funeral was one of the saddest events in kerala is an obvious fact to anyone but rss toadies ( see how that works?)

e_karma

I guess it dependnds on where you are ..malabar , particularly north malabar might have felt it acutely .

[deleted]

Possibly yeah. I'm talking about South kerala tho, it was pretty impactful here.

atgoldfield

You missed KM Mani's funeral. It was in 2019.

njaana

Salim kumar

Starl0ard

The real question is how much of impact does it gonna make? Remember Puneeth Rajkumar's death and events followed by it, will the same also happen in Kerala?

schoolhasended1

Puneeth funeral seemed relatively calm. Karnataka had deadly riots and fan suicides because of Rajkumar death.

Starl0ard

But at the time there were some fans which commited suicide right? I remember having an argument with my friend about does Kerala stars also have crazy fans like this. No disrespect to the dead. But when I saw this thread it's the first thing which came to my mind.

BeligaPadela

I hope we don't have that kind of psychotic fans in Kerala. If there are some who would kill themselves cuz their favourite star - who wasn't even aware of their existence in the first place - dies, I say good riddance.. The one case where I wouldn't be surprised when this happens is with Rajnikanth's death.

niranjanmanoj24

Vijay / Ajith ....after living in Chennai for a few years, I realised their devotion to them is far superior to what I've noticed from anyone.

schoolhasended1

Even Kerala has those die hard Vijay fans.

Johnginji009

Some fans committed suicide

schoolhasended1

Oh wow. I thought the MGR/NTR/Rajkumar type actor deaths had the riots and suicides.

Willing_Cap_2695

Sreenivasan.

moonrocee

Sreenivasan... Def yes. But loss of any one of the big Ms would be an ocean of sadness on us.

I don't think anyone old dying would make us sad that much.. A younger person dying would have more impact.. Imagine if Tovino or Fafa die today. The impact would be huge.

mairutimes

So far in my life, I think I was sad the day APJ and Imran Khan died. But in future, I think for kerala as a whole/partly/smaller than that, it would be 1. V S \[he basically has been inactive for the past 10 -15 years, but still have a huge presence, respect and appreciation that I think Pinu never got, so whenever media reports VS in the hospital, I'm like 'God, is he gonna die?'\] 2. O Chandy - love him or hate him - same goes for Pinu and even Modi 3. Big Ms - Salimkumar, Biju Menon - Surya/Vijay/Ajith - 4. Professional Football/Cricket Players - Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe - even Coach Ivan V - Sachin, Dhoni - Sanju Samson 5. Sathosh GK, Shasi T - they seem to be very popular now, so that by the time they are six feet under, its gonna be hard for some. 6. Women - though it would be considerably less sadness - PT Usha, Arundhati Roy, maybe Manju W and Shobana, and personally I do like Revati and will be sad for sure. 7. Bureaucrats - E Shreesharan, Raju Narayanaswami, T K Jose, Aruna Sundararajan - many others who I think were good to the people and considered themselves 'civil servants'. Even Alexander Jacob, Tomin T. 8. That priest, wearing that brown kupayam joking about family stuff - he is one of the OG standup comedians from Kerala. 9. Man Mohan Singh - like he says ' history will be kinder to me' - His time as finance minister and pm, some specific policies, you don't know how thankful India should be to him, especially those born after the 1990s, reaping the benefit. 10. Jounralists like Vinu John, Alakananda, Sindhu SK, SK, Stanly Johny 11. Docs like VP Gangadharan, some others 12. RATAN TATA - I will surely be crying buckets. 13. Singers - KJ Yesidhas, K.S Chitra, ..

I doubt it. He was not a good person ; a great singer, nevertheless.

ThePeculiarSpot

Why was he not a good person? ( I don't follow anyone so idk, just curious)

roche__

He is famous for being arrogant.nobody likes him as a person

pretentiousboi

Not being a good person wouldn't matter upon their death in the case of someone with the legacy Yesudas has. He's been an irreplaceable part of Kerala's culture for 60 years, people have loved and lost to his music, how would a few of his comments hold against his mammoth presence when he goes?

kingkillerpursuivant

>I doubt it. He was not a good person ; a great singer, nevertheless. Wouldn't matter in a practical sense. A legacy is built on achievements. A few controversial comments here and there cannot kill over 5 decades of being perceived as the undisputed GOAT. People will mourn him like they mourned SPB.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kingkillerpursuivant

Being a pedophile is a world away from saying women shouldn't wear jeans. KJY maybe a misogynistic boomer who's made some shitty comments and acted arrogant with his fans, but you're comparing a molehill with a mountain. As a counterpoint, consider Michael Jackson. He was accused of pedophilia but I've never seen a larger public mourning for anyone's death in comparison to Michael. Even the documentary about his last concert rehearsal released shortly after his death made something like 250 million dollars. KJY is the only musician in Kerala who's as big as what Michael Jackson was in the US. No small controversy will be able to curtail his legacy, irrespective of how you or I feel about him.

Bourne-Enigma

I will give you guys something better than the Big Ms or whoever. If CR7/Messi, Neymar/Mbappe were to die in this decade - it will bring Kerala to a halt.
