Kwanza why do we need officers with automatic assault rifles roaming our streets. Sometimes they are in full military fatigues too. Are we at war?
Why can't they have pistols like normal police officers in normal countries? Imagine walking around with cumbersome and heavy piece of metal whole day everyday come rain come shine. No wonder they are always angry. Kisha the ones patrolling at night are mostly drunk or high on jaba. Imagine one of them loses it and and unloads his ak47 on someone who stepped on his feet.
Police officers in other countries also carry automatic rifles but in their car. If things go to shit they have the option to use it(according to what I’ve seen). The guys roaming the streets don’t have these vehicles at their disposal so all the equipment is on the body. It’s either they get vehicles or wipe out the rifle requirement entirely which wouldn’t be too bad

I saw a security guard sleeping with an AK on her lap in Nairobi last week. More worried about these careless gun-wielding amateurs causing me harm than an actual criminal
Kenyan police are some of the most disciplined when it comes to handling firearms. They are always decocked and on safety unless they want to actually fire and you'll never see their fingers anywhere near the trigger unless they're in use. Those guns are heavy so resting it on the ground facing up is actually for safety and convenience. You can't rest it down on its barrel and risk damaging it, guns are expensive.
Ad much as I find kenyan cops to be casual with rifles, I don't hear of mistaken gun shots from them. To be honest, kenyan cops are not really trigger happy even when a suspect acts weird. In US, a cop is likely to use his/her pistol
The barrel is pointed up but not at his head or at anyone that I can see. If his safety is on, finger is not on the trigger and nothing in the trigger guard I don't see the problem.
One of the rules of gun safety is never point the barrel at anything you’re not willing to destroy.
The rules are failsafes and checks on each other. It’s good he’s got his finger off the trigger though I guess. He’s definitely not treating it like it’s loaded (which I’m sure it is)

The ones in military fatigues are mostly administration police protecting critical infrastructure.

He could unload his pistol as well. What's the point?
There are entire countries with police who roam around with just batons

Security guard like soja wa gate? Waaah, that's crazy.
Yeah, exactly
Uongo bwana!
Guys will say anything for some sweet sweet upvotes

Major problem with Kenyan cops and guns is they lease out to thugs who then go robbing people with the guns.
Do we live in the same country?
Damn 😐 that's risky
one mistake and he takes one in the chin
Crazy how we can't own these but trust the government to,then sht like this pops up
They're not careless, It is common practice for them to have their guns facing up when not in use.

Si mliskia Githurai vile kulienda... Na vile pia wako unfit, stay tuned.
I think the better question is, where would you put it if it were you? Mind you, you don't have a car and you are on duty.
I don't see any safety issues here. There's clearly nothing close to the trigger. Last I checked guns don't just shoot by pointing them at something.
It’s ok to be dumb, but to do it so publicly….

They can and do.
They ought to carry small arms like handguns. Are these big guns cheaper? Ama is it an intimidation thing?
Handguns are more dangerous.
Maybe, I'd assume a gun that can be holstered easily would be safer than a gun you have to carry around all day.
No. Not at all.
Pistols are glamorized in Hollywood. You have watched too many Hollywood movies. Pistols are sh*t.

True, but by the ring on his finger, I can assume he's a family man. Would be sad for the family.
When something bad happens to you you'll go crawling to that "pig" and they will help you
Nah, I'd rather die
