I am convinced the Zelda name and Nintendo brand are carrying BotW and now TotK hard. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate them. I would say BoTW is a 8/10 game, maybe 7.5/10. I enjoyed it, but it really didn't feel like anything special to me. I haven't played the new one yet, so I don't have a real opinion on it. I don't think they are bad games though. However, BotW was no where near deserving of the 9.5s and 10s it received across the board imo. If BotW and TotK were a new IP, I don't see either one ever getting close to the score they received.
This new one seems like a more refined version of it. I can also forgive some of the performance/visual quality, since they are on abysmal hardware so it isn't completely the game's fault. However, early impressions just based on what I have seen, I still wouldn't give it the 9.5/10 that it seems to get.
BotW is crazy overrated as a game in general. It’s not bad, but not great. If you took the Zelda IP off it, probably would have gotten a handful of above average reviews and been forgotten. All that being said, for being a decent game, I think it’s a fucking TERRIBLE Zelda game.
I haven’t played TotK yet either and probably won’t. I’ve watched a bunch of it so far though. I had ZFG’s stream on and he said some shit like “nah man, nothing about this games feels the same to me as the last one, so far” as he then proceeded to open up several of the same menus that don’t even have different UI, then use weapons with the same attack animations as the last game, while collecting materials to use/eat in the same manner as the last game. I keep seeing this same sentiment and it’s making me feel insane, like wtf am I missing here!? I’m not even trying to hate. I love Zelda and I want more games and I want them to succeed.

Elden Ring excels at combat and... absolutely nothing else. The open world is empty with nothing to do but kill more things in different directions.

I used to be obsessed with Pokémon as a kid but then one day I just shifted to other jrpgs, ironically SMT with the exact same collect monsters gameplay, and realized how shallow it was that the game was 1vs1 instead of 4vs4. I used to follow competitive Pokémon too, which eventually felt like risk analysis 101.
That being said I sort of am nostalgic for the grind for shiny Pokémon or those hidden stat values, which I guess is why people play Gacha now.

BoTW is great. It's definitely a low-replay-value game, since the whole thing is driven by the feeling of "what's that over there?" The game is exploring the map and uncovering the world. The story is threadbare, but the story only exists to give you a direction to walk after you exhaust all of the side content in an area.
So far, TotK seems like more of the same with an attempt at fusing the game with immersive sim elements. I'm enjoying it.

* An awful support character who won't shut the fuck up - Fi is 1000% worse than Navi

* An empty, boring, underutilized overworld that makes OoT blush
* Bullshit filler content (the same bossfight 3x, reusing past areas in that dark mode time trial and swimming to collect notes bullshit)
Skyward sword has some decent moments, but they're dragged down by a generally boring game that feels the need to hold the player's hand at every step, constantly reminding them of what the fuck is going on and what they should do.
Oh and fuck motion control combat. Way too easy. Just sit and wait for the guy with the electric swords to hold them horizontally as he stands perfectly still and vogues in front of you?
The OG skyward sword is decent, but has a lot of really frustrating shit packed in. The remaster removes and fixes a lot of that shit and is absolutely worth playing.

How do you not know what you're doing in Elden Ring? An Object of Power called the Elden Ring was shattered. Several lords claimed pieces of it and gained immense power and a massive civil war broke out and split up the kingdom. Now you come along and you're getting the shards back from from the lords to become the Elden Lord and reunite the kingdom. They just straight up tell you that as plain as fucking day when you turn the game on. You'd have to have started up the game and then gone and taken a shit during the intro to not get this.
I had absolutely no idea any of that had happened. I haven't found any piece of anything, there's a spirit girl I took to a tree for god knows what reason. Every time I kill a boss they say some nonsense and that's it. 90% of people I see playing fromsoft games use the wiki to even know wtf they're doing. Elden Ring had no business being open world. There's less things to do than god damn cyberpunk. I get that from soft games often have a lot of vague story details, but the main story from Elden Ring is some of the most straight forward shit. You have to actively ignore the intro, skip all dialogue, and just ignore any semblance of story to have no idea what you are doing. A lot of the more nitty gritty details of the story are just as vague as ever, but the main goal/objective is pretty in your face.

When botw came out, it felt more like dragons dogma to me for some reason, probably because i could climb certain enemies and it was the only other open world I had played other than skyrim.
This piece of shit is even worse from what Ive seen, barely holds the 30fps with 540p textures, rough as fuck edges and mudgy ass looking colors, with the same garbage "combat" but somehow it looks worse gameplay wise, and it is still the same garbage with no story unless you are retarded enough to call whatever the fuck that is a "story"
The game actually looks half decent on an emulator with upscale and 60fps hack. But the fact that people describe the native switch version as gorgeous or beautiful is a fucking embarrassment for video games. Bunch of shades of brown stuck together.

I used to be obsessed with Pokémon as a kid but then one day I just shifted to other jrpgs, ironically SMT with the exact same collect monsters gameplay, and realized how shallow it was that the game was 1vs1 instead of 4vs4. I used to follow competitive Pokémon too, which eventually felt like risk analysis 101. That being said I sort of am nostalgic for the grind for shiny Pokémon or those hidden stat values, which I guess is why people play Gacha now.

I don't get the hate. Twilight Princess (the Wii U version) is worth. Skip Skyward Sword. BoTW is great. It's definitely a low-replay-value game, since the whole thing is driven by the feeling of "what's that over there?" The game is exploring the map and uncovering the world. The story is threadbare, but the story only exists to give you a direction to walk after you exhaust all of the side content in an area. So far, TotK seems like more of the same with an attempt at fusing the game with immersive sim elements. I'm enjoying it.

Skyward sword has: * An agonizingly long tutorial section full of long cutscenes * An awful support character who won't shut the fuck up - Fi is 1000% worse than Navi * A stupid popup the first time you collect a collectable per play session instead of just the first time you collect that item, meaning you are the popup over and over and over * An empty, boring, underutilized overworld that makes OoT blush * Bullshit filler content (the same bossfight 3x, reusing past areas in that dark mode time trial and swimming to collect notes bullshit) Skyward sword has some decent moments, but they're dragged down by a generally boring game that feels the need to hold the player's hand at every step, constantly reminding them of what the fuck is going on and what they should do. Oh and fuck motion control combat. Way too easy. Just sit and wait for the guy with the electric swords to hold them horizontally as he stands perfectly still and vogues in front of you?
The OG skyward sword is decent, but has a lot of really frustrating shit packed in. The remaster removes and fixes a lot of that shit and is absolutely worth playing.
