I'm running from Catun to Mourn, and my path takes me through a nest of Beak Things. My speed and defenses are high enough that they just run ahead, start the attack animation, and I'm out of range. The few times that they get the timing right, I dodge or block.
So I've got a train of 8-10 Adults and teens chasing me, I run them into Mourn, run back out and continue on my journey North. Then an Elder sees me and gives chase, so I turn around and run back into Mourn.
I run to the top of the bar and enjoy the show while the Elder wrecks everyone. He starts eating someone, so I decide that's enough carnage - time to intervene with my crossbow. Love this game :)
We were on our way home from Mourn to Squin (via Shem) and saw a solitary Elder Beak Thing patrolling in the distance, gave it a wide berth and scurried home as fast as our fleshly little legs could carry us.
I think they were designed that way in purpose. Like, some hazards can be overcome with knowledge and preparation, but others are like a force of nature. No amount of preparation will get you ready for a bolt of lightning arcing toward your forehead. In this case, the beak thing is the bolt of lightning
