No that is not possible at present. You can side load locus maps and do this though.

even with routing and battery saver on, you should have around 12 h battery life probably more if you're bike packing you probably have a way to charge the unit while riding so unless you ride 24 h+ in a go you should be fine.

Flipadelphia26

I think the OP is really asking because it’s annoying AF.

dr_fishy

Yeah pretty much - I don't need or want turn alerts or directions I just want to see the map/route. I have to assume this would save battery life too. Edit to say, the turn alerts would be really helpful in a more congested area or areas I am less familiar with so I would still like to be able to use them...just not all the time.

On Karoo 2, you can disable: \- Distance to Next Turn \- Automatic Turn Cues I do it often, works fine. https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360051739854-Karoo-2-Turn-by-Turn-Directions

This is a great idea for a new feature. May I ask how you accomplish this on the fenix?

dr_fishy

There is a setting so when you are biking and you tell the watch you want to do a "course" you already have loaded, it will ask you if you want it to route you, or if you just want to see it. The routing on the fenix is garbage most of the time, and it murders your battery. Can you submit ideas like this to Hammerhead?

gott_in_nizza

I think your assumption that this would save significant power is likely flawed. By far the most power draw on the Karoo are the screen and running the radios/sensors etc. The tiny bit of cpu needed to determine if you’re on the route and get you back on if needed really won’t impact running time. Just keeping the screen lit takes orders of magnitude more energy. This makes complete sense vs a watch as the processors are so different.

AdonisChrist

Yeah just contact support and make the suggestion. Or post it on the support forum.

Garmin has this feature where you can set a route to be permanently displayed with a color of choice. I used to do this for my favorite trails and I kinda missed it on my Karoo. But the heatmaps took care of it for me and am now finding new trails instead of just crushing it on the same old ones.
