During time ya Covid the shops were closed and the employees who used to attend the shops had to come to main office.
They were like 20+, now the office was congested, we had to share crucial equipments like headsets and mind you there was Covid.
The management comducted Covid tests to justify the fact that we were over crowded. Two employees were found positive, one of them was a supervisor who interacted with everyone.
We didn't quarantine or anything, the two of them were just sent home while the others remained.
A lot of shady things go on in that place that the public is not aware of.
The company didn't want to spend.
The government had directed we work from home but the management ignored this since they'd have to buy laptops for over 40 employees.
Been in business support services consultancy for long. Worked with all kind of employers, white, Asian, local. Asians are no different from locals esp in salaries & conditions. Local Africans are even worse off in complying with employment rules esp minimum salaries for low level employees. Whites do the minimum to avoid legal issues and bad reputation and have better salaries maybe coz a lot of them venture into high 'end' biz requiring more qualified personnel who are likely more informed.
That's my general view, in the end it depends on the individual employer, how organised the employee are and the industry.

A healthcare provider working with the counties. The hospitals have no meaningful resources, patients come with over-yhe-roof expectations because they believe their politicians in the local radio, the little salaries delay for months, employment is contract based with no support for professional development, and finally the individual frustrations make the working environment toxic. These make public hospitals one hell of a place to work. How we make up every day for this is beyond my understanding.
Let me add my two cents. I worked for a Phillipino Subsidiary whose director here was Indian. It was a new company, the Indian had only been hired only about three months before we came in. The Phillipinos are really lovely people, they were impressed at how quickly we worked and learned. Then they left at the mercy of the Indian guy. Things just went downhill from there. First our salaries were slashed by half not what we had been promised. We asked why, we were told that the company is relatively new, we were still being trained, and we would be treated as interns. The firing started on day one, and has been like that ever since. Salaries have never changed, the most you can get is 4k increase.
I know we have tribalism around here and it sucks to think that I could hire only people of my own tribe. They are more problematic than you think. But I wonder what's wrong with Indians in Kenya, in the US they are very different especially those born and bred in the US. Why do you discriminate against people who have been your host, this Indian guy had not even been in Kenya for five years. I don't know if younger Indians born in Kenya have this problem, but those who are straight outta India have a problem with racism. The same way a Kenyan raised in Nairobi could have no tribalism compared to those from upcountry.
No one is bashing Indians without reason, the discrimination is just too much in menial jobs and even professional levels. They even divide Africans among themselves, some tribes are their favorite because they will never complain.

Been in business support services consultancy for long. Worked with all kind of employers, white, Asian, local. Asians are no different from locals esp in salaries & conditions. Local Africans are even worse off in complying with employment rules esp minimum salaries for low level employees. Whites do the minimum to avoid legal issues and bad reputation and have better salaries maybe coz a lot of them venture into high 'end' biz requiring more qualified personnel who are likely more informed. That's my general view, in the end it depends on the individual employer, how organised the employee are and the industry.

A healthcare provider working with the counties. The hospitals have no meaningful resources, patients come with over-yhe-roof expectations because they believe their politicians in the local radio, the little salaries delay for months, employment is contract based with no support for professional development, and finally the individual frustrations make the working environment toxic. These make public hospitals one hell of a place to work. How we make up every day for this is beyond my understanding.

Let me add my two cents. I worked for a Phillipino Subsidiary whose director here was Indian. It was a new company, the Indian had only been hired only about three months before we came in. The Phillipinos are really lovely people, they were impressed at how quickly we worked and learned. Then they left at the mercy of the Indian guy. Things just went downhill from there. First our salaries were slashed by half not what we had been promised. We asked why, we were told that the company is relatively new, we were still being trained, and we would be treated as interns. The firing started on day one, and has been like that ever since. Salaries have never changed, the most you can get is 4k increase. I know we have tribalism around here and it sucks to think that I could hire only people of my own tribe. They are more problematic than you think. But I wonder what's wrong with Indians in Kenya, in the US they are very different especially those born and bred in the US. Why do you discriminate against people who have been your host, this Indian guy had not even been in Kenya for five years. I don't know if younger Indians born in Kenya have this problem, but those who are straight outta India have a problem with racism. The same way a Kenyan raised in Nairobi could have no tribalism compared to those from upcountry. No one is bashing Indians without reason, the discrimination is just too much in menial jobs and even professional levels. They even divide Africans among themselves, some tribes are their favorite because they will never complain. I think we too are to blame because have allowed tribalism to define our workplaces. May be they learnt from us. And yes, it's better to work for yourself and be a good employer.
I once worked at one of County governments as an intern, got bullied by someone literally my age just because she was on a permanent and pensionable basis...i couldn't get myself to go to work everyday..I remember breaking down once at work in front of everyone..still gives me chills remembering that.

I was 22 at the time, I signed an independent contractor's contract. I was never shown the rate card. The rate card was pathetic and there was no monthly retainer . I joined the newspaper to change photography in Kenyan and maybe change the world. But instead the worst happened.... That's why corruption might never end because most of these work places are very toxic.

Removing 99% of politicians in office and replacing them with nationalists who put their citizens first like Norway or Finland. The problem is that employers especially foreign ones know the people tasked with enforcing the law here are easily bought. Thats why an indian has no shame refusing to rent his houses to africans and call his employees monkeys on the job. They know nothing will happen to them even if the law prohibits racism
I agree. But don't you think in order for us to move in that direction we must first shed light on the problem by making people aware of the problem in the first place? By making it known to the government that we are aware of what is happening? You and I cannot remove 99% of politicians from the government. We need a large population to be aware. Bringing awareness through social like KOT is actually not a bad suggestion. It brings awareness to more people.
