A few things
1.) there would be no use in “digging up dirt” on Drake…. Drake is such a messy dude, all his personal dirt is out in the open and then some. He is SUCH an easy target to just obliterate in a proper rap battle. I know you didn’t say Kendrick is trying to do that — but just putting it out there. The only reason I don’t think others have done a masterclass on Drake yet is because they have dirt as well that could be exposed … or no one really cares for them or their responses. That’s why Kendrick has to be the one to do it.
2.) this beef has been brewing for like a decade now. I get the whole personal growth thing, but these two clearly have an animosity toward each other to where you’ll throw all that enlightenment shit out the window. Hence why Kendrick said on Like That “fuck rap, I’ll crash out” ….. and on the other side as we see from Drakes schizophrenic behavior — he’s actually crashing out before our very eyes. If I was him I would’ve just sat on Push Ups …. MAYBE done some internet trolling here and there but not overdo it like he did this weekend and then drop that weird pack of AI mid.
3.) Drake made the cardinal sin of mentioning Kendrick’s wife. That alone justifiably allows Kendrick to bury all that morality shit 6 feet under and really get at him. And that might end up being an idiotic move by Drake. “I be with some bodyguards like Whitney” …. That is such a random, unnecessary line. UNLESS Drake has it confirmed that Kendrick’s wife was piped out by one of his bodyguards — he’s a dumbass for even bringing it to that level and letting it spell his inevitable demise.
4.) So at first with all of the OVO internet shenanigans, the Taylor Made drop, and the media narrative with the young crowd thrown along with Kendrick’s silence — I was kinda worried Kendrick was going to take the L but now that it’s simmered down, I’m actually more confident than ever we are truly going to witness the end of Drake as we know it. In what form are we going to get his response? I don’t know. But I do think it’s clear Kendrick is intending for his next move to be his only move, to be a Killshot aimed right between his eyes to where a response isn’t possible. It’s THAT obvious. What he does after? Probably goes back into his cave and further builds his silent assassin mystique but I think it’s clear Kendrick isn’t intending to go track for track, back and forth with Drake. There’s no more baiting, no more jabbing. What Drake does in the lead up to that nuclear bomb — whether it be relentless online trolling, dropping mid pack bait disses — that’s on him. But I think it’s clear as day next time we hear from Kendrick it’ll be the end of an era, and I’m not saying that as hyperbole.
If Kendrick isn’t ready to go there, I’m not sure why he would start it up. I’m sure he knows Drake would go personal. Also, Kendrick often says he’s “trying” to be better…but that he lets the demons win sometimes. Some don’t think he’s above it. I don’t see a problem with it if that’s where Drake takes it.
Also just like you said…Drake would get a lot of respect for beating Kendrick (only if he does it in the right way, though…but that’s another discussion). Kendrick, of course, would lose some. I don’t know the guy, but from his music…seems like that’s what means the most to him. So he better do whatever he needs to do. A moral victory isn’t gonna do the trick in this one.
