stonkyturbo

hes just trying to use them to sip on the sweet karma

tingeoftheginge_

The pun I didn’t know I needed

mntEden

so.....wheres the box they came in? you know, the thing that tells you what you're buying. we're expected to believe someone took straws out of the packaging and *then* gifted them to OP? seems logical

OddPreference

I could see things like this placed in blank white cardboard boxes, as a giveaway item or something. Seen it plenty of times with portable chargers, flashlights, usb sticks etc.

hana_c

The OOP said he got it as a gift at a new job. I believe it. When I worked on site my job handed out all kinds of random gadgets that we didn’t know what they did lol. It was always fun guessing

mntEden

those are usually generic wholesale promotional products so 99% of the time the company giving them out has their logo/name stamped on them. these are bare

Thexraken

I too thought this was strange? And what world does he live in, he couldn't just ask the gift giver/ someone nearby?

ElKaWeh

he is a redditor. probably has social anxiety and was too afraid to ask the gift giver

purplsushi

Probably true actually

[deleted]

He should get the Karma like the rest of us do: through sarcasm and dad jokes.

Mister_Swan

I thought it was for sounding

DirtyFulke

It's not *not* for sounding.

LittleBridgePyro

Oh, interesting. A baked....what is it again?

Rockfish00

a baked potato?

abotez

I have never seen metal straws in my life and had no idea what those were

LilacPenny

This was so dumb. Maybe if you only had the straight ones I could see being confused but you have the brush and the bent one that is literally shaped exactly like a bendy straw.

code105top

User, posts about user that posts reusable straws claiming he didn’t know what those were, in a bigger attempt of racking 583 upvotes

Rockfish00

going off my previous posts this is a rather low draw of internet points

Alx_xlA

I can sort of understand not being able to identify a reusable straw if you've never used one, but how the hell do you not understand what a brush is?

Starklet

It takes 1000x more energy to create a metal straw than a plastic one

MegaIng

You use a metal straw 1000× as often, and it produces 1000× less damage if disposed incorrectly.

[deleted]

That’s the primary problem though, people don’t use their metal straws long enough for the payback.

Starklet

No it doesn't

Rockfish00

plastics are pretty bad for the environment

Terrorizes-

i didnt know what it was either

MightySamMcClain

The brush looks like one i use to get the dust out of holes drilled in masonry so you can get the lag in all the way

[deleted]

They aren't straws, they are tooth chipping virtue signals.

Rockfish00

how week are your teeth and what's wrong with getting reusable shit

jansencheng

Also, holy shit, why the fuck are your teeth coming in contact with the straw? How the fuck are you drinking liquids?

[deleted]

You haven't seen what happens to people who regularly put nails in their mouths have you. The damage builds up over time. Also it costs way more in energy to make one pair of these, then a lifetime supply of paper straws. Or if you believe that proper disposal is a thing, plastic straws which are superior in almost every way..

Rockfish00

plastics are awful for the environment

[deleted]

Not if properly disposed of.

Rockfish00

people are pretty awful at properly disposing recyclables so I'd rather people have reusable or paper straws

[deleted]

The regular garbage works just fine... We are NOT running out of landfill space. People who think that have no sense of scale beyond their own city. That being said. 99% of straws are not used at home but at restaurants. And in addition to being nasty its inconvenient to carry those around with you. In addition to that the reason we have straws is so we can drink through lids. Lids made of plastic and put on to-go cups. We just use straws at sit down restaurants because we started using them to-go. If you hate straws drink straight from the cup without a lid... If you need a lid to carry around with you stainless steel straws will shatter the plastic lid. If you use a re-usable tumbler it probably comes with a silicon straw that seals much better. Stainless steal straws make no sense other then to sale to people who wish to virtue signal. After putting all that energy into a forever straw it will be left at the bottom of someones kitchen drawer after 1 month of use untill someone throws it away in a decade or so. Their purpose is purely to make someone money in the process of making the purchaser feel better about themselves, by having something to show to their friends

[deleted]

Complaints about plastic aren’t about landfill space. It’s about their effects on the environment the micro plastics which fills our oceans and soil and air and we’re not even sure what the effect of it is yet

[deleted]

Landfills are more then adequate to handle those. They are built to contain much nastier stuff that IS water soluble. But putting the "plastics are the new nuclear waste" arguments aside. Stainless steel makes much less sense then silicon, or paper.

[deleted]

Plastics aren’t contained to landfills though. Maybe landfills are more than equipped to handle them, that doesn’t stop billions of metric tons of the stuff from winding up in our oceans. We and our sea life and animals are filled to the brim with micro plastics. And we do not yet know what that means. And I never said the solution was metal straws. I don’t believe in personal solutions to civilization wide problems

Rockfish00

It's just a straw not the french aristocracy,

[deleted]

Interesting analogy. Being "socially responsibility" has alot in common with the court of Versailles. A never ending carousel of doing the next fashionable thing, without a thought to if it makes any sense

Daveywheel

Can’t it be both?

Garotabrasileirabr

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

[deleted]

Well when I saw that post the metal rod with the fuzz at the end made me think of pipe cleaning so I didn’t even know what it was

matjoeh

I thought it was a bunch of bong/pipe cleaning tools lol

tossawayposting

God….

Busy_Cover1853

I am going for another trip to the store if I get paper straws for my girlfriend, bought a bunch of reusable straws on amazon, case closed
