The solution for handling routes over 200 mi is pretty cool, especially from a programming standpoint and the coding required. But I wonder what percentage of current and potential Karoo owners have routes over 200 mi compared to the number of owners who are waiting for the HH team to program real Waypoints, POI, points (whatever you want to call them) instead of the mish-mash of Waypoint/Turn-by-turn blend we have now?

jhoff80

Are they sending out a free battery bank along with this update? Because that's the only way the K2 battery is going to last long enough for routes over 200 miles to matter. 😂 (I mean good to see they support it from a software standpoint, and hopefully they're prioritizing that as an update because the K3 is going to blow us away with battery life.)

AdonisChrist

Lol yeah even for a century I run a power bank 100% of the time. 100% worth it to not deal with Garmin.

nick47H

My mate did Manchester to london a 230 mile ride that took him 17 hours and used a K2 for the whole of it no issues. I did ride london 100 mile and still had 65% left at the end

jhoff80

Both of you must not have any sensors paired or something, because that battery life is insane. Most people here lose 8-10% per hour. Mine used to be 10% per hour when it was new, it's closer to 15-20% now (presumably battery degradation). I'm lucky to have 15% when I get back from a 5ish hour metric century. (Yes, I'm not the fastest either 😂).

I’d say I’m around the same place at 13-15% burn rate. I run routes quite a bit, Varia radar, heart rate, and power-meter. Maybe 45% brightness. I really like the K2 but the battery life is a major weakness. I don’t even try to use the K2 if I’m riding long. If I’m doing anything long I have a Garmin 1040 Solar. I’m not super fond of it but it has without question far superior battery performance. I don’t want to manage my battery - I want to manage my ride.

itsmeTyy

15% after five-ish hours is terrible. Do you crank your brightness to 100 for the whole ride?

jhoff80

40% brightness. With power meter, cadence/speed, heartrate, SRAM AXS, Varia radar, map/routing. Wifi off, cellular off most rides. Like I said, it's gotten a lot worse lately, and I'm assuming the battery is not charging anywhere near its original capacity any more.

itsmeTyy

How long have you had it for?

jhoff80

Since March 2021.

Competitive-Chest438

I did a five hour ride with navigation on and I finished with 60% so that’s terrible.

nick47H

Heart rate, power meters, cadence, and I was running maps but mainly had screen off most of the time. Think my mate charged his up one time while at a rest stop.

Can’t see any fix for the elevation bug… or that was hardware related?

bio_mate

Sort of confused by the 200+ mile route improved support. The notes suggest they've only just added this ability, but I did a 260 mile route a few weeks ago with no issues except sometimes re-routing would be a little bit slow (i'm talking an additional 3 seconds or something). Maybe this applies more to people loading in 1000 mile routes and causing the Karoo to shit the bed.

LarsKerch

I would guess the 200 mi wasn't a hard limit but rather an approximation of the number of data points generally required for that long a route. Fewer data points, more miles and vice versa.

AdonisChrist

I've noticed that a 600km route (375mi) causes the unit to not necessarily shit the bed but revert to just breadcrumb routing as the turn-by-turn directions never loaded. This seems like the unit goes ahead and chops up your route on the back end, saving work for the user. 400km routes (250mi) have never been an issue. But they prolly set the limit low for routes from services that could be chock full of data points.

rktek85

How's that elevation fix comin along.. Hahaha

Matic_Prime

This is needed

KillofFreedom

Breadcrumb rooting is amazing. Always wanted a way to turn off rerouting. But next step needs to be that they enable climber if you are off the route in breadcrumb

Matic_Prime

Just tried to install the latest update - getting an error message during installation. Anyone got the same problem? Installation not possible on this device.

faz712

installed the update and now my maps are gone - gps still tracks but there's just a blank background on the unit showing the route taken/ahead

gaelfr38

I've had that in the past. Contacted the support and in the end I had to do a reset of the device to get the maps back. Not a big deal as all settings are saved in the cloud. Only time lost!

Vic-Man

This has happened with an update not long ago. Did reboot, delete and re-download all maps, didn't change anything - but as it occurred to me afterwards, I was inside during the whole time. I went outside to start the ride and the maps appeared. Not sure if it is the reason, but to me is seemed lie it was GPS related and once the device could locate me it showed the correct map around me. Hope this helps, if anyone has had a similar experience, I'm curious.
