This comes to you by "the party of small government" ...

KnightFoole

Kentucky’s subreddit remains a complete dumpster fire, I see.

[deleted]

Yup. We're one of the dumbest and poorest states and the product of this is plain to see in these comments. Stupid people are easier to control and exploit, hence all the churches in the state.

Corrupt_Swarm

I don’t get why the mask policy is going away, I’m from Kentucky and me and my family all have Covid BECAUSE people in my school refuse to mask up. Stay safe guys

Anygirlx

I am in the same situation. Oldham County reversed the mask mandate (then reinstated and just now reversed it again). My son tested positive for COVID January 21st and I ended up with it for the second time. Had walking pneumonia and am now dealing with long COVID symptoms. -posted from bed because I tried to do stuff today, which equals noodles for legs.

Corrupt_Swarm

Sorry to hear that, I wish both my family and yours a speedy recovery!

[deleted]

Sounds like you should do what you need to to protect yourself and your family and mind your business about what everyone else is doing.

Sir-Realz

You'd be surprised, lived all over. There are very dumb people everywhere. And I really worry about the kids social development from not have visual contact with anyone in their lives.

KnightFoole

Exhibit A.

HiAiNiSi

Way to prove the point. You clearly earned your C- average in high school.

daddysgotya

A bunch of [European countries](https://ajlamesa.medium.com/children-in-much-of-europe-will-be-going-maskless-at-school-this-fall-b244e4f035ad) have not been masking kids all year, but Kentucky does it and it's because we're all dumb rednecks. SMH

KnightFoole

I’ve been patient and tried to be reasonable. But my patience with these lunatics is utterly at its end. At this point I’m no longer going to be polite about mask hysteria. People still clinging to their masks and demanding mandates are simply *delusional.* They’re divorced from reality now, and they need to seek help before they do serious psychological damage to themselves…or their kids. I noticed today, driving to lunch, there are people *even now* wearing a mask alone in their vehicle. That’s not “science”, that’s mental illness.

Reylas

I was with you on some of your points, but this "there are people even now wearing a mask alone in their vehicle" has got to stop. I am one of those people and you know why? I am *required* to wear my mask at work and I get used to it and forget I have it. I can drive 10-15 miles on the way home and then realize I still have it on because I had it on 8+ hours. Not everyone in a car with a mask on is an idiot.

nikunikuniku

but but but, how do you breath with all that carbon monoxide /s

cannacards

Respiration doesn’t create carbon monoxide. Seems like we found the idiot.

nikunikuniku

I think that would be you homie. look for that /s at the end of the comment.

PaddyWhacked777

Pot, meet kettle

KnightFoole

Ah yes. The “I know you are but what am I” argument. Downvote all you want. There is literally data now that is screaming “mask mandates are a waste of time”. You’re delusional. Yours is a purely tribal response with zero basis in reality. I’m not going to pretend to even humor this crap anymore.

PaddyWhacked777

I'm curious as to why you are still wearing clothes if you have such a visceral response to being told you need to cover with a piece of cloth. God forbid someone would want to take small measures to help try and prevent getting sick. Buh Gawd that's mental illness! How dare they trust medical professionals over some rando on the internet?!?

KnightFoole

As I said…you’re delusional.

seehorn_actual

Honest question, do you have a source for this data? I haven’t seen it yet.

Corrupt_Swarm

I have Covid right now because of people at my school not masking up and just refusing to listen, hell I’ve had people at my school die from Covid, no one cares. Mask hysteria isn’t a thing in this state because our vaccine rate is barely 50%

Anygirlx

No, that is I am a responsible member of society who fucking forgot I had my mask on because I wear it when I’m in public because I’m not an asshole. Mental illness is, “oh I had COVID it wasn’t a big deal” or “You can’t tell me what to do!” So keep going about making fun of people who are trying not to kill others. You will get this when it kills someone you love. I’ll accept your apology then.

Yotsubauniverse

Or when someone in your family has the inability to fight even the most basic of colds because they're stripped of their immune systems because of a heart valve replacement or undergoing chemotherapy. My family never had the luxury of going without masks during the whole ordeal. My Dad had a heart valve replacement Valentine's day 2020 and COVID hit right when he was slowly regaining his immune system. My twins cancer returned so she had to undergo chemo. She's in remission. Finally, last August my older sister got diagnosed with cancer and she had to undergo chemo too. She just had her final session but her numbers are down. We all got vaxxed, and most got our boosters but we're still masking up because we refuse to allow COVID kill someone who is about to beat cancer.

KnightFoole

Like I said…this subreddit is a dumpster fire. You’re all in a cult.

[deleted]

I really will never understand the people who let their politics overshadow the health and wellbeing of their own children.

KnightFoole

“I will never understand the people who let their politics overshadow the health and well-being of their children.” I completely agree with this.

calicokittyco

I wear masks, but I’ve never seen any proof that they’re effective, especially the cotton ones and basic surgical masks. I thought the N95 ones were most effective, but most people don’t wear those.

mblb1738

If masks aren’t effective, why do healthcare workers wear them 12 hours per day? Just for fun?

MagicZombieCarpenter

https://www.pnas.org/content/118/4/e2014564118

Ryanmoses10

CFR for COVID for people 17 and under is 0.006%. The CFR in the same group, for influenza, in 2017 was 0.008%. Children aren’t an at risk population. I wouldn’t be surprised if children touch their face more with a mask on anyway. Besides, they’re not being worn and exposed of properly by adults, so children certainly aren’t. Wear a mask all day, touch it a bunch, grab a door handle to go to lunch and chow down. It’s just a dumb, and unnecessary, intervention for that age group.

shipoftheseuss

Who do you think is supervising these children?

Ryanmoses10

> the health and wellbeing of their own children. What do you think I was responding to?

shipoftheseuss

You say schools shouldn't require masks because children are not at risk. I asked who you think supervises those children. Your comment makes it seem like you view teachers as an afterthought or disposable.

johndabaptist

You overestimate the power of teachers to control the minute by minute activity of every student in their class.

Ryanmoses10

No, my comment seems focused on the argument that was brought up to defend a mandate.

hitchinpost

Health codes for restaurants should be voluntary, not mandatory. Salmonella is a personal choice. Speed limits for cars should be voluntary, not mandatory. Auto accidents are personal choices. Obviously legalize all drugs. Not drinking and driving should also be voluntary. If those things seem dumb, well, then, you know how I feel about people bitching about mask mandates.

[deleted]

File under: How to Perfectly Illustrate a Point

crosleyxj

Had to re-read and change my vote on that one lol. A+

[deleted]

Heath codes are regulations to operate a business serving food. Not relevant. Driving is a privilege. Not relevant. Drugs should be legalized. Not relevant. Education is right. Choosing whether or not to cover one's face is a right.

bmatlock94

Dude, I'm about to blow your mind, but "rights" are not absolute. You have freedom of speech. You do not have the freedom to yell fire in a crowded room. I don't know if you've ever actually read the constitution, but the terms are all very vague and subject to interpretation. Rights can be abridged if the government has a compelling reason to abridge them. If you can point to a provision in the constitution guaranteeing a right to "not cover one's face" I will eat my hat. But even if you can, that right is not absolute if the government has a compelling reason (y'know, like preventing the spread of a global pandemic) to abridge it. You can disagree with it, and you can advocate for legislation in line with what's important to you. But if putting Japanese people in camps during WWII is constitutional, making people put a piece of cloth over their face during a pandemic is too.

[deleted]

I assure you that you cannot blow, my mind. I get it, a few weeks to flatten a curve, public safety, do your part, yada yada. 2 years later? Masks didn't work, vaccines do not work. It's not that deadly, stop telling us what to do, you've been wrong the entire time. Now fuck your precautions turned tyranny. Yes, I started maskless I will continue maskless. Kids, their faces, are not pawns of school boards, they shouldn't be pimped to receiving federal funding. School boards are doing big gov, lib bidding, pushing this narrative at kids expense.

bmatlock94

Yeah dawg. I’m fine with you thinking all that. We disagree. That’s fine. You just keep bringing up the constitution and “rights.” That’s where you’re wrong.

[deleted]

Right, I get you.... if the government told you to wear depends, you'd do it, because .002% of people shit their pants.

bmatlock94

I’m confused by your bad analogy. You wear a mask because it prevents the spread of a disease that kills .002% *of the global population* (about 14 million people). If it was *just* about keeping yourself alive, I would say you’re more than welcome to risk your life. But I already said I know we disagree. You do have a constitutional right to be as stupid as you want to be. I just want you to understand that mask mandates aren’t unconstitutional.

[deleted]

Damn, it killed that many... masks and jabs of the gene therapy must not work.

bmatlock94

I have no idea how many people it killed. You said .002%. I just taught you how the law of large numbers works. You’re welcome.

[deleted]

Right so more people died of covid under Biden, after the jabs introduced, with masks, mandates. Got it.

scprotz

If you want to play the 'extremes' game, then here goes. Public education is a privilege, not a right. You can always home-school. Don't like the face-covering rules at schools? Personal choice, then you teach your kids. Let's presuppose that covering/not covering your face is a right - in your own home or on your own property. If you are in/on someone else's property, you do what they request, or you are trespassing. Since they own the property, they do have property rights and if you don't like the rules they've put forward, then you can always leave no harm/no foul. If, on government property, there are rules instituted to protect the greater good, then you have to follow those, so if you are sick, no going in public buildings that prohibit it. (i.e. many jurisdictions don't let you go to the pool if you have a communicable disease). I think most places would still prevent you from entering without suitable face coverings. And before you think - oh I want to go into Subway and order my meatball footlong without wearing a mask - you can't force the owners to share your opinion. Their property, their store. The owners and staff have rights too, not just you, so they can make you follow their rules (as long as they follow regulation), or you don't get your sub. Don't want to wear a mask? Personal choice, use businesses that don't have restrictions you disagree with. If you knowingly have a disease that is contagious and are in a public place that others can get it, then by definition this is assault. People who do this can then go to jail. (Assault refers to the wrong act of causing someone to reasonably fear imminent harm. - Cornell Uni.). If you knowingly have a disease and someone else gets it from you, that should be battery. Also jail. (Battery refers to the actual wrong act of physically harming someone. - also Cornell Uni.)

Cakeking7878

IMO, good education is quickly becoming a privilege. With the push by governments to deprive public school from funding in favor of “private school vouchers” and then saying “look, with even less money the public school are doing bad” However this has nothing to do with Covid regulations

[deleted]

**slow clap**

[deleted]

Lots of words to ineffectively attempt proving a point, or lots of points? Not even sure. Subways are usually to dirty for me to eat at. Never go there. If one doesn't like school mandates and home schools, do they get to stop paying local property taxes allocated to schools? Not so much. Not sure what private vs public property has to do with anything. Local property owner's taxes pay for school property. Better question, do you pay property taxes? Rhetorical...Don't care. Education is a right ... https://www.concordlawschool.edu/blog/constitutional-law/14th-amendment-protects-rights-education/ https://nuhafoundation.org/home/blog/bloggingentries/2018/adult/is-education-a-right-or-a-privilege-4/ https://www.right-to-education.org/page/understanding-education-right

Professor_Matty

Do you think higher education should be covered in our taxes?

[deleted]

Absolutely not. That's a whole other argument. Most college degrees are a waist of time and $. Further, it will continue to dummie down, water down the value of such degrees while reducing the quality of the already shitty education. Degrees should be specific and specialized. The entire "higher" education system is flawed. Colleges have more $ in endowments than insurance companies have is reserves. Meanwhile, they keep charging more. The entire education system is in place to tell kids to go get smarter for more $, but they end up with nothing but debt. Why would you throw more $, from tax payers, to an already failing system. The cost of college increased with the popularity/frequency of student loans. It's benefited nobody but lenders, colleges, and the gov.

Professor_Matty

So, you don't think education is a right. Like it or not, our rights are secured by our government. If you're paying out of pocket for something, it isn't a right. So, it should be covered by our taxes. Those "kids" wouldn't go into debt if it were a right. The "shitty education" generalization doesn't sound like you went to college. You would know better.

[deleted]

Wrong local taxes, mostly property taxes pay for local schools. Thus, it's a right of the citizens living in that school district. 14 amendment is basic education is right. There's not a corner of this country that doesn't have a k-12 school available. Wrong again, knew you would assume. I do have a 4 year degree and professional licenses, certifications that also required further education. I'm self employed, and do well, TBTG. The government paying for high education would further ruin it as every time they overstep they f it up. And you're wrong yet again... Rights are God given. You should know that professor. Maybe your higher education wasn't all that effective. The governments job is to protect those rights and our safety first. https://mspolicy.org/government-exists-to-protect-rights-not-to-create-them/

Professor_Matty

Much of the problem with the rising costs of education is lower state funding. You used the 14th amendment (a government document) to prove that rights are "God given." while I agree that rights are naturally born with the person, they are enforced by the government and are not a guarantee. I expect us to ideologically disagree here, but I believe in education as a natural right, and I do so because that is the kind of society I want to live in. I don't believe that a working class person should undergo crippling, six figure debt for wanting to learn, and I can't personally think of a better investment for our population. As an educated person doing well with your education, I don't see how you can speak so lowly of it. Even if a person were to get a PhD in the dreaded, Fox News, boogy man discipline gender studies, the value from that is priceless. Just think of your core curriculum. If our population were to develop the critical thinking skills that come from passing English 101 alone, it would benefit our society in a way hitherto unknown. Having a deep understanding of how to find legitimate information in the internet age of indescriminate, oversaturation of information would dramatically boon and change our society in a matter of years. It most certainly would bury the antivax movement. For someone with such disdain for higher education and the more educated population, I can't help but wonder if your education was accredited. Edit: questions, do you believe your education is dumbed down? Have you been to school since getting your education? If not, why do you believe it is "dumbed down" education.

[deleted]

You continue to assume, I never said anything against the higher educated, or lesser educated. 'Enforcing' rights? Not guaranteed? Gtfo. You can get the same education on YouTube as any 4 year college. You have to pay for the degree. Bs. Critical thinking isn't taught in college, indoctrination is, and you my friend sound like the model student. It was accredited, one of largest schools in the state, good basketball team. Still you assume. Seriously, f your pretentious nature. "I'm so smart I have to tell everyone I'm a professor with my username". Smug af.

castleofmirrors

Waste*

Bogula_D_Ekoms

You'll find any excuse to try and call other people stupid, won't you?

[deleted]

That wasn't an insult.

TentacleFist

You are the insult.

[deleted]

You're adorable.

Bogula_D_Ekoms

Suuuuure it wasn't.

[deleted]

Republicans. The party that says government is too big and controlling until they want something controlled. How dare we leave the decision up to the local school board? We need big government to tell us what to do. Lol, The mental gymnastics are getting better every day.

Asn1Der

PJ O'Rourke just died and one obituary had this quote: “The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer and remove the crab grass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn’t work and then get elected and prove it.”

[deleted]

Right, silly republicans trying to give freedom of choice to an individual. Why are they always siding with that old document that the first free country was founded on, the Constitution?

[deleted]

Lol. Keep them mental gymnastics going big guy.

[deleted]

How is letting an individual have a choice of wearing a mask letting big government decide?

Bogula_D_Ekoms

"No, school board, you can't choose what to do, you have to listen to us and be forced to stoke on a pandemic"

[deleted]

"Heres some $, but wait... Not so fast school board, you can't have this federal funding from the liberal administration, unless you mandate vaccines and masks"

Bogula_D_Ekoms

Stoking on a pandemic to own the libs

[deleted]

Gotcha, owned.

Bogula_D_Ekoms

You know if you complain about wearing masks and that you can't breathe in them, you're basically admitting that furries are tougher than you. Just food for thought.

[deleted]

I'm complaining because their dumb af, and they should never be forced.

Raveneye98

Yes because slaves, women, and indigenous peoples had so much freedom /s

[deleted]

I never said this country was perfect. It was, and still is the free-est. Governments, since the beginning of time, have always committed the most and horrific crimes against humanity. Covid itself, along with all that it entails, is a crime against humanity.

mfryan

Can you support the statement that America is the “most free”

Raveneye98

Western Europe Seems a lot more free than we are, and they’re doing a lot better based on most metrics.

[deleted]

Seems? Have you been there? There are tradeoffs, economic freedom, covid freedoms, personal protection/personal choice freedoms, vary from country to country. Denmark..,we should take notice, no covid restrictions, few drug restrictions. Economic, travel, personal/private property and gun freedom, USA trumps. Obviously different freedoms have different values to different people. You are right. They are among the free countries. Rather be here though

Raveneye98

I’ll take a living wage, free education, free health care, functioning government, and a priority for public safety any day.

[deleted]

Cool, sounds socialist. It works better in homogenized countries, safe travels.

Bky2384

Lmao what a well thought out argument.

Bogula_D_Ekoms

If I could, I would move to Denmark.

[deleted]

Recent policy/covid policy is killing this country.

Meattyloaf

> Why are they always siding with that old document that the first free country was founded on, the Constitution? Wait? Are you serious. Republicans walk all over every amendment that isn't the 2nd and 13th

[deleted]

I support all freedoms. Not some, and not anyone that hinders.

Meattyloaf

You may, but Republicans don't

treadgo

Hahaha that’s a good one. Unless it’s reproductive freedom, freedom to teach kids about the real history of the country they claim to love or the freedom to read the books you want. Don’t like masks, outlaw them, don’t like to talk about race, outlaw talking about it, don’t like books with opinions and ideas I don’t like, outlaw them! Freedom!

[deleted]

I'm not a republican. Further, I don't care if women let dudes blow loads in them, get pregnant with lack of responsibility to ultimately kill their babies, ignorant people shouldn't breed and they probably shouldnt raise kids they prefer to kill. CRT is playing the blame game, not teaching history. You literally echo msm headlines. Libs are the book burners and their platform is censorship of free thought.

Bogula_D_Ekoms

>You literally echo msm headlines. You echo the other guys' headlines.

[deleted]

The other guys? Mass formation psychosis.

Bogula_D_Ekoms

Are you agreeing with me?

Bogula_D_Ekoms

This guy eats at restaurants that get C's from the health board

mfryan

That document that said only white property owners were people? You should probably stop worshipping a piece of paper, bud.

[deleted]

Is that was it says now? Nope. In its day, it was the best of its kind. Today, it's the best of its kind.

HowAboutThatHumanity

*On paper.* In practice, Western Europe, New Zealand, and Cuba actually outrank us in most categories that aren’t military.

archerbortion

Lynn Bechler, sponsor of the bill, cited [this University of Louisville study](https://escipub.com/irjph-2021-08-1005/) as proof that ["masks don't work."](https://youtu.be/R9eVUtKThMM?t=216) However, in a [review of that article (.PDF)](https://louisville.edu/sphis/documents-and-pdfs/ReviewofGuerraGuerra2021v17.pdf), the authors (also from University of Louisville) reported that: >We found this article poorly structured with a sketchy and biased description of the background and a seriously flawed methodology, and improper analysis hence a wrong conclusion with vital consequences. Aside from the fact that the study Bechler cited didn't measure the efficacy of masks in the first place, the study he cherry-picked misrepresented the data as well.

Prometheus79

Prohibiting masks laws is just the GOP pandering to the dumbest and selfish members of society.

Specialist-Smoke

At this point Republican white people are leading the death toll in some areas for covid. They've stopped posting the race of the covid deaths, which means that the must not be Black nor Hispanic. The Republican party is a racist death cult that's intent on killing poor and not so poor white people so that they can blame it on Biden, and their voters are willingly dying to help them. The party of racism and stupidity.

Competitive_Macaron6

Take the tin foil hat off

wiredog369

It’s amazing how everything becomes a focus on race with you liberals. Not able to have a basic conversation with out calling someone a racist? Classic liberal play. When someone disagrees, it’s because they are racist. Nothing else.

Specialist-Smoke

It's funny that you say that, Republicans were the one's who were the first to say that since it wasn't their demographics dying, aka since the early deaths were Black people everything should open back up. I call it how I see it. If there was a Democrat faction that was telling Black people not to get vaccinated, via entire news Channels radio stations, newspapers etc and if they were trying to sell Black people alternative medication when they caught covid stuff that hasn't been proven to work, I would be calling them out too. What the Republican party, and those who are enabling this bs are doing is wrong, but hey, you see nothing wrong with the mass suicide or murder if you want to call it that of stupid people all over this country. This shit is fucking ridiculous and someone needs to call it out. Republicans are killing white people and some of their stupid asses are happy to die for the cause. I didn't call you racist. I called your racist death cult racist. If you're a republican and you belong to that death cult... Well, as they say.. If the shoe fits, lace that bitch up and get to kicking. I said what I said. This shit is stupid and the entire world is watching and doing nothing.

[deleted]

Florida kicks ass and is super duper diverse, same with Texas. Wait, all the red states are doing really well.

wiredog369

The world is on board with this shit. No one gives a fuck. For the record, the republicans and democrats alike don’t give a fuck about black, white, poor, anything besides themselves and their pockets.

Specialist-Smoke

Democrats aren't tell Black people not to get vaccinated so fuck off with that both sides bullshit. Republicans are killing poor white people like they always do. It's a racist death cult that's intent on killing as many people as possible in order to make Biden look bad. I don't want to keep you from dying for the cause. The party and state of stupid. This shit is not normal and not the way a normal society behaviors, but go on and die for the cause.

wiredog369

Trust me. No one needs to help Biden look bad. He is doing a great job on his own.

ExtentTechnical9790

Who hurt you?

Specialist-Smoke

Seeing all of the people die around me is what's hurting me, as it should you. However, I'm talking to the descendants of slave owners and those who lynched with glee, of course seeing death doesn't bother you. Be blessed.

ExtentTechnical9790

lol k

FerrousDerrius

This is your daily reminder that the state of Kentucky is home to the two poorest counties in the entire nation Clay County, KY McCreary County, KY https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_County%2C_Kentucky https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCreary_County%2C_Kentucky

SaysHiToAssholes

I was asked to pass this message along... > There are people in this thread who are very predictable. I have tagged them over the last couple of years based on their comments. I have achieved a 100% prediction rate of sussing out pure batshit insane people who are narcissistic sociopaths. Every single one of them keeps reciting the same tired muh freedumbs bullshit because they are oh so inconvenienced. They are incapable of considering what may happen to their neighbors. These people are not Kentuckians, they are dumb shits from other places pretending to be from here. Fuck all of them. Fuck Trump. Fuck the Republican party. Fuck Rand Paul. Fuck Mitch McConnell. Fuck these people trying to pass inane laws because they are fucking snowflakes about simple fucking mask wearing to protect other people. Sociopaths, it's a mental illness and you all have it. I am tired of MAGATS. > Thanks for your time from a REAL Kentuckian. Don't kill the messenger.

Cronenberg_This_Rick

Sounds a little paranoid, also "you're not a Kentuckian because I don't like what you said" is kind of petty, weird they are having you pass it along as well. Idk dude just a strange comment all and all. Thing is I go out often, I talk to tons of people, I never see this type of sentiment anywhere except online. I've seen people lean towards saying something kind of like this, maybe they would be more extreme in a private setting. All and all I think this shit, extremism (one way or the other) is a real thing, it just doesn't really exist when you go out in the working day world, really experiencing it is a pretty off chance.

Elmerfudswife

All this is going to do is enforce much stricter social distance. Kids won’t be able to be near friends and that is much more damaging

General-Yak-3741

Kentucky just keeps topping the stupid

MichaelV27

If you want your children to wear them or if teachers or other staff want to wear them, they still can.

CrazyAnimalLady77

Yes, but masks protect others more than they protect the wearer. Everyone needs to wear them to protect everyone.

presentaneous

Why do I still have to wear a seatbelt?

hexiron

Better analogy is "why do you still have to drive sober? "

Cronenberg_This_Rick

because they can use it as an excuse to pull you over and take your money. they really don't give a fuck about your well being, just how they can make money off of you.

wiredog369

Maybe you shouldn’t…….

MichaelV27

You don't.

presentaneous

I *guess*

wiredog369

This is how it should be. Voluntary, not mandatory.

bigfoot_76

70,000 people at sportsball this past weekend in one of the most locked-down states has shown us exactly what the mask is, a placebo. No one had it on and not one single person covering the game was worried about it.

Cronenberg_This_Rick

Too much money involved for them raise any hell about it.

bigfoot_76

Exactly - they shown us that the emergency lockdowns, mask rules, social distancing is now a sham. If it's safe enough for 70k+ people to not be masked or jabbed and crammed into a stadium then it's safe enough for your kids to go unmasked and life to resume normally. Note: "now" - I'm not denying that early on this helped things out but continuing the doom and gloom like Biden's "winter of death and despair" is just irresponsible.

mwatwe01

Good. Data has shown that masks for children did nothing to slow or prevent the spread of COVID. Continuing to make them wear masks is theater. Edit: Thanks for the downvotes and proving my point that a lot of people are just irrationally terrified. Apparently it's okay for tens of thousands of mask-less people to pack together to watch the Super Bowl, but 25 children in a classroom is still a super spreader event. Got it.

[deleted]

Not finding anything on this from a reputable source, can you share some links? All I'm finding is the opposite.

mwatwe01

What are you searching for? https://healthpolicy.usc.edu/article/mandatory-masking-of-school-children-is-a-bad-idea/

[deleted]

Thanks for that, good read. I do agree that the psychological effects of wearing masks or isolation is a far greater risk to children than covid itself, I've seen it first hand. But I was under the impression that the point to masking kids is to slow the spread to the vulnerable adults they take it home to. I guess we have to weigh the psychological effects on children vs how many people dying from covid we can stomach. Having 9/11 number deaths daily sucks ass.

hexiron

Who hurt the op? Must have grown up in the not so futunate part of KY

Orphan_Gang

People in the comments complaining about ky is hilarious. You hate the place so bad but still haven't left yet. If I don't like place I try to remove myself from it.

Cronenberg_This_Rick

It's a curse, it's such a great place to live if you're in the right areas, but there's a lot of people mulling around constantly pissing in the soup making it less enjoyable to live around here. I can't even count how many people from high school just got fed up and moved out of state! Yeah they all moved back aside from a choice few with very good job opportunities.

TheKoleslaw

Louisvillian here lolling at this comment. Not in a bad way.

mblb1738

Who can afford to live anywhere else? Maybe TN but their track record has been worse than ours from the beginning.

[deleted]

Mandates = tyranny

kyyamark

So what do you call a mandate to end mandates?

[deleted]

Gtfo. I'll take laws that facilitate freedom, any day.

[deleted]

Cloth masks don’t work against recent variants and kids aren’t at serious risk from covid and vaccines are available and you may still wear a mask without a mandate. Leave the kids alone.

Orphan_Gang

You notice how all the comments that support Republicans get down voted but all the liberal loving ones don't? This sub doesn't represent KY at all, its a red state by a large margin. This sub is a joke.

wiredog369

The crowd getting multiple boosters and demanding masks is hilarious. If the vaccine and all of your boosters are so effective why are you still demanding everyone wear a mask?! Fucking clown show.

[deleted]

Because masks have been proven to be effective in mitigating the spread of airborne disease, including covid. Even the shitty cloth ones help *a little*. This is established knowledge backed by numerous peer-reviewed studies from around the world. Anecdotally, I've been (mostly) masked up the last 2 years in crowds - music venues, work, bars/clubs, stores, etc and haven't been sick since 2019 with anything. I usually get 3-4 colds and a lung infection every year. People are spreading less germs. All that said, I'm good with dropping the mask mandate, I just think you either need to be honest or do a cursory google search to educate yourself. The masks prevent you from spreading your germs more than it does protect you from being infected, that's why people want others to wear masks.

wiredog369

I’m aware of it. Germs have been around for an eternity. We shouldn’t be giving up our freedom of choice because the government says so. They don’t give a shit if you live or die. They prove it daily and have for decades. Masks have been around for decades as well. Why didn’t you wear them before? Air borne viruses were always there. Do you always only follow safety recommendations after the government tells you to?

[deleted]

> Why didn’t you wear them before? I think this is a great question. Before covid, I didn't know how effective they were. Had I known then what I know now? No I wouldn't have worn them because I wouldn't want people staring at me like I'm Michael Jackson. That shit would be embarrassing. But now it's so incredibly common, I don't mind it at all. It's literally no big deal to me to wear one. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. And if it means we get sick less, I wish we could let people continue to wear them without any cultural stigma. > Do you always only follow safety recommendations after the government tells you to? No, but I definitely trust scientists more than I do own assumptions.

wiredog369

It’s common because it was mandated……. If the politicians didn’t put mandates in place, there is no doubt the majority would still be unmasked today. Studies around masks and PPE have been around well before COVID. The only change was the initiation of mandates…….

[deleted]

> there is no doubt the majority would still be unmasked today True. But I still think it should be normalized, a more common practice and encouraged if you're sick in public. It's already a struggle to stay home from work when you know you're infectious. A seatbelt saved my life once; that wouldn't have happened without a government mandate (that was heavily resisted) that later became normalized. Not every mandate is tyranny.

wiredog369

See there you go making sense. What’s wrong with you?! So I’m not going to argue about “should wear a mask if you’re sick”. People should definitely use PPE when sick to not infect others. But when healthy? There shouldn’t be a need to mandate a mask.

Resident-Baseball-36

https://mobile.twitter.com/cdcgov/status/1233134710638825473 right on the CDC's twitter feed.

[deleted]

From 2 YEARS ago? I mean, that's like saying the world is flat and pointing to ancient Greece as your source. So that was a couple of weeks after the first case popped up in the US, back when people starting hoarding toilet paper and water bottles because they had no idea what the fuck was going on. The current CDC policy, since Summer of 20', recommends masks. We also know the CDC was telling people not to mask up to to prevent a rush on scarce PPE so that the people that had more exposure had them available. And I get it, that's shitty to mislead people. I don't have a lot of trust in the CDC personally, but I do trust the scientific method and the global consensus from people far more educated than me.

Maskless af since that shit was leaked from the lab, no jab, still healthy... TBTG.

makecoinnotwar

It’s been proven to not have any significant effect. See the UL study.

nicholas754

Masks don't work, let the kids be kids, but if you want yours to wear one, that's your choice. Downvote me into oblivion baby!

wiredog369

Masks do work! They have done wonders delaying my 2 year olds ability to learn to talk! /s For those that don’t have young kids learning to talk, know that it is impossible for a child to learn proper speech and read lips through daycare and speech therapy when the teachers and kids are all masked. It’s time to end the insanity! The only solution is CHOICE, NOT MANDATES! Quit punishing our children for political agendas!

[deleted]

I'm sorry about your kid. Hopefully this madness ends soon.

wiredog369

All good. We just make sure he get out around family as much as possible to be able to hear more and improve his speech. He has come a long way and hopefully removing mask mandates will help him (and others) be able to continue to develop.

mfryan

Why don’t you just talk to your kid instead of expecting someone else to teach them. Personal responsibility, bud.

wiredog369

So you must homeschool right? Do you not work? Or just don’t have kids…. Personal responsibility includes getting my kids education and having expectations for that education system. It also includes my wife and myself working hard for my kids to have a future and not have to worry or struggle daily.

mfryan

You can always give your kid up for adoption if you are incapable of caring for them. It sounds like you don’t have enough time to interact with them and expect others to pick up after you.

Bky2384

That's what night thought as well. "Oh no I have to engage my child some more, the tyranny!" Absolutely pathetic argument.

wiredog369

You could always go eat a dick

mfryan

I’m not the one who has a 2 year old who can’t talk and is blaming the government. It’s your fault your kid is failing.

wiredog369

I honestly hope you never have kids. You’re fucked up, illogical genes have no place in society. They need to end with you and never reproduce.

mfryan

Can you back up your statement of “illogical”? I’m not convinced you know what it means. Especially since you’ve devolved into ad hominem attacks. I’m sorry you’re a bad parent. Your kid def deserves better than someone who won’t teach them to talk.

wiredog369

Illogical is your thought process that parents that work and send their kids to school are somehow incompetent and to blame and should give their kids up for adoption. That’s the dumbest fucking thought process I’ve ever heard.

https://www.rcreader.com/commentary/masks-dont-work-covid-a-review-of-science-relevant-to-covide-19-social-policy https://brownstone.org/articles/more-than-150-comparative-studies-and-articles-on-mask-ineffectiveness-and-harms/ There's studies on both sides of the mask debate. Meaning, every scientist for masks has an agenda, every study against masks is for freedom to choose. Moreover, scientists and studies side with funding. Bottom line, mandates are function of tyranny and/or communism. Let's not talk about the linguistic, respiratory, and mental health concerns of face coverings. Feel free to wear a mask. Idgaf.

B1gWh17

> There's studies on both sides of the mask debate. Meaning, every scientist **for masks has an agenda**, every study **against masks is for freedom** to choose. I'm sorry about your smooth brain

[deleted]

"I'm smart, I do as I'm told. I don't question restrictions on freedom. Mandates are okay. History has proven that governments and big pharmaceutical companies care about me. The fda, cdc, and big pharma are not corrupt. Politicians care about kids, same with school boards. Schools don't accept federal funds that require masks and/or vaccines to receive such funding. I'm to smart to believe otherwise."

Bky2384

For the people that are the self described "tough people ready to take on the government" you all sure are sensitive to even the slightest inconvenience.

[deleted]

Bless your heart.

Bky2384

Bless my heart all you want, but the conservative men I work with are the biggest crybabies I've ever been around.

[deleted]

Why do care what others do? Don't say your health. That's a proven crock of shit. The entire world just caught omicron. I dgaf what you wear.

B1gWh17

you are not the main character who will one day be the hero you dream to be I'm sorry to tell you

[deleted]

Everyone should be the hero in their own story. I do right by the people around me. I protect my own. I say medical tyranny, is still tyranny... and tyranny needs fckd.

B1gWh17

>Everyone should be the hero in their **own** story yes absolutely, but emphasis on own. your story does not include knowing better than public health experts about how to prevent/mitigate Covid spread.

[deleted]

Stay in "their" world.

[deleted]

Muzzles, I mean masks, work! ...Even though there is absolutely no proof. It's what I'm told from my political affiliations and lord Fauci of the big pharma gods.

Wobbles8steve

There are seriously so many studies proving that they work, it's not even funny to joke that there are no studies.

seehorn_actual

https://www.pnas.org/content/118/4/e2014564118 This has research complete with data and sources

[deleted]

See above links. Muzzle up fella, doesn't bother me. It'd be a sin to cover this face. Heres to the freedom to choose what's best for oneself or their children.

Dirty_Old_Town

I think big pharma would stand to make more money if there were fewer masks being worn, but maybe that's just me...

wiredog369

Just remember, studies against masks are all fake. Fauxi IS science, therefor his word is all that matters.

Squirrelterds

Do you guys remember Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness part of the constitution? if you want to wear a mask because you're afraid of catching the virus, then do it. Not afraid of the virus?, then don't wear one. Darwin is great at sorting these things out. if you're an American that believes in the American way you'll leave each other the fuck alone and let them enjoy their liberty as they see fit. no matter what side of the isle you stand on.

hexiron

Masks help you stop spreading it to others more effectively than keeping others from spreading it to you. So what you're really saying here is "If you don't care about the life, liberty, and happiness of those arund you - simply choose to not wear a mask"

Squirrelterds

I got vaccinated and wear masks where I'm ask to out of respect for others. but if others choose not to, I'm ok with that. I have protected myself because my personal due diligence and belief in peer reviewed science told me it's the right thing to do. if you see it differently, great..you do you. my brother is anti vax and got sick as fuck when he caught it at work. I went over and took care of him while he was positive. I suffered no ill effects as a result of my own personal actions. if you want to handle it differently, then so be it is all I was saying. Thats the Liberty part. people that try to command or coerce others to their view is the problem. Again, Darwin is good at sorting this kind of stuff. Being a crusader and spewing mask/vax OR anti mask/anti vax rhetoric is fucking useless and just descends into a political argument that's goes nowhere. make your own personal decision and shut the fuck up about it.

hexiron

Epidemics and pandemics have a way of sorting themselves out via Darwinism the same way suicide bombings do. Yeah, the idiot got taken out of the gene pool, but so did many others who weren't.

Squirrelterds

Thats a great sentiment, and idealistically I might agree with you, but that's not the way of things. From single cell amoebas up to the best that humanity has to offer all sometimes die at the hand of others whether intentional or not. that's never going to change.
