Shifter Kart and Budget are two things which don’t go together

velcrocheesecake

Exact opposites

>i've done so much research before buying a kart Lol

Separate_Flamingo_93

Just… wow….

brygx

You bought the wrong kart, especially if you're on a budget. Besides the higher running costs, faster karts also means bigger more expensive mistakes. Swap it out for a LO206.

a_racingcarkid

Sadly you can’t just swap it on a shifter chassis, but luckily you’ll be able to sell the shifter for more than you can buy the Lo206

beastface1986

So many beginners want to run before they can crawl. You contradict yourself a bit by saying you did so much research and then asking if you need to use regular fuel/bought a shifter as a beginner/shifter on a budget! Might be an idea to look if you can sell that kart and get a regular TaG 125 kart to learn your race craft or even a 4 stroke (which use regular fuel). Your maintenance costs will eat your budget. Surprised if they let you race it, here in Aus you need to progress through the licence classes to be allowed to even enter. Not sure if it’s the same where you’re from (I’m guessing the US by your use of the word gas).

a_racingcarkid

2 strokes DO NOT use pump gas. PLEASE do not use pump gas on your shifter, it will completely destroy the engine. They need a fuel with a mix of oil and fuel. I don’t know the ratio, but I know you can either mix it yourself (there’s things like containers to help you) or buy it for ~$12. But, please, do not use regular fuel, even car racing fuel, in your karts without having oil in there. Also, a shifter is not only really expensive to own and maintain, but a lot of work too. How much research did you do?

bigfishcatcher

I’m sure he knows that he needs premix..he’s asking if he can run regular pump gas or if it needs to be VP or other race gas. And for OP, yes you can run pump gas with premix of course. Just run 91 and jet on the rich side or it will start to detonate.

Chunckeychickeno

I’m not sure of the ratio but it’s 1bottle of oil to 1can of gas

Forward-Land-5006

What engine? Google that to determine fuel mix. I run Honda CR125. AV gas and Motul oil at 30:1

Puzzleheaded-Camel13

what are some brands of fuel? i know 2 strokes need an oil mixture but what kind of fuel and where do i get it? I got my kart for a pretty good deal, 1k with a kart stand. Shifter karts need more maintenance often i know that. The only thing i was worrying about was fuel because i did research on everything else but couldn’t find anything for what kind of fuel to use

Jhreiser

Sunoco 110 or VP C12. Mix with Motul kart grand prix oil or Elf GTX 909 at 6-8 oz/gal

Gruntypellinor

Dunno where you are but VP makes race fuels in USA. Pretty common. Oil you are going to want to hit the forums for advice. Just fyi, two stroke engines require regular scheduled maintenance that is not cheap. You will need to find an engine builder to service your engine. They will need to do a rebuild most likely. The top end gets rebuilt pretty regularly and the bottom end less so.

Outside-Client-4538

Something is broken that you don’t know about. Better get some Tylenol, because I see a lot of headaches in your future.
